I saw some promos while scrolling past the commercials on LOST and I finally stopped and watched some for The Unusuals and the show looks worth hyping. See why I think so below.

The blurb:
Like a modern-day M*A*S*H, "The Unusuals" explores both the grounded drama and comic insanity of the world of New York City police detectives, where every cop has a secret. It also helps to have a twisted sense of humor, since every day could be your last.

Detective Casey Shraeger (Amber Tamblyn) has just been transferred to the NYPD's Homicide unit from Vice and is instantly thrown into a setting of bullets and bodies. As she begins her new assignment, Casey finds that the force is full of secrets, which serves her well, since she's keeping a few of her own. But her first case is not an easy one, as she's assigned to investigate the death of one of the department's own, the former partner of Detective Jason Walsh (Jeremy Renner), who is now her new partner.

As the duo seeks out the cop killer, the secrets and eccentricities of the rest of the department begin to emerge. Prank-magnet and social climber Detective Eddie Alvarez (Kai Lennox) has no qualms about stealing cases, as long as he can turn them into front-page stories; partners Eric Delahoy (Adam Goldberg), who is trying to get himself killed in the line of duty, and Leo Banks (Harold Perrineau), an overly cautious officer who refuses to remove his bulletproof vest, are polar opposites; and the very religious Detective Henry Cole (Josh Close) is trying to keep his secret past from both his streetwise partner, Alison Beaumont (Monique Gabriela Curnen), and Sgt. Brown (Terry Kinney), who is struggling to rid the 2nd precinct of corruption.

I think this show is worth taking a look at because Amber Tamblyn needs a good vehicle to showcase what she does well. Same goes for Harold Perrineau though he seems to adapt really well to almost any role. Love him. Adam Goldberg is never out of place. Just his facial expressions are enough to get me. Finally, Terry Kinney is amazing in anything he's in. I'm not familiar with the others actors' work so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I have not watched a New York cop show since several years before NYPD Blue ended so I know "gritty." A good dollop of comedy infused into such a setting sounds like a premise that can work.Wednesday nights after LOST sounds like a good place to be, too.

Hmm, after watching several preview-promos for this show it's dry sense of humour reminds me of Barney Miller, a show I loved. This will be different because they never left the precinct in Barney Miller and it appears that there's much action in The Unusuals.

I have not seen the show so until I do I can't really say much more. But I will have more to say. ;)

Lucy Lawless to star in 'Spartacus' - with Zena Team Raimi, Tapert for 'Starz" Cabler Airing

Ooh, I've been waiting for another chance to post a pic of Lucy Lawless and thanks to ProgGrrl via @Daily Variety, I now do.  Source: Variety

Lucy Lawless is returning to her action-hour roots, signing on to star in the new fantasy-and-fighting series from "Xena: Warrior Princess" masterminds Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi.

The previously announced project from Starz Media, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," will feature the New Zealand-bred thesp, who starred in "Xena" from 1995-2001, as the proprietor of a camp for gladiators.

Australian thesp Andy Whitfield will play the title role.

(The) project, which goes into production in April, is set to bow on the Starz premium cabler in January, 2010.

Last week, Episode 6, of Dollhouse was my inaugural viewing of the show after initially vowing to not watch based on Joss Whedon's very clear statements about how he feels (felt?) about doing the FOX Network show. I've really enjoyed Whedon's past work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and the short -lived Firefly so it wasn't a choice I made lightly to not watch Whedon's newest offering.

Then about two weeks ago, I started reading quotes attributed to Whedon that as of Episode 6, Dollhouse was going to be better. Instead of skipping past the adverts for the show I watched a couple and decided I'd be pretty strict and give the show three episodes to win me over, keeping in mind that these are episodes 6 through 8, a place where a show should at the very least be showing it's potential. As I said after viewing it, Episode 6 of Dollhouse didn't blow me away but it didn't suck, either so last night I watched Episode 7, "Echoes."
Unfortunately it wasn't as good as Eppy 6. As much as I'm going to sound like part of the Greek chorus saying this, there was way too much Eliza Dushku in it and worse, flashbacks to her past in which she was "herself," pre-Dollhouse. Sadly, "Caroline" is dull and a bit of an airhead and the beginning of her back story was a giant snooze. The present time story had the dolls (except the Dushku character, Echo, who was on an assignment as a hooker) as special agents with a "doctor" thrown in for good measure who are dispatched to a college campus where portions of the student body seem to be suffering from taking some bad acid. In the middle of her hooker gig, "Echo" sees a TV news clip of the college situation and leaves her john tied up to the bed, heading over to the campus for reasons she doesn't exactly know. It turns out to be pretty standard fare from there with Whedon injecting as much of his Scooby gang-type antics amongst the Dollhouse team as they belatedly discover that they are not immune to tripping and they make lots of funny.
I suppose this was designed to be a sure-fire way to make the episode a success but the end result was pretty much meh.
Looking forward to next week we have the synopsis up above which seems to indicate an Eliza-centric eppy again. All I can say is: Joss if you can get ahold of all the episodes to come and cut out some Eliza and splice back in more of the rest of the cast, except maybe "Mellie" who is just awful, and be sure to add a big dollop of Tahmoh Penniket, you just might have a chance in Hades. I wish you the best. The snippet below from TV By the Numbers about Episode 7's viewership is pretty bleak, however.

