Ausiello: Yes. Producers have quietly begun looking
for a 6-year-old boy to play a 4-year-old boy throughout S8, which makes
me wonder if Harrison is going to experience a growth spurt between
seasons.

The countdown to Dexter‘s endgame has begun.
The Showtime serial killer thriller will introduce two major recurring characters in its upcoming eighth and likely, final season — and both could spell trouble for Dex and Deb.
First up is Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals (like, perhaps, the one who murdered LaGuerta?).
This particular character's job description and roughly, age (and sex) made me think of Dr. Kay Scarpetta in the Patricia Cornwell series.
The show is also on the hunt for a 40ish actor to play Jacob Elroy, a handsome and straightforward former cop who now runs his own private eye business. GUESSES: Angel (or Tom?!) hires him to find out who killed his ex-wife/ex-partner-in-crime.
Dex and Deb are doomed to be found out if she and 'Jacob' start dating. He's her type, older and 'in the business.' I think, sooner or later Deb will be the one to crack and spill both her and Dexter's secret.
But I can totally see Dex attempting to take the fall for his sister though and vehemently dissuading her from doing the same for him. Just the same, I see him always feeling what he does is just and worthy, though he understands how vastly different a murderer like himself is from someone who has never done so.
The concluding season of Dexter is can't miss TV. It ought to be a total ride.
In case you missed it: Sample a full episode of Dexter. Here. Now.
Executive Producer Scott Buck discusses the season 7 finale.
Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall in the season 7 finale of Dexter ( Cr: Showtime)
Despite Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) momentous decision in the penultimate episode 11 to turn evidence over to the cops, which leads to Hannah's (Yvonne Strahovki) arrest for the murder of Sal Price, it turns out that Hannah is really the least of Dexter's worries in the season finale.
Instead, Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) arrests Dexter for the murder of Hector Estrada, and it rattles her so that she refuses to look at him as she Mirandizes him. She's making a major move here. Despite Dexter's coworkers at the station's shock and disbelief, they'd feel even more so if they knew that Dexter set up everything to look like LaGuerta is trying to frame him — and since she was involved in expediting Estrada's release from prison, no one will trust her judgment now--effectively stopping her cold in her search for the true Bay Harbour Butcher. Or one would think.
Much as she has seemed to reach a hundred dead ends in her pursuit of the truth, LaGuerta forges on, deciding this time to go after Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), uncovering the gas station surveillance tapes that show Deb filling up a gas can near the church where Travis (Colin Hanks) died and evidence was destroyed in a petroleum-fueled fire. This could prove what the single blood slide could not--that Debra helped Dexter cover up the serial killer's murder.
After Deb informs Dex about how deep they both are in muck with LaGuerta, Dex searches LaGuerta's home and finds she has obtained a warrant for the GPS on Dexter and Deb's phones, which will then prove the Morgan siblings were both at the church during the fire. (cont.)
Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and Lauren Velez in the season 7 finale of Dexter ( Cr: Showtime)
At this point, Dexter has a big decision to make--whether or not to flee, or as Harry puts it, abandon the code and "kill an innocent." Dexter refuses to run, saying he is standing his ground using the slippery, still alive Estrada as bait, tracking the ex-con down and returning to the familiar dock-side shipping container. He extracts his vengeance on Estrada, the man who ordered the hit on his mother, as he waits for LaGuerta (who he has Estrada call and who is hurrying on her way), by stabbing him in the chest.
But then, as she did in the season 6 finale, Debra interferes with her brother's plan. Again, Dexter finds himself staring down the barrel of his sister's gun. *Poof* goes Dexter's plan to set up and murder LaGuerta, who arrives as orchestrated, making it look like she and Estrada killed each other in a gun fight.
Debra arrives as a drugged up, semi-conscious LaGuerta is coming around. She begs Deb to do the right thing, to 'put him down.' Dexter then makes his plea using reverse psychology telling Deb that LaGuerta is right, Deb's a good person and, stealing Hannah's line as Dexter was about to put her down, tells Deb, 'Do what you gotta do.'
A shaking Deb doesn't surprise us as she chooses her brother not to kill as Dexter previously chose his sister over his lover, Hannah. She puts a bullet in LaGuerta. (It was recounted that Jennifer Carpenter as Deb improvised the scene that followed her killing LaGuerta. I think she was brilliant--to me, this is as shattering as Dexter discovering Rita in the bathtub (season 4 finale, Trinity murder).
Deb then breaks down, sobbing over the dead LaGuerta. Later, we see Dex (still wearing his kill shirt) and Deb arriving arm-in-arm at Angel's (David Zayas) New Year's/Retirement party, still dazed from the chaos and carnage.
"Is this a new beginning or the beginning of the end?"
Dexter ponders in voiceover.
It seems a sure bet we'll get that answer in Dexter's final season next fall.

It's time now to make your best guess as to how Dexter season 7 will wrap up.
Last week, after discovering that Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) attempted to murder his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), Dex (Michael C. Hall) took decisive action after lab results from a water bottle he found in Deb's wreaked car showed the water to be 40% spiked with prescription medication that knocked Deb out while she was at the wheel of her car. He retrieved the poison pen that Hannah used to kill Sal Price, the 'true crime' writer, and turned it over to Deb so she could bring charges against Hannah for his murder. The episode closed on a solemn note with Hannah declaring as they cuffed her that Dex 'should've killed (her)'.
I have to say, I felt greatly relieved as Dexter was behaving entirely as I would think he would given the great closeness he has with Debra. I never questioned that he would 'choose' Deb over Hannah but it wasn't clear until it came to a matter of life and death. Interesting too, how Dex echoed Deb's own words about keeping company with Hannah: "You'll never be safe."
The season would seem to be wrapped up save for one very important detail: Sgt. LaGuerta's (Lauren Velez) dogged determination to clear her former lover, cop, and Dexter nemesis, James Doakes (Erik King) of the moniker of having been the "Bay Harbor Butcher.' As we saw, she narrowed the possible suspects down to Dexter and despite finding evidence to the contrary which implicated Doakes (and which she correctly suggested Dexter could have planted) and assuring her former boss Tom Matthews (Geoff Pierson) that she would cease and desist, she continues in the season finale at full steam ahead in her efforts to take Dexter down.
How far will she go? Are the promo photos and sneak peeks which indicate that Dexter is arrested real or are they a fantasty or recollection like this is?:
James Doakes (Erik King) appears in the season 7 finale of Dexter on Showtime December 16
And what about Hannah? She knows Dexter's big secret. He must have considered that she would tell the cops what she knows--and that, coupled with what LaGuerta thinks she knows would seem to be all that is needed to seal Dexter's fate.
Finally, what is Debra going to do? as Hannh rightly points our, debra is being selective in her pursuit of justice by arresting Hannah and but Allowing dexter to remain free? Will Deb's conscience get the better of her and will she free Hannah? This screen shot would seem to imply that something big happens as Hannah is out of shakles and outside Dexter's apartment!

Update: TVGuide Dexter SPOILER:
Q: Will Hannah turn in Dexter during the DEXTER finale?
A: That will be the big question of the hour. But Michael C. Hall says Dexter may come to regret turning her in for more than one reason.
"I think he was open to a sense of possibility and open to a sense of a
legitimate future in a way that he never has been before and that's not
going to be an easy thing to dismiss," he says. "He believes that
Hannah does love him and will keep his secret. He, if nothing else,
believes she'll do it out of a sense of self-righteousness, that she was
able to keep secrets in a way that he couldn't."

Season 7 Dexter is really keeping me guessing as to where the "new
Dexter," now sans his Dark Passenger, is headed. In this Sunday's episode, Debra zigs when she should've zagged, it's Christmastime in Miami and things for Dexter and Hannah continue to
roll along nicely--until a large bump in the road threatens to derail
their future together.

Q: Wow, Dexterkilled Hannah's father. What won't he do for her on Dexter? A: He probably wouldn't
look the other way if she tried to kill one of his family members — and
considering that Deb is his only family, it should come as no surprise
that Dexter will look askance when she gets into a very
suspicious-looking car accident. Will he ever be able to have a future
with Hannah now? On the bright side, Dexter will try to put the kibosh on LaGuerta and Matthews' investigation into the Bay Harbor Butcher — but that doesn't mean Maria has really given up.

Just caught up and watched this episode. Turns out that Hannah's
father is pretty much what you'd expect of a guy who was OK with letting
his daughter (almost) drown as a young child.
Some major attitude adjusting continues to go on between Deb and Dex.
Debra makes Dex a promise in regard to Hannah McKay but how far that
promise will extend into the future remains an open question. In fact,
there are several 'open questions,' with Laguerta's re-investigation of
the Bay Harbour Butcher case and her bringing her old boss Tom, on-board
to help with the case, probably the most compelling, not including the Dex-Deb-Hannah situation. What a mess!
It seems that the heat is going to remain on 'high' all the way through the finale--which is soon!

