FOR AIRDATE SEPTEMBER 13TH 2009: (Episode 2x12 Season Finale)
The mayhem in Bon Temps reaches a fever pitch as Maryann prepares for her ultimate bestial sacrifice, conscripting Sookie to be Maid of Honor at the bloody nuptials. Meanwhile, Sophie-Anne warns Eric to keep the lid on Bill's inquisitiveness; Jason leads Andy into the heroic abyss; and Hoyt has a hard time swallowing Maxine's endless stream of insults. Deliberating on what may be his final move to save Sookie and the town, Sam is forced to put his trust, and his life, in a most unlikely ally.
I made the screen caps from the video. Some of them are quite nice. Others, no matter how I tried I couldn't get them clear. If you like them, take them. They don't belong to me--they are HBO property and they've been good at sharing. :)
I was kind of underwhelmed
with the Queen Sophie-Anne scenes in episode 11 ("Frenzy"). I realize Bill
is supposed to be a wet blanket but hopefully, our favourite Viking vamp
will crank up the heat a bit.
I know we are being manipulated into hating Bill. It's working for me and the only thing that is "saving" him is his utter, sincere devotion to Sookie--regardless of any circumstances that may come into play. That never changes. He's being rather an a-hole here to poor Sam.
Yes, this is Jessica, causing
some mayhem of her own. At least we've seen exactly how deep Hoyt's
mama's boy's roots go. He's pushing thirty--too old for her anyway. I know they were "cute," but seriously? Hoyt?
Lafayette looks super scary here.
I would be very happy to see
Arlene die. This character does nothing for me. She served her purpose
as the gf of the Bon Temps murderer in season 1. She was just another
Mariann minion this year.
Plus, she's kind of slutty and I'm not really fond of slutty moms.
Sookie really looks like she is mouth a word that starts with "J."
Yikes. Whomever that knife went into doesn't look like they will survive season 2. Really doubt it is Sam. Too obvious.

Maryann has gathered everyone in Bon Temps to witness her marriage to "the God Who Comes." She has hexed them all and they all have "bug-eyes" and have no will of their own. For "The God" to come, he needs a "vessel"-- and an offering, in this case many kinds of meat and an ostrich egg--and a human sacrifice. Sam Merlotte is the unlucky guy who will literally give up his heart to Maryann. Eggs is tasked with first stabbing Sam, allowing Maryann to determine that Sam meets the requirements--which he does. From there, due to a plan known only to Sam and Vampire Bill, things get very unpredictable. NEWLY added! Sookie and Bill's Dance, Engaged or Not?, Bill's Garroting All photos belong to HBO. Sookie and Bill engagement cap thanks to True-Blood.net!

Valerie
Cruz. You've seen her before--like in last season's Dexter. She was
awesome in True Blood as Isabel, one of Godric's lieutenants, in her
coolness after her boyfriend made her look horrible in front of
everyone at Godric's lair--human's and vamps. Good that Stan went as
he'd have never let her forget it. Her dumb human FotS-loving bf
probably could be blamed for at least part of the explosion at Godric's
lair. Worst. Breakup. Ever. Gah. Humiliating. But then Stan dies and
shortly thereafter (dawn, actually) Godric was gone with the rising sun.
Godric appointed Isabel to take over his rulership of the Dallas
area, (though she verbally resisted--it seems up in the air with Stan
dead--maybe not).
Godric & Isabel, Godric's co-incommand previously with the now-dead Stan. Valerie Cruz - Allan Hyde
Isabel is stopping Eric which means she may be really old?
It was weird, she seemed like a vampire of maybe Lorena's age.
Godric characterized Lorena as "an old vampire" when he was throttling
her after she was attempting to rip Sookie's throat open. Also, Isabel
said she had known Godric a "long time." When you factor in Godric's
age it sort of points to Isabel as an "old vampire," too.
I thought Valerie Cruz was both beautiful and appealing as Isabel--yet
still obviously a vampire--with a long life history. Have to wonder who
she was 100, 200, 300(?) years ago.
Would love to see her have a recurring role on True Blood. Godric ceded
his territory sheriff-ship to her. It could play really well --and
don't she and Alexander S. look great together here?
Pilar invites Nancy to a fundraiser for Esteban, but with very specific instructions.

Episode 13

Nancy learns of Esteban's fate and takes action to preserve her own. Andy makes a big change in his life. Dean, Doug and Celia find common ground. Silas helps Adelita with a disturbing medical issue.

Two great things for you today, A NEW True Blood Sneak Peek from Episode 11, the second-to-last of season 2!
and...
Also I've been working with the screen caps with a lot of emo Erik - sorry--j/k--with Godric who is about to ignite on the roof of the hotel. Some nice Sookie and Eric shots including a very meaningful, lusty look as she reaches out to him as he leaves the roof so he, before he too, becomes a *poof* of light.
The caps are credit of the fabuTrue-Blood.net who create thousands of screen caps for each episode of True Blood--plus have a great--possibly the best--True Blood fansite on the Internet! Thanks, ladies!
Anna Paquin is Nylon Magazine's September cover girl. If you check out the online article you'll see what a lovely job they did with the photos of Anna.
I really wish since she is so often quoted, that reporters would stop asking her about the nudity on True Blood. It's such an American hang-up as Anna politely explains below.
I commented on this when her very tame initial encounter with Dream!Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) was aired and YouTube flipped out--not even allowing a shot of Skarsgård nude in profile with his leg covering "everything" and the tiniest bit of rump but no cheek showing. Down went the fan's videos almost as quickly as they were put up.
I can't believe that a premium cable channel's choice of content is a big deal. Americans are fine with the worst kind of violence and degradation on television but as Anna notes a bit of nipple is a crazy big deal. And that just makes no sense at all.

