Music Producer Tree Adams and Music Supervisor Nora Felder chat about Becca's band, Queens of Dogtown.
I've mentioned before that I just started watching Californication this year (my bad) though I watched David Duchovny in his previous non-cable network series, the X-Files, for it's entire run. One of the things that I'm really loving about this little 30 min. show is the soundtrack. It really enhances the vibe with music that without question, I'd want to hear again.
Fortunately for you, I'm able to give away the Season 4 Soundtrack to Californication! That's right! The Season 4 soundtrack--this season--stuff you have not heard yet but will want to hear again!
The soundtrack features The Queens of Dogtown (recurring on the show) as well as Warren Zevon, Shooter Jennings, Tommy Lee, Better Than Ezra and others!
It is yours for the asking my friends. Just drop me a comment between now and February 26 telling me one thing you like about the music on Californication.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - David Bradley spent five minutes writing the computer code that has bailed out the world's PC users for decades. The result was one of the most well-known key combinations around: CtrlAltDelete. It forces obstinate computers to restart when they will no longer follow other commands. Bradley, 55, is getting a new start of his own. He's retiring Friday after 28 1/2 years with IBM. Some quips from Mr. Bradley: "I didn't know it was going to be a cultural icon," Bradley said. "I did a lot of other things than CtrlAltDelete, but I'm famous for that one." "I may have invented it, but Bill made it famous." --At a 20-year celebration for the IBM PC, when Bradley was on a panel with Microsoft founder Bill Gates and other tech icons when the discussion turned to the keys.
I never gave "who invented CntlAltDelete" any thought until today but without this fellow and whomever invented "CtrlC,CtrlV," I'd be in dire straits.

The only thing crazier than making a hit TV show, is remaking one. Matt LeBlanc stars as Matt LeBlanc, the seemingly innocent actor who's making more trouble than friends in the new Showtime Original Comedy Series EPISODES.

Repost:
Often it takes some time for a new series to build an audience, to find it's footing. That's how I feel after watching all seven episodes of 'Episodes' on Showtime. Because each episode is only about 30 minutes, the entirely of the series is about the length of a film. Yet obviously, Episodes is not a film and so does not follow the structure of one. Although I felt that there were many funny moments and certainly great talent in the first 2 hours/ 6 episodes of Episodes,' it was not until the 7th episode that I felt that I'd gotten in the groove, so to speak, with the show. To me, that is totally OK as it is my habit to watch the first 7 or eight hour-long episodes of a show before I reach a conclusion about whether I wish to continue. Episode 7 of Episodes, which I realize is still weeks away, was the show hitting it stride, finding it's pitch, whatever metaphor you wish to use.
When it reached it's conclusion I turned to my watching partner and said,' This show is going to be a hit," and he did not hesitate in agreeing with me. If you have been watching I urge you to 'hang in there' because there is a payoff, which I believe will set the tone for season 2--one of smart hilarity.
William H. Macy, Frank Gallagher on 'Shameless' and wife Felicity Huffman, (Desperate Housewives) 'not wasted' (2005):
Macy as he appears when filming 'Shameless.' (2011)
Sort of crucial to remember this is just a TV show and Macy is not really drunk--just pretending, huh? There have been a number of unlikable characters on TV over the years. The fun is loving to hate on some of these characters (not the actors, usually).
Q: I really like Shameless, but will Frank (William H. Macy) always be wasted?
A: The drunkest dad on television will voluntarily sober up around the sixth episode, but don't expect it to last very long. "He becomes a really cool father," William H. Macy says. "It gives you a glimpse into the father that Frank might've been or could be. My oldest boy, Lip, can't take it. He Tasers me and pours vodka in my mouth."

Update (1.27.11) Tantalizing tidbits about this week's shows (beginning Sunday at 9pm ET/PT) via Showtime 'central':
Tomorrow’s EPISODES mini-marathon will be the perfect way to catch up on the EPISODES episodes you’ve missed! See for yourself why Matt LeBlanc has been called “superb” (Entertainment Weekly) and even “perfect” (The Boston Globe) in “the sharpest sitcom debut this year” (New York Magazine). The 3-episode marathon starts Friday at 9pm ET/PT and repeats on SHO2 Saturday at 8pm ET/PT.
This week’s episode of CALIFORNICATION is an absolute riot... it may or may not involve a player-hating monkey and auto-erotic asphyxiation. And I can assure you that the toddler-drag and the threesome proposition in SHAMELESSare only loosely related.

Matt LeBlanc reveals to Sean what he would do if he wasn't an actor.
Episodes 1.03 Synopsis
Beverly can't stand Matt and the feeling is mutual. As it's all she can do not to throttle the star of her show, Beverly tells her husband "he's yours". Sean and Matt end up spending the day together, including an extended adventure in Las Vegas. Soon the two guys have bonded, leaving Beverly feeling excluded by her husband's new bro-mance. Later, in a confrontation with Matt, Beverly learns just how "big" a star Matt Leblanc actually is.
Californication was just picked up for a fifth season, and David Duchovny is understandably happy with that announcement. After all, there's only so many episodes a man can bear to bare. "That's probably why I should stop after six years, in terms of backsides," he tells us. But beyond just shots of David's derriere, the hit Showtime drama has heart and soul, especially when it comes to family.
"The heart of the show and what prevents it from spiraling off into nothing is the fact this guy does love this woman and he loves his daughter and he wants it to work but he keeps on screwing up," David says. "And they're all screwing up. So I think without that we don't have a show."
Watch what else David has to say about his backside, the season five announcement, and Rob Lowe looking like Brad Pitt.
Regardless of what Duchovny thinks about Baby Boomers like him showing his bum, Showtime seems to have pretty good track record with their over-45 y.o.leads holding up very well, thank you. Mary Louise Parker and Edie Falco come to mind right away. David looks just fine IMO, though I'm less inclined to think he should continue getting naked on camera if he starts getting man boobs.