Daybreak, Part 2 Battlestar Galactica Season 4 : Ep. 22|1:36:04| In the final episode, conflicts reach a climax while Cylons and humans face a stark choice. I haven't watched this vid yet but the first three were pretty fun. This was taped the day before the finale so Katee couldn't really say what she thought about how the show ended. I'm really curious to know how she truly feels about how Starbuck finished up her run with the show. I really hope Katee finds a vehicle in which she can show off her acting chops. If you rewatch "Galactica" from the beginning it'll be obvious just how much she's grown as an actor in 5 years. Unbelievable (but true) that she was only 21 y.o when cast as Starbuck. More later today!

There are plenty of great videos out there if you are feeling Battlestar Galactica withdrawal. Plenty of lively discussions as well. What seems to be galling many people is the way that Starbuck simply went *poof* in her stage left exit scene on New Earth. I have mixed feelings but the reality is the show must be taken as a whole and it was Ron Moore's show and this is the ending he wrote. Katee Sackhoff is very much alive as these videos will attest. Dollhouse - FULL EPISODE and Recap - Man On The Street - S1E06 - Videos *SPOILERS* - Promo Photos E1.09 - Spy in the House of Love

Man On The Street Dollhouse Season 1 : Ep. 6|49:45| Echo and Agent Ballard come face-to-face for the first time.

Even though I had not planned to watch Dollhouse due to Joss Whedon's stated strong ambivalence about being involved with it and more precisely, involved with network television, Whedon put out the message this week past that as of Episode 6 (see full episode up top) his show had found it's footing and was more reflective of what he'd wanted in the first place.

I watched it and while I wasn't blown away, it was a pretty good episode on the whole. I'd not ever seen an episode of "Dollhouse" before but I was able to follow it. I still need to get some names straight but that's pretty minor.

It almost seems like this episode was a sort of "reboot" of the series and it explained a lot--but still had quite a bit of action. It was Tahmoh Penikett er, "Paul Ballard"- centric so I was very happy about that (and that it was not focused on Eliza Dushku). I hope that Whedon and Dushku face facts--that she works best in an ensemble. There's nothing wrong with that at all--and it's what Whedon writes best, too (Buffy, Angel, Firefly). Pull the other characters forward a bit and don't make more than maybe one-third of the show Eliza/Echo-centric. Keep bringing on the witty quips and I think this may have a chance. I have my hopes sort of high for the next eppy, "Spy In The House Of Love" (dig the title!) which Whedon has also talked up. I'll keep watching and reviewing as I'd like to have something good to watch on Friday nights now that my beloved Battlestar Galactica is no more.

For weeks, Joss Whedon fans have been told to have patience with "Dollhouse," that the show will start to pick up around episode six. So, is it true? Will the promise be fullfilled? KTV reporter Marisa Roffman has screened hours six and seven (the former airs this evening) and says, yeah pretty much...

"Dollhouse" does seem to be on the verge of finding its footing as these next two eps are easily the best of the series so far. What can you look forward to? A mix of jawdropping reveals, action (obviously) and a laugh or two (yep, Joss brings the funny). And you should know that even if you gave up on "Dollhouse" a few weeks ago, you can jump back in tonight and will still totally get what's going down.

So what is going down? This evening will be pretty Paul Ballard-centric. The FBI special agent (Tahmoh Penikett) kicks a lot of ass, gets psychoanalyzed by a dollhouse client, uncovers a lot of information and, oh yeah, meets Echo (Eliza Dushku) for the first time. Their first meeting, however, is not that fight scene that's been shown in the promos. Things are far more calm at first. But the intense altercation you may be waiting for does come shortly thereafter. Echo and Paul beat the crap out of each other tonight and there will be a surprising twist.

Other twists? Surprises? Turns?

A seemingly minor-ish character is not as innocent as he or she believes themselves to be and will get thrown into the main storyline in a major way.

Victor and Sierra will take a few steps forward in the romance department, but don't expect things to be easy, especially given the fact that they aren't supposed to have emotions. I mean, no romance on this show -- be it Victor/Sierra or Echo/Paul (yeah, that's right, I said Echo/Paul) -- will be simple.

"Alias" fans, remember the scene in season one when Vaughn showed Sydney how far SD-6 stretched? Paul Ballard will have a moment similar to that when he learns just how far the dollhouse reaches and how many of them there could be.

Oh, and did I mention that Paul will be half naked for portions of the next two eps? Yes, Tahmoh Penikett spends a few scenes unclothed. Why? He's dealing with an injury and, um, you know, is also getting some sexy time.

Fans wanting to find out more about Boyd will have to wait, as there are no plans to dig deeper into his character this season, but he will get to be the knight in shining armor to a doll (not Echo) tonight.

