Whether he's getting his toe bitten off by a very mad dog, subtly hitting on his former sister-in-law Nancy, or scheming with Doug about their next great plan, he never fails to entertain. Here he explains to Nancy that  he and she are "nothing more than cat toys" to the Mexican Mafia "who are cats, Mexican cats--gatos."

 

Esteban takes Nancy to a doctor to see if she's pregnant with his child.

As Andy delicately put it, Nancy "finked" on drug lord Esteban after she realized that he was responsible for teenage girls being shuttled through an underground drug tunnel, across the US border to work as prostitutes--for Esteban's gain. Will her conscience be her undoing?

It's not what Nurse Jackie says to "Coop" that resonates as much as how Edie Falco plays her and thus it's the unique-to-Edie style of delivery that really makes this scene pop. "What you need to know is that I know you. I've seen hundreds of jerk-offs like you blow through these doors..."

 

   

Jackie sends Zoey home after a long day at the hospital only to realize she's been overworking herself after nearly killing a patient.

We see completely different sides to Nurse Jackie here than in the "Coop" scene. Quite awesome I think that in the space of less than 30 minutes the character of Nurse Jackie is already so rich with potential that the viewer is hooked. She's almost like heroin. In a good way. Student nurse Zoey is also given a chance to show a side of herself that we would not have expected to be there based on her behaviour throughout episode one, but there it is. Another character to expect the unexpected from.

-There are three orgies, all of them powered by maenad Maryann’s (Michelle Forbes) aphrodisiac fairy dust. 

- Alexander Skarsgard’s Nordic vampire sherrif has an "extremely homoerotic encounter" with a character who shall remain nameless. EDIT/Well, we can at least we can rules out all the girls. 

- In related news, there are about two dozen gratuitous shirtless shots in the first four episodes, all of them belonging to either Mechad Brooks (Tara’s new BF, Eggs) or Ryan Kwanten (Jason). EDIT/ and boy, those two guys are buff! 

- Sookie has a very revealing conversation with a new character in episode 4. 

- If you’re wondering what secret Merlotte’s newest waitress (played by Ashley Jones) is harboring, a clue can be found on her skin.

Gawker and BloodCopy - A Marriage Made in Advertising Heaven or Hell?

"The blogging empire is temporarily welcoming a new site into its fold that’s written and paid for by HBO to promote the network’s noir vampire drama, True Blood. And the word “advertisement” won’t appear anywhere in the project’s vicinity."

I'm gonna say it. 

Wowsa.

I've been blogging in the "sponsored post" arena since November 2007, and there has not been one minute that it has not been controversial. Initially and I was late to the party by at least 18 months, all sponsored posting was baaaad. Only bad people with bad intentions did paid blogging without the blog post itself screaming "I'm an advert!!! She's getting money to write this!"

I admit I had not thought through what the ethical implications were to writing short blog posts which pushed products. I didn't think it was doing any harm as I talked about what I thought of the product or simply talked about the product in the days where I was assigned work that if I turned it down I would get no further work.

That company literally did not care what I wrote. They simply wanted me to insert a link. So for example, if I had to write about a diet supplement I would talk of the dangers of dieting and if you ever did use a product like "X" do so only under your doctor's care.

Frankly, I was glad when that company told me to choose them or another another company to work for.  The other other company told me to work for whomever I pleased. Guess who I chose?  At the same time, in fact years before, Google was getting very agitated because companies that had bloggers share their opinions about products got free "Google" juice when a "do follow" link was used in the post. That means, to make it very simple, that the company pushing a product was in direct competition with Google's Adsense when it came to search engine results that Internet users would get.

Huge no-no in the land of GOOG. Again, I totally had no idea that what I was doing was in violation of Google search engine rules. They stripped me of PageRank which is a metric which is considered to be a short-hand way of telling the world what your blog is worth.

