Evan Rachel Wood Cast As Princess Sophie SPOILERS AHEAD!

"Sources confirm to me exclusively (not me, Cyn--most probably based on the multiple-use of the word "frakkin'" below--and I removed one, Ausiello) that True Blood creator Alan Ball has tapped Evan Rachel Wood to play the pivotal role of Sophie-Anne, the vampire Queen of Louisiana!

Who dat, you ask? She's a 500-year-old vampire from France who is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. She's a consummate diplomat who has (or had) many of history's most famous people on speed dial.

Short story shorter: It's a major frakkin' part, and landing Wood (whose last significant TV gig was Once and Again) is a major frakkin' coup.

A True Blood insider tells me that Wood is booked for two episodes, both of which will air towards the end of the show's upcoming second season. But rest assured, if the show is renewed for a third season (and, please, it will be), Wood will be back...."

These are neat because they really give you an appreciation for the detail that went into the set of HBO's sexy, violent vampire southern Gothic tale, originally conceived by Charlaine Harris for her "Sookie Stackhouse" series of southern Gothic vampire novels.

The showrunner of "True Blood," the acclaimed Alan Ball whose credits include the sublime "Six Feet Under," says he simply picked up one of the Sookie Stackhouse books on a whim--and then as I did--consumed the 7-book (new one out May 09) series.

It's a great story and Alan Ball knows how to put together a great ensemble cast.

Just read tonight (04.24.09) that Evan Rachel Wood is joining the cast for a role that begins near the end of this season. She sounds perfect as Princess Sophie-Anne, an ancient vampire in the body of a young woman--turned when she was in her teens.

I followed Evan Rachel Wood's last big TV vehicle,"Once and Again" from beginning to end and she stole every scene she was in--not to mention the successes she has scored since so I'm totally jazzed to read that she's joining the cast. If you are female and you have not seen"The Upside of Anger" find it and do so. She's up against a bunch of blonds (sisters) including "mom," Joan Allen and Evan totally rocks.

April 23, 2009 -- A section of Australia's Great Barrier Reef, which scientists have warned could be killed by global warming within decades, has regenerated itself in record time, a scientist said Thursday.

But Laurence McCook, head of research for the authority that preserves the World Heritage-listed reef, said the giant organism remained at serious threat of climate change and labeled the partial regeneration a "lucky escape."

The badly damaged stretch of coral at Keppel Island, at the reef's southern end, became strangled by seaweed after it began bleaching in 2006 due to elevated sea temperatures and acidity, the results of global warming.

Bleaching occurs when the plant-like organisms that make up coral die and leave behind the white limestone skeleton of the reef.

Yesterday, my son came home from high school and he did what he always does. The routine each day after school is for him and me to go through his day, recounting what he did in his classes. When he got to his Engineering class, he mentioned something odd in the instruction that his teacher gave in regard to how my son's class should interact via Internet (Skype) with students from another District 211 high school, Conant H.S., with whom they are collaborating on a major project. His class was told to be careful how they interacted with the Conant High School kids who were just returning to school after the weekend in which they learned that a senior Conant girl and her family had been brutally stabbed by the girl's older sister's boyfriend.

I've been out on the loop on local news and had missed the story but my son had printed out a couple of articles off the nets before leaving school yesterday and I read the story with great sadness. The sadness turn to anger however when I read that already the perpetrator's court-appointed lawyer was "spinning" his client's tale of woe--child welfare case messed up in the system.
Take a look at a snap of the man that stabbed an entire family. For one thing he's not a child, he's 20 y.o.--old enough to have made the choice not to stab an entire family because you were pissed at the world.

My younger son has construed a general notion of what would be his ideal of a justice system that works. He calls it the "iron fist" justice system though he doesn't have all the details worked out--much would have to change. Broadly speaking, we stop going all soft on violent offenders. Ultimately, garbage like the person who essentially killed a whole family would be tossed.

I'm also mad at the sister who had a kid with this guy, a convicted, violent sexual predictor. I know she'll feel bad that she is ultimately the reason why that man was anywhere near her family. I'm just really mad and I can't even blog openly about my feelings about how society makes excuses for the "D'Andre Howards" of the world. A thug is a thug and as such is a threat to society.

