True Blood - Season 3 SPOILERS Round Up (1.31.10)

Spoilers from this week are rather small but, if you are keeping an eye on new character casting, yet another a significant shift in a an old familiar character, and more about Jason's love life or a fresh video bit of real-life loves Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (Sookie and Bill) this will be news for you.

True Blood - New Season 3 Spoilers

Q: Any new spoilers for season 3 of True Blood?
Ausiello: Carrie Preston hints that “something very unexpected is going to happen with her character Arlene… [She] might just be nervous enough about the supernatural characters around her that she will try to do something about it. I think she is going to try to figure out a way to protect herself. She gets very upset. She doesn’t think vampires should be around children.”

Not to jump on the "read the Sookie books vs. not," bandwagon because it is darn crowded, but Carrie Preston's comments fit with a radical turn her character takes in the book series. As much as I think Carrie Preston rocks as Arlene, her character is very much part of Merlotte's tapestry and I'd be surprised if her role is expanded enough that beyond doing something stupid a time or two this season she won't impact the show much.

Question: What’s Jason going to be up to on True Blood this season (aside from taking his shirt off, of course)?
Ausiello: “He finally discovers the long lost art of love,” reveals his portrayer, Ryan Kwanten. “Well, at least his version of. It gets him into more trouble that he expected. He’s also dealing with the fact that he committed a small crime in that he killed [Eggs].” What’s been his biggest acting challenge so far this season? “I start the season in bed with two girls,” he says. “Not that I couldn’t do it, but a challenge? Sure.”

Dawn Olivieri has been just cast in the role of "Janice Herveaux" in Season 3 of True Blood. Dawn is a lead in the SyFy movie HYDRA, and she is the voice of Pepper Potts in the new Avengers animated series scheduled to air this fall (2010) on Disney XD.

According to casting calls Janice’s character is described as a '32-yr-old fit, tough as nails woman, in biker gear, into horoscopes and psychics who also happens to be Alcide’s protective older sister.'

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan - 'Caprica is burning' Hybrid Video - Photos - Screen Caps

"Caprica is burning." --the Hybrid 

This is one of two or three scenes in the Battlestar Galactica telefilm, 'The Plan' (1st aired 01.10.10 ) that I really liked. The Hybrid remains strange and intriguing. Not human, not cylon but the heart and brain of each basestar.

A Hybrid summarizes the Fall of the Twelve Colonies and notes all but the colony of Sagittaron.

"Progress reports arriving. The farms of Aerilon are burning. The beaches of Canceron are burning. The plains of Leonis are burning. The jungles of Scorpia are burning. The pastures of Tauron are burning. The harbours of Picon are burning. The cities of Caprica are burning. The oceans of Aquaria are burning. The courthouses of Libran are burning. The forests of Virgon are burning. The temples of Gemenon are burning. The Colonies of Man lie trampled at our feet."

More from the Hybrid's lips: 

Seized by God they cry for succor in the dark of the light. Mists of dreams drip along the nascent echo and love no more. Jump.

Counting down. All functions nominal. All functions optimal. Counting down. The center holds. The falcon hears the falconer. Infrastructure, check. Wetware, check. Everyone hang on to the lap bar, please.

Apotheosis was the beginning before the beginning. Devices on alert. Observe the procedures of a general alert. The base and the pinnacle. The flower inside the fruit that is both its parent and its child. Decadent as ancestors. The portal in that which passes.

One has to wonder where she gets some of her material but she's cool just the same. Crazy cool.

Tough-Six and Galactica-Cavil drunkenly lament on the failure of the Cylons to destroy the Fleet:

Six: You want a progress report? I'll give you a frakkin' progress report.

Cavil: Oh, no. Please don't. Please don't.

Six: Oh, come on, it is spectacular. Doral blew himself up, causing minor damage to a minor hallway. And Boomer jettisoned the water, and then, she personally found loads more water. (Laughing) And then she shot Adama, but not very accurately, since she loved him. And then, Leoben, he got obsessed with Kara Thrace, and then was captured and airlocked.