Fans of Amy Acker, on the other hand, will be getting additional insight into Dr. Saunders pretty soon. According to Whedon, "I love that character, not just because it’s Amy Acker, but because she wears misery and torture on her face literally. We will definitely learn how she came to this fabulous career. In the last few episodes, we get to turn the Acker up pretty hot and it’s very exciting."

As for how all the dolls came to their "fabulous" careers, we'll soon find out that at least one of them is not around because he or she chose to be. Actually, in next week's episode, we'll see what five of the dollhouse inhabitants were like before they began this fascinating work. But that doesn't mean we're flashing back to their lives pre-dollhouse. They are going to wake up in present day... with their old personalities. Yeah.

Scott in Minneapolis: What's coming up on Dollhouse?

Ever wonder what would happen if the Actives on Dollhouse suddenly woke up? Well, your wishes are granted in the April 6 episode "Needs." Five Actives—Echo (Eliza Dushku), Victor, Sierra, November and Mike—suddenly awaken and question where they are, what they are doing there and who is in control. The Actives start to remember things about their real lives and reveal more of their backstories, including the fact that November left someone very important behind when she entered the Dollhouse.

20 Dollhouses?! WTF?? Are we going to see any of them this season? -Rebecca
According to creator Joss Whedon, we won't actually be seeing any of the other dollhouses this season, but we will be meeting some of the people in charge of them and hearing more on the subject. If FOX orders another year of episodes in May though, we'll probably get to peek inside the other DHs down the road. And yes, the plan is to have brand new sets built, not just the set we've seen so far with new people.

True Blood Season Two HBO Premiere Date Set - FOX to Air Season One Starting April 27 *PHOTO*

And just in case you were wondering, Anna and Stephen Have "come out" as a romantic item. Anna has been quoted as stating that the romance began shortly after Season One of True Blood began filming and that it is still very much on.

True Blood Online reports as per Charlaine Harris that the second season of True Blood will start June 14, 2009
With only 12 episodes planned, the season will end August 30.

In addition the FOX network has announced the start date for Season 1 of HBO's True Blood.

True Blood - Season One will air every Monday beginning April 27 on FOX.

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan

Battlestar Galactica, the series...reached its "finale"  on March 20th. But the Sci-Fi series still has a two-hour show with a chunk of the series' cast onboard. It's an "extension" of Battlestar Galactica series and it's due to be broadcast "this fall." The Plan is equivalent to a television film in length. Full title is Battlestar Galactica: The Plan.” The plot will include Cylons living aboard their ships before and after the The Fall of the 12 Colonies after the Cylons nuked all of humanity except a rag-tag, ever-dwindling fleet with no home (Battlestar Galactica 2003-09).

Directed by Edward James Olmos, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, is penned by BSG writer Jane Espenson.

EDIT/ I'm not her biggest fan as far as what she's done on Galactica. And I'm not big on EJO as director, either. I'll watch "The Plan" just to get a better look at this new Six-in-Chains. ;) (see screen cap) I'm sure there will be something good in it.

Although none of them have talked about the synopsis yet, Kate Vernon, who would in every probability play the final Cylon, Ellen Tigh, put some light on the framework of the plot. Vernon is also involved in scripting the plot. “You’ll definitely have a few ‘ah ha’ moments. But there’s a big chunk of what’s been happening on the show that this movie will show the moments right before. You’ll get a big piece of the puzzle from ‘The Plan. It’ll just slide right into focus. The movie will open up the show for fans in a big way because there’s a giant piece missing and this will show you the bigger picture”, Kate Vernon explained. One of my earlier television memories is at age 4, being flopped on the floor with my Dad in front of our black and white television set watching Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone during both shows first run. Later (of course) was Star Trek and now--now I spend far more time at this keyboard than in front of the telly.

When I look back in the years to come, Battlestar Galactica will stand beside those shows as the most memorable and deserving of repeat viewing.

I wouldn't have devoted as much time to Battlestar Galactica as I did if I were not smitten with it. Or more precisely, them.
As Moore rightly pointed out the show was about the characters. I was quickly drawn to them after watching the mini-series. I think I got a girl crush on Six after about 5 minutes, Gaius Baltar the same, Roslin, Chief, Tigh, Helo and of course our heroine, Kara Thrace--all crush-worthy in short order.

Ron Moore and Co. brought the characters alive, not just through the words, not just through the use of skilled actors but through every aspect of the show from the set, the lighting--the music. It all came together and it drew in me like no other television programming that I've watched as a adult ever has.

So, to Ron Moore and everyone that helped him to bring Battlestar Galactica alive and make believable characters that I loved and loathed (often at the same time) THANK YOU!

I feel like everyone has stated their case about why something did or did not work for them in the season finale of BSG. My jaw literally hung open for most of the first hour--it boggled my mind so. And like many events in life, I chose to remember and cherish the best of the finale instead of nit-picking through what did not work for me (though I'll mention a couple things in brief).

