I completely disagree with Scott Buck about it 'being time' for Dexter and Deb to be 'in love.'

He may just as well have said,"We were running outof ideas creatively so we thought we'd throw this at the audience. They'll be sure to tune in in droves, come season 7.'

Deb is IN LOVE with her brother?! Never in the six years (well, 5.75 yrs.) we watched them did they give any inkling whatsoever that she felt that way. That is so crap. And my guess is that little plot device is going to drop almost immediately next season since witnessing Dexter kill--in full kill garb at that, is going to blow all that navel-gazing bull out of her head. They just wanted to make very, very sure that we'll 'understand' why she doesn't turn him in. So unnecessary. Hall and Carpenter were/are fully convincing as sibs with familial love. I'm still fuming about it because it strikes such a discordant note (not because of potential 'incest') and does a disservice to the characters.
For me, the 'I'm in love with him' line was so bizarre that Deb witnessing Dex kill really did not do anything for me. Bah. Way to ruin 6 years of build-up.

I don't personally know the IMDb source of the narrative for DEXTER's season 6 finale but based on what I do know about the finale (and the Debra storyline, in particular), it makes good sense.

Does it make for good DEXTER, though? I'm not going to comment until I see it other than to say, that after I heard SPOILER that the big 'Oh my GOD!" moment happened in the last minute of the show END SPOILER, I surmised that it involved Debra seeing Dexter's Dark Passenger.

You'd have had to have slept through this season to not have seen the groundwork being layed with Dexter and Deb for the big reveal. It was pretty much paint-by-numbers. 1. Get Quinn out of the picture--out of Deb's life--making room for the 'Deb knows about Dex's Dark Passsenger' subplot for the next 2 seasons. 2. Underscore repeatedly that Dexter and Deb are veryclose. 3. Throw a bit of red herring into the mix to drive home to Deb that she really loves her brother--though she must realize at some point, not that way. 3. Have Deb and Dexter again working closely on a serial killer case leaving open the possiblity for...anything.

Batista is trying to get Quinn transferred, since he's been effing up so much lately. Quinn told Batista that he spoke with his union rep and he can just claim that he's got an alcohol problem and if he gets help, they can't get rid of him.

Though the package he sent to Dexter, an Ice Truck Killer souvenir, arrived the intern Louis story was left unresolved. His internship at the lab is almost over. He asks Musuka if there is any way he can stay on as a lab assistant, and Musuka tells him in his best Yoda voice that "finish his training he must" or something to that effect but says he'll send him stuff every once in awhile to keep his 'dick wet'. (Ew.)

Travis is shocked and angered to find out that Dexter is alive. Dexter tells him that he can't kill Harrison, "the lamb" and he has to kill Dexter ( the anti Christ) first or he won't complete his work before the eclipse/'end of  the world'. Travis asked Dexter if he has any of his needles with him and tells him to inject himself. 

Dexter agrees to inject himself with one of his needles if Travis puts Harrison on the elevator, which Travis does. Dexter appears to inject himself and pass out. Travis hovers over him to kill him and then Dexter knocks Travis out, and somehow manages to get a Harrison, still dressed as a lion and  Travis out of the building with no one noticing. Miami Metro shows up, only finding one dead cop (courtesy of Travis).

Q: What was the scene we saw in the promo where she tells Dexter she loves him?

A: It was at the beginning of the episode. Dexter gets home from his ordeal at sea which by the way HE DID NOT SWIM to shore. Anyway, Deb barges in to Dexter's apartment, blurting, OMG, we got a report that your boat washed up on shore." "Thank God you are okay; it's the second time in a few days that I thought you'd died.' 'I love you.' Dexter actually says "I love you, too" and Deb seems surprised and I think she says "Really?" After the encounter she barges in to her therapist's office confessing that she is 'in love' with Dexter.

In the last 60 seconds of the episode Debra actually sees Dexter stab Travis in the chest, and then Dexter sees Deb:

...in the abandoned church. Deb asked Dex earlier in the episode to do a final forensic sweep of the church. Dexter had mentioned to Jaimie when handing off Harrison that he had to work on a crime scene for Deb. So I think Deb must've dropped by Dexter's after talking to her therapist and Jaimie told her that Dexter was at some crime scene...and lo and behold, Deb meets Dex's Dark Passenger.