Dexter arrives at the hospital to see Hannah.
When Isaak Circo (Ray Stevenson) learned that the Koshka gang sent two experienced hitmen to kill him, he approached Dexter with an offer to help him kill them in exchange for calling off their blood feud. Dexter initially declined, but agreed once Circo kidnapped Hannah to increase his leverage. It ... gave rise to a strange and entertaining alliance between the two gentleman killers.
As it turned out, they each held true to their side of the bargain. Dexter put his serial-killing skills to good use and quickly took out the first hitman at a rifle range. Isaak did not betray Dexter as he led the second assassin onto a Koshka-owned barge, Circo came through, and gunned the guy down from above.
A short moment of victory then George Novikov (Jason Gedrick), Isaak's fed up second-in-command, showed up and shot Isaak in the stomach. Declining going to the hospital, Isaak pretty much accepted his situation--that he was going to die, and asked Dexter to take him out on his boat so he could be cast away to sea with his dead lover, Victor. Issak being Issak that meant that he would have one last philosophical discussion about 'love' with Dexter as well.
Ray Stevenson, by turns super smooth and super-scary, did the Isaak character beautifully. He may have been the most complex and sane of all the Dexter villains.
Who is that in the background with Hannah? If you have been paying close attention you should be able to piece together a guess! I'll give you a big huge clue after the jump in one of the photos below!

Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) finally comes clean to Dex about her (pre-catching him serial killing in the church) feelings about him, albeit in a way that I wouldn't have chosen. (They were foster kids in the same foster family.) I get how they only have one another and she was very dependent and looked up to him all her life--that there would be sibling 'love'--but even off-screen, this stuff sometimes happens.

Yvonne Strahovski as 'Hannah McKay' on DEXTER 'Do The Wrong Thing' on SHOWTIME
If you tuned into SHOWTIME'S two marquee series last night you don't need no stinking recap for them. One writer though, Drusilla Moorehouse, actually has a witty style of writing (and a sharp eye for details for what she's recapping) which makes her day-after blogs stand out from most of the rest. Even she however, missed what I consider to be the worst moment in the 7-year history of Dexter.
DEXTER/'Dexter' (Michael C. Hall) is deliciously twisted-- a big part of our fascination with the show. He has also been pretty asexual, which set up a sort of innocent paradox to his serial-killer persona.
Casting former "Chuck" fanboy goddess Yvonne Strahovski,to play Dexter's prey seemed pretty awesome--if Dex hadn't decided, after trussing her up on a kill table, to nix knifing her through the heart and instead untruss her with his knife and go all stabby with his throbbing member.
Of couse, being a 'sick fuck,' as his sister Deb might call her, 'Hannah McKay' was aroused by her near-death experience with Dexter and intiated the use of sex as a weapon. But, it was way too rape-like for me. It was repulsive and seemed written for cheap shock value. In three words: I hated it.
Here's a short bit from Moorehouse's 'Do The Wrong Thing' recap which you should read in it's entirety by clicking the link that follows it:
Meanwhile, Hannah gets her own flirt on with Dexter, dropping by his apartment with a more appropriate house plant: a spotted phalaenopsis, an orchid whose coloring resembles blood spatter. Placing it in his bedroom, Hannah says provocatively, "Now you can look at it when you wake up and when you go to bed." No wonder she agrees to Dexter's offer to "take [her] out," although she definitely expects the evening to end differently. Or maybe not. "This is what I need to fill my emptiness," marvels Hannah at a closed-down carnival where Dexter had surprised her, a substitute for Santa's Holiday Adventure, where Wayne promised to take her during their crime spree. Instead, she wakes up on Dexter's killing table. And as he holds a knife to her throat, she says fearlessly, "Do what you gotta do." And did he ever.
Killer Quotes"Something planty." --Dexter, when Hannah asks what kind of décor he's looking for "Don't be a cop tease," Deb when Sal hints at his theory about Hannah "I'd really like to avoid killing anyone in here -- they can get in the way of my being released," Isaak, warning George to get him out of jail "Guess I'm maybe kind of a morbid guy" --Dexter
Damian Lewis and Claire Danes star in HOMELAND on Showtime
Last night's episode of HOMELAND was far superior to anything Dexter was offering, despite the nit-picking going on with reviewers who, since they can't find much to criticize about the near-perfect offering, are instead seeking out 'experts in field' to debunk how the real CIA and FBI would do things and how the show, you know, isn't like real life. Note to all of you: It is precisely that reason why we watch television dramas--we get enough real-life in our every breathing moment not watching television. Remember, escapism is fun. Small children call it 'pretending'--it's really quite OK and in the hands of Homeland's makers quite excellent.
Here's a short excerpt from Moorehouse's 'A Gettysburg Address' recap which you should read in it's entirety by clicking the link that follows it:
...So Carrie summons Brody back to Langley to help out, where he admits to killing Bassel the tailor. While a forensics team plans to search his shop, the CIA orders Brody to meet with Roya. This time the task force manages to listen to the entire conversation ... or so it seems.
When Roya bristles at Brody initiating contact, he tells her that he's sleeping with Carrie, at her suggestion, and overheard Carrie mentioning Hezbollah during a phone call. Roya tells Brody she knows about Gettysburg (the mole strikes again?) and hints that they might find something in the tailor's shop. The task force is unnerved by an extended period of silence between the two -- ostensibly because of a bystander. But could they be communicating via other signals? Remember, this is the guy whom Carrie caught tapping out code on national TV "when everyone else was calling him the patriot of the century."
While Carrie stays in Washington, Quinn (Rupert Friend) joins the Gettysburg group. He's just about to discover Bassel the tailor's secret hiding place behind a wall when Hezbollah agents brazenly storm the shop, open fire on the agents, tear down the wall and walk out with a giant crate of no good.
In her grief and rage, Carrie confronts Rep. Brody at his office -- who of course denies any involvement in a setup. In the end, the anguished CIA agent ends up sobbing in his arms -- consoled by the man who not only murdered the Gettysburg tailor and almost detonated one of his suicide vests, but may have played a role in the latest attack.

Whichever side you come down on with the storyline developing with Dexter and Hannah, be prepared for some wicked twists and turns. I've heard rumor that Yvonne Strahovski, who plays Hannah McKay may be signing on for Dexter's final season--which is next season (8). That makes me quite conflicted because as much as I'm warming up to--or at least intrigued by the character, I'm fervently hoping she won't be taking the place of someone like say, Dexter's sister (Jennifer Carpenter). Carpenter has given a tour de force performance this season, hands down her best one yet and I would hate, hate, hate if this were to be her last season. I guess it all remains to be seen. Gotta be patient and see where the bloody chips fall and remember that nothing official has been announced (yet). Gah.

Dexter strongly resists the idea, arguing that he--Dexter can best raise and protect his son, no one else. It's fun to watch Debra go through stages of gaining some slight acceptance of the knowlege that her brother is a serial killer and then swings all the way to 'no way in hell' can she allow Dexter to kill one more person. Despite her shifting feelings she will ultimately pick a side but she cannot ever feel good about it.
Spoiler hint for episode 704 Dexter 'Run.'
Dexter gives up something precious in this episode.
I am an episode ahead in viewing Dexter and am really intrigued by the Dex/Hannah budding relationship. Something totally inverted from what I expected happened involving the two. It really was executed nicely, turning some rather plot-heavy tables on one of them.
Hannah is 'off' somehow. Her affect is...wooden. Now she speaks of 'rumour' that Dexter was the last person to speak to Wayne before his suidice by Mack truck. Why does she care, given especially what Wayne had told Dexter-- that Hannah wanted nothing to do with him? Strange. Why does she wish to know his last words and re-live something she said she was 'trying to put behind' her?

She's been called "Dexter's new obsession"(!) Enjoy these (non-spoiler) promotional photos from Episode 7.03-7.05 of Yvonne Strahovski ('Hannah McKay'):
Jennifer Carpenter as Lt. Debra Morgan on DEXTER Episode 7.03 'Buck The System' on Showtime Sunday nights (Credit:Randy Tepper/Showtime)
Thus far this season, DEXTER has felt reenergized and this week's episode (7.03, "Buck The System") continues with the same great feeling that the show is fired up on all cylinders and burning brightly.
As a long-time Dexter fan, I'm thrilled with the powerhouse performances of Jennifer Carpenter as the now severely distressed Debra alongside the quiet intensity of Michael C. Hall in the title role as serial killer Dexter. In addition, the supporting cast seems to have caught hold of the same energy boost as they each seem to have found their groove for season 7.
The guest stars are intriguing and/or truly menacing and with the addition this week of the lovely Yvonne Strahovski as 'Hannah McKay' and in episodes to come (scroll down for synopses of upcoming episodes that give us some idea of where she'll fit in the the over-arching storyline), it appears the pieces are in place for a memorable season 7!

Synopsis DEXTER SEASON 7 – “Buck The System” - Episode 7.03:
Dexter tries to bring Debra on-board with his new target, while the Ukrainian mob seeks revenge for the killing of one of their own. Quinn grows close to a dancer at the mob’s strip club, and LaGuerta attempts to enlist Batista to help her with re-opening the case of the Bay Harbor Butcher, who she believes is still out there.