As a series, taken on the whole, I loved BSG. Were there episodes that disappointed? Of course there were. Season Three--I need to rewatch it so I can best comment on it as a whole. Season Four had two episodes that did not at all work for me.

What worked the best for me in the second part of the Season 4 finale was:

• Caprica and Gaius surprisingly (and perhaps a bit hurriedly) ending up back together (my inner fangirl is very happy they did).

• I was ecstatic that Helo survived being shot, enabling him to rejoin his wife Athena and human-Cylon daughter, Hera. For many months in re: BSG's ending I've mentally bargained that if they just let Helo live I can deal with almost anything else. So I got my wish.

• I loved the peaceful and dignified way that Roslin succumbed, not in a hospital bed with an IV drip but flying above the verdant "Earth" with her love, Bill Adama at her side.

• I was very attached to the character of Chief and felt profoundly sorry for him at times and though I could see his logic in going off to the (Scottish) highlands to live alone, I still wished he'd found a way to stay among the rest. But there was no plausible way. Ever since he became a fully realized Cylon, the human Chief slipped further away. As he succinctly put it, "I'm just tired of people. Human. Cylon. Whatever." -- Galen Tyrol

• Tory felt Chief's wrath upon his discovery of her her murder of his wife, Cally. Nice bookending of neck-snapping going from the 2003 mini series to this final episode.

• I liked too that as Head Six has been proclaiming since the beginning, yes indeed, she was an angel though quite obviously not the traditional in white with wings. Though we saw much less of him I liked too that the Head Baltar was her companion, a parallel to the newly recoupled Gaius and Caprica Six. It's my blog. I'll squee if I want to.

• I'm glad that after all these years of searching, of not having a home, that what was left of the "rag-tag fleet" found a habitable planet on which to live. It was a good story, well told and I'm satisfied with that. Ron Moore, David Eick, their stellar writing staff, their phenomenal ensemble cast, and their skilled production team have reinforced my love for this genre.

A couple of others summed up their opinions on BSG as well as science fiction genre-storytelling as a whole. I found them salient and I've included them below.

The series began with the premise that the human race had been extinguished by a robot tribe, the Cylons, it had created to enslave. The Cylons, who devoutly follow a single god, have been understood, quite reasonably, as stand-ins for the robotic, prescriptive aspects of religious extremism; they are Islamic fundamentalists in one view, the politically aggressive factions of the Christian right in another. They are literally born and born again.

But toward the show’s finale, as the differences between the Cylons and the remaining humans began to dissolve, the opportunity for a more acutely contemporary symbolism emerged. It became easier to regard the series as an argument for the imperatives of shared interest in a post-racial world.

The series has been far more remarkable for the ways in which its characters’ principles and value systems have evolved. Most notable has been the change in Gaius Baltar, whose self-regarding penchant for expedience finally gives way to a moving and incalculably consequential display of rectitude in the final episode.

In the end, his self-serving rationalism comes to accommodate a genuine commitment to faith, one that seeks to resolve the show’s theological tensions, if not with the kind of pungency one might have hoped for. The humans have been worshiping multiple deities, but the longstanding battle between monotheism and polytheism is irrelevant, Baltar warns his adversary in philosophical summation.

“Whether we want to call that God or Gods or some sublime inspiration or a divine force that we can’t know or understand doesn’t matter,” he says. “God is a force of nature beyond good and evil.”

Roslin’s relationship with the fleet’s military leader, Adama...one built on respect and shared sorrows and a profound inclination to give care, has provided one of the sublime, bittersweet pleasures of the final season. There has been no better or quieter rendering of love in midlife on television. “Battlestar Galactica” ...has drawn the need for, and the sustenance of, emotional connection with a nuanced and deeply felt authenticity.

On "Battlestar Galactica," Cylon couple Saul and Ellen Tigh manage their troubles, which range from garden-variety marital discord to discovering they’re really members of a robotic race, by hitting the bottle.

So with the acclaimed Sci Fi Channel drama coming to an end Friday, the Canadian actors who portray the Tighs, Michael Hogan and Kate Vernon, took coping cues from their small-screen alter egos.

Over cigarettes and pale ale Monday night at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Hogan said the pair was –- to use the show’s favorite curse word –- pretty "frakked up" about it. "I don't know if I'll ever be able to growl 'gods damnit' ever again," he said.

Vernon sipped Chardonnay and recalled how surreal it was playing Ellen, who was "ripped" during her entire first episode. "It was drunkalogue after drunkalogue after drunkalogue," she said.

"There seems to be this hidden supply of booze and cigarettes aboard Battlestar Galactica. We're totally out of food, we're on the run, but still we have booze," joked Hogan. "When Ellen came back, it was like, thank God, we know we're going to have more booze."

Vernon was recently revealed to be the mother of all Cylons — "I'm the OctoCylon!" she said — and admitted difficulty letting go of the show. She's been hosting viewing parties for the final batch of episodes in her Sherman Oaks home for the show's Los Angeles-based cast and crew.

"Everybody on the show was a fan," she said."I love watching with the episodes with Michael. We hold hands and go, 'Awwww.'"