Up all night with Anna Paquin and her alter ego, True Blood's Sookie Stackhouse.
Anna Paquin has an Oscar, a cool accent, and maybe the best role on television – bombshell mind reader Sookie Stackhouse on True Blood.
We sat down with her, Stephen Moyer (aka Vampire Bill) and their Maker,
HBO producing legend Alan Ball, to discuss their bloody TV phenomenon.
Anna Paquin, on her Nude Scenes: “I
don’t think a naked body is particularly shocking or interesting… It’s
not the culture I was raised in. I was not brought up in the United
States. I don’t share the [attitude] that you can have graphic
violence, but – God forbid – you see someone’s nipples.”
Stephen Moyer, on Vampire Sex: “The
thing about vampirism is that it taps into a female point of view – you
have an old-fashioned gentleman with manners who is a fucking killer…
it’s an interesting duality, because in our present society it would be
an odd thing for a woman to say, ‘I want my man to be physical with
me.’ How, as a modern man, can you fucking work that? It’s one thing
to be polite and gentle… But when do you know it’s OK to crawl out of
the mud and rape her [as Bill does in one scene]?... It’s difficult
stuff for a bloke, but a vampire gets away with it…. I think that’s the
attraction of the show – it’s looking back at a romantic time when men
were men, but they were still charming.”
--INTERVIEW excerpt BY LUKE CRISELL
Anna Paquin hosts the NYLON September issue party. She's shown here with fiance Stephen Moyer (Vampire Bill on True Blood)
Q:Anything about Sookie's new power on True Blood?
A:Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette) has done his homework and spills the beans: "Well, I read the books, so I think she's part fairy. That was her fairy power." ... Rutina Wesley (who plays Sookie's BFF Tara)... tells us the show won't answer that question for certain any time in season two.
Who says Sookie's power is "new"? this was the first time she meet a maenad, maybe it's the first time her power showed itself.
[caption id="attachment_1051" align="alignright" width="283" caption="Pam and Eric"][/caption]
Q ...Someone surprising is going to save Sam Merlotte. Can you give us a hint?
Well, according to Tara Buck, who plays Fangtasia waitress Ginger, "I'm coming back this Sunday, and I don't want to give anything away, but everybody's back from Dallas, and there's a lot of stuff that's accumulated and a lot of danger. We've got everybody, we've got Sam (Sam Trammell) running from Maryann (Michelle Forbes), and he may actually..." ... we have it good authority that he may actually seek refuge with Eric
Q:I've just about had it with that maenad Maryann. Can we please get rid of her soon? A: Yes, Maryann will be vanquished, but it won't be easy. Nelsan Ellis tells us that no one character single-handedly takes her out, but rather it's a "group effort" by all of the good guys.
Keep in mind, "vanquished" does not mean "killed." My prediction is that Maryann leaves Bon Temps--maybe even Louisiana, but is still alive.
Q: Are any of the zombie couples on True Blood going to last? I love Arlene and Terry Bellefleur, and Tara and Eggs, and I hope they survive Maryann.
A:Anything's possible. Carrie Preston, who plays Merlotte's waitress Arlene tells us, "When you're possessed on the show, the next day, you don't remember. So they can start over—like a reset, a reboot...I don't know." In other romance news, Rutina says that Tara has real feelings for Eggs...
Eggs was not in the books so I have nothing to go on but I think he's going to die. Remember Alan Ball said the body count in Season 2 would be way higher than Season 1? The only Bon Temps notables so far have been Miss Jeanette and Daphne, both became heartless with an "intervention" by Maryann and Eggs. Otherwise maybe you could count Dallas vampire Stan--then just a few red-shirts--don't think they really count in the total tally.
Speaking of "zombie couples," I wouldn't be surprised if a number of orgy revelers came to a bad end. It always seems like there's got to be dues paid when too much fun has been had. I say the coroner's going to bite it and honestly, I'd like to see Arlene be the true shocker in terms of a regular cast member. I just think her character has served her purpose.
What can you tell us about Evan Rachel Wood's character?
Evan Rachel Wood, who makes her devilish debut on the show this coming Sunday playing the 1,100-year-old bloodsucker boss lady of Louisiana, says she could end up having sex scenes with any of her costars.
"She's not necessarily a lesbian," Wood, 21, recently explained to me. "Her human partner is a girl, but I'm pretty sure she goes both ways [laughs]. I think vampires are like that in general."
Having quite literally cut my teeth during the Star Trek, the original series' 1966-69 run, then fallen in love with Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994) and with the best Star Trek Captain ever--Jean-Luc Picard--as a twenty-something, having gone on to embrace Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and it's bold move to have the setting of the show deviate from all others in that it took place on a space station and having been pleased and a bit proud of the franchise's choice of a woman as a Star Trek captain in "Voyager," and finally, trying multiple times to embrace Scott Bakula as captain the Final Star Trek television series, which improbably had a four year-run between 2001-2005, I do feel competent to comment on the score of The Music of Star Trek Performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Music of Star Trek is comprised of sixteen tracks, covering all eleven
feature films and five television series. The track list is organized chronologically, showcasing first the films and then moving through the television series. The selections are
heavily weighted towards closing credits, with seven of eleven feature
selections being the close, which makes sense as that is where the main
theme and motifs of the film are generally revisited. This means we get
to hear the classic theme many times throughout with slight variations
as a bridge to the other themes. It is also
interesting to fully comprehend the impact that Jerry Goldsmith had on the
entire series. In addition to writing the new theme for Star Trek: The Motion Picture--the original
film, Jerry Goldsmith composed the score for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Nemesis as well as for thetelevision series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager.
Though there are a large handful of composing talents here which include James Horner (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search For Spock) Leonard Rosenman (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home), Cliff Eidelman (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) Dennis McCarthy (Star Trek: Generations) and of course, the soundtrack work of this year's "Star Trek" film by Michael Giacchino,it is the work of Jerry Goldsmith which speaks to me most.
The City of Prague Philharmonic has done a commendable job demonstrating their ability to make this soundtrack eminently listenable
with these stellar renditions of Star Trek's themes. You may want to think of The Music of Star Trek as both a "greatest hits" and cover album as the music bears a comfortably familiar vibe throughout.
You do not have to be a hard-core Star Trek fan to add this little gem to your collection. It can be appreciated for it's place in pop-culture and well as for it's musicianship, both on the part of the composers and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Episode 10, New World in My View was, as I'm sure many who watched will agree, not the best episode of Season 2 True Blood. It was essentially a series of scenes setting up the last two episodes of the 12 episode run.
We had Tara trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey, muttering and chanting, watched over by a worried Lafayette and Tara's mother.
Sam was still on the run--now with his new partner, the ever-pickled Andy Bellefleur and later, Jason who with Sookie & Bill returned to Bon Temps via Anubis Air shuttle bus to find their town in shambles.
Jason went charging over to Merlotte's with ammunition including a chainsaw and a nail gun to face off against Maryann's "minions" and rescue Andy and Sam from Sam's walk-in cooler.
Meanwhile Sookie and Bill arrived at Sookie's home, now occupied by Maryann where Sookie got in Maryann's face and had a strange moment that left Maryann captivated by "what" Sookie is (anyone else beginning to think maybe more than a mind-reader?). Bill thought he could take on Maryann using his traditional chomping-on-the-neck-style but her "blood" sickened him greatly and he and Sookie beat a hasty retreat. Upon finding Tara in Maryann-induced psychosis, Sookie entered her mind only to find...nothing. In desperation, Bill put the glamour whammy on Tara while Sookie again tapped into Tara's brain and this time Tara was able to come to her senses--for now, anyway.
Professing his inability to take on Maryann alone, Bill told Sookie there was someone he knew that he could try getting assistance from. Without elaborating and with instructions to "stay here with your friends," Bill left Bon Temps.