Season 7, Episode 2
Episode Synopsis:
When a local convict claims he has new information regarding a
fifteen-year-old crime spree, Miami Metro sets out to unearth new
evidence on the case. While Debra attempts to cure Dexter of his killer
tendencies, the Mike Anderson case leads to the Ukrainian mob, and a
vengeful Louis won’t stop meddling with Dexter’s life.
So by now you, me, Dex and Deb have all somehow survived the immediate aftermath of Deb walking in on Dexter in mid-kill. That was one of the most fraught-with-tension moments in all of Dexter, I think. Debra, though severely shaken, managed to keep her wits about her even as the scene before her and how Dexter explained it just wasn't making any logical sense. Any wonder that this is only the beginning of the Dex and Deb dance that will continue for the foreseeable future? Gone is the sometimes bumbling Officer Deb of old, replaced by Lt. Morgan, who has not only justifiably gained confidence in her abilities but now has the power to destroy Dexter's world, a thought that would have never entered her mind prior to her gruesome discovery. She did after all surprise him at the church because she wanted to confess being 'in love' with him. (Sidenote/small SPOILER: Dexter EP's have confirmed that by mid-season Dex and Deb will have had (some permutation of) 'the discussion' that Deb had intended to have with her brother prior to the 'big reveal.'
Dexter however, has not really altered his perception of anything. Within seconds of being discovered and with decades of wearing a facade of a non-sociopath, Dexter snaps into course-correct mode, making excuse after excuse for what Deb is witnessing, many of which seem entirely plausible--unless you are blowing smoke at Deb the bulldog, who is not gonna let go of this bone until she fully wraps her head around it and when she deems that the pieces now fit. Dexter was beginning to think he was getting a handle on the damage control that was mandatory after being caught, literally red-handed, but the very final moments in the premiere episode begged a very different question.
Stayed tuned for episode 2 which is even more mind-blowing that the premiere episode!
The new season of Dexter feels like another 'Trinity' or season 1 or two. Very brisk, the acting is primo (as always) as actors who seemed underused are getting more screen time doing pretty cool, interesting things. All-in-all Season 7 offers us a genuinely re-energized Dexter.
Oh yeah.
Dexter is now talking to Deb about his 'Dark Passenger!'
Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall in Dexter, premiering on Showtime Sunday Sept. 30 (Credit: Showtime)
Just hearing those words tumbling from his mouth, rather than his thoughts via Michael C. Hall's ubiquitous (and exceptionally listenable) voice-over is weirdly creepy.
Jennifer Carpenter is being given some serious screen time as Dex's sister Debra, grappling yet again with some seriously fucked-up shit. The most serious ever, to be precise.
Part of Deb's and Dex's world's have just ceased to exist. Deb screams at Dex after yet another gut-wrenching revelation by him, 'I will never be OK!' In fact, in the first couple days in the aftermath of Deb's discovery of Dexter's murderous streak, Deb remarks to him that Dex 'is a sick fuck,' and that she 'almost turned (him) in this morning.' Dex is a very unhappy camper and Deb is barely keeping it together in a mission to save her brother.
Deb is discovering one horrifying thing after the next and she's only seen Dex in action once. What happens if she 'breaks' (so to speak) and turns him in? This question is one of many surely plaguing Dexter as we begin season 7.

DEXTER's Early Cuts has just released its next episode. In this chapter, Dexter's on the hunt for the prostitute killer, what will he dig up?
Edit/ After re-watching these 'Early Cuts' and having viewed Dexter's season 7 debut (on Showtime Sept 30) I can see a strong tie-in between the 'old' Dex and Deb and the present day brother - sister unit. Dexter and Deb's behaviour in the present took shape years ago and the Early Cuts are excellent at adding dimensions to the Dexter-verse!

Though Dexter is going into it's seventh season, I think it quite likely that the most exciting part of the series lies ahead.
Dexter, at it's core, is a story of a serial killer and his big secret, the 'Dark Passenger' who compels him to kill. Having to carry this secret alone has led to a pretty isolated life for Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). Without his sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), there's a good chance Dexter's life would have been even more dysfunctional: he may have never married or had a child, which though they did not dampen his need to feed his Dark Passenger, did in fact open Dexter up to being able to love.
In season 1, Dexter declared that he did not really understand what it meant to love someone, believing he could not do so but 'if he could,' that person would be his sister, Deb.
It turned out that he loved both his now-dead wife, Rita and his biological son, Harrison as well as Deb.
However, with Debra now literally witnessing Dexter feeding his Dark Passenger by plunging a knife through serial killer Travis's heart, there has been created as actor James Remar ('Harry') puts it, 'a tectonic shift' in Dexter's world.
This is indeed the end of 'Dexter's secret belonging to him'.
The biggest question to be answered is what now lies ahead? My guess is more--much more-- shifting.

There's no better time to stroll down memory lane with the Weeds cast than right now as they move towards the penultimate episode of the final season of the show this Sunday on Showtime.
Unsurprisingly, many of the favourite cast and creator moments included the numerous weed/stoner times, especially when Uncle Andy and Doug thought that they should sample as much product as they could inhale. There are also fond memories recounted of the sexual adventures that that Nancy, Andy and Doug engaged in (albeit separately) that are most often more funny than sexy,

No one escapes the Dark Passenger. Dexter returns September 30th at 9PM ET/PT.
DEXTER season 7, Episode 1: DEXTER Season 7 premiere. Episode 7.01 - 'Are You ...?' Meanwhile, Detective Mike Anderson has an unfortunate run-in, Quinn and Batista begin to make amends, and LaGuerta finds evidence that causes her to re-think the closed Bay Harbor Butcher case.
*See? I told you it was mind blowing--and spoiler-y! There is some really effed up stuff going on too, which in the case of a cold-blooded murder of a series regular in the police station must be someone's (Deb's or Dex's) daydream or nightmare. I never considered the possibility that it was real but judging from the comments beneath the video, plenty of Dexter fans do.
Dexter continues to be my favourite Showtime show (though I'm really digging Homeland, too!) and in the top 5 of any television drama I watch so I am definitely popping up a big bowl of popcorn, snuggling up with my honey, and tuning in when it premieres on Sept. 30. (I prefer to watch it as it airs 'live' in my time zone--not DVR it).
Deb and La Guerta aren't the only two people who will be on to Dexter this season. "As we introduce in the pilot, Dexter kills someone who is very important to Ray Stevenson's Isaac, someone who is a significant part of his organization," showrunner Scott Buck says. "That also tees Isaac off to find out what happened to this person, who killed this person and so he's also on to Dexter all throughout this season." Man, Dex just can't catch a break this year, huh?

Dexter season 7 'In the beginning...' (Credit: Showtime)
It's pretty clear that Dexter is invoking the Code, part "Never get caught." Wow. Dexter immediately overrules Deb. Interesting, though not unsurprising. A part of him knew that he couldn't keep it from her forever. I wonder if a part of her knew anything?
The Beginning (Dexter Spot) VIDEO:
Dexter season 7 'In the beginning...' (Credit: Showtime)
Dexter - Season 7 - Press Release SPOILERS:
Season 7 returns in explosive fashion, as Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is finally forced to confront his greatest fear, as Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) witnesses his insatiable, ritualistic slaying of a killer. Now Deb knows the secret of his Dark Passenger, his undeniable thirst for blood, and the Code that their father Harry (James Remar) instilled in him as a young boy.
But as Deb tries to reconcile the unfathomable idea that her beloved, mild-mannered brother is Miami’s most notorious serial killer, Dexter is still pulled by his natural impulses to seek out the guilty and exact his brand of vigilante justice, which leads him on the trail of a brutal Ukrainian mobster (Ray Stevenson).
Along the way, Dexter meets Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski), a strong, independent woman with a past that she's struggled to put behind her. As a turn of events leads Miami Metro Homicide to ask for her help in solving some old cases, Dexter works with her and begins to wonder if there's more to this woman than she's professed.

Dexter and it's cast are a fixture at the annual San Diego Comic-Con. Showtime's long-running series' Dexter panel never fails to be a SRO crowd of enthusiastic, loyal fans. The 2012 edition was no different--it may well have been even more exciting than any previous year (remember how Dexter season 6 ended?)
Despite the lack of solid spoilers for Dexter season 7 that came out of Comic-Con 2012, there are plenty of intriguing hints and body language cues that you can enjoy trying to decipher. I know I did!
Media--video--photos--tweets--were flying fast and furious and I tried to swoop in and gather all the good stuff that I could. However, if I've failed to credit someone, please let me know and I'll fix it right up.