And my sister Six utterly failed to discredit Baltar and his dreamy hair and destroyed our frakkin' cover in the process.

And now Simon...Simon killed himself, really killed himself, out of resurrection range, without blowing up the ship that he lived on because he couldn't imagine life without his little human wife and his little human daughter because he loves them...

Cavil: Stop, stop, stop.

Six: Guess I'd better.

Cavil: Yes. They're all letting me down.

Six: Why are they letting you down, One? What's the x-factor? (She takes the bottle) You can't declare war on love. (She leaves)

Cavil: I think I already did. Hey, where'd the bottle go?

Battlestar Galactica: We Knew Already that the Cylons Had a Plan *SPOILERS*

Not compelling (or important) enough for a real name but fun to look at: "Tough Six" (Tricia Helfer).

Hard now to believe I was this excited  7 months ago to see the long-off Battlestar Galactica mini, ''The Plan," a recounting of the Cylon perspectives leading up to and shortly after the destruction of the 12 Colonies. It was to be as well an opportunity to get answers to some pressing questions that had were not answered in the series, leaving quite a few fans peeved.

Unlike many comments I saw at the time, my quibble wasn't a WTF? about Angel!Kara, Angel!Six or Angel!Baltar (!?!) I had but one teeny-tiny query, one that probably no longer mattered other than as the answer to a BSG trivia question.

I wanted to know who met with Caprica Six outside the Marketplace on Caprica just before the bombs fell. It was kept secret from the viewer from the miniseries' inception in 2003 through the series finale in 2009. It was a simple question to be answered and those bastard writers near series' end in Season 4 hinted enough to give it away--but one couldn't be sure until viewing The Plan and then, there it was. Yet a another scene involving Cavil or "One," the evil Cylon mastermind responsible for the destruction of the colonies. He did so, as he freely admitted, to impress the Final Five---his makers--his parents--as we found in the later BSG Season 4 episodes. Cavil's mommy issues (she told him he was damaged goods from the get-go and boy, did they illustrate that until my brain hurt in "The Plan") is ostensibly why there was "A Plan" and frankly, that is almost LOL funny, if it were not so unimaginative. Meh.

Even Cylons have issues and there are issues are aplenty in The Plan. Having had Jane Espenson pen it, how else could it have gone down?

Some Stuff you'll see or learn in "The Plan" - We  see more of the Six named Shelly Godfrey and how she was coerced by (who else?) Cavil to frame Baltar.  She was airlocked--by Cavil for her efforts, solving the mystery of how she 'escaped.'

 

In 'The Plan' you learn that Cavil gave Boomer her instructions while she was in sleeper mode. We see the "device"--a pocket sized wooden carved elephant used to switch her back and forth.

You see Cavil macking on both Boomer--see just below--and Six--both really creepy stuff.. Just yuck. What was wrong with Leoben or Simon!?!

Scroll quickly if you cannot bear to watch Cavil's sexual coercion of the confused and suicidal Boomer:

 

 

 

Despite NOT being in sleeper mode, Boomer still has to be coerced by Cavil into shooting Adama.

Bleh! Looks like a grandpa kissing a teenager.

What was wrong with Battlestar Galactica's 'The Plan?"

Start with waaay too much of this guy --#1 --a/k/a (Brother)Cavil. This was one of his better scenes as it answered for once and all, in the BSG miniseries, who did Caprica Six meet with in the Marketplace shortly after bidding Gaius Baltar goodbye--shortly before the destruction of the Colonies?

Michael C. Hall Nails It Again, Wins SAG Best Actor for 'Dexter' (01.23.10) PHOTOS

"Healthy" looks very appealing too. Be sure to click past the jump at the bottom of the page to read several of Michael's comments how winning both the Golden Globe and SAG Best Actor awards has boosted his spirits as he moves closer to completing his cancer treatments. To me he looks brighter--less wan than he did a week ago when he won the Best Actor trophy at the Golden Globes.

Michael won the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his work in Dexter. This will be Michael's second award season win after picking up Best Actor at last week's Golden Globes.