Hey, fellow Nurse Jackie fans! Can't believe that we have come to the last episode of Season 1 already! :(

Q: What can you tell us about the season finale of Nurse Jackie?A: We've seen the Nurse Jackie finale and could spill on everything, but that's no fun for you. Instead, here's what Peter Facinelli (Dr. Cooper) can reveal: "I can say that nothing gets tied up in a neat little bow for the end of this season. It's like life. The end of the day is not wrapped up in a neat little package. You have to wait to tomorrow to see how today really was. That's how it is with this show."Source: E! Online

I suppose that we will have to take Jason at his word that he "ain't ever been so clear (about something) in his life and that "this, here (the madness in Bon Temps) is the war (he has) been training for."
Interesting choice of words in the E10 synopsis below that Jason "takes the bull by the horns" to rescue Sam (temporarily).
Of course it could be simply an expression but it could also be referring to Maryann.

True Blood, Episode 10
New World in My View
Sookie, Bill, and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann. Lured to Merlotte’s by Arlene, Sam and Andy find cold comfort in their refuge from a group of bloodthirsty revelers. Bill discovers that traditional vampire techniques don’t work on Maryann; Hoyt and Jessica try to keep a lid on Maxine’s madness; and Sookie tries to push through the darkness consuming Tara. With all hell breaking loose, Jason takes the bull by the horns to rescue Sam, at least for the moment.

Can you hear Hoyt's mom in the background of this sneak peek shrieking about aliens and something like "I'm going to get you, fucker!"
WTH? She seemed bitchy and was horrible to Jessica in the last episode but she seemed in her right mind. What happened? Did Maryann's whammy on the patrons of Merlotte's of which the heavily drinking Maxine Fortenberry was one, somehow drive her around the bend? And will she be coming back?
I must pipe up here about YouTube's Victorian attitude towards women's breasts. With the vast quantity of utter garbage that is deemed acceptable on YouTube it is positively sickening that 2 brief shots of one nipple and a side view of Eric's backside -- not his buttocks--just profile with his leg strategically placed--and again, briefly have resulted in many videos being ordered taken down.
This was the mildest scene of a couple having pillow talk with some passionate kissing afterward. If the nipple shot had to go --OK-- though it's really not OK but the profile of Alexander Skarsgård's torso?! WTH?
There was implied sexuality but other than the brief shots I cited there was no sex. Having fans hack up the scene to make it pass YouTube censors completely destroyed what was a tasteful scene. Boo to YouTube. There's got to be a grown-up video service--is there not?-- and I do not mean porn. I mean agreeing that I'm (way ) over 18 years of age and then viewing soft R scenes which at most this was--I'm thinking more strong PG-13 as the one-nipple shots in this scene were non-gratuitous and brief./gets off soapbox
In an effort to console fans of True Blood's "Godric," played by 20 year-old Danish actor, Allan Hyde, HBO has released a series of downloadable photographs styled to appear as memorial cards, each with quotes from the 2000 year-old vampire adjacent to a True Blood scene in which Godric appeared.
Really hard to know if these were planned prior to the huge fan response to Godric but it is probably a moot point as fans just love this kind of stuff. (I outta know!)
You can download them as a zip file, presumably to make it easier to share with fellow Godric-loving Trubies.
Here is the page link on the HBO site for the 7 Godric memorial cards.

One question. Why did they Photoshop Eric's bloody tears out? Or were they Photoshopped in for the episode?

All the actors involved, Anna Paquin, Allan Hyde, Alexander Skarsgård--stellar work done by all.