All The Trouble: Cameron Monaghan
SHOWTIME | Season 1 Ep. 0 | Added: January 18, 2011
Cameron Monaghan discusses his role as Ian, his character's relationship with father Frank, and his relationship with his older brother, Lip.
I was going to touch on one specific scene from Shameless, Episode 2, Frank The Plank which IMO, encapsulates exactly why William H. Macy is perfect for the part. I will, but first I want to direct your attention to the interview (above) with Cameron Monaghan who plays the second oldest Gallagher brother, Ian. The interview is basically Cameron talking about the show, the characters, the interior workings of the family and finally, he's asked why he wanted to be on the show.
Cameron's guileless response is just so charming. You simply have to take a couple of minutes to listen to clip. Completely devoid of any pretension, he finishes with,"Any actor would kill to be on this show." And you know he means it.
I think that is a great part of why 'the kids' on Shameless have been mentioned so many times as perfectly cast. They are very real. They could be anyone's neighbour. They've charmed the pants off me and they've made it look effortless. Not a single actor on this show--child or adult seems to be 'acting.'

Lip goes to pick up Karen but first has to deal with Frank.
So, what I was going to say about William H. Macy. I've read a lot of positive things about the kids on the show (including/especially Emmy Rossum) and I read good stuff about William H. Macy too, but some reviewers seem to be having trouble with liking the unkempt, irresponsible, drunken character, 'Frank Gallagher' that Macy portrays. My feeling is you don't need to like Frank Gallagher to be able to enjoy him.
In episode 2 where he had more let's say, 'awake moments,' Macy had a deliciously funny scene where he wakes up after yet another drunken night--on a picnic table in Toronto's lakefront. You'll have to watch the episode to find out the details but I wanted to point out where I think the casting people/showrunners agreed that Macy is perfect as Frank.
Shortly after realizing that he's in Canada, Frank is taken into custody 'to sleep it off.' His troubles go beyond that as he has no passport and so will not be able to get back into the US even when he's released--so he's pretty wound up. The scene that had me in stiches both times I watched it was when they set 'Frank' loose on a triade about everything that was wrong about Canada. Pacing back and forth in his cell, he angrily vented about anything that came to mind: The Canadians, who hosted last year's winter Olympics couldn't even keep (the flame of) the torch lit. In the mountains of Vancouver, in Canada! there was no snow for the competitions. On and on he ranted. IMO, this was Frank's funniest scene yet and Macy was as good as any scene in any medium I've watched him in. It was perfection. Can't wait for more. I love this show.
Above: David Duchovny as Hank and Madeleine Martin as Becca
This is my first season watching Californication and I must admit, it's nothing like I'd thought:
It's really quite charming, very funny, and quite real. As Evan Handler ('Charlie') says in the mini-interview (below), the show covers everything from the sublime to the ridiculous.
I've really liked season 4 thus far and I'm looking forward to more of it. This is a smart show with witty repartee (another Handler characterization, I believe; the guy is a quote machine!) as well as boobs and bums. It's got heart too, and that is what I find so charming as it swirls around amidst all the rest.
Hank and Charlie discuss the progress of his script.
Hank connects with a bad blind date, Charlie is unfaithful.
Tara Is 'Definitely Back' On True Blood, Season 4: When interviewed, Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton) demurred when asked about her character as she put it "driving off in her little car," at the end of season 3, that she would be back (in season 4) ...but she could not say (how/when). She continued however with 'I'm back, I'm definitely back.'
Colour me dim but I never gave a second thought to whether 'Tara' was coming back from her road trip. My guess is that 'True Blood' will pick up right where it left off and so Tara may not be in the first few episodes in Bon Temps, but who's to say we won't see her elsewhere?
In her co-starring role in the new Showtime series, Shameless, Rosssum turns in a stunning performance as the 21 y.o. de-facto head of her motherless family. Rossum's unvanished good looks are a sight to behold. Dressed-up here, she's simply breath-taking!
Gorgeous and super-talented, is there any doubt this lady having a brilliant future?!

Joe Manganiello was in a perfectly cut blue suit. It appeared that he's sporting some grey in his beard. Could it be?!
Alexander Skarsgård's 2011 Golden Globe party photo intrigues me the most for the hint about his character, vampire Eric Northman, who as a rule is quite clean shaven (other than in his flashbacks of his Nordic days). Alexander appears to be boycotting the razor. Of course, it only serves to make him sexier. It also would reflect what a 'Sookie and Eric who-forgets-who-he-is storyline.'
Nelsan's awesome white cat
I'm picking up an unspoken message with the Nelsan Ellis in the white cat photo that he's hinting of 'white magic' as opposed to the darker black witchcraft or sorcery ahead for Ellis's True Blood character. 'Lafayette' found out that he and his boyfirend, Jesus (Kevin Alejandro), have previously unknown to him supernatural 'witch-like' powers.