Dex is just completing his typical kill scene. He's got his rubber apron on and Travis is on the table, all plastic-wrapped, cheek-sliced and about to be knifed.

Deb, still near the entrance-way, witnesses the stabbing saying nothing, then Dex turns to see her and utters the last two words of the episode, 'Oh God.'

Ausiello: The deal is… you’ll have to wait until Season 7 to find out. Asked why he left the Louis (Josh Cooke) thread dangling in the finale, exec producer Scott Buck told me, “I think what we’re doing with Louis is setting him up for things to come.”

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble! In Season 4, “There are two factions at war: vampires and another fueled by witchcraft and power over the dead,” says creator Alan Ball. Battles go down and Sookie’s lightning-bolt-shooting  EDIT 'microwave' fingers/End EDIT strike again.

“We see her use her powers,” Ball says of Anna Paquin’s steel magnolia.

“Other people see that too, and it’s going to complicate things.” She’s not the only one releasing her inner magic.

Tara (Rutina Wesley) and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) get mixed up with Wiccan medium Marnie (Fiona Shaw).

And witches cast a spell on Eric (Alexander Skarsgård): “Sookie will see a different Eric,” Ball says, but she’s still feeling heat with Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Alcide (Joe Manganiello). Adds Ball, “From the Team Eric, Team Bill viewpoints, one of those teams will be happy, one won’t.”

 Moyer says that Season 4 is “very different. Everybody’s taken a real shift. Some time has passed, there are a lot of hierarchical shifts, and there’s a new bad influence in town.”

No doubt Snoop is pretty funny. He's always been good at getting his message across. I love the dancing "Sookies" in the background and that they are not all tiny in size. They don't even have to really work at being Sookie just dress up like her, throw on a blond wig vaguely styled in Sookie's signature Merlotte's 'do and bop around behind Snoop. Highly amusing. Hey! I've watched "Oh Sookie"  a couple time and I still don't know the exact word(s) that is/are bleeped out the one time that Snoop refers to Jason Stackhouse and  his versus Snoop's sexual prowess (I think).

Snoop Dogg likes "True Blood" star Sookie Stackhouse so much, he made a song and video about her. In "Oh Sookie," the West Coast hip-hop vet pays tribute to the HBO vampire drama's main woman (Anna Paquin), seducing her with player talk like, "I'll order you a gin and juice at Merlotte's," and, "Come close baby, I'm the dog that don't bite -- woof, woof." Snoop also makes a convincing case for why he'd make a better boyfriend than her immortal suitors, Bill and Eric. He won't make her drink his blood  and “We’ll do it in the daytime/Bill won’t know a thing,” he raps before a group of dancers dressed in blonde Sookie wigs and her signature Merlotte’s Daisy Dukes.

The lyrics, which demonstrate an impressive understanding of the show, spell out a comically sexual plea for Sookie to do bad things with him. OMG. LOL. That's pretty awesome. Snoop is a genuine fan of True Blood. I'm in the mom demographic with my youngest kid but my oldest is  in his 20's. We saw Snoop Dogg at Lollapalooza years ago. Snoop is very much a performer. He works it. Both he and HBO are savvy marketers which something I can really appreciate when it's done with style, in this case, Doggy Style. :)

... The video begins with Snoop pulling up to Merlotte’s in a tricked-out Cadillac with a personalized California license plate that reads “TRU PIMP.” He comes bearing gifts like “Tru Nutz” and proceeds to rap amongst a montage of True Blood clips and shots of Sookie look-a-like dancers.

This is truly a yummy, slice of pop culture. I love how confounding it is for people who are really unfamiliar with True Blood or with Snoop Dogg but are very familiar with one of them. They either get it or they don't and when they don't, they hate it. LOL. It's supposed to be funny --just like much of True Blood is. It really takes a light heart to enjoy this. To be able to laugh and to give Snoop props for the effort. It's a catchy tune.

The lyrics have numerous references to the show, such as Snoop recommending a Gin and Juice at Merlotte’... Sam Merlotte being a shape-shifter that Snoop sort of belows the belt by referring to him as a ‘bitch.’