Since 11/2007, I've made over $4000 doing paid blogging some with "do follow" links and here now only with "nofollow" links. There are no ads on this blog that violate Google's policy. I only very occasionally write adverts here and all of them have a big honking in-post badge saying I got paid, along with the non-Google juice producing nofollow links. I might add that I'm offered many posts per pay for decent money but the advertisers do not want me to disclose that I'm writing an advert. So I never write them. For one, I'm acutely aware that I'm being used (for my Page Rank! I feel so dirty!). They want to take advantage of my PageRank so they get sweeter link juice--for about a week--because that's when Google will strip me of my PageRank and if I have anything to say about that, it's not going to happen. I know better now.

If you read an ad on this blog you'll know it's an ad. And this is important, too: I hand-pick all my ads. As I said, I turn down money each day--and that's really painful, believe me. But I'm preserving my PageRank and my integrity.That's the other part of Gawker's experiment (their wording) that I find intriguing. Will they too lose PageRank? One would think that the Blood Copy ads will be in violation of Google's rules. I know I'm staying tuned in order to see what happens when one of the big guys does what the little guys got crushed for.

 

Lastly, Gawker is utilizing paid blogging to advertise one of my favourite shows. I have to be honest. I'm excited about this. I'm interested to see how it plays out, yes and I'm curious to hear what kind of reception the advertising gets from various fronts but most importantly from the consumer because friends, despite being told as we grew up that the Hokey-Pokey was what "it" is all about, that is simply not true. In this great land of consumers what it is all about is selling stuff, the more stuff the better. The ways of selling are changing at a dizzying rate. With newspapers, magazines, and television losing ground in the advertising wars, those that want to sell stuff need to be willing to experiment with a variety of venues. That's what it's all about, folks.

From: Gawker VP says sponsored posts will bring in majority of revenue one day

Entries from the blog, BloodCopy, will appear as cross-posts in the mix of Gawker Media’s eight verticals, which include Gizmodo, Kotaku, and the flagship. They’ll be set off by a border and labeled as BloodCopy posts but otherwise indistinguishable from editorial content — except that the blog is written by an undead, bloodsucking ghoul.

“With vampires, we thought we could be a little looser with the disclosure and create some disbelief,” Chris Batty, Gawker’s vice president of sales and marketing, told me yesterday, dismissing critics of the advertorial as “humorless.” He also made a bold prediction that surprised me so much I made sure to confirm I’d heard correctly:

 “If we’re around in three or four years,” Batty said, “the majority of our advertising revenue will be in sponsored posts like this.”

       

DEXTER SPOILERS! Season 4 - Family Man and Serial Killer Dexter Finds NEW Frenemy

Dexter - Season 4 Major Casting Scoop and Spoilers 

I was combing the 'nets just last night this morning searching for a scrap of intel about what's shakin' over at Showtime's Dexter. I'm happy to say though I went to sleep without what I sought, it was right here courtesy of The ODI, when I awoke. 

 "Dexter" has found his next Big Bad. Sources confirm to me exclusively that John Lithgow is joining the season 4 cast as Walter Simmons, an unassuming suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America’s most prolific and deadliest serial killers. When the mad man (who is dubbed the "Trinity Killer" because he always kills in threes) relocates to Miami, Dexter becomes obsessed (or inspired?) by his efficient killing methods and ability to evade capture for almost three decades. (This is the new antagonist role exec producer Sara Colleton teased back in April.) Dexter's fourth season premieres on Sept. 27. Oh, almost forgot, bonus casting scoop: Keith Carradine is reprising his role as Deb's daddy figure ex, F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy for multiple episodes.

Like the third season of "Dexter," the fourth will feature a long-term guest star, only instead of Jimmy Smits playing an assistant district attorney, John Lithgow will portray a character planted decidedly on the other side of the law.

According to Showtime's press release, "Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America’s most prolific and deadliest serial killers. Dubbed the 'Trinity Killer' because of his proclivity to kill in threes, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). Brought on to assist in the investigation of Miami’s latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes fascinated with Trinity’s killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades."