I know this sounds kind of gross but especially after reviewing the scene where Sookie reluctantly (to put it mildly) sucked the silver bullets from Eric's neck and chest and hearing and seeing that she looked as if she would vomit--why didn't she? Especially after she learned that Eric would now have the power to know her feelings and whereabouts at all times. She could have definitely stepped away, taken a good look at say, Luke's severed hand and then quite easily vomited up everything in her stomach--including Eric's blood. No one digests within a couple minutes--it all would have come back. Then a good rinse with salt water and voila!--Sookie gets the last laugh.
I know, I know, then we couldn't go into our Season 3 angsty love triangle between Sookie and Bill and Eric but SPOILER!!! (after the screen caps).
Download this gallery as a zip-archive
There is a time that Sookie is severely injured with no Bill to donate his blood--just Eric and that could have been the jumping off point for Eric's hold on her.
This way, though very amusing in Eric's manipulation of Sookie, she was sort of made to seem like a dummy--which she certainly is not. Anyway, who am I to tell the writers what to write? It was a great episode just the same. The Godric suicide scene is now one of my all-time faves in the series. I've watch the entire episode twice and both times wept as soon as Eric broke down and right straight through Godric's death.
I love this clever Dexter promo. The choice of Queen's "Under Pressure" is perfect and the rest of the promo is very much in the same tone as the show itself. I'm am so excited that Dex will be back soon. Fortunately, I've had True Blood sort of filling the yawning gap while Dexter is "between seasons." The shows are of the same high quality, IMO. Though very different, they are the same too in the copious amounts of blood that keep spilling. Dexter is usually pretty tidy in his clean-up, unlike the vamps in True Blood. This isn't a promo for the shows but I really think if you dig one there is a good chance of liking the other as well. Darkly funny, well written, excellent cast and direction--both Dexter and True Blood share these qualities.

It's Weeds' tradition to end their season with a "bang." Shane has already been shot--so odds are he, at least is safe.
Frankly, I would like to see Nancy become a widow for the third time as getting involved with Esteban has only brought a world of trouble to her already troubled world.
I'm glad Andy is going along for the ride to try and locate the arrested or abducted Esteban. I just hope Andy doesn't end up with much of Nancy's mess to clean up or worse, be a part of that mess.
FOR AIRDATE AUGUST 23RD 2009: (Episode 2x10) Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann. Bill discovers that traditional vampire techniques do not work on Maryann; Hoyt and Jessica try to keep a lid on Maxines (Hoyt's mother) madness; Sookie tries to push through the darkness consuming Tara. With all hell breaking loose, Jason takes the bull by the horns to rescue Sam, at least for the moment.
True Blood preview/promos are notorious for attempting to mislead the
sequence of events depicted, as well as by showing only one character,
often in close-up, who the scene truly involves. Often it is a surprise
when viewing the episode to find what seemed to be in the preview was
not at all.
With this in mind I'm going to play "match up the screen caps" in an
attempt to piece together what really may be happening in the glimpses
of S2xE10 - "New World in My View."
OK. That was too easy--but they usually start with the easy stuff,
then accelerate to out-of-sequence/mismatched scenes that pass in a
flash.
This is Jessica appearing to be about to fang Maxine Fortenberry.
Certainly Hoyt's mom asked for it, but ew.
This would seem to be Hoyt reacting to Jessica, saying, "No!" Or, perhaps he's cheering her on.
So, was Hoyt on the floor and he's now getting up, moving toward
Jessica and Maxine? It would appear so. Did Jess fling Hoyt across the
room like Bill did to Jessica when he caught her macking on Hoyt?
Sorry, this scene moved really fast. That is for sure Maryann--her
cuff is shown in later scenes--in Sookie's home with her hand clutched
on Sookie's throat.
I'm wondering if there is any power in Eric's blood that will help Sookie out of this jam?
And does Bill step in now--or is he already there?
Bill and Maryann. It seems he's trying to glamour her and she's playing with him.
So is this Maryann bidding Bill and Sookie goodbye as they retreat from Maryann's lair (Sookie's house)?
This is Lafayette reacting to someone very tall. Has to be either Eggs or more likely, the fellow below:
I have no context whatsoever of what Eric is up to in this shot. The
tears seem incongruous for him in any other setting other than when
Godric committed suicide. I just cannot fathom Eric in his right mind shedding tears again for a very long time.
My guess is one of two things is happening here: Maryann has put a whammy on him *SPOILER* like in the book.
Or, this is a dream of Sookie's where her witnessing Eric sob at the
feet of his maker Godric prior to Godric's suicide and the effects of
her (accidentally) drinking Eric's blood are coming into play.
One more then the full set (about 40 promo stills) will be after the jump.
Sookie talking to Bill, telling him he needs to help stop Maryann. Is it after Maryann tried to throttle Sookie? My guess: yes.
There is dialogue for this scene on the promo in which Bill tells Sookie that she is SOL. He is powerless to stop Maryann.

Bill Walks In On Sookie & Eric (True Blood) (2 x 09 - I Will Rise Up)
Actress Kristin Bauer (True Blood's "Pam") got married on August 1st in a beautiful, rustic setting that couldn't have been any more un-Hollywood. The lucky groom is South African musician Abri van Straten.
Kristin looked gorgeous as usual though in a decidedly natural, human way. The wedding took place on her family's farm in Wisconsin.
“I downloaded a CD on iTunes, fell in love with his classical guitar and his voice, tracked him down and am now marrying him,” Kristin told fan site True-Blood.net. Many more breathtaking photographs here.

What I love most about screen caps is probably what you love, too--the catching of a "moment in time" detail that you just cannot get with the naked eye without literally taking the show apart scene-by-scene.
Some of the detail I missed watching "Timebomb" twice includes the very last caps here of human 'timebomb' Luke's vest. In the screen caps you can clearly see the silver bullets and the wood bullets interwoven with his heavy silver chains and of course, the bomb. You also get a very clear idea of where in the room some of the key players are when the bomb goes off. For one, Sookie and Eric are clear on the other side of the room, side by side. It looks like Sookie is sitting and there are many people/vampires and a lot of furniture between her and the bomb.
Unfortunately, both Isabel who seems like the nicest vampire ever, and Godric are quite close to Luke and worse, Jason is standing right beside him. The word on the episode is that both Jason and Sookie are well enough to return to Bon Temps and "bond" so fragile human beings that they are, they still manage to survive the blast. It should be interesting to find out how Jason does this because it looks impossible.
Things are looking especially bad for Stan as the screen caps clearly show him getting to his feet and moving towards Luke and there is not word of him surviving.
It appears that Eric takes a silver bullet though I'm unclear if it is a result of Luke going *boom* or if there are Soldiers of the Sun ready to storm the building when Luke finishes his mission of death.
Bill is still outside and Lorena has been sent off so it is clear that they will live to see another day.
Godric too, survives this incident but from what the less discrete reviewers who have seen future episodes have said he doesn't survive the season.
The book people--and though I've read every one I keep this show and the books separate--insist that Godric wants to die as the "Godfrey" character did in the Sookie Stackhouse series. That character was not Eric's maker however though he was thousands of years old.
Whatever happens it will be entertaining and may put your head into a spin so strap in tightly for the rest of the ride.