Snoop helpfully suggests to Sookie  how she could discretely hook up with him. Chorus: "Oh Sookie, Let me get in your head. Oh Sookie, We can lay in the bed. Oh Sookie, Choose a player like me …We can do it in the daytime, Bill won’t know a thing." ... Snoop (also beckons Tara with): “Bring a friend. Matter of fact, bring your best friend: Tara. I got some real eggs for her to eat. And these eggs come with a whole lot of cheese and greens… ya dig?”

I think I took my last top down ride for the year--that was two in the first week of November.

People hesitate to buy a convertible whilst living in a place like here with less than ideal--crap--weather for a good chunk of the year. The answer is a) it's too fun not to, and b) you can do it 7 months of the year.

I realize I don't post _anything_ personal anymore. I remember enjoying interacting with the dozens of people I met online and regarded as friends. Now I think I need to "say something" before I blog and think if I wrote what I feel I'd offend so I self-censor. Conversely, if I don't write what I feel I get no feedback nor satisfaction having gotten it down.

Though I'm really looking forward to the series premiere of Nurse Jackie and the season 5 premiere of Weeds, on Showtime Monday night (June 8), not everyone has good taste in television shares my opinion. That's OK, as what a dull world it would be if they did right?

Here's a recent question that was posed to Ausiello with his (actually his intern's) answer:

Q: Weeds hasn't been good since Nancy torched Agrestic. Any chance that this season will be worth watching? 

Ausiello: I handed your question off EW to intern/Weeds addict Jeremy Medina, who just watched the first three episodes of the new season (premiering June 8). Here's what he said: "... I agree, last season was easily the series' worst -- up until the finale shocker that revealed Nancy's pregnancy. Season 5 starts off with the fallout from that announcement. 

Her family is (angry). Even Andy, who loves her. Nancy basically acknowledges she's a terrible human being, but then proceeds to act like even more of one. She dumps Shane off to live with her volatile sister (Jennifer Jason Leigh) because he isn't safe at home. She even purposely gets drunk to antagonize her Mexican drug lord boyfriend, simply because it’s the last card she can play in her epic power struggle. What will continue to make the season worth watching is to see if Nancy can win back a shred of dignity. She needs to have some sort of redemptive arc to make the show compelling again. Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen."

That's a pretty pessimistic prognostication but I'm wondering if the show may be shifting to more of the spotlight toward Andy Botwin, Nancy's brother-in-law (ex bro-in-law, actually as Nancy is widowed)? His recent series of "The University of Andy" has brought Justin Kirk front and center where he seems quite comfortable. One more  U of Andy vid. Watch the 30 min. Weeds and 30 min. Nurse Jackie back-to back staring at 9 pm. Monday night on SHOWTIME. I am.

Your first day on Twitter can be rough. Twittering's still a brand new thing to a lot of people, and a lot of people have Twitterfails. Nobody on Twitter on Friday, though, got as much attention as Oprah, who tweeted for the first time.

Sadly, her inaugural tweet was all in caps. Thankfully, Shaquille O'Neal was there to remind the talk show host that her caps were on. We'd like to congratulate Shaq for having Oprah's back. That's what Twitter friends do for each other. Credit CNET

Dexter Marries His Sister Deb!

After watching three seasons of Dexter, one of cable's very best shows, I was wondering how in Season Four, which sadly is some time away, it could maintain it's killer level of entertainment.

I've been enthralled with Dexter since Season 1, E1, "Dexter"  having started watching Dexter beginning with the premiere based solely on Michael C. Hall's work as "David Fisher" in HBO's brilliant (but sometimes grating) Six Feet Under.

After all these years of watching him I would have thought I'd see him give away something when he looked at his real-life love while she was literally acting as his sister.

I totally never saw this coming on Michael C. Hall's side, but what I've mentioned a couple times over the recently finished Season 3 to my spouse and son with whom I have a standing weekly date to watch Dexter, is that Jennifer Carpenter keeps getting better--looking great and growing incredibly as an actress. Now I see that she's only age 29 so must have started "Dexter" around age 25-26. I noted that Jennifer had sort of taken on the role in a way in which it seemed she felt really comfortable in her skin. I'm guessing dating "the sexiest man alive" has helped her grow into the role--of big-sister, Deb. Eep. She's only 29 and he's 37. That it hasn't been glaring obvious is a huge credit to Michael C. Hall's seemingly eternal youthfulness.