Lithgow will be featured in all 12 episodes of Season 4, which is scheduled to premiere Sunday, Sept. 27, on Showtime.

While Lithgow has acted in as much drama as he has comedy, here's hoping that he's allowed to utilize a bit of his comic experience on "Dexter," which tends to be at its best when it employs gallows humor.

NEW May 23 Release Scenes - Blame the crude capping on me. I did my best. Love the scene with a very injured Sookie and Bill. Need wallpaper! The scenes with Eric with a cross burnt into his cheek and something really funky going on with what looks like tinfoil in his hair? Ick. The scene where Bills discovered Jessica vamping it up with Boyd(?) in Bill's parlor ticks him off enough that he picks her up and throws her. The flying stills show the work of the stuntwoman of course. They are still pretty fun to look at as well as how Stephen Moyer acts out throwing her. Bad, Bad Jessica. I wonder if that happens before or after she beats up on her Dad. Hey! I just found out that I know someone that went to school with Stephen Moyer! She says he was a big flirt! Also, "Moyer" is not his given name. Make sure to click the thumb to embiggen it!
lo My favourite cap is below. In it's context, I'll bet it plays as an excellent scene 'cos the still is great and the others are indicative of that. The way the two guys are looking at Sookie is priceless.

Behind the Scenes Season 5 Expect the unexpected on the new season of Weeds. New episodes Monday at 10PM ET/PT beginning June 8th. As Kevin Nealon, who plays Nancy's former account Doug Wilson says of the show, "Each year it seems we're just spiraling further and further into that black hole that eventually, I don't know how we're ever going ot get out of." As much as I enjoy the show I was deeply shocked that it was renewed for a 5th season. Like Nealon, I wonder where can the show possibly go. They've painted Nancy and Co. so far into a corner that it seems that they would have to really stretch plausibility ( like that has stopped them before) to have her resume any kind of normal life. Guess we'll just tune and and see.

I hope I can get my spouse to watch this as "Twilight" has really put a damper on his enthusiasm. He's never seen True Blood but unlike Twilight it's very much an adult drama. All the vamps drink blood of one kind or the other. They don't sparkle in the sunlight. It's a completely different story altogether. I think it's a marketing mistake to tag this "Twilight." Twilight has nothng to do with the world of True Blood and visa versa.

I've read in a couple of places people expressing their dislike of Eric's Season 2 haircut. The screen clip that I'm showing here I believe tells you "why" his hair is short. He's in a fight with a supernatrual being and though vampires are not supposed to lose or regain hair, I think maybe in this particular instance that Eric loses his mane and probably some scalp before the fight is over. What comes after? I know as much as you do because this is newly written stuff, but I'm guessing that Eric is "forced" to chose a short haircut as what has been ripped from his scalp by a supe cannot be regrown./EDIT this was probably one of my worse guesses ever! Eric had foils in his hair as Pam was giving him makeover. LOL

The excitement is reaching a fever pitch as the countdown to the second season premiere of HBO's True Blood on June 14, 2009, is now less than one month away. The wait has been excruciating, but by all accounts it will be worth it. For my part, having read the Sookie Stackhouse novels, I have to say I enjoyed book II, "Living Dead In Dallas" more than I did the first book, which I really liked. Regardless of the disclaimer made by showrunner Alan Ball that his vision of True Blood is distinctly different than that of the Sookie books by Charlaine Harris (and I'm not disputing his assertion) ;),I can see from the bits and pieces of the promos that there is quite a bit of overlap, too. Weeds: YES We Cannabis! Alanis Joins Cast, Gets Naked

"Weeds" confirms that Jagged Little Pill actor-singer-songwriter, Alanis Morissette has been cast as pregnant Nancy's (Mary Louise Parker) trusted baby doc, Audra Kitson. Morissette will appear in a minimum of seven episodes during the upcoming fifth season (debuting June 8), and could return next season as well.