Janina Gavankar attended looking cute and a bit fierce while miming playing Guitar Hero. Perhaps a preview of her character, shifter Luna. Gavankar she has hinted via her website (janinagavankar.com) to getting very close to Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) in fact she implied, Luna and Sam are getting hot and heavy!
Carrie Preston (Arlene) managed to look as if carrying around Guitar Hero is something she does without second thought.
Kristen Bauer van Straten just looked plain adorable. She's got fantastic skin. He hair looks fantastic, too. [Want to see her as Pam in season 4 of True Blood! NOW!]
Everyone's relative significance was put in better context when astronaut Buzz Aldrin walked by Joe Manganiello. As Joe Manganiello (Alcide, HBO's True Blood) pointed out,
"That guy was on the moon!"
Five super cool things about Buzz Aldrin:
He was the second human on the moon. He would have been the first but in the cramped quarters of Apollo 9, his commander, Neil Armstrong was closest to the door inside the compact Lunar Landing Module so it was easier for Armstrong, to be the first to exit the spacecraft!
For contributions to the television industry, Buzz Aldrin was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at Hollywood and Vine
Has a couple of doctorates, one from MIT.
The popular space ranger character Buzz Lightyear from Pixar's Toy Story movie series, is named after him, largely due to the suggestion of the film's makers that he has "the coolest name of any astronaut."
In 1979 Edwin Eugene Aldrin, Jr., (born January 20, 1930) had his name legally changed to 'Buzz.'
Kristen of E!Online's observation of Joe Manganiello's spontaneous reaction (above)
Also: More Joe and Todd Lowe nuggets on the result of the Arlene and Terry's or most likely, Arlene's and season 1's-serial-murderer's-progeny.
Creepy baby alert! It sure sounds like that's what's headed to True Blood in the coming season, if superhot(Alcide) isn't yanking our chain. ...
Another choice quote of Manganiello's was 'that if season three was the season of the werewolf, then season four is "the season of the witch." And Todd Lowe (Terry Bellefluer) (said) that, "There's a new presence in Terry and Arlene's (Carrie Preston) life."
When asked if this new presence were a baby or a monster, and Manganiello teased, "Both! Have you seen The Fly?'
This gets me so freaking excited! Wouldn't be awesome if Joan Jett guest-starred on True Blood in Season 4 in some sort of music sequence?! Or at least had more of this song playing during an episode?! Oh. hell. yeah! They have to do it!

Showtime has picked up Californication for another round, and don’t expect producers to put the brakes on the show anytime soon. Asked by a critic at TCA if he’s tempted to set a series end date like Lost, executive producer Tom Kapinos said “no way.”
“I’m riding this to the bitter end,” he said. “I believe in sticking with something until we’ve squeezed every drop out of it.”
That said, the rather dramatic upcoming fourth season finale of the show was written as if, just in case, the show wasn’t renewed.
“If lightening strikes tomorrow,” he said, “I make an effort to make sure the end of every season … is a satisfying story.”
One critic asked if the show was taming down its sex scenes after last season, which he said resembled porn.
“That’s totally unfair,” David Duchovny said.
“I don’t feel like it’s ever gone too far,” Kapinos said. “Porn is people having sex on film. These are people pretending to have sex while naked. I have no regrets about the show at all.”
On Sunday, & Co. pulled in 848,000 viewers at 9 p.m. for its fourth season opener (and 1. 1 million viewers total if you include its repeat). Still no word on Shameless, but the new comedy performed slightly better out of the gate than Californication, so it’s off to a good start.
"I'd like to go six seasons," David says of Californication's fate destiny. "I always thought six would be a good number …72 episodes would be right."
That said, he's willing to do more—assuming Showtime can foot the bill. "I'd be open because the schedule is so wonderful for me," he told me. "It's only a 13 week schedule. It's like shooting a little movie for me. And I love working with the people. We all have a good time. I could continue on…I just say six years because in cable I think it becomes economically not feasible for them to go beyond because they're going to have to pay me so much money."