I :heart: Jennifer Carpenter. I'm so happy for them both but honestly just a tiny bit weirded out. I'll get over it, obviously (or will I?) but the newlyweds really must share some weddings shots so we can really picture them as Mr. and Mrs. Hall. Please and thank you. (Big Sur! Yummy, though it is rainy season and the winds get pretty stiff there. Still, a beautiful backdrop for nuptials.)

A quick Wikipedia check says that a video card is also know as a display adapter and graphics accelerator, as well as other terms.  A video card refers to a dedicated expansion card. OK, this is the first point I think I really  "got." You need to use an expansion card as a hardware add-on with the function of generating  and outputing images to a display. Nifty, huh?

Did you know I see a shrink once every 3 months? Now you do. I saw him today. I never stay longer than 5 minutes. He makes upwards of $100 for 5 minutes though I think he can only squeeze in maybe 6 patients per hour, leaving the rest for quickly-scrawled mandatory paperwork. Dx: Depression w/anxiety though I think I've had a handle on the depression for about 5 years now. Prior to that other long stretches as well. First time I've been diagnosed with anxiety but it practically ruled my life prior to the heart failure. (Yes, I've wondered if there was a connection as my heart failure was of unknown causes (kinda spooky, not knowing). Anyway Dr. P. is doing medication management--but forgot to ask about that today. ;)

I'm not sure if I over-shared this. The Lake had more rain this summer and spring past than it's had in 70 years. That's' before my dad--who is the patriarch--started going up there--before the cottages were built.

Battlestar Galactica: Jamie Bamber Speaks--Is Apollo Going To Die?

Here's a few minutes of video of Jamie Bamber most recently "Apollo"/"Lee Adama" of Battlestar Galactica talking to teevee gossip reporter Kristen at the TV critics press tour. Bamber does make some observations about the final half season of BSG, but understandably, seemed much more enthused about his brand new project: Law & Order: London in which he'll play "a cop."

Bamber described the writing of the last of the Battlestar Galactica series in superlatives, however. He disclosed that the last scenes he filmed were with the second camera unit, sans other BSG actors, using extras. He describes the scenes as "running around shooting things."

When asked if he'd return for a Battlestar Galactica mini-series, he emphatically shook his head, "no," going on to explain that he feels that the story of his character has finished being told. Kristen picked up on this and asked if his BSG character is killed off but he would not confirm or deny.

Though Katee Sackoff has often been the brunt of criticism for her portrayal of  Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, I've always enjoyed the way she can realistically plumb the depths of emotion as an actress as well as her character's fearlessness and selflessness towards her crewmates.

Bamber's Apollo, OTOH, has often been whiny and sullen--two traits that I have trouble enjoying play out onscreen. Part of the problem surely, was how his character was written: resentful son who was never "good enough," with the shadow of his father, Admiral Adama looming large over him. Again, being brutally honest my opinion of Bamber is that he never really "wore" the character well. He seemed uncomfortable in the role. Hardest for me in re: this actor was his generic American accent. I understand that it must be quite difficult to drop his European accent--plus he has his mixed bag of dialect influences: His father--an American attorney out of Detroit, his mother, an Irish actress, his first seven years of life growing up in France, and the UK as his home (more or less) since. But Bamber's accent was dry of any regional inflection at all and it always distracted me when he'd hit a particular word or phrase that sounded forced and very unnatural with the result that it took me as the viewer out of the scene. As a classically trained actor, one would think this would be the very last impression Bamber would want to give. But there you are.

 I doubt that Jamie Bamber would agree with this but I think the pinnacle of his television career has been reached. I mean, he's very enthused about yet another spin-off of: Law & Order: London???

I sincerely do wish him well but I think he hasn't yet gotten the perspective that Battlestar Galactica was the best television he'll ever do--even though Lee "Apollo" Adama wasn't the best rendered character on the series.

Must keep the unibrow at bay!