The 2010 SAG Awards were held at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, January 23, 2010.

After the jump: Michael C. Hall comments on how winning both the Golden Globe and SAG Best Actor awards has boosted his spirits as he moves closer to completing his cancer treatments.

As he told PEOPLE backstage, Michael C. Hall's cancer is in remission.

"I'm two-thirds of the way through this treatment that already has this thing in remission," he said. "It's nice in the homestretch to have this kind of shock of positive energy. It's a celebration." Hall, 38 ... initially said he revealed that he was being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma, because he knew he would be making several public appearances. "Because award shows were imminent, I had to make a statement," he said at last week's Globes.
... "I've been feeling very well," he told reporters backstage at the SAG Awards, "because I made this announcement. Because of these public events, I've heard from people I would have not have heard from otherwise."

The cast of True Blood was  nominated for Best Dramatic Ensemble at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Saturday night.

Stephen Moyer, looked sharp in a custom-tailored black tuxedo, dress shirt and shoes all by Burberry, while his fiancee, Anna Paquin, chose a beautiful low-cut short gown by Alexander McQueen.

Anna Paquin, who presented, and Stephen Moyer were spotted arriving at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night (January 23) as part of the True Blood cast nominated as an ensemble. The pair looked very much the loving, engaged couple if not a bit nervous as they graciously repeatedly stopped for the obligatory press chats and photo ops on the red carpet.

Note that Stephen still has his 'Vampire Bill' dyed-darker hair.  Anna, who I believe is wearing hair extensions (one is not supposed to be able to tell--so kudos Anna's stylist!),  is also keeping her blond roots firmly at bay, a practice done only during filming of  True Blood. Take a closer look at Anna's awesome wrist cuff. With her dress being so dramatic she needed very few accessories.I think she got it perfectly!

True Blood - Alan Ball: Season 3 has " a triumvirate of evil. " (01.21.10) - Alex Skarsg ård Spills

Even though we are still (somewhat patiently) waiting for Season 3 of True Blood to start it doesn't mean that there isn't plenty of news bits emanating from 'sources' as well as True Blood cast who spill. Here's the latest from Ausiello who nailed down the actor who plays our favourite Viking vampire Eric, for a couple of choice tidbits - Alexander Skarsgård.

Q: In response to the request for (what else) True Blood news:
A: "It’ll take three villains to replace last season’s one Big Bad, Maryann. “We have a triumvirate of evil this season,” reveals exec producer Alan Ball. “I’m talking about Franklin Mott, Russell Edgington, and Debbie Pelt. They are all bad to the bone. They’re not just crazy, they’re evil.” Speaking of the yet-to-be-cast Debbie Pelt, Ball tells me that the Alcide’s psycho ex will actually have a bigger role than first thought. “We actually beefed up Debbie,” he says. “She’s going to be in more episodes, so maybe that will have an impact on [what actress] we can get for her, which is a big question right now.”

Q: Loved the pic you snapped of Alex Skarsgård at the Golden Globes. Did you by any chance get any True Blood scoop out of him?

A: No, I just took the picture and ran off. Of course I got some scoop out of him. Specifically, I asked him to give me a preview of Eric’s season 3 journey.

“I’d say it’s about revenge,” he told me. “He will continue to explore the whole Sookie thing and what that’s all about. He’s trying to figure out what’s different about her. He’s intrigued by that. And in addition to that, there’s something that happened a thousand years ago that he’s still carrying in his heart. *NEW* Disney Alice in Wonderland UHQ Promotional Photos - Soundtrack Listing - Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

NEW Disney Alice in Wonderland UHQ Promotional Photos (large) were made public today by Spoiler TV.

Also, within the last week Disney released the soundtrack listing for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

The album, which is being called Almost Alice, will be in stores in March 2nd, with a video for the soundtrack’s first single, “Alice (Underground)” by Avril Lavigne, due in early February.

Sigourney Likely To Turn Up In AVATAR Sequel

 

Sigourney Weaver hinted on the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday night that she could return for a sequel. "I really can't say anything, but it's science fiction," she said. "Anything can happen."