Hey, this qualifies as ironic: I'm told the obstetrician role may require Morissette to engage in "some tasteful nudity." No, Nancy won't be turning the tables on her lady doc; sources confirm that all Morissette's character really wants is Justin Kirk's Andy.

After snapping at Tara (Rutina Wesley) and new employee Daphne (Ashley Jones), Sam decides to cut and run. A bored Jessica heads over to Merlotte’s, where a smitten Hoyt (Jim Parrack) falls under her spell. At another Maryann-hosted party, Tara finds her attraction to Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) interrupted by a swirling, aphrodisiac fog.

Before the new season of True Blood kicks off, viewers will have a chance to catch up on season one. HBO2 will present three episodes per night back-to-back at 8:00 p.m., June 4-6, while HBO will present the first season’s final three episodes back-to-back at 8:00 p.m. on June 7.

The Blu-Ray narration by  Lafayette (Nelson Ellis) is very clever. 

POSSIBLE SPOILER

I thought most everyone knew why Lafayette had to die as in the Sookie Stackhouse book which inspired this series--but reading a review or two saw that no, people are holding out hope. LaFayette was fleshed out in the television role--but was not Tara's cousin and had a much more minor role in the book.

If Season 2 is only loosely based on the second book, "Living Dead in Dallas," Sookie goes out of town and Merlotte's sort of takes a step back for that part of the book. I think you may have heard sometime during Season 1, Sookie remarking on how many cooks Merlotte's usually goes through. It gives it a kind of charm and in at least one Sookie Stackhouse novel it's crucial to the story.

The scene that is playing out In the soon-to-be released Blu-Ray disc while Nelsan Ellis narrates is, of course from the first episode Of "True Blood", S1E1, when Sookie in the parking lot of Merlotte's the bar in which she works, saves Vampire Bill from "V" addicts (sort of the caliber of crack addicts)/sellers who have him hog tied in silver chains (which burn his flesh) and are draining him. I know. Ick. Sookie kicks ass but she's up again 2 so eventually she falters. Bill takes cares of her and then Season One goes from there. Great show. Cannot wait for it to start!

Here's some more info on the Bluray coming out:"HBO just sent over the following clip from the upcoming second season of True Blood which was recently shown at the Paley Festival. Season two of True Blood debuts on HBO on June 14th and season 1 of the series will be released on DVD/Blu-ray on May 19th. The soundtrack will also be released on May 19th."

Matthew Fox appeared on Kimmel's show last night wearing a sling. Kimmel urged the "Lost" star to tell the audience how he hurt himself, then rolled the following video as a form of explanation. Turns out the men had gotten themselves into a staring contest after they both reached for the same cup of coffee reserved for "gorgeous man." The contest continued through meals, showers, and rooftop singing before Kimmel cheated, using his sidekick Guillermo to take Fox out of the contest.

Totally made me want to see the show.

The BBC One trailer for Ashes to Ashes Season Two launched in April 2009 in the UK and the show is currently airing in the UK --but not here. Season Two of Ashes to Ashes was abruptly and rather rudely pulled from the BBC America schedule so a 3-year sci-fi show could air. More info below. Be sure to watch the cool Promo for Season 2 of Ashes To Ashes, now in 1982. I capped it and some of them are sort of neat. Both Chris and Shaz look really cute. And Alex has lost that horrible perm! Read the synopsis for Eppy 1. It sounds great! Will be seeing it soon. Glad I have friends in the UK.

If BBC America thinks I'm going to sit around and wait for them to figure out that treating the audience like this is bad business they are mistaken. I can view Ashes to Ashes but they'll not make any revenue. I'm that annoyed. And of course I'll watch again on a bigger screen--when they air it. If they do.

 

Ashes to Ashes'  getting pulled off the schedule literally at the last moment, was very surprising and maddening. 

No reason was given for the abrupt and unexpected change in scheduling and, as of yet, no current revised launch date for Season Two of Ashes to Ashes has been made available, other than that it will "air later this year."