When the actress learned Sci Fi Channel would be changing its name to SyFy in hopes of appealing to a less geeky demographic, she scoffed. "It never even occurred to me that we were shooting a science-fiction show," she said. "Never. It's always been just good drama."

I don’t want this day to happen.

I want it to be rescheduled, rethought, removed and recalled.

Tomorrow the story will be over, my tale having been told, and never again will there be the sweet anticipation of waiting for the next episode to be shown to fans and friends. The thought of it makes my heart ache even as swells with pride.

All I know is that today there is a show called Battlestar Galactica and tomorrow there was.

There will be joy in that too, I’m sure, touching the thread of memory and feeling it resonate all the way back to soundstages, locations, cutting rooms, writers’ rooms, and sound bays where I lived for all these years and being comforted by the knowledge that a part of me will never truly leave those places. There will be reunions and retrospectives, special editions and extended cuts, interviews and seminars. Solace can be found.

We’d called the last season Senior Year and here, today, as I prepare to present the final episode to an audience of friends, colleagues, and family, I find myself feeling the same way I did on Graduation day at Chowchilla Union High, all those years ago. The mosaic of faces I’d grown accustomed to seeing day after day would regroup for one last event, one last celebration of our lives together and what we’d done, and then it would be gone but for the transcendent threads of memory waiting to resonant down through the years. I didn’t want that day to happen either and fervently wished for it to be rescheduled, rethought, removed and recalled.

Somehow I get the feeling that today’s wish will not be granted either. So this day, like that one, will wax and wane and all I can do is ride the wave and let it carry me where it will.

Thank you, all of you for coming here through the years. The shippers and the haters, and everyone in between; you’ve watched and you’ve posted and you’ve been a touchstone for my experience with the audience ever since that night back in 2003 when we first declared that the Cylons were created by Man and things were going to be different. It’s been a genuine pleasure to surf your thoughts, rants, questions, snarks, complaints, praise, and humor as you watched our story play out and rest assured I will be here again tomorrow poring through the posts, laughing, cursing, sometimes just shrugging at what you take away from this crazy show.

The takeover of New Caprica was pretty intense. This 6:30 min clip pretty well sums up what went down.

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace may have the best line of the entire series relative to summing up the attitude of the Colonials. They fought until they couldn't. I'm assuming the final 90 minutes of the show will echo that sentiment.

One of things that made Battlestar Galactica a truly fine show was it's art director(s). Some of the shots are truly epic. And they were amazing at setting the tone of the series which was a dark one, yes. Tiny bits of hope dashed time and again. I would love to see them end on a hopeful note as opposed to totally dismal. Not long to wait now.

They got the colour just right for the New Caprica takeover sequence. I am so anxious about the showing ending tonight but I'm so glad that DVD's are an option. I still have to get S3 and of course, S4.5.

I have a "big" birthday this year. I'll ask for those and skip dinner out (Pizza for works for me, especially Chicago deep-dish style. Yum.)

HULU Blurb: Nobody puts D'Anna in the box.

I loved D'anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) especially after she was unboxed by "Brother" Cavil (Dean Stockwell) and while still in the Cylon bath she grabbed his neck and twisted it, rendering him dead. She then sort of tossed his body away --with one hand!-- like garbage, which it turns out he truly is. Cylon garbage. Ick. Anyway, D'anna taking out Cavil is one of my favourite Cylon Death scenes.

I think the Best Cylon Kill scenes have to include when Cylon leader Natalie (Trica Helfer), a Six, removed the inhibitors from the Centurions (who are really coolly rendered during the rare times they are used). She essentially gave them free will and told them that Cavil was the only who wanted to keep them stupid. Then at Natalie's behest, the Centurions walked into a room of Cavils, Simons, and Dorals and shot them right up. This was post-Resurrection Hub being nuked so they were "permanent" deaths." For all of them. To her credit, Natalie tried a number of times to talk to Cavil and he was just a complete ass. Simon and Doral followed his lead, though one could make a convincing case that Doral is an ass without Cavil to lead him around by the nose and Simon seems pretty unlikeable, too.

It's from season 4.0 and I have not yet found it on Hulu but it gets played a lot because it was both shocking, fantastically executed, starred my favourite actress on the show, Trica Helfer in one of her most sympathetic incarnations of Six, and let's be honest, there was lots of CGI shooting and blood to spare. Fun times.

Oh, one more. The New Caprica long-haired Kara as a prisoner of crazy-yet-weirdly-appealing Cylon, Leoben Conoy (Callum Keith Rennie). She killed him repeatedly and he kept coming back, undeterred. I think she grew bored of what had become a sort of murder then resurrect game so in one scene she pretends to like him and he reacts by getting close enough for her to ram her steak knife into his neck. After he makes his last gurgle, Kara calmly wipes her Leoben blood-soaked hand on the carpet and uses the steak knife to cut her ...steak <gah>.  Of course he comes back--but a little disappointed and even slightly annoyed. Even as a prisoner, Kara won that round and they both knew it.