It's now up to the only physically unscathed member of this family besides older sis with the murderous bf, the guy in the photo, age 20 that sort of looks like Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters circa his Nirvana era. He was at a good university, editor of the college paper, finishing out his junior year when he was informed on his family's demise. Now he gets to cope with this and hope his mom pulls through all right. Otherwise, he's left only with his dumbass sister who brought the documented convicted felon into her bed, ultimately sending their dad, little sister, and grandmother to their graves.
I'm really angry. And sad.

Before going to the Hoffman Estates home where he allegedly stabbed three people to death, 20-year-old D’Andre Howard went to the suburb’s police station, authorities said Monday.

Howard was arrested early Friday on a traffic warrant by Hoffman Estates police, but was released from custody barely an hour later after posting bail, police said....

Howard is charged with murdering his girlfriend’s younger sister, 18-year-old Laura Engelhardt; her father, 57-year-old Alan Engelhardt; and her grandmother, 73-year-old Marlene Gacek.

Howard — the father of the couple’s 8-month-old daughter — also is charged with critically wounding 52-year-old Shelly Engelhardt, his girlfriend’s mother.

Neither his girlfriend nor daughter was harmed, authorities said.

Howard and Amanda Engelhardt had quarreled earlier that night at their Hoffman Estates apartment, but Engelhardt had taken their daughter and gone to her parents’ nearby home, authorities have said

At Hoffman Estates' Conant High School, senior Laura Engelhardt would lean against a locker in the morning, ready to make her friends laugh.

There was a lot to be happy about. Engelhardt was an A student who had just chosen a college. She enjoyed a close bond with her father. And in recent days, she began dating a boy on whom she had long harbored a crush.

When school  began Friday, though, she wasn't at her locker.

"I just thought, 'Oh, you get a boyfriend and forget about your friends,' and laughed about it," said her friend Jenny Earl, 17.

Engelhardt, her father and grandmother were stabbed to death Friday in the family home in Hoffman Estates, authorities said. D'Andre Howard, 20, a man who had a relationship with Engelhardt's older sister, has been charged with their slayings.

Hey True Blood Fans - I'd heard about this True Blood scene being aired at the Paley Fest (which I had not realized runs for about as long as some series). Anyway  found  the video clip in a couple places but it had been removed. I'm guessing that the True Blood/HBO peeps wanted control over exactly "when" it got out so we could finally have a glimpse of True Blood, Season 2 in not-bootleg quality. Watching for the first time...

Oh cool! Creepy! What is that creature that attacks Sookie, slashing her down the back with it's claws, rendering her immediately unconscious!?! P.S. WTH is going on with Sookie's hair? Is it supposed to look funky (prior to the attack)?

I just realized that the television series, "Caprica" which premieres on the SyFy Channel in 2010 (though the 2-hour premiere is out on DVD any minute now), has "William Adama" as a character. The William Adama. I'm kind of annoyed with myself that I didn't make the connection but let's face it the status of Caprica was/is partially due to the writer's strike and so it was in "development hell" for 2 years. In other words, it really had no home. Thankfully, that's all been sorted out and Caprica, which as Battlestar Wiki  points out is, "unlike most science fiction series,... a tale of our ancestors rather than our descendants" has been officially picked up  by the SyFy network.
As a long-time Battlestar Galactica fan I have to admit that I'm a bit hesitant about the series as the showrunners have made clear that it will not have much in common with Battlestar Galactica, starting with it's non-space setting. Certainly though, good television science fiction is welcomed and am I glad that "Caprica" was finally green-lighted.

On December 2, 2008, SciFi Channel officially announced that Caprica is picked up for a 20 episode first season. According to the press release, production is slated to begin in the summer of 2009 and the series is expected to begin airing in 2010. The reason for the delay is attributed to the fact that they are attempting to regroup the core staff that worked on the pilot and Battlestar Galactica, as these persons have since found work on other projects.

Analysis

True Blood Season 2 Spoiler From Paley Fest - Video Sneak Peek

As you may or may not know a scene from an already completed episode of HBO's Season 2 True Blood was played at the industry gathering, Paley Fest.

To give you a taste of what goodies are in store for True Blood, Season 2 here's a little snippet synopsis (SPOILER):

Sookie, Bill and Jessica, the teenage vamp that Bill was ordered to "sire" in Season One, are driving late at night.