Today I drove top down through the countryside in the sweltering sauna that was this part of the world purely for vanity --to get my roots touched up before taking off to go up north. I only see the folks  that I do once a year--so yeah, don't want them counting back and remembering how old I am even though they know exactly how old I am. Vanity...a very stubborn trait for me. I don't even quit with the eyebrow plucking up there. Really silly standing around tweezing when the outdoors is calling but must keep the unibrow at bay!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be an extra on a set of a major movie? Last night, while I was surfing around looking for the latest on the Michael Mann-directed film, Public Enemies, I found a page which I'll reproduce in part to give you a glimpse into the straight jacket-world of being an extra.

Public Enemies is a “period” feature film, circa early 1930s. You know what this means period hair styles and wardrobe fittings – guys please keep your hair long – do not cut it!! Women will need to have period hair styles – Everyone that will be cast will need to attend a wardrobe fitting. The fitting usually takes a few hours – you’ll be fit in an outfit and also be looked at by the hair department. Haircuts will most likely happen at the wardrobe fitting. The fitting usually happens a week or so before your day on set...

So essentially, for a lousy-paying job if you are a man your cannot cut your hair. I suppose then you also cannot keep a day job that requires you to be clean-cut.

I am also looking for people (non-speaking roles) that will be able to work many days. So let me know if this might be you!; I’m also searching for people that might be available for one or two days. These are paid extras positions. Rate TBD. Being that this is a period film we need to find people that are able to fit into the period wardrobe. There are size requirements

MEN need to 6’1” and under and WOMEN 5’8” and under (no larger than a size 12), all ages (including children) in order to be considered.

 

Wow, this lady must have done her homework. I never knew that in 1934 the average woman was no larger than a modern size 12! Good thing for the lady extras that, despite Public Enemies being "a period piece," the ladies clothing she describes are modern size 12's and not 1934 size 12's. The rough equivalent of a 1934 size 12 Ladies to today's size 12 Ladies is: 1934 Size 12 equals today's size 8-10.

KIDS: I only consider casting kids that have current work permits on file with (xxxxx Casting). Casting children goes down fast. I mean super fast. They might call me the night before a shoot and ask for a child of a certain age. I run to my kids’ files and pull any child that has a work permit. Don’t miss out because your child doesn’t have a work permit!

 

Calling all stage parents!

And gee, who knew that the casting lady "just run(s) to her kids’ files and pull(s) any child that has a work permit?" See, it's really not that hard to land a job in a Hollywood picture. It's just matter of casting closing their eyes and grabbing.

We start shooting in mid-March and shoot through June 2008. I will be holding open casting calls soon! Stay tuned. We will be shooting in Chicago and on location in Wisconsin.

In others words, you’d best be on the edge of your seat—and stay there or in more modern parlance keep your cellphone on your person at all times and make sure the battery is charged.

Who are the types of people I cast to be extras? Nice people. People that act professionally on set. People that I meet who are courteous and pay attention at casting calls. It takes a patient, attentive, nice, punctual, respectful person to do well on a film set. I know because I’ve met many. MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE who work as extras.

This boils down to BE NICE! If you are not NICE do not darken casting’s door.

All I ever hear from every film I’ve ever cast is how nice the extras are. This is huge! Seriously, you guys should be proud. I know I am. A prepared and wonderful person working as an extra makes for a great experience for all—from the wardrobe department to the locations department—from the Assistant Directors, to the actors. The crew notices!

In addition to being NICE you also should be both PREPARED and WONDERFUL.

You can be a person that has never been on a film set in their life and be an extra. One day, regular person, next day… oh, my gosh, on a movie set!!

But only if you are willing to be NICE, PREPARED and WONDERFUL. Because…

It can be a wonderful, life-changing experience.

See! It’s worth being be NICE, PREPARED and WONDERFUL.

It can also be incredibly boring.

R’oh, r’oh.

Mind-numbingly boring as you sit in the holding area (an area where the extras hang out while waiting to go to set).

This is starting to sound really unappealing. Maybe it’d be better to go to the local opening night?

There are some sets where you might be in holding for hours and hours before you get out on set. Heck, back in the day when I was doing extra work, I sat in the holding area for two entire days and I never even got out on set.

Sweet how she talks about back in her starving uh, casting director days.

She hung. A lot.