This one sort of threw me. It's from the first episode of the series. Ever wonder why Adama was so quick to believe that the Cylon before him, the thing he would normally call a "toaster," was utterly humanoid when no one else had any notion that the Cylons now "look like us?" Later in the series a young Adama shows us how he knew.

Eddie, though his character nearly got killed, sort of underplayed the scene and I think I like it that way. Even the tail end--so bloody. It was calm--if a murder can be so--when inside as an audience member I'm totally blown away. Great show.

This short clip is from S1E1 so I didn't really know what to expect but this was/is powerful. Eddie Olmos was really good and tougher than nails and Callum Keith Rennie, who over the years figured pretty prominently among the seven Cylons, was very memorable. I was so happy when he became a much more recurring character than say, the Simon or even Dorals. Very fun to watch him.

True Blood - Season Two: The Queen Of Louisiana *SPOILER*

Generally, I don't write much about casting until the episodes air but since I'm as starved for True Blood (currently  filming) information as the next fangirl, I will take the tidbit that Ausiello is calling a "spoiler."

My guess is Ausiello hasn't read the Sookie Stackhouse series. Unless Alan Ball is going to radically change the character of Sophie Anne, The Queen Of Louisiana, he's going to be looking at a youngeractress as in no older than Anna Paquin because Sophie Anne despite being and ancient vampire was to have been fifteen years old, approximately when she was made vampire.

Question: Dude! What's going on?! Where's all the True Blood scoop!? --Ryan

Ausiello: Chill, bro, I've got just the tease for ya -- and so does the show. Alan Ball and Co. are currently talking to "name" actresses to appear in just one episode this season (and more in future ones). The character? No less than Sophie-Anne, the 500-year-old queen of the Louisiana vampires. My mole tells me that Her Highness is as bright and witty as she is powerful and dangerous. (Isn't that always the way?) Michelle Pfeiffer, call your agent -- yesterday!

Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Season Final Part 2 Screen Caps

I made these screen caps from the promo/preview--credit is in the video above. I altered some because I'm trying to discern what is going on in each scene. In one for example, it took me a few moments to discern that there were three John Cavils on camera for that shot. I think. We'll find out. It's the scene with Doral springing into a defence gesture with a rifle and Cavil (or the Cavils, depending) looking like he's going to duck.
Did you watch The Last Frakking Battlestar Galactica Special tonight? It was pretty great. A nice send-off.
Katee can't think of anything about the show that she's glad about. Then she breaks into giggles.
Tricia is glad to have made friends firstly and gotten lots of work opportunities as well. She smiles a lot. They are both cute.

I'm going to watch it again as someone in my house chose to do laundry and the laundry area is really close to the teevee area. It's a small place.<grumble.>  Also, the dialogue and music on the show were not synced well. (Dialogue was swimming in the score making it hard to hear every single word.)

Add to that Jamie Bamber (Lee) especially who seemed to go out of his way to be incomprehensible--though James Callis (Baltar) got difficult for certain words as well. Notably absent from the interviews in the show: Aaron Douglas (Chief). It's America guys. When you speak about yourself/your show in interviews using  sound and no text* you simply must speak American for your Canadian or American audience. Mmk? Thx.

Oh yes. Unless they are frakking with us, that is Gaius (above) on the same turf as the people who volunteered on the attempted rescue mission. So I'm not supposing.

Also in the "BSG Last Frakking Special" tonight creator Ron Moore says quite plainly that Chip/Head!Six/Six in the Red Dress as well as other "Head!" characters, plus one assumes, Adama's house, were "angels," not chips (nor hallucinations).

Battlestar Galactica - Series Finale - Daybreak # 1 -Screen Caps, Video Recap, Finale Day Marathon Promo Video *Spoilers*

I don't want to comment too much yet about last night's Battlestar Galactica "Part 1" of "Daybreak" as it was meant to be shown as a two-hour episode and the writer's strike and network shirts contributed to the timing of it's airing being fraked up. Just the same there were some very strong moments (above) along with the frustrating, seemingly nonsensical ones (Lee and the pigeon).

The show opens with a gorgeous zoom in from a galaxy to an Earth-like planet all the way down to "Caprica City: Before The Fall."

My heart immediately leapt into my throat.

Scene of William Adama with some official who tells him that a "desk job" interview will take but an hour of his time as Adama reluctantly complies while he ticks off where his real talents lie.

Cut to Laura Roslin, tipsy on champagne having just celebrated her "baby sister's" baby shower along with her other younger sister.

Cut to Kara nervously prepping dinner in her apartment that we recognize from Seasons previous. It turns out her guest is not Zak but Lee Adama who rings her doorbell. She invites him in and then Zak makes his appearance. it appears that Kara and Zak are living together.

Cut to Gaius Baltar in a stretch limo with Caprica Six. Apparently this is the day they first met. He has forgotten her name but it matters not as they begin to get intimate. A phone rings. He argues with the person on the line, telling them to stay where they are angrily telling them that he'll be right there.