My spouse and I watch A2A on Saturday nights when it airs in Central US and I was ecstatic that it was going straight into S2 without interruption. It is a very funny show. Way better than many shows and unique too, versus most American television.

Those of you anxious to see Season Two of the Life on Mars sequel series Ashes to Ashes had better hold on to your hats... and sit tight.

BBC America, which was slated to launch Season Two of Ashes to Ashes on Saturday, May 2nd, has indicated that it will be delaying the launch date for the second season, instead opting to launch Season Three of sci-fi series Primeval in the Saturdays at 9 pm timeslot.

When it was still missing this Saturday past I looked it up and totally flipped out that BBC America has dissed Ashes to Ashes so blatantly.

Meanwhile, the BBC One trailer screen shots for Ashes to Ashes Season Two, which launched earlier this week in the UK, can be seen above and below.

Let's Talk Screen Caps! - LOST S5 Finale - The Incident - Sky One Video *SPOILERS*

There seems to an an avalanche of LOST previews and sneak peeks being released and/or leaked in the last day or so. Most of them have much blood, shooting, and explosions.

Today's find by The ODI was a little bit different in that in wandered full on into 'shipper territory.
Without rehashing the past 5 seasons too much, there's been a triangle of the girl, Kate (Eve Lilly) and two very different-yet-equally-baggage-laden boys.
Jack (Matt Fox) is a surgeon, a pillhead, a heavy drinker and his emotional stability at any given time is questionable as well as his adherence to the Hippocratic Oath.

James "Sawyer" LaFleur (Josh Holloway) is a con man, a murderer, and a serial liar.
For Kate's part she too, is a murderer and a thief and like almost every other LOSTIE, has daddy issues.

After a couple of years* of Kate ping-ponging back and forth between Jack and Sawyer, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) was introduced. At the time, she was an Other--a bad guy--but she turned pretty quickly after realizing that the LOSTIES wanted off the Island as much as she did. Juliet had a thing for Jack--they went as far as kissing--but Season 4 ended with her and James stranded on the Island together whilst Jack and Kate helicoptered off into the sunset (more or less).

Jack and Kate had a relationship including an engagement back on the mainland and Sawyer and Juliet shacked up together for 3 years as part of the Dharma Initiative. Now the foursome is reunited (sort of) and the push-pull-ping-ponging is warming up for Season 6, which premieres, in 8 months.

IMO, the triangle then quadrangle was one of the least interesting aspects of LOST except for maybe that time when Kate and Sawyer had sex in a cage while Jack watched them on a monitor. I really hope that we don't get stuck in the same groove but that could well be the case if my death poll turns out to be right and one of the four gets pulled out of the equation.

I have a couple of screen caps that made me go WTH? What do you think of them? What's happening?

So we have Katie, Jules and Jim. Kate and Juliet appear to be in the midst of being forced to shoot someone. Sawyer/James looks to be taking a bullet. Are one or both of the ladies shooting him?

Here it appears that Juliet is in great distress plus WTH is that smokey stuff either going into her mouth or coming out?! This one truly has me stumped.

This is (our hero) Jack, of course. He's in a fire fight and he's lugging an out-of-it Sayid. Is Sayid going
to make it? How badly is he hurt?

 

The promos have told us that John Locke, the "leader" of the Hostiles/Others has stated that he wishes for Ben to kill the never-seen but all-powerful Jacob. Is this a scene inside Jacob's cabin? Will Ben actually go through with it when he's not ever actually seen Jacob? Do you think they are gonna make us wait until next season before we know? (No need to answer the last query.)

This is Frank Lapidis, the pilot that was supposed to have been at the helm of the crashed Flt. 815, who actually did pilot a helicopter onto and off of the Island, allowing the O6 to escape, and he is the commercial airline pilot who brought most of them back--plus some other people who also haven't been given much to do but seem to be obsessed with this big box and what "lies in the shadow of the statue." I like Frank but given how little he seems to do, do you think he's going to be collateral damage in the Season 5-ending episode?