Question: How about a hot and juicy True Blood scoop on Sookie and Eric?
Ausiello: Sookie will be planting her luscious lips all over Eric’s hard body in Sunday’s episode. Hot any juicy enough for you?
If I'm correct, I believe Eric needs to have a silver bullet removed from his body before his body heals as if it remains "in" his body it would slowly kill him. He enlists Sookies help in "sucking" the bullet out of his wound, allowing him to heal properly.

Finally, a quick FYI if you don't already know, Episode 2.12 of True Blood will now be called "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'"
The (500) Days of Summer soundtrack has been the the perfect antidote to the less-than-perfect summer weather that I and many other folks seem to be have been experiencing.
I've been listening to the soundtrack on my Blackberry and much of it is danceable, spirit-lifting, and fun.
The film is a
post-modern love story of
Tom, a greeting card copywriter(!) and hopeless romantic who is
blindsided after his girlfriend Summer dumps him. Tom takes us back, reminiscing through various stages of their 500 days together trying to puzzle out how things things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him
to rediscover his true passions in life.
The full track listing is below:
1.A Story of Boy Meets Girl - Mychael Danna and Rob Simonsen
2. Us - Regina Spektor
3. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths
4. Bad Kids - Black Lips
5. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths
6. There Goes The Fear - Doves
7. You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates
8. Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap
9. Quelqu'un M'a Dit - Carla Bruni
10. Mushaboom - Feist
11. Hero - Regina Spektor
12. Bookends - Simon & Garfunkel
13. Vagabond - Wolfmother
14. She's Got You High - Mumm-Ra
15. Here Comes Your Man - Meaghan Smith
16. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want - She & Him
(500) Days of Summer has been described as a "quasi-indie" movie and I suppose that's fair as the soundtrack is a good balance of well-known indie tunes sprinkled with some new(er) "hipster" tracks that I was anxious to hear. There are three songs that are either performed by the Smiths or in the case of Please, Please (Let Me Get What I Want) covered by "She and Him," a band fronted by Zooey Deschanel and M.Ward.
Deschanel sounds much like one would imagine she would--kind of sweet and definitely charming. She does a very credible job of the one tune she contributes to the (500) Days Of Summer Soundtrack.
I'm not really big into labels--I just know what I enjoy listening to and this soundtrack is packed with great tunes.
Some of my faves include the old, but aging incredibly well and terrifically suited to this film,“You Make My Dreams” by Hall & Oates’, First Lady of France Carla Bruni's, Quelqu'un M'a Dit, the timeless classic, Bookends, by Simon and Garfunkel, Here Comes Your Man by Meaghan Smith, Mushaboom by Feist and of course, the already-mentioned Smith's tunes.
This is a joyful, bright soundtrack that makes some tasty ear-candy.
It's getting ever more difficult for Jackie to pretend that all is well in her life. On the way to one of her trysts with Eddie she almost forgot to take off her wedding band until prompted by O'Hara who earlier had apologized for her gaff (in Jackie's over-reactionary opinion) and given Jackie a peace offering of magazines, candy and gum. Jackie and Coop also had a stand-off in regard to her signing off on a donor whilst he was "unavailable" to do so. He threatened to take her to the mat but with some confidence building from Dr. O'Hara, Jackie bullied Coop into one of his "Tourette's-like" moments--only this time she held his hand to her breast and kissed him all the while speaking encouragingly to him. Coop quickly put his problem with Jackie aside but has Jackie brought on more than she intended?
Still unable to remove her wedding band, Jackie convinced Dr. O'Hara to cut it off which led to Jackie having to come up with a story to tell spouse, Kevin. Not wanting to appear so careless as to lose it, she instead took a hammer to her own ring finger. Having gotten the ring off, Jackie engaged in her daily tryst with a self-medicating, about-to-be-fired Eddie, only to have Zoey walk in on them in flagrante. I thought this was an average episode of the show. Obviously we are setting the stage for something bigger to happen as there are many nasty secrets and lies that if came to light would land Jackie in a whole mess of trouble. Somehow Edie Falco manages to make a woman who,
on paper, seems pretty awful, quite compelling to watch.
Nurse Jackie: S1 E11 - PILL-O-MATIX
Kevin decides to buy Jackie a new wedding ring. At work, the automated pill machine replaces Eddie. A movie critic (played by Victor Garber) is admitted with a broken elbow. Zoey gives him the wrong dose of painkiller, resulting in a coma. Coop dumps his new girlfriend. The parents of the baby Akalitus has been taking care of come forward to resume custody. We learn that O’Hara’s mother has slid into a coma – she believes that her stepfather is responsible. Eddie follows Jackie home, and sees her with Kevin and the girls.