"Right there" turns out to be a stereotypical old person house, cluttered and dog-eared. His father sits belligerently in a chair and argues with Gaius. Six stands behind Gaius and his father calls her out as a hooker. None of this seems to bother her, not even when Gaius tells her he told her to stay in the car. Gaius is in tears now. He cannot find a nurse who can tolerate his father's dangerous antics.

Cut to yet another scene of Roslin, the next day. She's awakened by her doorbell. Two police officers ask to come in. They quickly state their reason for being there: Last night on their way home both her sisters and her father(?) were killed in a bizarre car crash. In a monotone voice, Laura tells them that they can leave now. She appears to be in deep shock as she makes her way still clad in her nightgown and robe, to a public fountain and climbs into it, walking to the center where she allows the fountain to pour over her and her tears.

A scene three months later has her on the phone refusing to get involved with Adar's presidential campaign because she "hates politics" but very reluctantly agrees to a blind date (with Adar, apparently).

Cut to a drunken Lee Adama staggering in to his apartment, muttering about something. A pigeon has found it's way into his apartment and he takes a broom, attempting to shoo it out. He swears as he continues to fumble unsuccessfully.

Gaius brings a female guest to his home on the water--the one we've seen so many times. He is shocked to find Caprica Six already inside his home. He tells his lady friend to go upstairs, that he will be right there and then orders Six from his home.She seems completely nonplussed by his threats.He picks up the phone and tells her he's calling the police when she quietly discloses to him that she's taken care of his father. She's found a beautiful, upper-class old folks home where Gaius's father a former farmer, can even keep his own garden. She says when she took his father on a tour of the place he seemed happy. Gaius can only respond with his jaw hanging.

First, a few things about Islanded In a Stream Of Stars -

I was so excited to see Caprica Six and Gaius Baltar together in a scene again. For the first 2 years of the show they had a central role in the story. I knew not to hope for a reunion and have it all be sweetness and light but in the writer's ham-fisted way of making sure we knew that Caprica Six has grown and changed (we've had huge quantities of screen-time previously to know that, guys) the scene which could have resonated landed with a thud with a trite line or two from Caprica and Gaius--again rejected and feeling sad. Feh. You guys could have done better for both these actors! Disappointment!

 

So Chief went directly from almost being sucked out into space  to...the brig? Gotta wait and buy the DVD's to know how it went down.

I've just now been catching up with Bear's Battlestar Blog. He is the composer for the unique and incredible music of Battlestar Galcatica.

In his comments about Islanded In A Stream of Stars, which I consider to be the most awesome title of any BSG episode, he says the following which was a sort of "wth?" moment for me.

One of the biggest challenges of Islanded was actually scoring two different versions of it.  In addition to the version you just watched, I also scored an extended version for the DVD release.  Not only are many of the dialogue scenes expanded, but there are several scenes that were cut entirely from the show that required substantial original music.  One of these scenes established that Tyrol is now in the brig for his role in Boomer’s escape and kidnapping of Hera.  I was disappointed that this story point was cut from the episode, since Chief’s arc last week was so emotionally powerful.

So now we have the answer to "Where's Chief?" Damn, that's an awful ending for such a great character.
And he was so out of character in the previous eppy, "Someone To Watch Over Me." I've justified the rest of the Final Five acting oddly but when Chief clonked that innocent Eight over the head with a wrench in order to "save" Boomer? I was really shocked to the point of disbelieving as in I don't believe that Chief would have done such a thing. It hit an off-key note for me.

Every  episode has it's gems, though.
Tahmoh Penniket, I agree with Bear, did his most outstanding work ever in a Galactica scene, this one with Edward James Olmos. Completely heart-rending. Completely believable. On Tahmoh's part.

This episode was directed by Edward James Olmos and boy, is he generous with his own screen time--to the detriment of the story. Do we have to hear him trot out the canned responses he uses depending on to whom he's asserting his worldly wisdom? Gawds! I so wanted to punch him in the mouth after he told Helo that "they" have both lost a child!

Eddie: In this story you lost an adult child--nothing like losing your child of age three, your adult child eff'd up and killed himself, Hera was kidnapped. Your adult son died when? Six years ago now? More? It is not even worth mentioning again that you lost Zack unless this line was squeezed in to somehow serve the planned for 2010 spin-off of BSG, "Caprica." (I know spin-off is not the exact term, OK?)

Over the course of this series, I've gone from sort of being in awe of Olmos's acting chops to seeing that he's barely a one-note guy. He can play extreme emotion well. And he uses his gravelly voice to great effect when barking orders or doing one of his "So Say We All" speeches. But the ego on this man, especially when they let him direct. He is among their weakest directors, hands down (and I will double check on this--it's been four years, after all).

Moving on.

One of the most consequential series of scenes continued to revolve around Hera, Athena (Sharon Valeri) and Helo's daughter.

The show opened with her playing in CIC (!) with these models of ships that I'm sure you recognize. Hera ran the battlestar into the basestar and that, coupled with what Adama said about Galactica going out with a bang (paraphrase) is a really heavy-handed hint about how, ultimately the Galactica will meet her end. I really hope it doesn't happen that way.