Jennifer Carpenter as Deb in Dexter (Showime) season 7 episode 1 (Sept 30)
Intel From Comic-Con 2012 Dexter Panel:
About that opening 2 minutes of season 7...
Q: Is Deb actually buying what Dexter is selling in first few minutes of Season 7?
A: “He hopes so… In that moment,” Michael C. Hall said with a laugh. Added Jennifer Carpenter, “She’s just taking one step at a time; she takes one step forward and is sent 10 back.”
Look for Season 7′s Deb to embrace her position of power a bit more than in previous years. “She actually needs [her authority] now. It’s the one card she has to play,” Carpenter teased. “At any second — if Deb lives after what you just saw [in the promo] — she could tell someone to put cuffs on him.” Long story short, “It’s like Dexter and Deb are just fish swimming [in opposite directions] for awhile.”
Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall in Dexter season 7 on Showtime - Sept 30, 2012
Familial Love?
Carpenter might be alone in these sentiments, but she was not as taken aback by Deb’s seemingly sudden affections toward her “brother.”
“There was certainly a fascination that I thought Deb had with Dexter [early on], so it didn’t feel like it was so bizarre to play that last season.”
However, she added, “I think him stabbing somebody trumps those thoughts.”
Dexter and Deb in a new series of 'The Early Cuts'
Family that slays together stays together - VIDEO:
The animated webisode series returns this summer. Illustrations by David Mack. Written by Scott Reynolds.
Deb watches Dexter take off in Dexter: The Early Cuts (Showtime Summer 2012)
The year is 2000:
Dexter speaks in voice-over about prostitute killings being low-priority police matters over a montage of a bloody slashing/slayings. In his job with Miami Metro as Dexter Morgan, blood-spatter analyst, he finds opportunity to look more closely at the case for clues. He finds a pattern to the location of the homicides ('a star') and decides to attempt an intervention before the next one occurs.
Dexter voice-over: 'The family that slays together, stays together' followed by a long, regretful shot at a puzzled-looking teenage Debra.
'The father', Dexter intones as he determines 'who' is driving the son to kill.'
Oh, the symbolism! Dexter didn't see it as it pertains to his own family back then. Will he though, in the present time, now that Deb knows of his Dark Passenger begin to understand the many pieces that went into the puzzle of what made Dexter Morgan a serial killer? Will Dexter's own little family stay together and if so, how?
My Dark Passenger Exposed (Dexter Spot) VIDEO:
Published on Jul 9, 2012 by SHOWTIME (VIDEO):
The following (borderline erotic) teasers feature the “siblings” writhing around separately (and suggestively) on a black bed, while Dexter’s signature voiceover ponders what’s to come. Will Deb learn to accept his true identity (“I found a way to live with my secret, but I never had a choice… Does she?”)? Or will he have to take deadly drastic measures to protect himself (“The only thing worse than not knowing what she’ll do is not knowing what I’ll do.”)?
These two promo clips for season 8 Dexter are disturbing on several levels, including erotic. It was said that they were gonna deal with the 'Deb is in love with her brother' story more in season 8 so...there you go. Shouldn't complicate a hugely complicated situation at all. I'm sure.
On second thought, it could be wound up pretty quickly via the oft-used trope of 'let's just do this' and get it over with--and then the sexual tension will be gone. That could end a lot of ways but there's one big hurdle, Dexter's high moral code would probably prevent him from doing Deb--ever. She sees him sexually, she thinks. He has never thought of her 'that way.' Given the stuff that went down in the season 6 finale and that on his best day, Dex is not exactly 'studly,' I doubt that sexual activity of any kind witll be on his 'to-do' list.
Dexter returns for season 7 Sunday, September 30 at 9 PM ET/PT.
What Happens Next? (Dexter Spot) VIDEO:
Of the two new Dexter Spots, "My Dark Passenger" and 'What Happens Next?', 'What Happens Next'could be anthems for both Dexter and Deb in season 7 DEXTER as they take stock of What Happened and What Are they Going To Do (about it). Meanwhile, I'm assuming that as much as it ever was--on steroids(!) it will have to be 'business as usual' for the sibs at Miami Metro. It's not like crime is going to just stop now that the serial murderer's, murderer has been discovered by Deb to be her bro, Dexter. But bonus(!) Dex helped Deb solve a case she didn't even know she had!
It's going to be a crazy mother-effing season 7 of a final 8 so there is very little to lose by taking risks with the writing. I think the season that begins Sept 30 on Showtime may be getting more far out in some ways than ever before. Why not? It could be fun! Very fun! Finish DEXTER and go out balls to the wall...with a question mark...
Dexter Season 7 Sneak Peek July 2 (Official) VIDEO:
The following video contains exclusive never before seen footage from the upcoming season of Dexter.
Here's the original DEXTER tease (above). Please don't hate me, just scroll down to see it slowed down to clip by clip, if you'd like. I actually thought it was sort of fun to pull all the screencaps out--like a game--and it only took 30 minutes!
By now, many DEXTER fans have been both pleasantly surprised by 'exclusive never before seen footage from the upcoming season of Dexter' and hugely frustrated or like me, amused at the 'gotcha' that the Showtime publicity department pulled by revving up the video so fast that the images go by in a blur. Of course, it didn't take any time at all either, for higher-tech types than me to SLOW. IT. DOWN. Me, I just paused and screencaped, etc. and have almost identical results which of course, I'm sharing. So what was revealed today about season 7 DEXTER? WELL, SPOILERS TO BE SURE!
Please stop right now because I'm going to reveal some of what are absolutely spoiler images from season 7 DEXTER that could ruin it for you if you wish to remain completely unspoiled. Last warning....Go!
Firstly, no surprise: Deb does not shoot or arrest Dexter. I don't know whose idea it is, but instead the siblings do this:
They set fire to the crime scene, which results in this:
So begins Dexter season 7. After that, comes many images of Dexter and Debra, both clearly struggling with this massive revelation. I'm very interested in the family flashback in which we see their mom for the first time!
That little boy sure is a ringer for Michael C. Hall!
What preceded this sad scene was this happier one:
A new puppy for Debra! But look at Harry, clearly alarmed. From what we know of Dexter's early years, he started killing small animals so letting Dexter loose on the puppy could spill his sociopathic proclivities so I'm guessing Harry put the kibosh on the new puppy. So sad!
There are almost 50 new screencaps of brand-new season 7 scenes so be sure to peruse them and see what you can identify!
Here's the slowed-down verions of the July 2 Dexter tease:
And here are the screencaps I made with a couple thrown in from the slowed version as they were clearer.

TEASER TRANSCRIPT:
Dexter's new teaser trailer gives us an initial idea of Debra Morgan's reaction to meeting her brother's Dark Passenger for the very first time.
"Jesus, Dexter!" she blurts. He responds in a level tone,"Deb, it's me."
"Get away from the body," Deb answers, gun trained squarely on Dexter, almost as if by muscle memory.
Truth Brings Light (Dexter Spot) SCREENCAPS::
DEXTER returns Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9/8c on Showtime for it's seventh (and 2nd to last) season, picking up right where it left off.
TVGuide.com talked to DEXTER executive producer Sara Colleton to get the scoop on season 7:
The last we saw of Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in Season 6, he had finally delivered his own biblical form of vengeance upon Travis (Colin Hanks)... in the closing moments of the finale. Unfortunately, Dexter wasn't alone in that church, with Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) planning to profess her love to her brother before walking in on him moments before driving a knife into Travis.
Clearly, Deb's reaction will be Dexter's greatest obstacle this season as he's faced with someone finally taking off his mask. But his sister isn't the only person Dexter will have to worry about when evidence at the church suggests the Bay Harbor Butcher is back. Considering Dexter framed Sgt. Doakes (Erik King) for that, even Debra may not be able to protect him.
TVGuide: If last season was about finding faith for Dexter, what is this season about?
Colleton: It is about things he's never experienced before, which are regret, responsibility, shame, betrayal, all of those things...
TVGuide: Deb only saw Dexter kill Travis on the table, but will she learn everything this season?
Colleton: Yeah...She was on her way to the church at the end of the last season because ... she not only loved her foster brother Dexter, but she is in love with him. So now what does she do? ...Dexter was always elusive and Debra always thought it was because of her, and now she knows it wasn't about her, it was about him really protecting her.
As the head Miami Metro homicide division... it has to really affect her sense of justice...and Dexter, of course, his world is equally rocked. He's never had to deal with these kinds of emotions — regret, guilt, a sense of having let Deb down and also, obviously, the gnawing suspicion that at any time, she could have him arrested.
Refresh your memory with season 6 funale scene VIDEO:
Dexter 6x12 - Season 6 finale scene - Dexter kills Travis and gets caught by Deb (HD) VIDEO:
TVGuide: Given what Deb learns about Dexter, how will that change her sudden revelation that she has feelings for him?
Colleton: It has to explored but obviously what she learns is going to affect it... so all of the things that have been the bedrock of Deb's life get moved around..
TVGuide: Will we see a vulnerable side to Dexter this season?
Colleton: Oh, yes. It is like Superman's cape has been taken off. He's extremely vulnerable and that is very interesting to see and to explore.
TVGuide: Speaking of Harry (James Remar)... how will his advice to Dexter differ from what we've seen before?
Sara Colleton: It's very upsetting to Harry. Deb realizes now, too, that this was never her being 'Daddy's second best'. She will learn all about Harry training Dexter and that is another thing that is going to rock her world...
TVGuide: What other obstacles will Dexter face because of Deb's discovery?
Sara Colleton:There are other complications that will come in because, at the crime scene, Dexter's blood slide is discovered by Lieutenant LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) because he loses it in the chaos that ensues and she immediately recognizes it's his.
The only other time that she had seen this blood slide was in the copy case of the Bay Harbor Butcher. Sergeant Doakes, her ex-lover and dear friend (everyone) thought he was the Bay Harbor Butcher, and thought that when he died, the Bay Harbor Butcher died with him.
Now, she begins to suspect, "Is the Bay Harbor Butcher still alive and how can I set about proving ..Doake's innocence?" ... that's a silent thing at the start, but it's... going to eventually work its way back to Dexter.
Ray Stevenson plays Issac, the head of a crime syndicate who owns many nightclubs in Miami.. He comes to Miami when his very close personal lieutenant is accused of killing a Miami cop and then suddenly disappears...This is going to be a long story arc.
Jason Gedrick plays George, the U.S. manager of all of his clubs.
Yvonne Strahovski plays 'Hannah', (a woman) who took off from this small Florida town with an older guy and then went on this wild killing spree. When they got caught, she turned state's evidence on him, he went to jail for life. and she started a new life. Years later she's in her 30s, has started a new life and then she meets Dexter... Hannah is a still water that runs very deep... and is quite unlike any woman Dexter has ever known...Hannah has a cool aloofness, but there's something about her that will intrigue him.
Do you have scoop for Louis Greene him on Dexter? A: The creeper who sent Dexter the hand from the Ice Truck Killer case will be back! "We realized that Louis has a whole darker side and people who become fans can turn into dangerous stalkers in the blink of the eye. That's what Louis has turned into," Colleton tells us. "[Dexter will] discover the Ice Truck Killer hand — he has no idea it's in his home — and what the writing on the palm of it means."
Make sure you click through and read all the TVGuide articles in their entirety. I culled info and mostly rewrote the excerpts except actual quotes of course, but there is a lot of material to cover at this huge, huge juncture in the Dexter-verse.
Another thing I recommend and am starting for myself beginning tomorrow night, is to re-watch Dexter, starting from Season 1 episode 1. I realized that in this 7-year period I've watched many of the episodes only one time and I've forgotten many details that based on what I'm reading now, I am going ot want to be fresh about. Plus, I'd like to go back and study the evolution of the Dex and Deb relationship more closely. Besides the serial killer aspect, the Dex and Deb dynamic has been the most compelling for me to watch. I'd come to DEXTER as a Michael C. Hall fan but I'd not seen Jennifer Carpenter's work prior to Dexter. In the last few years her portrayal of Debra has gotten really quite outstanding. Truly, Carpenter has really grown as an actor right before our eyes. You should join me. It'll be fun!
Well, this screencap from the brand new WEEDS video clip below sure does tell a story. Even though we knew from the many heavy hints dropped by Weeds and by the outright spoilers laid out by reviewers, we were not 100% sure that someone else didn't take the bullet meant for Nancy. But the drying pool of blood is exactly where she would have fallen as she raised her glass of wine to toast the family being all together and 'not killing one another.' Despite the preparation, it is still a chilling image.