'She Likes Gum' - Newly infatuated, Coop asks Zoey about what Jackie likes.
'Same Machine. Half the Price.' The Pill-O-Matix is getting installed and Eddie is about to be out of a job.
(Left) Harry (James Remar) and Dexter's dead bio mom at Dexter's Wedding
Dexter and dad Harry (James Remar--who we saw very little of in Season 3)
are working much more in harmony this season. Says Remar, "This year
we're more companions than adversaries. Last year we were butting heads
a lot, and Dexter was very angry with me. At the end of last season, he
offered me his forgiveness because he knew he was going to be a dad.
This year we're having more of a grown-up relationship where he's an
adult, he's a man in his majority, he's a father, so we spend time
together in pursuit of bad people." However, since Dex is a bit busy
with a new baby, Harry is riding him about priorities: "Harry is
nagging at Dexter's purpose because he's trying to get off track this
year, and Harry wants him to go after the Trinity Killer. We've got our
work cut out for us." From Kristen
Last night's episode of True Blood was one of the best so far this season, possibly the best.
The highest point IMO, came within the first few seconds when Godric, having torn "Gabe" off of Sookie, whom he intended to rape, allowed Gabe one word of protest, "Godric," before snapping his neck like a pencil.
I must admit I exclaimed, "Play that again"--twice!
It was satisfying and strange to hear Eric called "my son."
I loved the exchange between Sookie and Eric when upon Godric's orders, Eric attempted to help Sookie escape. Excellent delivery with much meaning in just two short sentences, well played by Alexander Skarsgård. That scene can be re-watched in the official promo for E8.
It is fun too to watch the evil Lorena--or is she simply misunderstood? She's a bad kitty playing with the distraught Bill as if he were a ball of yarn. Despite apparently being driven off by Godric in this episode, from the promos for "I Will Rise Up," she's baaack! looking none the worse for wear.
Speaking of evil women, Sarah Newlin really got what was coming to her after she called Sookie a vampire (banger). Jason seems to go on autopilot when anyone insults or threatens harm to his sister so down Sarah went, though with only her pride hurt. I do wish that Sarah's smug, self satisfied spouse, Steve had gotten more than his pride hurt. To think that the two strongest vampires there each had him by the neck and didn't snap it--that was very much a letdown.
I realize that if he had died he couldn't have sent his human "Timebomb" over to Godric's nest but still...
From the snippet of Vamp Spokesperson Nan Flanagan's's harsh assessment of the vamps of Dallas it sounds as if they did not take too kindly to the Soldiers of God blowing up Godric's nest in the middle of their shindig.
Hard to tell because the promos can be so misleading but it seems they rip a few human's throats out. I just really hope one of them is Steve Newlin.
It seems from what I've read on the 'net that the interest in the Maryann/Tara n' Eggs/Sam storyline is flagging. It really cannot compete with the big vamp opera playing out but I do enjoy Sam Trammell's (Sam Merlotte) work as well as Michelle Forbes (Maryann).
It looks like Lafayette is going to get a bit more screen time in the next episode--looking forward to that and curious, since it is featured in the promo, if Lafayette has retained any of the boost in energy that drinking Eric's blood gave him. In the snippet from the promo where Eggs is beating on Tara (or it may be mutual) Lafayette is almost in the middle--so I'd like to see if he steps up.
All in all, Season 2 seems to have found it's footing after perhaps leaning a bit too heavily on the orgy stuff. I think that grossed out a few viewers though it seemed relevant to the storyline to me. It would have seemed kind of rushed to have Maryann simply waltz in and take over their minds. It seems in the next episode momentarily anyway, that Sheriff Bud Dearborne gets them wrangled and under control in the jail cells adjacent to a very distraught Sam. Fun times.

PW: So anyone who thought they'd seen the peak of Maryann's chaos is dead wrong?
Rutina: Oh, you've only seen the beginning. It's going to get so much more chaotic. The end of this season is amazing: it's fire, it's sad, it's got so much jam-packed in there -- you guys won't know what hit you!
PW: And does it start with Sunday's episode?
Rutina: Yes, that's when it all starts to go bad. It gets violent, it gets insane. I mean, you saw Tara slapping her mother, which should tell you how far it goes! I mean, there are no limits for Maryann! She keeps going and going and going -- we're all under her spell. That leads into episode 10, which is the one I really can't wait to see! Things get really intense for Tara!

With an episode as memorable as "TimeBomb" I tend to have a general set of first impressions then as a day or so passes, the scenes that I recall most often tend to be a bit deeper than those first recalled.
(The link goes to the blog from which this one sprang. There is just so much media surrounding True Blood that the show I realized, warranted it's own website. I didn't want to discontinue writing about True Blood on my original fanblog so the blogs share media sometimes but the text is 90% different.)
Deborah Ann Woll as Jessica and Jim Parrack as Hoyt Fortenberry were both as charming as ever in Episode 8 but you all just knew that showrunner Alan Ball wasn't going to let the sweetness and light go on for very long and so we have a little barrier, namely Jessica's hymen, in the way of their true love. It was a forehead-smacking moment when I realized "Of course!" in regard to Jessica "healing" each time she's deflowered. Very few children are made vampire and Jessica having been only 17 and very sheltered was not much more than a child when Bill was ordered to turn her. I'm guessing since Bill is so wrapped up in all things Sookie that he never gave a moment's thought to Jess and a potential dilemma.
I doubt that there is any true workaround for Jessica's eternal virginity other than perhaps working out a deal with Hoyt that every time he inflicts the pain of her virginity loss on her that at that moment she sink her fangs into him. It probably would make the experience better for both of them, assuming that they like their lovemaking a little rough--and she's a vamp--is there any other way? Failing that, I suggest lots and lots of oral sex and mutual pleasuring. I doubt that it will be remotely simple however as nothing on this show is except perhaps for Jason Stackhouse.
Jackie admits a patient she has treated before. As his condition worsens, Zoey questions whether Jackie did enough to help him on his previous visit. Jackie’s drug use starts to cause spontaneous nose bleeds. O’Hara tells Jackie that her sister, who lives in Paris, has benefited from Jackie’s ability to juggle a job, family and affair at the same time. Jackie feels betrayed that O’Hara broke her confidence. A car accident victim is pronounced brain-dead, and rather than wait for Coop to certify legal brain death for organ donation, Jackie lies and says Coop signed off.