Shameless fans wondering about where the youngest Gallagher child came from will soon get an explanation. In the Showtime series, drunken patriarch Frank (William H. Macy) is so unreliable, his oldest daughter Fiona (Emmy Rossum) has to manage the hectic household and her five siblings. Baby Liam (Blake and Brennan Johnson) is obviously of mixed parentage -- born from the same mother, but with an unknown father -- a fact that was glossed over in the show's premiere.***
*It may have been 'glossed over in the premiere' but it was repeatedly alluded to in the weeks running up to the Shameless premeire in 'Franks' introduction to his family. When he gets to Liam he says he's 'not sure' in regard to Liam's parentage though Liam looks a whole lot like (Frank's) first sponsor.
I've not wondered beyond the time frame about where Liam came from as the baby has thus far served as a prop more or less, albeit a very cute prop.
Shameless is biggest drama premiere in seven years "We've explained the inability to figure out his heritage," executive producer John Wells said at the Television Critics Association winter previews Friday. "But there are actually a couple episodes coming up -- [Episode] 9 and 10, somewhere in that area -- in which there's an attempt to figure that out." "The chaos in the family is such that they honestly don't know. Everyone has their own theory and they try to figure out which theory is correct."
And even though Liam's origins will be explored, don't expect the Gallaghers' treatment of him to change, regardless of what they discover. "I think it's really cool that nobody really cares," Rossum said. "They're just a family and love each other, and it doesn't really matter if they share 100 percent genetic material with each other. They're in it to live and love each other and take care of each other. A good person steps up to the plate and says, 'This is a child, I need to take care of this child' and does it." Shameless airs Sundays at 10/9 c on Showtime.
IMO, the 'new darkness' on True Blood is not 'who' but more 'what.'
My feel is that Alan Ball will not whip up an entirely new big bad. One only has to look at the casting news to see that at least in part, Ball and his writers are following the Sookie Stackhouse book series (book #4). The plethora of witches, shifters, werewolves, faeries and of course, vampires has me leaning in the direction of the books in that there will be a supernatural war.
That is very much OK with me as Charlaine Harris's fourth book in the Southern Gothic series, 'Dead To The World,' is my favourite.
Q: How about some True Blood scoop? Ausiello: ... Remember last season’s legendary head-turning sex scene between Lorena and Bill? Well, the word around Bon Temps is that there’s a sequence in the upcoming fourth season that will have folks buzzing just as (if not more) loudly. The character at the center of said scene? One Jason Stackhouse.
Q: How will Alcide and Sookie’s relationship evolve this season — if at all? Will Alcide begin to develop real romantic feelings for her? Ausiello: “I think Alcide has already developed real feelings for her,” responds exec producer Alan Ball. “But there are certainly obstacles to overcome for both of them.”
Q: Any dish on the upcoming season of True Blood? A: Stephen Moyer spills, "We've got a new presence. There will be a new kind of specter that represents darkness. We had the wonderful Denis O'Hare as the king of Mississippi last year and he's [gone] at the end of season three, so we've got something else (my italics - CM) coming in to replace that darkness, which is going to be really interesting, I think, this whole new sort of topic that we haven't covered."
Guesses on who the new "darkness" will be? (see above)
[CAROLINE BELLEFLEUR] We finally get to meet the matriarch of long-time Bon Temps fixtures, the Bellefleurs.
In her 70s, Caucasian, formidable, refined, and beautifully dressed, she is Portia’s (Courtney Ford) and Andy's (Chris Bauer) grandmother who dislikes vampires but warms to Bill’s charm. Guest Star. Aww. Makes me miss 'Gran' (Lois Smith).
[EMMA] Native American / Hispanic, 6 years old to play 5 years old, happy, playful and talkative, she is the daughter of a shifter and a werewolf. Strong Recurring.
[HEAD PRIEST] Male, Hispanic, 40s to 70s, seen in a flashback to 1610, he instigates the burning of a witch at a medieval church, and he clearly takes pleasure in describing the procedure. 3 lines, 1 scene. Actor must speak Spanish.
Paola Turbay has joined HBO's drama True Blood as a recurring. She will play Antonia. We don't know much about her except for the fact that she speaks fluent Spanish and is 'fierce'. The Houston, TX-born Turbay, who moved to Colombia at age 10, is former Miss Colombia and Miss Universe runner-up. She made her U.S. series debut as a regular on CBS' Cane and has been recurring on USA's Royal Pains.
Really like this mini interview with John Wells. I have both watched and not watched a good chunk of Well's work. Part of it seems to be that he has such a huge body of work. I followed China Beach and ER but have never seen the highly acclaimed "The West Wing,' 'ThirdWatch' or the currently hot, hot, hot 'Southland.' I adored China Beach and ER for many years so when I saw Wells' name attached to 'Shameless,' I was interested immediately because viewing Well's work is so satisfying. Why watch a television show whether on premium cable or not, unless you enjoy it, right? So have a listen to John Wells describe Shameless's overarching theme, what you can expect from upcoming episodes, and Wells' surprising advice if you didn't like the first episode. Shameless airs on Showtime on Sundays at 10 p.m.
Oh yeah, do you like free stuff?

On the next episode of Shameless: Showtime Plot Summary for "Shameless" Frank the Plank (2011) Drunk as a skunk, Frank has a run-in with Karen's father and returns home to take it out on Ian. The next day is Friday, and Frank is nowhere to be found, which is a bit odd since he never misses disability check day. The family starts a manhunt. ..
Q: Got any scoop on what's coming up? A: Hank has always been a good father and he's trying to get back into Becca's good graces. In the next episode, he takes his budding musician daughter to buy a guitar, but his credit card is declined. Later, he writes the most beautiful heartfelt apology letter which unfortunately coincides with a lot of alcohol and a handful of pills...
...which was more than I was going to tell you as I [erm] saw them. Now I'll have to spill on something else about the David Duchovny-directed episode 'Suicide Solution,' on Californication. In a Saturday posting. :)
There's even more. Want to see pretty pics of both David Duchovny and Carla Gugino? Here you go.

I would love to plan an Episodes, Shameless and Californication poster giveaway especially so early into their seasons. Build some well-deserved momentum for all three series. I love them. I never watch comedies on the non-pay networks. Premium cable is where it's at & Showtime knows how to make television that I look forward to relaxing and enjoying*. *relaxing & enjoying = Could be giggles, belly laughter and/or simply my thoughts being provoked.
All three shows: Episodes, Shameless and the season four-and-really-hitting-its-stride, Californication are truly worth enjoying.