Gosh, Uncle Andy (Justin Kirk) looks so sad. Rarely do we see him like this, completely morose.
Given that they were eating when the shooting happened, this must be some time (as in many hours) later.
Regardless, a nice man stops by Andy's table and asks may he sit, Andy says yes, and the guy engages him in conversation. Very shortly thereafter we begin to see Andy recovering a bit of the perpetual sparkle in his eye. He's not swinging from the rafters, but clearly, a few kind words go a long way.

WEEDS RETURNS TO SHOWTIME ON SUNDAY JULY 1ST!
After the jump: Entertainment Weekly on Weeds' Final Season:
Dexter season 7 Sept 30 Showtime - Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) season 7: She knows.
Though for the past six seasons we've loyally watched 'DEXTER,' a stellar Showtime offering about a serial killer who only kills 'bad people,' we all knew that we were also tuning in to see the 'Dexter and Deb' show. The adopted children of Harry Morgan behaved as blood siblings, closer it seemed at times, despite Dexter's horrific secret with his serial killer dual life always just barely out of Deb's sight-line.
Dexter (Michael C. Hall) pondered again and again how Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) might react were she ever to discover what her big brother was doing during his many seemingly off-the face-of-the-earth disappearances and then just as suddenly, his dropping back into their lives as if he'd never stepped out.
But as the audience has known all along, Dex was duping Deb. Finally, we saw in the season 6 cliff-hangar finale, Deb has now literally caught Dexter red-handed committing a murder. Where will they go from here? Is there any 'going' anywhere from here? Debra has, over the years, expressed frustration to both Dexter and her therapist that as much as she loves and leans on Dexter, she's not sure that he feels the same towards her, that perhaps (to paraphrase) he's keeping part of himself closed off, inaccessible to her which really pains her. Now they are at the rip-the-lid-off-the-box-of-secrets-Dexter's-harbouring-moment. All of it is hers to know. Will she, though, want to face this horrible reality? Dexter's up for it--up for anything, one would think, to bring Deb back down to the new reality. But what will all this entail--how will it even be possible with both of them headed into the lion's den (Miami Metro) each day bearing this huge reveal? Stay tuned, starting September 30th on Showtime!
Truth Brings Light (Dexter & Deb Spot) VIDEO:
Michael C. Hall as DEXTER - returns in Sept 30 on Showtime
The first (real) teaser for the seventh season of Dexter asked whether Debra will accept Dex following her grim discovery, but this first poster for the upcoming season focuses squarely on the serial killer. Originally posted: http://seriable.com/dexter-first-season-7-poster
Showtime has unveiled a great new spot for the upcoming seventh season of Dexter, centering on theme of truth and acceptance in the wake of last season’s dramatic cliffhanger. The new spot features images of Dexter and Debra reflecting the different shades that comprise their relationship and Dexter’s acceptance of who he is.
Dexter narrates the piece.
Dex: “They say truth brings light. It’s the lies that live in darkness. But here we are, in the moment of truth.
He continues: “Everything in my life has brought me to this point. It’s what I am. It’s all I am. I can accept that. ..But can she?
Since Dexter is currently shooting season 7, there's every reason to expect more goodies-sharing (please and thank you).
DEXTER - Episode 7.01 - Are You....? - First Promotional PHOTO (Full Size):
Cool photograph, no? Do you think maybe Dexter is speaking the episode title: 'Are you... going to shoot me?' or...'Are you...going to ask me what I'm doing/why I'm doing it?' 'Are you...OK?' 'Are you...going to arrest me?' 'Are you...going to listen to my explanation?' So many possibilities! Could it be Deb saying 'Are you...going to tell me what happened?' 'Are you...crazy? ' Are you...@#&!$ in the head? Good episode 1 title for this red-letter day, which began in the DEXTER season 6 finale when Deb finally catches her brother in the act. Too bad it gives nothing away!
Speaking of giving nothing away, so far I've got nothing on episode one details. Think that might be how the Dexter peeps wish to keep it until the very last minute? (Rhetorical. Of course they do!)
If you scroll down however, you can read up on episodes 7.02, 7.03 and 7.04 and you will absolutely see the big picture beginning to form about Dexter and Deb's world beyond this earth-shattering revelation. This season is looking very good, indeed! Check back for more on Dexter in the run-up to season 7 and of course, complete coverage of DEXTER season 7, which premeires on September 30 on Showtime!
Dexter Returns (Season 7) VIDEO:
From DEXTER EP Scott Buck via TV Guide:
Picking up immediately where the finale left off, Season 7 will open with Debra's horrified reaction to seeing her brother kill last season's baddie, Travis. "Viewers might think we shy away from that moment of Debra walking in and seeing Dexter stabbing into Travis' chest, but it's just the opposite," says executive producer Scott Buck. "She now has to deal with what she's seen and what she knows. And it forces him to defend and define himself."
That's complicated given Deb's romantic feelings for her brother.
"It's ironic that people are fine with Dexter jabbing people in the heart but mortified by this romance," says Buck. "We're not shying away from those feelings of hers, either."
Bonus: Instead of one Big Bad, this season will have several — and a Ukrainian strip club owner named Sirko (Ray Stevenson) looks especially psycho.