This week was the first that I started to feel sorry for Jackie. Despite her snappy comebacks, her instantaneous recovery from what would leave many of us flummoxed, and her appearance to others that she "has it all"--she really doesn't. As she said to Dr. O'Hara when O'Hara was innocently mentioning having praised Jackie to her sister in France at how seamlessly Jackie seems to manage her life, Jackie shook her head, quietly saying, "It's hard."
And, it is getting harder. Jackie's pill snorting is causing her to be sloppy in her nursing work, to be jumpy and snappish and over-reactive--all things that the people closest to her can see and are beginning to have concerns about. Jackie herself does not seem to indulge in taking the time to have a good look at her life. If she did she might see what a mess it truly is. Speed habit and nosebleeds aside, making ever larger mistakes and poor decisions at work aside, turning on her best friend O'Hara for a ludicrous reason, which of course wasn't the real thing Jackie was reacting to but still ended with a gulf that Jackie has created. Putting all this stuff away for a moment, Jackie is supposedly happily married. He seems like a great guy, great father to their two daughters so WTH is she doing having quickies with the hospital pharmacist?!? Of every self-destructive thing Jackie does this has to be the most potentially lethal.
Everything else makes sense when you look at her painkiller addiction. Maybe she is a sex addict as well? That's the best I can come up with. Of course, if Nurse Jackie were simply a story of a messed-up nurse it wouldn't have many viewers. I'm quite sure Edie Falco and Co., the snappy dialogue, the tight directing--the whole package pulls the viewer in. Despite her very large flaws, Jackie is a character that you can care about. I've no idea how her story will run it's course but I do really enjoy the thirty minutes I spend watching it each week. Just a few more episodes of season one left!
Wasn't Even There Coop starts to ask questions about an organ donation Jackie approved without certification of brain-death.
She Has Taste Still angry with Dr. O'Hara, Jackie commiserates with Mo-Mo about the rudeness of doctors.
RING FINGERJackie and Grace begin mother-daughter tap class. Coop threatens to expose Jackie for falsifying a donor’s record. Jackie has forgotten to remove her wedding ring, and needs to get it off before meeting Eddie for a quickie. She can’t get the ring off and asks O’Hara to saw it off. To distract Coop from hassling her about the donor, Jackie baits him into grabbing her breast -- and rather than admonish him, she kisses him.Written By: Liz Brixius Directed By: Paul Feig
Just when Weeds or at least the namesake of the show, Nancy (look up "weeds" if you are puzzled) was annoying me greatly, we get an Episode 9.
I do love Mary Louise Parker but the stuff they write for her and the plot just meandering all over drives me nuts sometimes.
I have to assume that Weeds S5x E10 - 'Perro Insano' which airs this weekend, will have to have taken on a more focused direction, given how the last episode ended. There is a huge spoiler regarding the cliffhanger ending of last week's episode 9 if you click through the link "Jazz Muppet," fea. Andy (Justin Kirk) and Audra (Alanis Morisette).

Yay! HBO just released a new sneak peek of Sunday's episode of True Blood, and our favorite Viking vampire, Eric Northman is getting cranky. Press play above to see what he and Isabel have in store for the Fellowship of the Sun.
The Eric-Sookie sneak peek carries a lot of power in just a couple of sentences. Totally chill-worthy.
The second sneak peek features Sam, Sheriff Bud Dearborne, and police officer Kenya (sorry, cannot find her last name). There is more exposition here and the long and short of it is that Sam is in a heap of trouble. Guess who set him up for Daphne's murder?

I need to catch up on Weeds as I'm in Canada without teevee cable and to be honest, Nancy ticked me off so much by "enjoying" getting raped while pregnant (she frames it as "rough sex") that she is very unappealing. Justin Kirk as "Uncle Andy Botwin" keeps the show rolling because Kohan and Co. have pretty much destroyed any semblance of character that Nancy long ago may have had.

in the F.O.T.S. church, Sookie uses her telepathic powers to reach out
to Bill, who’s being detained at the hotel by a stubbornly obsessive
Lorena. After crossing a line with the Newlins, a fearful Jason tries
to sever his ties with the Fellowship of the Sun, but gets plenty of resistance from Steve and his enforcer, Gabe.
If you watch the HBO preview you'll catch a number of spoilers that have been floating around for a while.
Nice screen shot. I like Anna's hair so much more as shown here. TPTB should allow her to be bewigged and or have extensions in Season III. At the recent Comic-Con in San Diego her hair looked a mess and she said it was "breaking off and getting shorter because (she as Sookie is) a fake, fake, fake blond." Poor girl. Seriously, I'd rather see her in a good wig and off-screen get healthy hair back again.

It's seems that Steve Newlin may be having neck problems...and Eric is sporting some nice chains-of-silver burns.
Episode 2x08 - Timebomb
Sookie’s captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives to do
his master’s bidding on the eve of the Fellowship’s lockdown. In Bon
Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery
at Merlotte’s, and Andy proves no help in coming to his defense. Sent
home by Bill, Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every
time is the first time. Tara and Eggs devour a mysterious meal prepared

Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his
more single-minded followers.
True Blood - Season 2 New Spoilers Q: Got any True Blood goodies about my beloved Alexander Skarsgård?
A: Alexander Skarsgård waxing poetic on his character Eric is a goodie,
then, yes, my friend, we have more True Blood goodies: "Eric was kind
of misunderstood. A lot of people would come up to me and say, 'Oh,
you're the evil...the bad guy.' I always had to defend him because
there's more to him than that," says Alexander. "I actually got a
chance to show that [this season]. I mean, he is a badass, of course,
but I'm just happy because as an actor, you shouldn't play the same
note for two years. You have to show different layers and go deeper and
show that there's more to the character than that. And I've had fun
this season because I have been able to show that he does have a
sensitive side, a loyal side. He doesn't care for a lot of people, and
not for a lot of vampires either, but the ones he cares about he's
very, very, very loyal and devoted to."
Q: I haven't read the Sookie Stackhouse novels. How close is the Sookie in the books to the Sookie on True Blood?
Anna
Paquin, who plays Sookie on True Blood, says they are one in the same.
"I read the books rabidly," she says. "I felt that the Sookie that was
on the page and the script was very much like the Sookie in the books."
News on True Blood?