Timberlake and Samberg Follow “Dick in a Box” With “Motherlover” featuring Susan Sarandon - Patricia Clarkson

Host Justin Timberlake worked song and dance into nearly every sketch on this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live — his take on Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” while dressed as a giant breast implant was pretty amusing, and he also appeared alongside musical guest Ciara (clip after the jump) — but “Motherlover,” his new digital short with “Dick in a Box” costar Andy Samberg stole the show.

Set five months after their “Dick” bust, the pair of Color Me Badd-styled singers leave jail just in time for Mother’s Day, realize they have no gifts for their moms (their boxes are empty without the dicks) and plot an ingenious, filthy “switcheroo” over hero sandwiches — because what’s a better present than sex with your son’s pal? This song is very, very bad and very, very funny.
I always forget to watch SNL because let's face it, it's been with the exception of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, not exactly "must see tv."
But this I might not have watched anyway because the one time I saw Justin Timberlake live--with the Rolling Stones believe it or not--he was awful. Truly terrible. But between "Dick in a Box" and his other comedy bits as well as his very strong "enhanced" performances--as in his bit here with Ciara, I may have to reconsider.

More True Blood Season 2 casting news for Episode 7 “Release Me.” Sarah Scott has been cast to play the role of Francis who is described according to a previous casting call as a pretty young chorus girl who has been hired by Lorena to dance for Bill during a 1935 flashback scene. She is described to be giggly, excited, and very drunk. During the scene she will have to know how to tap dance.

Dexter Update - Can a serial killer juggle a personal life, work, and his 'dark passenger'?

 

I didn't realize that Dexter does not premiere until fall 2009! WTH? I thought for sure it was slated to start again this summer. I've caught up on my EW reading and according to them there's still a very long wait. I'm bummed! (I'm also stoked but I can't maintain that level of stoked-ness until fall! I'll have to re-stoke at some point.)

When the Showtime hit returns next fall, six months will have lapsed on screen, leaving newlyweds Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Rita (Julie Benz) the proud parents of a baby boy. "This season, we're going to deal with: Can a serial killer juggle a personal life, work, and his 'dark passenger'?" reveals executive producer Sara Colleton. "In other words, can Dexter have it all? Which is something all of us grapple with every day of our lives. So we're taking something that is a very human dilemma and putting it through the prism of Dexter's special needs."

Further complicating Dexter's intricate balancing act will be a new, as-yet-uncast male antagonist who will "cross paths with Dexter in a major, dramatic way," teases Colleton. "He will illuminate a lot about Dexter's life and force him to make some tough choices." (Word is they're looking for a "Jeff Daniels-type" to play the role.)

Meanwhile, Dex's plucky sister, Deb (played by Hall's real-life wife, Jennifer Carpenter), will unwittingly threaten to shed light on his dark secret. "All the way through the season, Deb -- in her need to know her father more -- is going to get closer and closer to figuring out who Dexter's mother was and her relationship with her father," says Colleton. So might the day come when Dex is forced to slice and dice her? "That is inconceivable to me," declares Colleton. "Deb and Dexter are the best brother-and-sister team ever."

What ever happened to Dexter? Is there going to be a fourth season?
Of course, he's a serial killer. Season 4 goes into production in late May/early June and will probably premiere toward the end of September. If you couldn't guess from last season's wedding finale, the next cycle focuses on Dexter as a family man: How does he balance his role as a husband and father of three with his grisly nocturnal endeavors? Most parents can't find time to catch a movie, much less mete out bloody vengeance.

More about virtuality from io9 - Bottom line: It's a bleak and disturbing look at the effects of a long space trip on humans, as dark in its own way as Battlestar Galactica. It sort of reminded me of the underrated film Sunshine, in the focus on psychological drama in cramped quarters, plus the dangerous repair sequence and the fact that the ship has a hydroponic garden. But the "reality TV" aspect adds a whole extra sardonic layer to the cake.