Avatar and The Shield tough guy Matt Gerard is coming to the show’s seventh season. He’s going to play a 'blue-collar violent criminal' in a multi-episode arc next season. As previously reported, Dexter also has Ray Stevenson (Rome) playing a Russian mob bad guy next season.
Could Dexter be getting a new lady-love partner-in-crime? It has been a whole season since the vengeful Lumen left Dex, and we're hearing that we'll meet a new lady with a violent past this season — but we also hear she's actually expected to stick around for a while. She's now trying to live a quiet life... until she meets Dexter.
It seems that the casting for roles in DEXTER season 7 has begun in earnest. A number of casting calls went out earlier this week and now there's a name to go with a character with a 'major recurring role.'
From AUSIELLO:
In the first piece of casting for the show’s upcoming seventh season, Dexter has tapped Rome (HBO) actor Ray Stevenson to join the ensemble in a 'major recurring role' TVLine has learned exclusively.
Stevenson will play a high-ranking member of an Eastern European crime ring who arrives in Miami determined to learn who killed one of his associates.
Ray Stevenson
Stevenson has starred in TV's "Rome" and in movies like "Thor" and "Punisher: War Zone," will also star in the "Thor" sequel and this summer's 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation.'
"Dexter," which was renewed for a seventh and eighth season by SHOWTIME in November, will begin its seventh season on September 30.
No further details were available, including whether Stevenson will function as the new season’s 'Big Bad'.
Looking over the casting descriptions, it's possible that Stevenson will be playing this guy:
[VIKTOR KAREV] 30s, handsome, well dressed, stylish, slight Eastern European accent. He is a polished businessman who can get his hands dirty when he has to.
Also, I must take exception to Ausiello's assumption that there will be a single 'big bad' in season 7 DEXTER. If you recall (and how could you not?!) when last we saw them, Dex's (Michael C. Hall) sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), had just discovered Dexter in the act of committing a murder, decked out in his usual garb in his made-to-order 'kill room.' There is no way, no how that this is going to be a 'normal' season of Dexter (if there is such a thing) so I'm not ready to wager that anything this season will be business as usual.
Dexter's seventh season premieres Sunday, Sept. 30.
HOMELAND SCOOP!
Q: Is it too early to ask for Homeland scoop?
TVGuide: Never! Even though Carrie (Claire Danes) was booted from the CIA by David Estes at the end of Season 1, I hear she'll be travelling overseas on a special mission -- with Estes' approval -- when the new season, which reportedly takes place six months later, begins. And speaking of Estes: One of Brody's (Damien Lewis) first assignments from Abu Nazir requires him to break into a safe in his office!

HUGE SPOILER Update:
Well, first, thank dog it's NOT Jonah.
Second, the so-called riddle 'spoilers.' from my prior post about this (the link folllows) were WRONG and the blinking garbarge blog from which I procured them is just that.
Third, welcome back Rudy (Christian Camargo)! Woo-hoo. Super-savage Dex is back in a big way if he's taking cues from his badder big-brother Brian/Rudy/the Ice Truck Killer who Dexter killed in season1.
Here's some context from the blog of a Salon blogger who has no compunction about revealing everything about episode 6.06 before the episode airs:
....when Dexter gets Sam's parting plea on his deathbed in the hospital, Dexter is pitched into a new, harrowing internal battle between the light and dark ... Don't kill my killer, Sam implores Dexter - forgive him, let your hatred go... He confronts Sam's killer - Nick - and might have let him live, but the taunts about getting away with Sam's killing goad Dexter into drowning the life out of him.
(Credit: Showtime)
(This isn't surprising IMO, as Dex, when taunted by his victim tends to get hyper-intense about the kill. Dex has lost control before and done non-traditional kills.)
...Dex's killing of Sam's killer was not at all ritualistic. At a time like this, we might expect some laconically appropriate words from Dex's father Harry.
But what we get, instead, is a reappearance of Brian/Rudy/the Ice Truck Killer - Dexter's brother, killed by Dexter in Season One. And if Dex's brain is bringing him into view, there is some deep darkness indeed ahead for Dexter.
In my previous DEXTER post I tossed around some of the speculation as to who, possibly an individual or entity with a Dark Passenger, would be reentering DEXTER's life in this Sunday's episode. Gossip-ologist Ausiello is now confirming that this 'person' (vs. figment of the imagination/ghost) will not be Lumen. That should help narrow it down a bit but honestly, having watched this show for years (and not re-watched DEXTER's early years recently) I cannot remember if I'm forgetting to consider someone.
Also, I keep seeing the name 'Jonah' brought up in speculative threads around the Internet. Jonah, it turns out, was featured in DEXTER season 5. He was the Trinity Killer's son but he left so small of an impression on me that I cannot see the significance of him being brought back other than he knows that Dexter faked his identity in pursuit of Trinity. Jonah doesn't know specifically that DEXTER is a serial killer and he doesn't know the details of his father's death.
However, having been reared by a serial killer may be significant in pushing Dexter further into pondering the fate of his own son, Harrison. If it turns out that Trinity's son now has own Dark Passenger it would further fuel Dexter's anxiety about his son Harrison's fate should Dexter continue to rear him.
Here are the latest hints/spoilers from Ausiello as to what is coming up on DEXTER:
Question: I have to ask, as I am getting quite nervous about the whole situation: Do you feel Dexter will continue past this season? Ausiello: Not only do I feel it will, I know it will.
Question: What’s this I’m hearing about a major character returning to Dexter? True? Any clues? Ausiello: True. Someone from Dex’s past reappears this Sunday and here’s your one and only clue: The mystery man (or woman) in question was featured prominently in Season 5. Or was it Season 3? Come to think of it, it might’ve been Season 1. It’s definitely one of those three.
Question: Any chance we’ll see Lumen on Dexter anytime soon? Ausiello: OK, one more hint: The returning character is not Lumen. “I don’t think we’ll see her again this season,” confirms EP Scott Buck. “She’s a very important part of Dexter’s life and who he has become, but she’s largely a person of his past.”
Saw an interesting opinion the other day about "Who shot Nancy Botwin?' (on Showtime's "WEEDS") if indeed she was shot.
Also, just read a really facinating interview with Showtime president David Nevins about Weeds and some other signature Showtime shows too, as well as a couple getting ready to debut like Homeland. I excerpted a couple Q's below but be sure to click through because the article is worth a read. (Scroll down below the possible SPOILER coming up...)
"Nancy Botwin" with son 'Silas', ' Guillermo,' and in back, husband 'Esteban'
Q: So was that a season or series finale of Weeds? A: Though Showtime has yet to renew the series, we hear that this isn't the last we've seen of the Botwin clan. So what does that mean for Nancy? Did 'Guillermo' finally exact revenge after all these years of abuse? Possibly! We ran into Guillermo Diaz on the Scandal set, and he revealed that:
SPOILER.
'Guillermo actually appeared in the penultimate episode (of Weeds!):
He also mentioned that the cast, including him, are expecting to be back for another season. (Time to re-watch that episode again, stat!)'
It's not often that a network executive gets to take over in a period of prosperity. Usually, the previous guy was fired, and usually because things haven't been going well. But Showtime entertainment president David Nevins took over the pay cable channel last summer not because there was a crisis, but because predecessor Robert Greenblatt was looking for new challenges (in this case, trying to resurrect NBC) after seven successful years.
Under Greenblatt's watch, Showtime went from HBO afterthought to a channel with its own clear identity, with a roster of shows that became Emmy contenders from the moment they were announced, and in the case of "Dexter," a very clear hit...
Well, speaking of that, "Dexter" is your biggest hit. It's done very, very well for you. But that is a show where it seems, no matter who is behind the wheel, it has certain things it does each and every year. Last year, we were told, "This will not be like any other year. We're not going to have a big bad who winds up strapped to Dexter's table," and that's pretty much what happened with Jonny Lee Miller's character. You said in the executive session that that's a show you'd like to see go on for many more years to come.
As a programmer, I believe in change. I'm not scared of change. I know where they're going this season and have some sense of where they could go in subsequent seasons. Just as you have to keep seeding your network with the next new thing, in long-running shows you have to make changes, and I think sometimes people get very conservative about, "Don't mess with the formula. It works." In the same way I think it's good to mess with your programming formula, I think long-running shows mess with the formula. The difference between "ER" and "Ally McBeal" is that "ER" changed a lot over the years and ran for 14 years, versus "Ally McBeal," which burned bright, didn't change and went away. I think "Jackie" and "Dexter" both are into that moment where they need to mess with what they're doing. There's going to be some things that happen over this season of "Dexter" that can change some of the DNA in the show.
...I wrote a story that mentioned in passing that "Weeds" is the one Showtime comedy that significantly evolves as it goes along...
'(And) when I actually looked at the (Weed's viewership) numbers, they've been very strong over time.'
'The numbers really hold up. I think it's (Weeds is) ballsy....a...great advantage... every year: you wipe the slate clean, start with a new story, and you can pull things forward that you want to pull forward, you can change things) or not, if you get sick of someone you can kill them, etc...'
WEEDS: Episode 7.13: 'Do Her / Don't Do Her' Synopsis:
Silas betrays Nancy while Shane attempts to protect her.In the Season 7 finale, Silas betrays Nancy, even as Shane makes one last attempt to protect her from Detective Ouellette; back on Wall Street, Doug and Whit hatch a plan to keep the hedge fund alive.
I have not watched the WEEDS: Episode 13, season 7 finale but I have watched all of season 7 so far and the entire series, for that matter (backtracking at one point about 1.5 years into Weeds' run on Showtime--to get caught up on the first season and a half that I'd missed initially--didn't have Showtime).
I find it a fun show to watch. It's got sharp writing--a good, solid ensemble cast (to which Heylia returned this year--woo-hoo!) and it is not anti-or particularly, pro-pot use. Only someone who hasn't listened to the explanation of what the show is about would not get that Weeds has years where 'weed' is featured almost like a featured cast member and other times sort of relegated to distant co-star (though the "weeds" of the title remain integral to every season). It really all depends on what the Botwin family lead by Nancy (Mary-Louise-Parker), is struggling through at any particular time. Sometimes imminent death is an 'issue,' other times ' just' going back to prison. Another bump in the road was helping Shane (Alexander Gould) (so far) get away with murder (Pilar with the croquet mallet by the pool--in pseudo-self-defense, some would argue justifiable homicide). When the Botwins have problems they are outsize problems. Thank dog they have "Uncle Andy' ( Justin Kirk) to help them through troubled times.
The the set-up of Silas (Hunter Parrish) getting revenge on Nancy for well in truth, years of lousy (but well-intentioned!) parenting is not too daunting to contemplate when all that the Botwins have survived is tallied up.
The weed-jacked Heylia could be scary but Nancy had been able to sweet-talk her way out of ever dire situation save one--last year's federal arrest subsequent three-year incarceration--so I don't think truly anything awful shall befall our favourite weed distributor in the season-ender.
It's hard to know where Weeds will go from here. There's been no formal announcement by the network about renewal for a season 8 Weeds. Would you want that if it were to be an option? Especially when I compare it to some of the network shows that go on FOREVER plus the fact that one season of Weeds comprises 13, 30-minute shows--Weeds could easily go on--I'm good with that.
Weeds: 'Deep Breaths' Silas admits his wrong doing to Andy.