I said hello to the person on my right, and I said hello to the person on my left.

Then she turned herself around…

And then I laughed my head off for two straight days

And went completely insane. How fun!

—see, life is what you make it. Make a friend, or be miserable. Your choice.

That’s it? Only two choices in life?! Two?????

That’s the beauty and magic of film making!

I picture neither beauty nor magic when I read her description of life as an extra. But that’s just me.

The secret to being a successful working extra: Have a great attitude and be prepared! Bring a book for those times you are hanging in the holding area. Bring some snacks. Aside from the delicious lunch served about halfway through the day, don’t count on being fed at other times. I never did. You need to take care of yourself. Be smart. Bring a few drinks (um, not that kind). If you are working outside and it’s hot and sunny, wear sunscreen! If it’s freezing, layer what you can under your outfits. Bring hand and feet warmers. Are you starting to get it?

I think I got it back when you recounted the two "straight" days of hysterical laughter.

A normal film day lasts 12 hours and sometimes even hours longer. You need to be available the entire day/night. There’s no cutting out early, ever! (kids under 16 work fewer hours). If you are cast on a shoot you need to prepare yourself that you will never know when your day will be over. No one knows.

It sounds so not worth it. There has got to be a better route to breaking into showbiz!

 

Never ask on set, or at a wardrobe fitting, when you can go home – this is quite the uncomfortable question and will make you look ill-prepared (you want to be in the know – a rock star!) Please don’t ask. You’ll get some not-so-nice looks. Believe it or not, everything gets back to me. Instantly. Something happens on set with an extra and…

(goes on at length about how intrusive it is when an extra annoys someone important on set.)

***Things change constantly on films. This is so important to know. If you are cast for a particular shoot date, this date might change many times before you actually find yourself on set. Flexibility is key!

 

So here’s the scoop, people!

If you want a job with no security, horrendously long hours—both day and night—or conversely, no work whatsoever for long stretches, a job that can be deathly boring for extended periods, a job in which you will be made to stay in a holding area (wonder if that used to be called “pen”?), in other words if you want a craptastic job in the film industry in which you have no hope of being anything more than what you are—an “extra”—then this may be the job for you!

I’d like to give a “shout out” to all the fantastic extras I know—avert your eyes to the above as you already know all this and do fabulously well on set!

I dunno. I’d suggest “avert(ing) your eyes” for the entire page.

Working as a film extra is a challenge when shoot dates change – I realize that you guys go to great lengths to take off work, get babysitters, switch your lives around to be out on our sets. It’s appreciated.

Wow. Just wow. Someone explain to me why anyone would want to be an extra for more than say, once?

Hey Peeps,

In the spirit of TMI, here I am in the sleep lab about 20 hours ago, 12 electrodes on my head and many more on other parts, including my legs. Yes, I had to ask dude that was watching me on the monitor to unplug me so I could wee.

I'm about to hop in the shower now to try and get the remnants of last night's adventure out of my hair. You can see a white dot peeking out of my hair--that's a  glue-like substance keepin' the wire stuck to my head 'cos how else are they gonna keep it there?

Anyway, it went well 'cept I only slept for 90 minutes total. But that was enough for the sleep monitor dude to say that I'm completely fine which is what I already knew. Silly Drs. and their silly, expensive tests. At least I got this done after I met my insurance deductible for the year.

I was sprung form the sleep clinic in time to miss morning traffic. Came home to all my sleepyheads just up--a sight I rarely see--and I'm kinda glad I don't. lol.

So off I go. This gluey sitch must be remedied. Now.

"I'm sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl," Timberlake said. "It was not intentional and is regrettable."

(Everyone but Timberlake rolls on floor laughing uncontrollably. He'll do that off-camera.)

I have a strong dislike for Viacom's stance in this. They chose MTV (the owner of both MTV and CBS) to put together the Super Bowl half-time show and then feigned shock and surprise when the "performers" got raunchy.

Worse than Viacom et al, are media/others that fob all the responsibility on and call into question the morality of Ms. Jackson. Fine, call her a ****, but if you do so you'd best include Viacom and Timberlake. She didn't pull this stunt off on her own.

And please. Get it right. Her breast was not "nude." She wore a pastie.