Kate is puzzled by Jack as well. Jack is pretty squirrely at times but she pulls some major dumb moves because she leads with her heart. Now at least. It's been hammered pretty hard into the audience's skull that three years as a mommy changed Kate.

She's still nice to gaze upon even if she has gone all mushy. ;)

LOST 5x15 - "Locke's Impeccable Timing" (below needs to be lightened -sorry)

How did Locke know when exactly to meet himself in the jungle? My head hurts trying to unravel what timeline Locke, Richard, Ben, et al at are in if the incident that I thought was from the past recurred again?! Colour me confuzzled. I sort of agree with showrunner Carlton Cuse that when this season is over "it is time for the time travel craziness to end," he said. "And once it does end, something very, very surprising will happen in its wake,"quoth he at last week's Star Trek premiere.

Everything Is New Again at Typepad... or, Who loves ya, baby?

..or at least that's how it feels. In a good way! There are just all kinds of new features that the talented, smart, and creative team at Six Apart have been offering up that really lend themselves to easy and painless customization and making and joining conversation with some fascinating folks and other good stuff--like this fun Q and A from TypePad.

I think it's another new feature here at TypePad but I loved a similar one at Vox (which I must say I'm not getting over to as much as I 'd like).

Here's the Q:
Blockbuster season starts this weekend with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Next up: Angels & Demons, The Transformers, Harry Potter, Star Trek and Land of the Lost. Which summer mega-hit are you most looking forward to?

Star Trek: My dad, nerdy science dude that he is/was "force-fed" the original Star Trek series to me. It was on in the morning, I think on a UHF station(!) The concept of a peaceful universe, beaming up and phasers and the Prime Directive was cool but I was not a big fan of the show. Later, I enjoyed most of TNG and the often-ignored Deep Space Nine. I didn't initially watch the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation because I disliked the original Star Trek, most especially Shatner as Kirk. I'm being truthful when I say he makes me gag. Spock was always cool and Scotty and McCoy were amusing. Not seeing it unless someone I know is dying to see it.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: How big a part does Dom Monaghan have? I miss him since he was killed off LOST. Hugh Jackman is cute n' angsty but he alone couldn't get me in the theater to watch it. Possibly, I may take my kid if he wants to go. The one Jackman did with Anna Paquin (were there two?) was OK.

Transformers: Probably yeah 'cos my first son was devoted to the original TV show when he was little so I watched, too (spent a fortune on transforming cars and trucks) and I've seen newer incarnations through my younger son. I've always dug the transforming sound and that cars and trucks could turn into robots. It was a pretty cool show. I'm curious to know if they'll keep Shia's seriously busted-up hand hidden as he broke it off-set, but while filming, I believe. Still gets surgery on it. Yikes.

Angels & Demons: No.

Harry Potter: Have read and watched the film series so far so, yes.

EDIT/Igot this confused with Land of the Giants.

The plot of land of the Lost appears the similar except this is a Will Ferrell comedy./end edit

Land of the Lost: Did not even hear about this one 'till the other day.
I watched the teevee show (again, in the mornings on UHF, the public television channel). Depends on who is in it and what the reviews are like. I haven't missed the show but they could probably do some cool things with it.

Torchwood - Children of Earth - Teaser and Promo Video

Why do films and television shows featuring large groups of weird children freak us out even more than large groups of weird adults?

There something about creepy kids, in my recollection going back to Billy Mumy as the kid in the "It's A Good Life" episode from the classic science fiction series, Twilight Zone.

In the 1961-made episode, the kid, who was about age 6, had a very short fuse and with his mind would either turn people into objects (jack-in-the-box) or send them to the cornfield from which they would never return. Just thinking of him makes me get a chill. The kids in this uber-short promo for Torchwood evoke that kind of feeling.

After months of speculation, the third series of the Doctor Who spin-off show, Torchwood, is to be broadcast on BBC1 in June.