Laura Linney in 'The Big C' (Photo credit: Showtime)
When I grow up* I want to be able to write as well as Ileane Rudolph does in her stellar TVGuide article on Showtime's The Big C. Writer Rudolph simply nails oh, everything I like about the show. The piece echos my sentiments about The Big C's ability to strike a chord with survivors of not only life-threatening conditions such as the protagonist, Cathy Jameson with stage 4 cancer, but of the great lot of us that have survived and often thrived in the aftermath of one of the many things that smack us HARD out of left field.
The Big C and Weeds are on tonight beginning at 10:00/9:00c on Showtime.
After coming home from the real-life fireworks I'm watching both shows which always have someone or some situation heating up, blowing up or causing massive cracking up. How about you?
*Chronologically-speaking this happened a few decades ago...but I'm still coming to grips with that.
With a mischievous smile, Laura Linney is gleefully ruining a take. During a tense scene between her character, Cathy Jamison, who has Stage 4 melanoma, and her bipolar brother, Sean, played by John Benjamin Hickey, she makes her costar break down in giggles.
Whoever says cancer is no laughing matter hasn't seen The Big C, Showtime's irreverent comedy about a Minneapolis teacher, wife and mom who's trying not only to beat death but to live as fully as possible in whatever time she has left. The smartly written, beautifully cast show has earned a devoted fan base and critical plaudits, and three-time Emmy winner Linney has already snared a Golden Globe for her deft portrayal of the strong-willed Cathy.
The oft-repeated mantra at The Big C is "It's not a show about dying; it's a show about living." And for sure, Cathy lives large. In the first season she kept her illness a secret, booted her immature husband, Paul (Oliver Platt), and had an affair. "Cathy doesn't behave in a safe, by-the-numbers fashion," says Hickey, during a break on the set in Stamford, Connecticut. "A lot of people who are living with cancer love the funny, outrageous, sometimes controversial way that character deals." Executive producer Jenny Bicks, a survivor herself, says, "The writers take the kid gloves off when we talk about cancer, because when you've gone through it, it's not all tragic and dramatic. It can also be super strange and funny."
This sneak peek is very, very funny. I so love Uncle Andy (Justin Kirk) and Alexander Gould just gets better each season. Having literally grown up in his role of Nancy's misunderstood (some call him 'weird') younger son 'Shane,' he really seems now more than at any time, to exude complete comfort when wearing his 'Shane suit'.

Is Weeds' Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) 'the same ol' Nancy'? Do you really need to ask? Even if you don't, it is big fun finding out how much of 'old' Nancy remains and how much 3 years in prison have changed her--for good or ill.
Then there are 'the guys' -- Nancy's family plus 'Doug' (Kevin Nealon), for whom Nancy, as creator Jenji Kohan states, is their 'True North.' Watch for them to abandon Amsterdam for Nancy's new stomping grounds--New York City--but don't expect each of them to be on board for the move.
Weeds Season 7, Episode 2 - From Trauma Cometh Something
Struggling to create a new life for herself in New York, Nancy is thrown for a loop when Andy and Shane show up on her doorstep; Silas seeks to launch a state side modeling career; Doug looks up an old friend.
SPOILERS: Nancy - Gay For the Stay?:
Q: How could Nancy betray her cellmate/lover like that on Weeds? Is that the last we'll see of her?
A: Don't count on it, executive producer Jenji Kohan says. But also don't count on it being all hearts and flowers next time they meet. (Remember, said girlfriend did set fire to her last boyfriend.) "Zoya is a woman of passion," she adds. "[But Nancy was just] gay for the stay."
Everyone's favorite TV troublemaker, Michelle Trachtenberg, is set to cause some serious trouble for Nancy Botwin on 'Weeds' this season.
Like Mary Kate Olsen before her, Trachtenberg will play a pot dealer on the Showtime series -- but her character will be one of Nancy's rivals, not one of her coworkers. Look for the actress also known as Georgina Sparks to pop up in two episodes this season.
I have a sneaking suspicion that also 'like Mary Kate Olsen before her,' Trachtenberg's character is going to be bedding Silas (Hunter Parrish). Call it a hunch because it isn't a spoiler. ;)
After the jump: The FULL Season 7 Episode 1 of WEEDS!
BRING IT ON. Mondays are hotter than ever, on SHOWTIME ®.
After explaining why in a recent post that if you enjoy award-winning, edgy comedy television why you should be tuning in to Weeds on Monday, June 27 at 10 E/ 9pm Central on Showtime, I'm going to tell you a bit about The Big C, which is also an edgy half-hour comedy starring another award-winning stage and screen actor, Laura Linney, which is premiering on Monday night, too.
The Big C directly follows Weeds on Mondays at 10:30 E/ 9:30 Central on Showtime.
Full disclosure: I started watching The Big C last year as 1. Laura Linney is amazing and 2. It followed Weeds so it was easy to just spend an hour and see two complete shows, plus 3. More and more in recent years I find myself really intrigued by Showtime's off-beat offerings.
(To put it diplomatically, I'm finding most of the television that I enjoy best on the two major premium cable channels.)
I wanted to love The Big C but after nearly half it's run, I quit watching.
I didn't dislike it exactly. There were just aspects of it that sort of struck a weird chord with me. The show after all, is a very dark comedy about a woman in her 40's who is struggling to deal with a diagnosis of Stage 4 breast cancer. That is one heavy topic to take on in any context, never mind a comedic one.
Despite my not following through, Laura Linney struck gold--a Golden Globe to be specific, as best actress in a comedy which further validates that the show had and has huge potential. The people that make the show listened to some of the feedback--both positive & negative and they responded by segueing into season 2 with a bit of a different tone.
For one, and I think it was the primary thing that I wished was different, the character of 'Cathy' who was estranged from her husband last season will help him 'grow up' this season, as Linney puts it. I've embedded cast interviews in a Weeds /Big C mash-up video selection in this post.
Her husband is played by the very likable actor (I want to say 'lug') Oliver Platt. Cathy was just so mean to him last year and though I understood why--because he's a bit thick about certain subjects--I also felt sorry for him and I felt irritated with her.
Also, at times in season 1, Cathy's attitude seemed really over-the-top, with almost a slapstick feel to some scenes. Again, Linney addresses this in the interview that Cathy's 'relationship with her cancer' is now 'evolving'. I would like to see Kathy retain the fire in her belly but express it in a somewhat less expansive/destructive way and I'm pretty sure season 2 will move more in that direction.
Finally, Cathy's decision to not seek treatment for her cancer left me feeling really unsure about her future (and thus, the future of the show). I didn't know whether to commit to it or not plus I was a bit annoyed with her that she wouldn't even try to help herself medically. This too changes in the upcoming season 2.
It's looking like there are some really strong positives to this season. First, the excellent primary cast returns (sans of course, 'Marlene'). One of the relationships I got the most enjoyment from in The Big C, season 1, was that of Cathy and her brother Sean, a homeless manic-depressive who now lives on Marlene's front lawn, across the street from Kathy.
Actor Benjamin Hickey who plays Sean, is an especially good acting match-up with Ms. Linney so this is good news.
As I mentioned before, I really enjoy Oliver Platt in his believable denseness. Women have known, and many of us are in relationships with guys like Paul. The bottom line is that he seems like a really decent chap who is hard not to like despite his foibles and it would seem in Season 2 that Cathy comes to the same conclusion.
I stopped watching before I saw much of Cathy and Paul's teenage son, Sean (played by Oliver Basso). Tonight I watched a short fan clip from The Big C with the title 'The saddest scene in The Big C,' in which Basso was the only character. (cont.)
(Above is a bit longer version of it which gives it more context).
The scene lived up to it's title as tears were streaming down my face as Cathy's son discovers that she is so sure she's not gong to be there for him in the years to come that she's bought and wrapped a storage room full of birthday, Christmas, and graduation gifts as well as a pretty, red sports car. The kid just loses it--cue audience to do the same.
To sum up, I'm sold on taking another look at The Big C in season 2 as I like what I'm hearing about it. Also, I'm totally jazzed that guest actors include Alan Alda, Parker Posey, Cynthia Nixon & Hugh Dancy.
What do you think about watching these two show? Have you been watching them both. One? None? Would you consider giving them a shot?
Showtime describes The Big C thusly:
Laura Linney returns in her Golden Globe® winning role for a new season of The Big C, the hit Showtime Original Series about living… with cancer. After spending most of season one ignoring her illness, Cathy Jamison has decided to fight back. “Bring it on,” says Cathy, as she enters an experimental clinical trial while continuing to live life to the fullest in this heartfelt and surprising comedy.