True Blood Season 3 - Cupid Strikes Bill and Sam (01.19.10) *SPOILERS* - Stephen & Anna at The Golden Globes

Aww. A Bill and Sam hook-up without the deets?! Not fair! Lafayette as awesome as he is, has a much more um, fluid range of sexual expression it seems, while both Sam (Sam Trammell) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) have thus far appeared as 100% straight guys. True Blood has outdone itself in outrageousness as each season has passed. Sounds like AB & Co. are about to take it up one more notch. Bring it on!

If you’re one of the (many) True Blood viewers who suspected there might be fallout from Bill “donating” blood to save Sam’s life in the finale last September, go ahead and give yourself a gold star. The show’s boss, Alan Ball, tells me that in season 3, the hunks will forge “not just any connection, an erotic connection.”

How erotic? Ball wouldn’t say. But at least he was more forthcoming with regard to another upcoming same-sex couple-to-be: Lafayette and his new love interest Jesus (played by Southland’s Kevin Alejandro). Bon Temps’ resident V peddler “is very guarded, and Jesus is a guy who is willing to knock down some of those guards,” he says. “[Though] it’s not an easy relationship, they have a lot in common. They’re both shamans of sorts, healers, so there’s a reason they get brought together.

“But,” he emphasizes again, “it’s not going to be easy.”

True Blood creator Alan Ball says he will be casting the part of a female werewolf named Debbie Pelt whom he describes as "a badass bitch you do not want to get on the wrong side of. She is not going to like Sookie." Look for the character debut in the third episode of the upcoming third season.

*It also sounds like they'll be plenty of sex in the season premiere, with Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) ended up in a backwoods Arkansas motel room with a familiar face. "It should be curious and confusing to viewers," teases Trammell. But Ryan Kwanten says his character, Jason Stackhouse, ups Sam by one. "My character wakes up in the first episode with two women beside him," Ryan boasts. The actor's also looking forward to seeing Jason enjoy a more meaningful romance. "He will find love in the werewolf world, and love is a pretty unknown concept for him."

Alfre Woodard joins the series as Ruby Jean Reynolds, mother to Lafayette and aunt to Tara. Alfre describes her character as "nuts. She's not going to be a person that the audience loves. She's not very accepting of Lafayette, which is fun to play."

Michael C. Hall Wins Golden Globe Best Actor For 'Dexter'; Says Cancer "A personal matter" - List of Globe Winners

Congratulations to Michael C. Hall, a natural pick for his title role in Showtime's Dexter, which will commence making Season 5 this Wednesday, according to Hall.

When he won and had to appear onstage it was rather startling to see him looking like a cancer patient. When he released his 'official statement' last week he was not precise about several things including at what stage of treatment for the disease he is in. He looks a bit wan but otherwise pretty good!

Michael C. Hall won his first Golden Globe, for his role on "Dexter," but not surprisingly his recent revelation that he battling cancer was on people's minds.

Last week Hall revealed he has been fighting Hodgkin's lymphoma and plans to beat it, as he is in remission.

A hat pulled over his head, Hall thanked his wife in his speech as he teared up. In the press room afterward, reporters couldn't help but ask after his health.

E!'s Ted Casablanca asked first, and Hall said, "I had every intention of keeping it quiet, but because the award shows were imminent, I thought I'd make a statement."

Of his hat he said, "I wanted something that was pretty simple, but a maybe a little fancier than your normal thing."

Here's some other highlights from the press room:

• What made this season special: "Well John certainly turned the knob up to 11. He's such a phenomenal talent and has such an energy about him that affects everyone from the crew to the producers."
• On his current battle with cancer: "Well, it's a personal matter and to be completely frank, I had every intention of keeping it quiet. Because the award shows were imminent, I figured I would make a statement. It was also nice to make a statement at the point in my treatment that I did, where I was able to assure people that I am really on the road to recovery. And it's nice to have a justifiable excuse for accessorizing."
• On enjoying the night's excitement: "I like to think that I have a pretty good head on my shoulders and that I don't get too swept up, but I've never been less susceptible to getting swept up in a night like this considering the more down in the trenches kind of stuff I've been considering with the treatment. But, it's really been nice. It's really nice to see colleagues who know about it. Just to check in with them is really gratifying for me. I've very honored."