 

Chief helped Boomer escape after finding out that she would probably be executed by the rebels for treason.

 

What Chief failed to discern was that Boomer used him. All she wanted was Hera. Smart Chief got a case of the dumbs. Here, Hera and Boomer are projecting into Boomer's Barbie Dream House.

 

This is where Boomer ended their journey--where Cavil has hidden the Cylon "Colony."

It appeared that Boomer bonded with Hera whilst kidnapping her. Gotta take this with a grain of salt as Boomer/the Eights is/are as we keep getting reminded, unpredictable/unstable.

Above: the memorial service for the dead who did not get sucked out in space. It's always amusing to watch reactions to Gaius's egotistical rantings.

This time, after testing the blood on dead Kara's dog tags (at her request) he announced to the entire group assembled for the memorial the results: Kara is an angel. What a jerk!

Summary

Now I can put this promo photo in it's proper perspective. It's not from "Someone to Watch Over Me" (last episode). It's from "Islanded In A Stream Of Stars"--and it's Boomer with the kidnapped Hera. Both of them are projecting into Boomer's dream home whilst in a Raptor on their way to rendezvous with Cavil at the Cylon home world, known as "the Colony."

Summary((BattlestarWiki): Sonja is one of the platinum blonde Sixes, similar in appearance to Caprica/Virtual (Head!) Six. She is elected to represent the rebel Cylons in the Fleet's new Quorum. Her first duty is to request the Cylons be given custody of Sharon Valerii in order to put her on trial for treason. Given her new posistion, the Colonials have accepted at least part of the deal the Cylons made through Tyrol and now have the representation they wanted in the Colonial Government. In this clip for next week we've got Adama barking at what looks like the entire populace of the Galactica, who have assembled on that huge,lower deck area, that he was taking volunteers to go on what is "likely to be, a one-way trip." Also there's the ever-helpful Head!Six explaining to Gaius that "the End Times are approaching." Pfft! Look around Six, they are already here! ;)

Oh, this is a nice little scene. Ellen and Saul disagreeing about his fundamental nature and their overall purpose in their life plan. As much as I like these two, I'm curious what has become of Caprica Six. She has been such a strongly identified player in the Battlestar Galactica universe that I'd hate to have her character left on that last note--which was her miscarriage of her and Saul Tigh's 4-month in-utero child.

In this scene Ellen goes on about Hera being the hope of the human-Cylon race but I can't help but wonder if she's being insensitive or just mean ol' Ellen considering Saul's recent loss of what would have been the  first pure Cylon child in a long time.

Evangeline Lilly of LOST Talks to Canadian TVGuide About Latest Departure-From-Series Rumours, Evolution of 'Kate and Sawyer'

LOSTt fans were in an uproar when reports alleged that Evangeline Lilly was leaving the show and auditioning for pilots that could launch this fall.

Her reps were quick to put out that fire, saying the story was absolutely false.

So TVGuide.ca decided to ask the actress herself, and hopefully, fans will be pleased by the answer.

“Why on Earth would I want to leave the best female role on television, in my humble opinion?” says Lilly with a laugh. “I’m happy at the show. The rumour started because the world was bored and they need a little drama, so they make things up, and that’s it; it’s very simple.”

Phew, right? The preview for the next episode of Lost has alluded to the long-awaited reunion of Kate and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), and Lilly dished on how she hoped it would go down, and what did indeed happen.

“For Evangeline, it was great fun because it’s been a long time since I worked with Josh, and it was great to have that reunion,” she reveals. “I was also nervous that they would write something that would undermine Kate’s character.

“The notion that she might come back to the island and start things up with Sawyer again after three years of being involved with Jack, I was very nervous that that would happen and warrant having to justify that. Because I’m the one who has to make that believable, and if you don’t believe it, then it’s hard to make other people believe it. But they didn’t do that.”

Lilly adds, “It’s a very intense thing for both of them; I don’t think Kate realized he was even alive still. The last time she saw him, he had jumped out of a helicopter, was swimming in an ocean, to an island that, minutes later, disappeared.

“So for all intents and purposes, Kate thinks he’s dead. She really is holding out a little measure of hope that he’s alive, but the skeptic and the realist within her is saying he’s dead. I'm hearing that he and Jin will be in that fabulously groovy decade for three whole years and that...wait for it...Jin might speak far better English now! Hooray for more Daniel Dae Kim screen time and multisyllabic words!

In re: LOST, are we ever going to see Richard Alpert in a scene with Mrs. Hawking? I feel like those two are Island gods who must know each other.

When we recently spoke to Fionnula Flanagan, she told us that she hasn't had any scenes yet with Nestor Carbonell, but, "Perhaps I have in some previous existence, or in some previous materialization of Mrs. Hawking, but it hasn't come to light yet." You'll note that doesn't rule out encounters between young Ellie (if that is Mrs. Hawking in an earlier life) and Richard Alpert in the past.