ERW:...I’ve only done one episode, so I have no idea. But, they always outdo themselves, every year.
Translation: When we resume True Blood with Season 4, episode 1 we will first see the 'resolution' to Vampire Bill and Queen Sophie-Anne's battle at Bill's.
Since ERW says, 'Of course, there will be a resolution (to the fight). You just have to wait and see what happens. But, it will be epic...'
My feeling is that the 'resolution' does not come in the end of episode 4.01 'She's Not There' (#37), but rather later in the season when we have an all-out war featuring a number of supernaturals which will indeed be 'epic.'
Q: How tortured will Queen Sophie-Anne be this season?
ERW: Oh, I think she’ll get what she deserves.
OK. Sophie-Anne may experience the losing end of the fight at Bill's and I'm extrapolating from the books when I say so. Here's another ERW quote from the interview:
Q: Who have your scenes been with so far?
ERW: So far, Stephen Moyer.
SPOILER ALERT:
The Bill-Sophie Anne fight is an Alan Ball creation but in book 4, Sophie-Anne does indeed get into a dreadful fight, the results of which ERW could be describing when she says it will be 'epic.'
It sort of bolsters my theory that Sophie-Anne will flee Bill's injured, to return to the story later in the season later for the 'epic battle' involving many more individuals (of many natures) than just Bill and her.
I've thought for some time that people underestimate the True Blood version of Bill. They have him painted as a very black and white character but Bill Compton's character is more nuanced, more layered--and smarter--than he's been given credit for.
I believe Bill would be stupid to have lured Sophie-Anne to his mansion without having a solid plan to overtake her. We know she can take down 1000-year-old Viking vampire Eric Northman, so certainly she could easily squash less-than 200 y.o. (weaker) Bill. He knows this and he's going to have to employ assistance from another supernatural or trap/trick the Queen quickly--almost immediately after their fight (battle royale?) begins.
People call me The Queen:
Q: What’s it like...(to work on True Blood) ?
WOOD: It’s been great. It’s one of the funnest sets I’ve ever worked on, actually. There’s just always something crazy happening, and lots of blood.
I love that ERW uses the expression 'funnest.' No doubt people will think she doesn't know better. Au contraire. She's simply being playful.
Let's continue trying to pull as much spoilery-speculation from this interview as we can because ERW does tell much--even when not exactly telling.
Q: Have you had any scenes with any of the new female cast members?
ERW: Not yet, no. (my italics)
More indication that the queen of Mississippi 'goes away' for a portion of season 4, only to return for the epic battle.
Q: How do you define Sophie-Anne’s sexuality?
ERW: Vampires, in general, are both... (but)I’d say she’s a lesbian.
Q: What do you think it is about the allure of vampires that makes them so popular? ERW: It’s always been around. There is something seductive about it. It’s living forever. There is this sexiness and this romance to that, I guess. And, there’s the goriness of it. It’s beautiful gore. It’s not a bloody zombie. It’s a very attractive, forever young, seductive person that might eat you.
Finally, yet another quip from Ms. Wood about being a 'queen.'
Q: How has your life changed since True Blood?
ERW: Good lord, the fans of True Blood are so dedicated and intense. It’s crazy. I get stopped on the street constantly now. People call me The Queen, which I don’t mind at all. That’s how people address me. It’s nice. Not a bad gig.
Ha! Great answer! If you haven't really paid attention to ERW's career trajectory (in TV and film) go back to the (1999 - 2002) TV series 'Once and Again' which starred Sela Ward, Billy Connelly and co-starred Shane West and Evan Rachel Wood among others. Try not to be blown away by how incredibly talented Evan Rachel Wood has been since pre-adolescence. Then find yourself a copy of the film 'Thirteen' which Evan made when she was age 14. Feel free to continue with Across The Universe and The Wrestler (and don't forget to see her co-star with Kate Winslet inMildred Piercein March on HBO). Then you'll perhaps understand a bit more why she sounds like a Hollywood veteran. (She is.)
I really, really hope that she survives the fight with Bill. He's been fighting dirty of late so it's going to be a nailbiter. Can June--and True Blood's season 4 debut-- come soon enough?

Californication - Promo Photos 4.02 - 'Suicide Solution' Synopsis: David Duchovny directs this episode which guest stars Rob Lowe, looking uncannily like Brad Pitt's doppelganger, but described as an 'imbalanced Oscar-winning actor'...who might play the 'Hank' role in the upcoming movie.' Looks fun.
I love Carla Gugino's guesting...She's good in everything she does. Not sure if I love her character, Abby, in sort-of-severe bangs, tho'.
Did you watch this along with Shameless andEpisodeswhich follow Californication on Showtime on Sunday nights?(If you missed episode 1 of any of the 3 shows you can watch them uncensored (for a limited time, I believe)right here on my blog!)
I watched all three shows--admittedly I split some of the viewing time up but that's allowed. :) Good shows, all.
Prior to Season 4, I did not watch Californication more than once or twice. I watched every episode of X-Files though and really like David Duchovny--so I'm game. He's very appealing but at this early point 'Hank' is not very lovable.