UPDATE (1.15.10) Lauren Velez speaks about DEXTER'S Michael C. Hall - Cancer In Remission

This bit of news about made my blood run cold upon first reading it. I suppose it is always a surprise to hear news of this sort. It is quite the relief that Michael Hall is coming out the other side of this health crisis. I'm sure it's been a rough go of it and I'll be quite excited to see him alive and well at the Golden Globes, which in all honesty I wouldn't be watching otherwise.

I hope he wins because he earned it!

LOS ANGELES — Dexter star Michael C. Hall announced Wednesday he has been battling cancer, but said he’s almost finished with treatment and the disease is in remission. "I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care," Hall, 38, said Wednesday in a statement.

The actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. The disease is considered highly treatable with the potential for full recovery.

Hall, 38, said in a statement he is lucky to have been diagnosed with the “treatable and curable condition” – Hodgkin’s lymphoma – and thanked his Los Angeles-area medical team for their skill in caring for him.

His spokesman, Craig Bankey, said Hall’s cancer is in remission but the actor will continue scheduled treatments and that Hall will return to production on the drama's fifth season later this year..

Hall plans to go with his wife – and Dexter costar – Jennifer Carpenter to Sunday’s Golden Globes, where he's nominated for best dramatic actor and the show as best drama. He also plans to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards the following Saturday, where Hall and the cast are also nominated.  Hall is a nominated for his role as Dexter Morgan, a serial killer working as a blood-spatter expert.

UPDATE (1.15.10) Johnny Depp Arrives for the Kustendorf International Film and Music Festival in Drvengrad

I love that the "Sexiest Man Alive" looks like a dude that some folks when in a crowd would give ample space to when navigating around because, I mean look at him!

The plaid shirt he's wearing looks like it's on it's way to becoming much like a 'shirt' my brother refuses to part with having had it more than half his life which is now literally a rag. Something tells me that Johnny's shirt too is a sentimental favourite.

Depp also has a purple bandanna sticking out of his pocket which could serve a couple of purposes but is  what I'm guessing he uses as a barrier between his hands and whatever handle he does not want to touch. Ironically, because Depp has been doing this for many years and the rest of us caught on rather late, he was bashed as eccentric for not exposing himself to all manner of germie things that he comes across in his travels. Who is laughing now, huh?

Can't say I totally dig the sunglasses but it's what is beneath them that makes him oh-so-worthy of that silly sexy guy award. Johnny Depp fans need no such moniker bestowed upon him. He is the sexiest man alive every year.

Here's a clever HBO spot letting everyone know that Season 3 of True Blood is indeed in production. More on that below.

True Blood - Episode 3.04 - '9 Crimes' - Casting Call
The casting call for True Blood Episode 3.04 has been released.

Titled “9 Crimes” (from the 2006 piano pop song by Damien Rice), Episode 4 of Season 3  introduces the character that in interviews Alan Ball has expressed the most enthusiasm for.

Yes folks, Debbie Pelt (got  to love the last name but if you are in the dark, you won't be after getting acquainted with her) is being cast for this episode. She’s Alcide’s'  'beloved ex' and a 'V' (vampire blood) addict to boot!  The character is described as being in her late 20s, appearing "strung out and stubborn."

This description supplies only an inkling of what Ms. Pelt is like. I can't wait to see who they cast because she'll need gravitas. This is a recurring character.

Alcide's sister is also being cast. Janice is described as "(age) 32, fit and tough as nails... She fancies biker gear, horoscopes and psychics and is protective of her little brother."

AB and Co. have cooked up another entirely new character in "Kitch Maynard". Kitch is a "17-year-old... new high school football star and hometown hero, which he enjoys rubbing in Jason’s face." (Isn't Jason like 30 y.o.? Why would he care?) Kitch is a recurring character. This description also states that Kitch might participate in some "Possible car ass type nudity." Is that legal?!