Jessica, who's face is covered in blood, has apparently tried to "reconnect" with her family at Sookie's urging - to disastrous results. A furious Bill lays into Sookie about it, leading her to get out of the car and walk home. Once alone, Sookie encounters a shadowy creature with horns and talons that attacks her. Her screams alert Bill.

Even though showrunner Alan Ball has spoken of deviating from the Sookie Stackhouse books I'm willing to bet that "the creature" is in fact the maenad, Maryann, played by the superb Michelle Forbes. In the second book of the Sookie series, "Living Dead In Dallas" though there is no "Jessica" the maenad (pronounced mee-nad) does attack Sookie, injuring her so badly that she must be taken to a supernatural healer, a role that has already been cast this season. I really cannot wait 'cos this is gonna be good!

Disneyland and Laguna Beach Family Vacation 04/09- Part 1

Last big family trip until the youngest is done with uni. Thank the powers that we have Maple Lake. I'll put up a few more after I go through them. There are some interesting ones of the open-in-2012 "Cars" section of the park. Nifty models and colour plans.

My new favourite Disneyland (California Adventure) ride- "Pixar's Toy Story Midway Madness." <exhale>
Mr. Potato Head is animatronic and interactive. Keeps you company in the line--which we found later can be bypassed by riding single rider--no line at all. I sucked at this paintball shooting game but it was big fun. Lots of people said they liked it more than Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters in Disneyland but they are really different.

I love Disney but I could have stayed here for a week, just chillin'. It's south Laguna Beach at sunset.

I have a ton of Disneyland shots but this too is in Disney's California Adventure whcih they are in the process of a near-complete makeover after only 8 years(!).There were flowers everywhere and after the long Chicago winter everything looked so _alive_.

Your first day on Twitter can be rough. Twittering's still a brand new thing to a lot of people, and a lot of people have Twitterfails. Nobody on Twitter on Friday, though, got as much attention as Oprah, who tweeted for the first time.

Sadly, her inaugural tweet was all in caps. Thankfully, Shaquille O'Neal was there to remind the talk show host that her caps were on. We'd like to congratulate Shaq for having Oprah's back. That's what Twitter friends do for each other. Credit CNET

True Blood "sire" Alan Ball, appearing at Paley Fest, said that new episodes of the show have scenes many of which do not originate from Charlaine Harris' superb Sookie Stackhouse series "that will make your jaw drop." 

Because the Season 2 premiere is still about 2 months away, to satiate your True Blood-lust E! Online offered a first look at the teaser posters for the new episodes. At first they seem to depict "a puddle of blood," but look closer and you'll realize that they're really "an optical illusion hiding something sexier..."

True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have been involved since the beginning of Season One of HBO's True Blood though they kept it under wraps, not wanting to make the rest of the True Blood Cast uncomfortable. However during the hiatus they came out of the coffin uh, closet.

The show's Bill-Sookie-Eric triangle was much discussed as the cast and producers of HBO's vampire drama took the stage at the Paley Center for Media's 25th Annual TV Festival last Monday night.

Showrunner Alan Ball and his stars, including Anna Paquin and Alexander Skarsgård, spoke to E! about the "Viking vampire" getting more screentime, who will get more than their fair share of bruised and bloodiness (and not the fun kind!) and who's playing with the new supernatural creatures.

Also, Stephen Moyer spoke to E! about how he truly feels about Eric extending his fangs in Sookie's general direction in season two of HBO's True Blood.

Weeds Casts Jennifer Jason Leigh As Nancy's Big Sis

Oh, I like the latest casting news about "Weeds."

Jennifer Jason Leigh generally acts in indie films though many people remember her from earlier, more mainstream films like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Single White Female.

I think she and Mary Louise Parker (Nancy Botwin, the lead character in "Weeds") will play really well off one another.

Meet Nancy's sister.

In her biggest TV commitment, Jennifer Jason Leigh has been tapped to recur on Showtime's comedy series "Weeds," playing Mary-Louise Parker's estranged older sister.

Leigh is set to appear in at least two episodes of the Lionsgate TV-produced series, which was picked up last year for Seasons 5 and 6.

As Nancy (Parker) finds herself and her family in harm's way, she sends her brother-in-law, Andy (Justin Kirk), to take her son, Shane (Alexander Gould), to live with her estranged older sister, Jill (Leigh).