Videos: Shameless: GREAT William H. Macy Interview, Sneek Peek ('Don't Even Know Him' )
In the video embedded in this post (above), William H. Macy, in describing the show, opines that: 'there is nothing else like (Shameless) on TV.'
I agree with Macy completely. It's rare when you watch a new show and after just one episode ('Pilot') you know you love it and can't wait to watch more. But it's totally like that with 'Shameless.'
Emmy Rossum-- OMG. She knocks it out of the park as eldest daughter, Fiona. Love her. And Joan Cusak (Sheila) is so perfectly cast, too! This is a role that must be fun for her to play 'cos she's so delishishly fun to watch, especially in her scenes with Bill Macy (Frank Gallagher). The kids are really great, too, as is Justin Chatwin as Rossum's new love interest, 'Steve.'
I love William H. Macy. He has such integrity (see video)! I 'extra like' him because he is I believe, an 'actor's actor,' who directs and writes and act and acts and acts(!) He's just a gifted man in a number of areas--I so enjoy his work-- and I am glad he's landed, for a least a while,* at premium cabler Showtime.
*Meaning the season is short like 'series' are in the UK. I hope it runs forever. :)
(I'm also blown away that William H. Macy originated one of the roles in a David Mamet play that did so to great acclaim, 'American Buffalo.' Macy & Mamet have collaborated otherwise as well which endears him to me further. Plus, I loved ER back in the day of Julianna Margulies and George Clooney when Bill Macy had a recurring role as chief of (everything?) 'Dr. Morgenstern.'. If none of these fine moments in the career of William H. Macy ring a bell, how 'bout in the film in which he co-starred, Fargo, 'as 'Jerry Lundergaard?'

I remember when 'Baker Street' was on the radio [yes, back in the day we listened to the radio(!) Quaint(!)] all. the. time. And unlike a lot of songs that got played to death it never got old or tiresome. The original still sounds fresh today, what, 25- 30 years later?

Q: Will Denis O'Hare be back on the new season True Blood?
A: It sure sound(ed) like it because sources (say) that there will be a big storyline in which we see vampire attacks on YouTube—which is classic Russell Edgington, no?
However, it turns out it's not Russell, but rather an underground filmmaker who is capturing various vamps on video and then posting on YouTube for the world to see. Needless to say, this is not going to improve relations between the bloodsuckers and conservatives of the True Blood world.
As for Denis, ... he is expected back at some point but so far no 'concrete plans', i.e. contract, in place. Maybe another season or two. (Or never--geez what a lame-o 'news' item! CM)
Q: More True Blood spoilers, please!
A: In an early episode, Pam is going to get a "hot and stupid" sack o' meat to chew on who actually enjoys being bitten. And Tommy will get an intriguing offer from a prospector. Producers are also casting a Spanish-speaking badass chiquita who'll be a recurring role in episodes two through six.
True Blood's season 4 episode 3, entitled 'If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’? includes seven guest roles. Some of these were already mentioned in E! Online’s spoiler chat (see link just a few lines above). Episode 3 begins filming next week.
Character descriptions:
Antonia: a recurring role that runs episode 2 through episode 6. Age is anywhere 'from 20 to 40," fluent Spanish, and is “fierce” in nature. Kevin Alejandro, who as 'Jesus' is moving to featured status in s4 will probably need a couple of family members...
A 'generic' vampire, a pudgy young woman in her 20s, and a camera operator are all being cast as part of an 'underground You Tube video' that depicts the vampire feeding on the woman.
Camera operator: Also in his 20s and is on a mission to warn America about vampires by showing their true colors. It appears that he entraps the vampires by filming them, leaving the vamp desperate to avoid exposure.
Pam will enjoy snacking on a fangbanger, who definitely enjoys being snacked on and is disappointed when she takes off.
Nan Flanagan will debate a a bow tie clad 'smug conservative f*ck' .
Tommy encounters Paul McClatchy, a “prospector” who works for an energy company and makes Tommy an intriguing offer.

Five More Actors on True Blood Season 4 (Have Been) Cast(ing) List:
(Rebecca Wisocky - Photo credit : IMDb)
Rebecca Wisocky will play Queen Mab, who is described as an a 'quick-tempered leader and elegant beauty who presides over a fantasyland.'
Wisocky has been seen on stage in AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN, for which she received an Obie Award. Other stage credits include GOD'S EAR, 36 VIEWS, and SUENO. She has also been cast on 90210, The Mentalist, CSI and HBO's Big Love and will have a future engagement with the film, 'Atlas Shrugged'.
(Dane DeHaan - Photo credit : IMDb)
'In Treatment's' standout Dane DeHaan has joined HBO's vampire drama True Blood in a recurring role:
Freshman actor DeHaan, has been cast for a key guest spot in the True Blood fourth season premiere.
DeHaan (whose stage credits include THE ALIENS, AMERICAN BUFFALO, SIXTY MILES TO SILVER LAKE and END DAYS) will play Timbo, a teen looked after by Ryan Kwaten's character, Jason. The part extends DeHaan's relationship with HBO. Currently, DeHaan plays Jesse on the current season of the network's drama In Treatment.
Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte on True Blood) Photo Credit: MTV Spike TV Scream Awards
... Sam Trammell gave details about 'what's going to happen (to his character, early) in the new season.'
"We've been [shooting] for about two weeks. We've gotten two scripts and it's really cool. I'm really psyched about it.... And it's different—some things have happened that have changed things, so I think the viewers will be excited. Alan [Ball] likes to keep everybody on their toes.
*Sam Trammell on True Blood's upcoming Season 4*:
"It's always fun just getting the scripts and reading them, it's like...I was going to say crack cocaine but I've never had it!"
(12.14.10)
Q: True Blood S4 details?
Sookie's (Anna Paquin) farmhouse has been a shambles ever since Maryann (season 2) built meat sculptures in the front yard and had orgies in the back and front yards, as well as 'repainting' Sookie's murdered grandma's walls with mud (only--I hope!)...
'Insiders say they're finally repainting the house and repairing all the damage...ounds like Sookie might be settling back into domestic bliss?'*
(*From the Sookie Stackhouse books, which the show has split off from, Sookie's kitchen was set deliberately afire; after surviving that (as Sookie always does--survives for another novel) with some time going by,) Sook decides to give the old place a sprucing up. - CLM