Kitch has an admirer, "Donny," who works the road crew with Jason while "he kisses up to Kitch, the new high school football star..."

Rounding out this trio is "Tammy," age 16. She is "Kitch's hot girlfriend who drives around with him in his sports car and giggles at Kitch's rudeness."

This episode also calls for fresh blood in the form of  an exotic stripper, "Ann," who is described as striking-looking, scantily clad and "dead behind the eyes." Ann performs topless and will be glamoured and devoured by three vampires.
Um, wow.

Injecting some Christianity into this episode is "Chip Welling, a clean-cut, all-American Christian boy recognizes Jessica from Bible study. He’s relieved to see her alive." Boy, is Chip in for a surprise! Should be fun.

I'm not sure if it's been announced if the were village of Hotshot, which was in the books, will be part of the show. The characters who reside there seem to be taking shape--like Felton Norris--described as "in his early 20s and a violent young punk." He's a relative of the cooler-headed Calvin Norris. Felton strips Lafayette's car and helps beat up Lafayette."

Oh noes! Lafayette is gonna get pummeled again? He gets smacked around almost as much as Sookie does!

AVATAR: Is a Trilogy In The Works?

Gosh. I suppose this shows that I'm pretty naive about what goes on behind the scenes of mega-movies like AVATAR because it is now rather apparent that was long-ago agreed, contingent upon the box office success of AVATAR, that there would not only be a sequel but AVATAR would become a trilogy.

I loved the film, saw it three times (though once, due to the packed theatre was nauseatingly close to the screen so maybe two-and-a half times) so I'm very interested in talk of more AVATAR.

One problem for me however is that my favourite character Grace, (Sigourney Weaver) was killed. Certainly there could be a prequel that shows the very beginning of the human - Na'vi interactions including the process of Grace starting the school and since we know things went south with that-- more about how the human-aliens began effing it all up. It doesn't have to be a prequel (as it sounds like that is not what the decision-makers are moving toward). It could instead be a retelling of some of the human-Na'vi history.

They also killed "Trudy Chacon," the helicopter pilot played by Michelle Rodriguez. Though her helicopter went down in flames, with her backstory indicating she'd been on Pandora for years she could still appear. Or since Michelle's features would lend themselves very well to a Na'vi avatar, perhaps she can come back in another role entirely.

After muttering about how an AVATAR franchise would make sense and hinting that there could be a trilogy of AVATAR films, James Cameron has confirmed that there will be an AVATAR sequel, fueling speculation about how it might top the original...

Things we do know: There are two planned sequels but they won't be one continuous story, they'll be self-contained. They'll also follow Jake and Neytiri. It could take place around a different moon of Polyphemus this time, although producer Jon Landau has already hinted about exploring Pandora's interior. Some bloggers guess that James Cameron, famously obsessed with water, has an amazing underwater environment mapped out for Pandora. There are also different Na'vi tribes that call the planet their home and we never really got a sense of how intra-species politics work between the different tribes. Cameron confirmed he’s mapped out what will happen in the sequels, although he hasn’t written any scripts yet.

True Blood Season 3 News (1.8.10) Details About Alcide & Sookie *SPOILERS*

According to True Blood creator Alan Ball, whether you’re a fan of Bill and Sookie or Sookie and Eric, season 3 of the HBO hit is sure to make you very unhappy. And, oddly, very happy, too. “Take a look at Joe [Manganiello],” he teases of the hunk he cast as the psychic’s new love interest, the werewolf Alcide. “Do you think [they] have reason to be worried?”

Rhetorical questions aside, the writer is confident that, just as his new hire won him over, he’ll win over viewers. “We were looking for a guy who was big, sexy, decent and heroic, with some darkness,” he says. “And [Manganiello] showed us all of that in the audition.”

In fact, the One Tree Hill alum so impressed the boss that he wasn’t asked to take a chemistry test with leading lady Anna Paquin. “We do that when we have four or five options,” Ball explains, “and in this instance, I felt like Joe was the only one who came close to what the character needed to be.”