Check out the awesome trailer for an early look at the rest of
the season!
2) Next week on True Blood, when poor dead zombie(?!?) Daphne's
(Ashley Jones) body is discovered, people start to suspect that Sam
(Sam Trammell) killed her. ..Also,
Sookie and Eric grow closer over the next few episodes, after..the
Viking vamp is injured and needs her help.

"Just relax...this will all be over soon."
It may sound familiar but these words have never been uttered by Dexter Morgan in anything remotely like this horrifying scene.
Q: Is Dexter's baby going to have the Dark Passenger inside of him as well? A: As shown in the Season 4 promo, Dexter is open to talking to his boy Harrison about
his little secret, but as far as little Harry being a future serial
killer, Michael C. Hall says, "He's yet to show any demonstrable signs
to show that he wants to kill." Whew, because his dad being a serial
killer is enough for one family!
Q:What about Dexter's new stepkids?
A: Rita's
kids are definitely growing up this season, but Astor (Christina
Robinson) is headed into tween territory, and it's not pretty. "Astor
has a little bit more attitude, and she isn't quite as happy just to be
a kid. She's flexing her young-woman muscles, and it perplexes Dexter,"
showrunner Sara Colleton says.
Dex is finally going to get to play
dad, too, when little Astor falls for the local heartthrob. "There's a very
hip, cool, older kid in the neighborhood whom she develops a very big
crush on." And Cody (Preston Bailey) is still blissfully innocent, with
"a swimming pool next door and all the food that he can eat. He
literally says, 'I want to be just like Dexter.' "
FOR AIRDATE AUGUST 9TH 2009: (Episode 2x08) Sookie's captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives at the behest of his sire Godric's, orders. In Bon Temps, Sam finds himself in deep trouble after making a gruesome discovery at Merlottes.
Sent home by Bill, Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every time is the first time. Tara and Eggs physical (they fight) after partaking in a "Hunter" (heart) soufflé prepared by Maryann. After Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his more single-minded followers.
I'm still on holiday with my family though I'm still in a pretty wicked not-on-their sleep schedule, schedule. Last night it was me staying up until the dawn's early light, fearful that our internet provider would shut down the juice because I had to have, freaking have True Blood.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. supposedly I won't have another nasty realization that I'm on about a quarter dial-up speed instead of broadband.
I was glad to hear as well the source material's author announce that she's signed on for three more Sookie books with the latest, her 9th, released in May, 2009. Have read all the Sookie Stackhouse books. Many were great fun.
Alan Ball has amped up the "wicked" on True Blood but he's faithful the spirit of the books, especially to the characters.
The True Blood panel at the San Diego Comic-Con unofficially spilled the beans that the series would be renewed for a third season.
It is now official after an announcement on Thursday in which HBO included True Blood in a list of three series it would pick up for another year.
“The size of these shows have broken into the popular culture in a way we haven’t seen in a while,” said HBO co-president Richard Plepler.
"Episode 2x07 - Release Me Betrayed by Daphne, Sam finds himself in an unenviable predicament
at the hands of Maryann and her wild-eyed minions. Imprisoned with Hugo
in the F.O.T.S. church, Sookie uses her telepathic powers to reach out
to Bill, who’s being detained at the hotel by a stubbornly obsessive
Lorena. After crossing a line with the Newlins, a fearful Jason tries
to sever his ties with the Fellowship of the Sun, but gets plenty of
resistance from Steve and his enforcer Gabe.
If you watch the HBO preview you'll catch a number of spoilers that have been floating around for a while.
Nice screen shot. I like Anna's hair so much more as shown here. TPTB should allow her to be bewigged and or have extensions in Season III. At the recent Comic-Con i San Diego her hair looked a mess and she said it was "breaking off and getting shorter because (she as Sookie is) a fake, fake, fake blond." Poor girl. Seriously, I'd rather see her in a good wig and off-screen get healthy hair back again.
Below -
Eric tells Sookie he has a plan.
The Plan? "Take me instead of Godric."
It's seems that Steve Newlin may be having neck problems...and Eric is sporting some nice chains-of-silver burns.
Episode 2x08 - Timebomb Sookie’s captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives to do
his master’s bidding on the eve of the Fellowship’s lockdown. In Bon
Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery
at Merlotte’s, and Andy proves no help in coming to his defense. Sent
home by Bill, Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every
time is the first time. Tara and Eggs devour a mysterious meal prepared
by Maryann, with unexpected results (Tara and Eggs get physical). After
Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his
more single-minded followers.
True Blood - Season 2 New Spoilers Q: Got any True Blood goodies about my beloved Alexander Skarsgård?
A: f
Alexander Skarsgård waxing poetic on his character Eric is a goodie,
then, yes, my friend, we have more True Blood goodies: "Eric was kind
of misunderstood.

Woo-hoo! Eddie Olmos is a smooth interviewer (and operator)! He literally snagged the mic from the San Diego interviewer and conducted a kick butt spontaneous interview with Brendan and Bear McCreary and the lovely and honey-voiced Raya Yarbrough.
Thanks to Bear's Battlestar Blog!
Bill Compton's Maker, Lorena, after hearing Bill make love to Sookie, later daydreams of a bloody good time she had with a very willing Bill back in the roaring 1920's. Despite Bill's proclamation (to Sookie) otherwise, it seems that Vampire Bill has killed many more people than he cares to admit and he did so--at least during his "Lorena period," with gusto. No one is perfect I suppose, huh?

It's official! The Tru Blood drink has now been 'de-fictionalized' and emerges into reality as a delicious blood orange carbonated drink.
* Meticulously crafted, the Tru Blood Drink is an exact replica of the bottle design as seen on True Blood. The 14oz glass Tru Blood bottle is stained in a rich red, with raised Tru Blood English lettering and matching Japanese Kanji.
* This blood orange flavored soda is slightly tart, lightly sweet and subtly carbonated. Designed to taste great while matching the appearance of Bill’s favorite drink, the drink pours like a regular soda, but with the standing appearance in a glass is stormy and mysterious.