Christina Moore, Neil Hopkins and Chris Butler have been cast in the fourth season of True Blood, TVGuide.com confirms.
Moore (MADtv, 90210) has been cast as a Texas housewife with special abilities, a recurring role. She will film her part on the HBO series while HawthoRNe,the TNT drama in which she is a regular, is on hiatus.
Both Hopkins (LOST, Skyline) and Butler (The Good Wife) will appear in multi-episode arcs.
Hopkins will play Claude, brother to Claudine, the queen of the fairies. Butler will play Emory, a conservative shapeshifter.
Intriguing screen cap photo to discuss (click to enlarge):
(Photo: Sookieverseblog.com)
Here Claudine beckons Sookie. Near her is a shirtless blond man, similar to other faeires we've seen sort of milling about in the Sookie-Claudine scenes of season 3. Is that the newly-cast Neil Hopkins? He bears a resemblance. Book readers will recall Claude and Claudine were two-thirds of triplet siblings – and that Claude was described in the books as dark-haired, like his sisters. (Claude-from-the-books was also described as hating humans, gay and a popular male-stripper.)
True Blood is re-airing the latest 3 episodes next Sunday. At the end of the promo, it gives us more of a glimpse into the Season 3 finale on September 12, 2010.
I have some really-truly spoilers that if you read on you will know NOW what some of the results of the cliffhangers of the finale will be. More specifically, you'll know who lives.
I have to tell you, I'm pretty shocked. SPOILER ALERT!
(The actors involved (except one) have interviewed that they are coming back but I'm giving you this version which matches theirs.)
I don't know if like me, you are having mixed feelings about True Blood's imminent Season 3 ending. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that it will be awesome but this season went by faster than both one and two--it was so jam-packed with new characters and beefed-up parts for some old favourites. It's just so hard to say goodbye. OK. Now I'm sounding like a sappy love song so let us get to something a bit more hardcore, shall we?

Joe Manganiello is official for season 4 (check).
Sookie and Alcide (Joe Manganiello, previously confirmed for Season 4)
Update 1.04.11/Denis O' Hare had not been signed for True Blood season 4, which is about one-third done filming going into the four episode. According to E! he proably won't be back for a season or 2!
About Bon Temps' other new additions—Denis O'Hare, Marshall Allman, Kevin Alejandro and Lauren Bowles? We have the scoop: Believe it or not.... all of the aforementioned newbies will be back on True Blood for season four...So it looks like all this pretty faces up there survive next Sunday's "bloody" (per Alexander Skarsgård) season three finale...
From left: Godric's foot (Allan Hyde), Eric, Russell (Denis O'Hare)
Denis is set to return to the HBO hit next year, according to sources, but don't expect to see Russell too early in the year. We have it on good authority (Alan Ball's) that initially witches will reign supreme, but I'm told the plan is for Russell to reappear later in the season.
Sounds to me like Edgington is somehow driven off or thought to be disposed of. Wonder if the "cement truck scene" spoilers from early in the season has anything to do with it? I'm going to need a plausible explanation how he did not go *poof* in the daylight faster than Godric did with Russell bein' 3X as old and all. Lafayette's second to last image of Jesus (Kevin Alejandro)
As for Lafayette's lover, Jesus (Kevin Alejandro), Nelsan says, "We're partners in crime now, my boy toy, so he will be back." Adds Kevin with a knowing grin: "I'm hearing rumors about that, too. I've never been a part of anything this big before." (see below) Happier times for "LaLa" and Jesus (Nelsan Ellis, Kevin Alejandro)
Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) has always been able to see through people--as he does here with Tommy (Marshall Allman)
Sam's wayward little bro isn't going anywhere either, although he's mastered the tease. When asked if he'll be back, Marshall told me: "Yeah, I am. But I mean, hey! How do you know?! Come on, now! Spoiler alert!"
Tommy Mickens taking off with Sam Merlotte's money:
I don't think we are supposed to forget that at roughly this age Sam did the exact same thing to Maryann (Season 2). My guess is the shot that Sam takes at Tommy is either a warning shot or it misses it's mark. I don't know how Tommy could possibly "fly away" (which he has done before) with a load of cash like that. Perhaps Sam will shoot him in the shoulder or arm and keep Tommy "grounded" for awhile.
Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) taking aim at his brother, Tommy.
'Holly' (Lauren Bowles)
And rounding out the ranks as a newly-minted series regular (she told us herself after hitting up the Emmys with her sister Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is Lauren Bowles, who recently joined the show as resident Wiccan Holly.
Also, in re: Arlene Q: Are we going to see something happen with Arlene's baby situation before the end of the season on True Blood?
A: As a matter of fact, Mrs. Carrie Preston assures us we will…well, kinda. "Arlene is still very conflicted. But there's going to be a resolution to the conflict," she says, "But it's also going to be open-ended." Either she's speaking in tongues or my Emmy (lack of sleep and too much ginger ale) hangover is worse than I thought. Does that make any sense to anyone? Carrie's equally wonderful hubby Michael Emerson weighed in on the baby drama, saying, "I mean, we have to see the baby," to which she responded, "If there is a baby…" Now I'm really stumped. She's not pulling a Terri Schuester is she? Or preggo with some sort of supernatural somethin'? The mind boggles.
In re: the "new" Sam Q: I cannot believe the way Sam's acting on True Blood. Tell me it isn't permanent, please! A:...Sam Trammell (says) Sam's not-so-pleasant adventures are just beginning and will extend far into True Blood's fourth season. "I know one thing that's going to happen with Sam [next year], which is taking it to a new level. It's very cool." The gang doesn't even start shooting until November... Read more: Kristen