But when Jill gets fed up with her own suburban family, she finds her way back into Nancy's life -- jealous, frustrated and intent on finally hashing things out with her little sister.

The fifth season of "Weeds" premieres in June.

Dollhouse and Terminator: Rumours, Innuendo and the Stability Index - FULL Video Dollhouse NEEDS, Promo - SPY IN THE HOUSE...

WHEN A SPY IS DISCOVERED IN THE DOLLHOUSE ECHO BECOMES SHERLOCK HOLMES TO UNCOVER THE TRAITOR ON DOLLHOUSE FRIDAY, APRIL 10, ON FOX

When a traitor is discovered inside the Dollhouse, Echo and Sierra are programmed as spy hunters to uncover the culprit. Meanwhile, Ballard receives surprising news from Mellie, and Adelle harbors a secret in the Spy in the House of Love episode of DOLLHOUSE airing Friday, April 10 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

"Needs" Dollhouse Season 01E08

Echo leads the Actives in an escape from the Dollhouse.

This is bound to put Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles fans into another round of teeth-gnashing and wailing.

Though Airlocke Alpha disclaims it's information to "be treated as any rumor would..." their article  does have some intriguing info as to how Terminator:TSCC got it's back nine episodes (back-room deal) and why after the potential payoff of that deal is no more therefore so shall T:TSCC ( be no more).
Even more surprising is that the utterly unimpressive "Dollhouse" is up for consideration of renewal.
I thought for sure after viewing the Dollhouse episode "Needs"--the third episode I've viewed--that Dollhouse was done for.

I'd sworn off ever watching Dollhouse given Whedon's deep reservations, but decided to be fair that I should watch the "new, improved" episodes beginning with S1E06.

I've now watched Dollhouse Episodes 6, 7, and 8--"Needs" shown in full above. Eppy 6 was OK but both episodes 7 and 8 were no better than the worst of Sarah Connor. Ironically, while Dollhouse has stayed not great, the past couple of episodes--indeed the last episodes ever of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles have seemed to come back into focus and are among the best of not only this season, but of the series.

I fully understand from a business angle "why" FOX is waiting to make the announcement (that they long ago decided) that Sarah Connor is to be cancelled. It's all about money as that is why they call it commercial television. It behooves them in the most obvious way to keep viewers engaged through the end of the series, even if it break the hearts of the loyal viewers that are hoping against hope.

I felt 90% certain that surely that it was over based on Summer Glau's comments about her feelings about Season 2 of Sarah Connor finishing filming. One does not get "sad" about simply a season ending when one is looking at a season to come. Summer knew then that the show was finished forever in this incarnation. My gut feel was she was trying to hint broadly without it sounding so. (This is where all those years training to be a therapist help me write about teevee shows!). I can't remember which actor on T:TSCC stated their feelings as "sad," in re: the show too, but two "sads" at a season ending versus series ending could've only added up to cancellation, all things considered.

So all this going back and forth about official announcement or lack thereof. Most of the time you don't need them to predict the fate of a show.

I'm not shocked that FOX is toying with the idea of keeping Dollhouse for another season. FOX screwed Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon once with Firefly. I think, given the rabid fan following that Whedon carries, they've been alerted to the error of their ways. If  FOX thinks they can still make money as in DVD sales (for which Firefly did very well) and paid downloads it is certainly worth a ponder.

I'm not a business-minded person when it comes to what we use to fondly refer to as the "boob tube." I'm here to be entertained, informed, moved and the like by my television shows and Dollhouse does none of these consistently for me. In fact, Terminator is better than Dollhouse and would have been more deserving of reconsideration of cancellation.

I'm incredulous that anyone saw anything redeeming in Dollhouse, Episode 8, "Needs." There are a couple of good actors stuck in this mess and they are enjoyable but not so much that I can sit through the awfulness that is the "actives" when they are in their non-emotive state. They put me to sleep. And that dopey dude who speaks like a refugee from Buffy--Fran Kranz as "Topher Brink." His psuedo mad scientist routine coupled with Buffyspeak? It's not working, Joss.