Though Alcide isn’t introduced as a potential suitor for Sookie — “As in the book, he’s helping her find [her kidnapped boyfriend] Bill,” Ball notes, “and he has a business reason for owing Eric a favor” — one (bad) thing leads to an (incredibly sexy) other. “He’s there with her during a very painful time in her life — and his life, actually. And they’re thrown into some pretty intense situations together.
“And hello, he’s hot!” he adds with a laugh. “And hello, so is she. Two hot people in some intense situations and, for whatever reasons, there significant others are not there… they’re human.”..

LOL. Alan Ball may have as well said --at least based on Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series-- that Sookie dates a lot! Seriously, after Bill Sookie becomes pretty popular. Now is it due to her natural assets, her oh-so-charming ways--or could a touch of fairy dust have something to do with it?

Avatar Tops $1 Billion - Cameron Again 'King of World' - Pandora's Plant Life - Sigourney Interview Video

James Cameron's science-fiction blockbuster "Avatar" takes place in 2154 on the lush moon Pandora. To help make the set believable, Jodie Holt, chairwoman of the department of botany and plant sciences at UC Riverside, was approached to consult on the film's plant life, as well as how a botanist would study such flora.

Holt, a plant physiologist, talked about her involvement in the film and the "Pandorapedia," a detailed catalog of the moon's features, including its many plants.

'Avatar' Rules, Tops $1 BILLION Worldwide

LOS ANGELES — James Cameron's science-fiction epic "Avatar" had another stellar weekend with $68.3 million domestically, shooting past $1 billion worldwide, only the fifth movie ever to hit that mark.

No. 1 for the third-straight weekend, 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" raised its domestic total to $352.1 million after just 17 days. The film added $133 million overseas to lift its international haul to $670 million, for a worldwide gross of $1.02 billion.

"Avatar" opened two weekends earlier with $77 million, a strong start but far below dozens of other blockbusters that debuted as high as $158 million. But business for other blockbusters usually tumbles in following weekends, while "Avatar" revenues barely dropped over the busy Christmas and New Year's weekends.

"It's like a runaway freight train. It just keeps doing business," said Fox distribution executive Bert Livingston. "Here's what's happening: I think everybody has to see `Avatar' once. Even people who don't normally go to the movies, they've heard about it and are saying, `I have to see it.' Then there's those people seeing it multiple times."

"Avatar" was Cameron's first film since 1997's "Titanic," the biggest modern blockbuster with $1.8 billion worldwide.

I'm in the 'seen it multiple times' group.

The third time was by necessity as the second was in stomach-turning, barely watchable 3D and I saw little of it as it was meant to be seen. We were about 25 feet from the screen, in maybe row six of the jammed-to-the gills movie theatre. We'd only gotten to the box office twenty minutes before Avatar was to start and didn't think to ask if there were still seats together. There were not. Not more that 2, anyway.

So. We went again to see Avatar on New Year's Day and got there one hour before start time.They were sold out. We opted to stick around and wait for the next show which was in 2 hours. They probably let us in the theater about 40 minutes before the show--and booyah! we were first in line so the seats we picked were exactly were we wanted to be.

So far then I've see Avatar in 2-D with no crowds, in 3-D unable to enjoy in by sitting in the way-wrong place and finally, two nights ago in a very crowded theatre in 3-D--but sans stomach issues so able to really pay attention to it.

Everyone has something to say about Avatar. Though Sigourney Weaver may not super tops on most lists, for me both Weaver and director-writer James Cameron were compelling reasons for wanting to see the film.

I loved Sigourney Weaver in Avatar. I'm beyond thrilled that she's yet again been in a film that will long be remembered as outstanding. Besides her role as Ripley in the Alien film quadrilogy (with 'Aliens' having been directed by James Cameron) she kicked butt in Galaxy Quest--a spoof on sci-fi television. She's 60, she's lovely and compelling, and she's awesome-looking in blue!