Thirty years ago: All My Children 'Jenny Gardner' w/ 'Greg' (Lawerence Lau)
Kim Delaney and Lawrence Lau as Jenny & Greg on All My Children 1983 (ABC)
Hey! That's Jenny from "All My Children"! I haven't seen seen her her since then. The years have been kind. ~Her Brother
Yep! She's gotten better looking and she always was cute. You watched All My Children? I've always sort of followed her career and she's done okay (except she's had a DUI or two. *ouch*) So here's an excuse for a bit of Jenny Gardner a/k/a Kim Delaney (who happens to have been born on my two years-old birthday (think for a sec), formerly of the soap opera AMC on American TV network, ABC.*
Update 2011: As of 2006, Kim had again entered alcohol rehab. The mid- '00's were not so great for her.
Poor, dead Jenny. Anything to get away from that drip of a husband, Greg. *shudder*
Greg Nelson (Lawrence Lau) returns to Pine Valley for Angie and Jesse's wedding. The three go to Jenny's grave... complete with flashbacks w/ Kim Delaney!
I published this in January of 2004. I write very differently now, almost never anything personal. Many times the thought crosses my mind to blog but then I think, why bother? If I want to get my thoughts down in writing I have no more need to share them with the universe. On another note, I wrote this before Facebook, before Twitter, before the vast majority of social media was out there. It seems rather quaint in retrospect. 1/2004
Too bad redesigning one's blog doesn't burn calories. If so, the four hours I just spent doing it would have done me good.
A short, boring list of what I've ingested since the beginning of the Season of Overindulgence, which begins with American Thanksgiving, includes stuffing/dressing, (my) birthday cake, stuffing/dressing, candy, candy, fruitcake, candy (Christmas), booze, cheese, crackers, little sausagey things, cheese, cheese, cheese, guacamole & salsa dip, chips, and booze (New Year's). That pretty well sums up why I feel like crud.
So what's a good thing to do on New Year's afternoon, after having one too many kamikaze shooters on New Year's Eve? My idea of a "good thing" was an attempt to focus on my web page redesign. I use the term loosely, because I'm only a second-tier TypePad member and therefore can only monkey with the design/layout to a point. Colours though--what fun! I can choose any colours I want. So despite feeling very fuzzy, I plunged in. First, I changed my banner. The old banner was a stock pic I found when I moved from Blogger to TypePad, just over 2 months ago. It had been rather a rush job. My intent was to warn anyone with youngsters hanging over their shoulder, that I have some R-rated content here.
Even though at first glance the couple in my previous banner looked perfect, upon scrutiny one noticed that she'd been in the lake fully clothed including her socks, and they were all bunched up and goofy-looking. I like when something that you would think is perfect turns out to have flaws.
I've noticed that other bloggers seemed to going through some changes as well. Maybe an end-of-year ritual purging of the old?
Some bloggers are taking the purging thing to the extreme--they are using the end of the year as an opportunity to kick the blog habit. Yup. They are quitting--going off into the great land of RL. I say, good for them. Most seem happy about it. Reasons cited include having said all they feel they can say, blogging taking away too much time from other activities/commitments, and blogging having taken on an addictive quality.
I shan't call the kettle black, as the old phrase goes, because I spend a lot of time blogging. I also spend a lot of time doing other things. If I had to pick one activity that I do less of because I blog, it's housework. I've fobbed some of it off on my two kids who are ages 11, and almost 21. The 11 y.o. had chores already, so I haven't given him much else to do--the occasional mopping of the floor, some vacuuming. The older one is on a very short leash right now. In the past, he wouldn't do his share--he did nothing to contribute to the maintenance of the house. He knows now that if he doesn't help, he doesn't live here.
The other activity that I do less of (though I wasn't doing much of it before) is watch television. Because of blogging, I forget to watch what were my favorite shows--and I really don't care, because I'm choosing between passively sitting in front of the tube, versus composing, working on my photography and reading--all on-line. I'm thinking the computer time wins out. Do I goof off on-line? Absolutely. When I'm finished with everything else, I'll go to FARK or elsewhere for diversion.
Well, this has turned out to be a exercise in navel gazing. It's about as good a thing to do with my spare time as anything else.