And Eliza again--why is she always the leader? Two words to make Dollhouse better: Ensemble cast. The only way I'll keep watching Dollhouse is if Tahmoh gets more to do than shirtless scenes. It's gimmicky already how often they are having Tahmoh strip and show us his "gym rat's" buff physique.

Do something because I don't care how much the Whedon fanboys and girls fawn: Dollhouse does not entertain me. And don't yell at me, please. I'm a Whedon fan myself.

Also, get Amy Acker's storyline beefed up tout de suite!

I'm just realizing how much I've missed her. I would in fact love to trade out Eliza Dushku  who has very average acting skillz with Amy Acker who has actually grown as an actor over the years.

The Fox network is just a step away from shaking up its Friday lineup for the 2009-10 season, canning one show and considering a move to a new night for a second.

Let's hit the good news first. Airlocke Alpha has learned that Fox is looking to give its struggling "Dollhouse" a second season, to see if it can grow some legs on a new night. Fox had originally intended "Dollhouse" to air Mondays with "24," but Fox instead decided to move "House" to that spot to replace "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," and to create sort of a genre theme night on Fridays.

The audience for "Dollhouse" are not exactly where Fox had hoped they would be, however, critical reaction to later episodes following its February premiere has grown more positive toward the series as it has had the chance to flesh itself out. Showrunner Joss Whedon had said ahead of its premiere that he had gone back to retool certain aspects of the show, including using a new premiere episode than what was originally planned, eventually canning what would have been the premiere.

The move seems to be an easy one for Fox. While the audience hasn't been as large as expected, it has instead remained stable. It's not a number that Fox uses, but "Dollhouse" carries a BlipNetwork Stability Index Rating of 92.0, better than every other network genre show currently on television outside of "Reaper" on The CW, which has a 94.7. A Stability Index Rating is the comparison of the show's highest overnight rating and its average overnight rating to see how much of its overall audience a show has retained.

Other factors in favor of the show continuing is that it's not as expensive as other Fox shows. Much of its upfront costs, including the construction of the elaborate set that is the dollhouse itself, were covered by funds that normally would've paid for a pilot (no pilot was made for "Dollhouse"). Also, while Whedon's Mutant Enemy Productions and star Eliza Dushku's Boston Diva Productions are tied to the series, 20th Century Fox Television is still the primary production company involved, which means its licensing fee is not as steep as it would be if the show was produced by another studio.

That, along with ratings, is one of the aspects killing "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." That show is set to end its second season April 10 after a 22-episode run, but its sophomore season has been nothing but a complete struggle.

After a so-so debut on Mondays and never finding its grip after that with audiences, Fox teetered on canceling the show until surprisingly deciding to give it a full-season pickup and moving it to Fridays as a lead-in to "Dollhouse." Rumors were that Warner Bros. Television, which produces the show, slashed its licensing fee to prompt a pickup as a way to help it promote its upcoming "Terminator: Salvation," which premieres May 21.

Once "Salvation" premieres, it seems Warner Bros. will have little use to keep "Sarah Connor" on the air, and likely will not continue to provide a licensing fee discount for a third season. That almost assuredly will allow Fox to make the move it normally would've done before New Year's, and that's cancel the show.

Last year, "Sarah Connor" had the worst Stability Index Rating of all network genre shows, mostly from its inflated series premiere following the National Football League playoffs. This year, it's Stability Index Rating is stronger, but out of 14 network genre show tracked by Airlock Alpha this season, "Sarah Connor" is ranked 13th. Only "Life On Mars" had a worse Stability Index Rating, mostly from its freefall following its move from Thursdays against "Eleventh Hour" to Wednesdays following "Lost."

Johnny Depp's new film project is the adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s The Rum Diary.

Depp will play Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico, surrounded by a bunch of lost souls bent on self destruction.

Bruce Robinson has penned and will direct the feature.

I really need to know what these three are doing! Look at them all moving in unison! Are they serious 'cos it kind of resembles a vampire version of the Hokey-Pokey!

I was just lamenting the paucity of anything True Blood coming from HBO. I was totally incredulous that with the start date in June approaching that some buzz wasn't being generated yet by HBO. Remembering their viral campaign of the inaugural season I asked my spouse to keep his eyes peeled for Fellowship of the Sun posters or the like as he travels much more than I. Then I said maybe tonight when I log on I'll find something and boo-ya! I found it! Enjoy!