Kevin Alejandro to play 'Jesus' in HBO's vampire drama

"Southland" co-star Kevin Alejandro...is joining Alan Ball's vampire drama "True Blood."

Alejandro, expected to appear in almost every episode of the HBO series' upcoming third season, will play Jesus, a Latino orderly who is taking care of Ruby Jean Reynolds (Alfre Woodard) at her care facility and becomes involved with her son, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis).

Alejandro continues to be attached as a regular to "Southland," which recently moved from NBC to TNT. Because of the cable network's plan to air the 13 produced episodes of the cop drama, starting Jan. 12, before making a decision whether to order a second season, Alejandro can accommodate "Blood" while keeping his obligation to "Southland."

I'm not sure what other people are thinking but working as an orderly in a care facility sounds like the perfect place for a vampire trying to keep a low profile. Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), last we saw of him was both repulsed and strongly drawn to vampires after consuming copious quantities of Eric Northman's blood. And the strangely beautiful Alejandro with his mixed Latino colouring including pretty blue eyes would definitely fit into Alan Ball's world of vamps.

I've read Kevin Alejandro's bio-resume and though I've seen him in both 'Weeds' and 'Sons of Anarchy' I remember him from neither and on Weeds especially, a 30-minute Showtime gig, one would think  if he were memorable that it wouldn't be so hard to recall the guy. OTOH, if other than his 'Southland' co-starring role he's been mostly assigned standard Latin thug roles well, that would explain.

I'm late to the table in watching "Sons of Anarchy." I paid no attention to it's premium cable-like schedule for Season One (only 12 episodes) and I missed the first two episodes of Season 2. I simply was unaware of the show's existence.

After watching the pilot a few days ago I was immediately hooked. What drew me to finally watching was a television critic who I wouldn't have guessed would go for this sort of thing.

She did an interview with Katey Sagal about the new season and I was intrigued. So from here on in, I'm a Sons of Anarchy fangirl. This is sort of a case of deja vu in that I ignored The Sopranos with whom this shows shares commonalities for its first season as well. I literally thought the show was about singers and since sopranos tend to be a bit...prissy and I'm an alto, thought there would be nothing of interest to me. Just like SoA though, as soon as I viewed the pilot I was sucked in and stayed that way for the duration of its run on HBO.

Sons of Anarchy, like the Sopranos is very guy-centered in it's focus. (Usually I'm not a big fan of guy-centered shows unless there are some strong female characters  for balance.) The main venues in SofA are a car repair shop which is a front for the illegal activities brokered at the SoA motorcycle club (and other usually dark and/or dingy venues). I almost feel like I should defend my enjoyment of the show but I didn't do so with Sopranos and one is every bit as violent as the other. Sons of Anarchy is slightly less profane and skin-baring but not much. The stories are just as intense and I can envision plenty of material for this show to draw from. Despite the title of the show I think Katey Sagal is the central force driving Sons of Anarchy. Matriarch "Gemma" is the wife of the SoA president, mother of the SoA president and widow of the SoA founder--so she's entrenched and appears to want it exactly that way. Gemma is "Carmela" in black leather and lace.

There are a lot of physically unattractive characters in this show. The bikers are scarred due to knifings, bullets, and the like as well as profusely tattooed. Some are well into middle-age and are afflicted with various ailments.

Gemma is a very attractive woman of about 50 and an exception in the good looks department--she has them.
So do a few stray women and Jax's on-again off-again love interest, Tara but otherwise we have some realistic-looking biker chick girlfriends though none seem to ride (including Gemma & Tara).

I've caught up enough now to be able watch Episode 3, "Fix" which airs tonight (Tuesday). It's has been quite an undertaking, mucking around with the internet. Thank you, Hulu for having almost all the recaps from Season 1 currently airing along with the entire episode of the premiere of Season 2. Hulu is running the entire season, (Season 2 episodes are available on an 8-day delay from their original air dates. Each episode will be available for three weeks.)

After I get up and running I'll try to find legit YouTube-based vids of SoA recaps and switch them out from the full eppys which I'll  keep here for the 3-week duration.