Andy Milder is returning to Showtime's Weeds. The actor, who was heavily recurring in Seasons 1, 2, 4 and 5 and a regular on Season 3, did only one episode of the show during the most recent sixth season.
Now Milder is set to recur on the upcoming seventh season, reprising his role as Dean Hodes, former husband of the infamous Celia and good buddies with 'Doug' (Kevin Nealon) who remains part of the Weeds season 7 cast.

Q: How will Nancy be different after "Plan C"? A: Don't assume that being behind bars (for 3 years) has taught Nancy anything. You'll see that her shrewd manipulation skills are as honed as ever — and she'll put them to good use on her cellmate. On the outside, things will be less copacetic, as Nancy's plan to reunite her far-flung family won't go smoothly, as not everyone will want to see her. "This year is the chickens (are) coming home to roost," executive producer Jenji Kohan says. "You can only push your family so far before they start to rebel to a certain extent, and it's about what happens then."
Some of Nancy's family doesn't want to see her initially. Shocking. Lemme guess. The kid who just prior to his Mom finally getting arrested found out that she lied to him his entire life about 'who' his father is. (That would be Silas, played by Hunter Parrish).
Also, little 4-year-old Stevie won't want to be with Nancy--at least not at first. She's a stranger to him and he's been raised by her sister, Jill!

Showtime's ever-excellent Weeds returns for season seven on June 27, and we learn that when Nancy went to prison to escape Esteban (Demián Bichir), she settled in just fine, thank you very much, as evidenced by her romance with Russian-born "roommate" Zoya (Olga Sosnovska).

More Answers About What's Happened in WEEDS 3-Year Time Jump to Season 7:
You already know that Season 7 (debuting June 27) picks up three years after the events of Season 6. What you don’t know is what Doug has been up to during those lost three years, other than he was in Copenhagen. And that’s where the scoop comes in.
“Doug got a job working as an accountant for IKEA — if that is in Denmark,” reveals his portrayer, Kevin Nealon.
Bring it On! Promo for Weeds & The Big C (June 07, 2011) The Big C and Weeds return for all new seasons June 27th beginning at 10PM ET/PT.

WEEDS : A PEEK A LIFE THREE YEARS LATER
When Weeds returns for its 7th season on June 27, there will be much for us to catch up on in the world of Nancy Botwin, who at the end of last season turned herself into police.
So, what’s waiting for her on the other side of the fence? A halfway house, for one. And also her family, which had been holding up in Copenhagen and went through some changes of their own, according to creator Jenji Kohan. Silas got into modeling, Shane kept busy doing puppet theater, Doug joined them overseas*(see 6.15.11 update above), and Andy “had a nice little thing going” with a woman. But, Kohan says, despite their new lives, Nancy’s release causes them to “quickly mobilize” and return.
“They had their relationships and their things, but there was a sense that they were always treading water because Nancy seems to be their True North. When you don’t have that star in the sky, you get a little lost,” Kohan says.
But while their dedication to Nancy has not changed, Kohan couldn’t say the same for their physical appearance.
“Shane has mutton chops and a Mohawk and he looks pretty cool, and Silas is very buff, and Andy’s a little grayer, but nothing radical.”
Unless you count Stevie.
“Oh, Stevie, yes! Stevie’s now almost 4 so he’s a little boy, and he talks. That’s a whole new ballgame — the toddler game. It’s not an infant anymore — not a little blob — it’s a person."
I think it is safe to say that Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) is never going to cop to having any regrets. Or if she does, she won't contemplate them long enough to use the new-found insights to change her perpetually self-destructive behaviour. For as long as we've known this character she's seemed to operate in a permanent state of 'emergency mode' plastered over with a veneer of zen-like calmness with a not insignificant amount of 'eff it' thrown into the mix. It is a hat trick that few actresses could pull off as convincingly as Parker does. Showtime certainly picked the right gal to get the job done.
SPOILERS BELOW:
I really, really like that Nancy was arrested and served 3 years time for the bludgeoning death of 'Pilar,' Nancy's now-ex's ex, a powerful Mexican gangster. Shane actually clubbed the woman, who was making serious death threats against the Botwin kids. Though Weeds is obviously not grounded in 'reality' reality and in fact Nancy has had to endure many consequences, jail time should appease those who felt she was getting off too easily.
Mary-Louise Parker, Justin Kirk, Kevin Nealon and the boys, played by Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould, are all immensely likable and really know their way around these characters after 6 seasons of playing them. It's a fun show to watch and at one-half hour running time, there's very little time investment. (You already subscribe to Showtime, don't you? Need reasons? Try Dexter, Shameless & Californication, for starters.)
Martin Short and Aidan Quinn are the latest additions to the seventh season of Showtime’s Weeds, which is now confirmed to pack the one-two punch of a time jump and a major change in location--to New York City.
Sneak Peek Photos from Weeds Season 7, Episode 7.02 "From Trauma Cometh Something" (July 4)
Pretty sure that this is a shot of Andy (Justin Kirk) and Shane (Alexander Gould) attempting to see Nancy in the half-way house. Note that 'Shane' does not have 'a mohawk' as show creator Jenji Kohan interviewed (above). Shane has a 'fauxhawk,' which combed a different way, would look like his 'normal' hair. Really can't say much about the mutton chop sideburns other than they look really fake and I doubt if they'll last more than an episode or two...
WEEDS - Showtime Season 7 Synopsis SPOILERS (after the jump):
As if Nancy's life wasn't filled with enough odd characters, the producers are looking for a slightly odd, well-off New York City attorney (they're thinking of a John Waters type) who takes on pro-bono cases in exchange for juicy prison gossip. Does he sell the gossip to the tabloids? Nope, he writes the stories down in a book — which he reads when he's sad, horny, or both...
EDIT 5.27.11/ In re: the casting description above and the Showtime Press Release from 5.26 (below): they both describe the role that of the 'eccentric attorney' that went to Martin Short (Damages).
Fortunately, on Weeds 'icky' can be turned into something quite funny. If they can make 'Uncle Andy' having his toe bitten off by a dog, funny which they did, then...
Be warned! There are both Weeds character and plot spoilers ahead!:
Thanks to the good folks that helm the Showtime site Weeds fans have a pretty good notion of what Nancy Botwin is up to and what her clan has been doing for the past three years--as she served time in prison(!) As season 7 gets underway, Nancy is on early release and if you don't want to be spoiled stop readng NOW.
Justin Kirk's character, 'Uncle" Andy Botwin, is the only adult cast member who doesn't have a spoiler-ish blurb about either what he's been doing for 3 years or what he plans to do once he reunites with Nancy in New York. Perhaps he's been busy running the University of Andy?
EDIT 5.23.11/ Oops! I should try reading my own posts! Previously, I noted along with where to see more revealing Mary-Louise shots, that the "Stevie' character was being recast!Yay! Now the question: where has little Stevie been for the past three years?/End Edit
Sadly, little Stevie Ray, Nancy's youngest son, who would be 3 or 4 years old now, is not even mentioned. I'm afraid he may be explained him away. He was so cute.

Nancy Botwin: Her life so far
The once naîve suburban soccer mom has certainly come a long way in six seasons. Widowed and left destitute with a family to raise, Nancy turned to drug dealing, then Mexican organized crime, then a wild ride through everyday America, all the while trying to keep her kids from becoming complete derelicts and her lovesick brother-in-law at bay. But fate finally caught up with her and she landed in the slammer. Now Nancy's trying to hit reset and make a fresh start for herself in the Big Apple, with only her wits and her wit to see her through.

Last we saw drug-dealing mom Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker), she was being led away in handcuffs at the airport after falsely confessing to the FBI that she killed a woman. Well, she’s still wearing the cuffs in this promotional photo for season 7, which premieres on Showtime on June 27 — and not much else. But like a clever magician’s assistant, she seems ready to slip herself loose at the first opportunity.
The Weeds countdown has begun in earnest and I for one, am quite jazzed that we again get to enjoy it over the summer, even if that means the occassional DVR-ing it. Summer TV can be more of a challenge to keep up with but the adventures of the Botwin family are pretty easy and fun to pick up, don't you think?
Weeds Casting News: Fastforward! Baby Stevie will be four years old when next we see him on Weeds, producers are seeking the particularly "focused and articulate" kids to audition for the role.