The British Film Institute are hosting a preview of the first episode on Friday, 12th June at the National Film Theatre in London. This would suggest that Torchwood: Children of Earth will start broadcasting on 15th June. As previously announced by the BBC, the five-part series will be aired over five consecutive nights though it would appear that this format will not be observed when it is screened on BBC America.

1965: Twelve children are gathered on a deserted moor, before being surrounded by a harsh, bright light .... and then they are gone!
Today: all over Earth, children stop moving. Stop playing, stop laughing. Then, as one, they begin to speak with the same voice, announcing the imminent arrival of a new alien threat. In one epic story told over five nights the new series, to be broadcast for the first time on BBC One in June, promises to be Torchwood's greatest adrenalin-fuelled, high octane adventure yet.

Torchwood: Children of Earth re-joins Captain Jack (John Barrowman), Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) who are still coming to terms with the death of two of their closest friends. Despite their pain, they have a job to do.

This time they are faced with their fiercest threat to date - one which throws the future of Torchwood and the entire human race spiralling into danger. They battle against the odds but do they stand a chance of saving mankind?

Q: I know Weeds started filming season 5 recently so you've got to know something! I need to know what's up with Nancy.
Ausiello: Her health may be going to pot. Producers are auditioning thirtysomething actresses to play Nancy's trusted doctor on a recurring basis. Of course, the fact that the role is calling for tasteful nudity and simulated sex makes me wonder if Nancy will be playing doctor with her doctor. Source: EW

Weeds is a quirky little (30 mins) show on SHO. It is about "that" kind of weed though any suppositions after that you probably shouldn't make. First of all the lead character a widowed MILF, Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker) doesn't smoke the stuff at all, nor does she condone it other than formerly having sold it when she found herself in serious financial straights after she was prematurely widowed. Nope. Nancy's big vice is sipping on jumbo take-out cups of coffee continuously but it looks like (maybe) in Season 5 she might have to give up that "vice" too as the cliffhanger to S4 was Nancy claiming to be pregnant with a charming, suave, Mexican druglord/mayor's baby. Like I said, quirky. Worth watching for Parker and her stellar supporting cast which includes Elizabeth Perkins, Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon.

Have you watched BBC America's Ashes to Ashes yet? It is, as explained under the video above, the sequel to a hit UK series, Life On Mars. "Life" did not fare so well here in the States and has now ended but "Ashes" does pick up a number of plot pieces, most importantly the popular character DCI Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister. Keeley Hawes is the eye candy mixed with intelligence and angst and though Hunt is a curmudgeon, DI Alex Drake is the most somber having been shot in the year 2008 and instead of dying (we think) she is in some alternative reality world set in 1981.

This is where the show, which is quite funny-vulgar, takes on a "tailored just for me" feel as I was just-turned 21 years-old in '81 so "Ashes," which is accurately described by the LATimes as a "polarized backdrop of anarchists and yuppies, with florid New Romantics in between...(with) shout-outs to Pong and the neutron bomb, along with a soundtrack dominated by jittery post-punk and synth-pop" offers up some welcome "remember whens."

Ashes to Ashes has a familiar resonance for both me and my spouse and we many times are unaware that we are humming along to the many tunes we recognize. 1981 was not the best time in the world of fashion tho' and so I'm fervently hoping that DI Drake is allowed to shed some of the hideous off-shoulder get-ups that she seems to live in. I think getting her out of the really bad perm is going to be more of a challenge, poor thing.

My son tells me that it is quite common for UK series to be so small in number per season as generally the shows are written by far fewer writers than their American counterparts. I think that is a clever was of scripting a series as I've found that the more bloated with writers a series is,the more uneven the quality is and sometimes characters that you thought you knew act completely "wrong" and I do think that's is due to sloppy continuity.

The 8-episode first season of Ashes to Ashes has just concluded, moving the plot forward quite satisfyingly. Happily, the second season picks up  on May 2 without skipping a week, so it will seem a bit more like a traditional American broadcast television schedule.
