"Valar Morghulis" PROMO PHOTOS:
I'm really enjoying NATALIE TENA ('Tonks' in the Harry Potter movies) as the Stark boys' protector, former wildling enemy, "Osha.' Without any prompting, she's done more than kill a guard to protect and shelter the boys, she's been very compassionate towards them. Her mettle is bound to be tested again as their 'adventure' continues in season 3.

Game of Thrones Season 2: Recap #16:
This episode may have been the most exciting and tension-filled hour of Game of Thrones yet simply because I had no idea what would happen next!
Despite having to missed a week of Bronn (Jerome Flynn) and Ser Jorah (Iain Glen), we had some scorching scenes with many of our favorites (it was Stark-and-psuedo-Stark-intensive).
The opening scene was heartbreaking:
Theon: I sent my men over the walls with grappling hooks and took the castle.
Bran: Why?
As a almost synched-in-time-with GAME OF THRONES (HBO) and current book reader, this was hands down the most tense episode of the season as half-way through I realized that seriously, I had NO IDEA what would happen next.
This episode had some rocking scenes. My highlights:
All of the interactions with Arya (Maisie Williams) and Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) were chock full of seriously great chemistry. And when they added Littlefinger to the mix it was nail-bittingly intense. (For my part, I have no doubt whatsoever that he recognized Arya. Think about who and what Littlefinger is.)
Kudos to the brilliant Mr. Dance, who knows full well the caveat about working with animals and children in film and is handing every scene to Maisie and her wonderful expression. His restraint is superb—he never dominates with too strong a delivery, or upstages her with menacing hand motions, or any other bits of theatrical business —he just serves up one home-run ball after another and lets her hit each one out of the park.
Arya and Jaqen:
The annoyed look on Jaqen’s (Tom Wlaschiha) face when a frantic Arya demands an immediate kill was perfect. And then Tywin opens the door and Lorch drops in--dead. Spot.on.
The Jon and Ygritte scene where Ygritte kept… “moving” was sweet and sexy. Despite it being a departure from the books, it made me smile.
Osha = badass/ good heart:
Bran, Rickon, Osha and Hodor escape Theon's Winterfell invasion, but to where?:
Game of Thrones Season 2: Recap #16 VIDEO:
The episode opens on a frantic maester Luwin, attempting to send an S.O.S. message via raven. He just gets it off when the Greyjoys arrive. Theon wakes Bran and tells him to assemble everyone in the courtyard, where he will yield Winterfell to him, 'Prince Theon.' Bran does as Theon requests.
Ser Rodrik is captured by Theon’s men outside Winterfell, as he is returning from Torrhen’s Square. He spits in Theon’s face and Dagmer urges Theon to execute him or the men will lose respect for him (He must 'pay the Iron Price.') Theon mulls this over briefly and then takes way too many whacks at poor Ser Rodrik's neck before kicking it off. Later that night, Osha seduces Theon. When he is asleep she sneaks out of his room, casually kills one of the guards and then smuggles Bran, Rickon and Hodor to safety.
***I know this would have changed the story too drastically but logically, why wouldn't Osha have 'casually killed' the sleeping Theon before she did the guard?"***
In King’s Landing, Tyrion, Cersei, Joffrey and Sansa are seeing princess Myrcella off to Dorne. On the way back to the Red Keep, the motley & starving villagers get restless, taunting the royals. Some horseshit finds it target on Joffrey. He loses his shit and demands the head of whomever threw it and from there, things degenerate into complete chaos. Joffrey, Tyrion and Cersei make it back to the castle safely, but Sansa, separated from the group, gets left behind. Tyrion slaps the boy king around a bit and berates him for causing this riot and potentially losing Sansa, reminding him--again--that Jaime's life and Sansa's are tied together. Sansa has been dragged away from the mob and is about to be gang-raped when The Hound, prompted we learn afterwards by Tyrion, slashes and crushes his way to her rescue.
In Robb’s camp we again glimpse 'Lady Talisa' as does the King of the North. Under much quieter circumstances than their first meeting on the battlefield, she and Robb flirt--then Catelyn arrives with Brienne. Catelyn is introduced to Talisa. Cat and Robb then walk-and-talk until Roose arrives with some really.bad. news. Robb is furious with Theon and is ready to march to Winterfell and take it back himself. Roose suggests he send his own bastard son from the Dreadfort instead, that he would be happy to bring him Theon’s head. Robb says he wants him alive, so he can look him in the eye and ask him ‘Why?’ before executing him himself.
At Harrenhal, Arya continues to serve Tywin Lannister as cupbearer. In a meeting with his men, Tywin berates Amory Lorch for bungling a simple letter delivery because he cannot read. He dismisses his men and then chats with Arya, after he learns that she can read. Littlefinger arrives to meet with Tywin. Arya does her best to remain unnoticed while Littlefinger proposes an alliance with the Tyrells. After Littlefinger leaves, Arya spots a letter about Robb on the table and, while Tywin’s back is turned, snatches it. Later with the letter in hand, she runs through the castle and literally runs into Amory Lorch. Amory notices the letter and gets suspicious. Arya fears she'll be caught and punished so she runs. Amory heads for Tywin while Arya desperately searches out Jaqen. She finds him, names Amory Lorch as her second name, demands he be killed--NOW-- and just as Amory makes it to Tywin’s door, he falls down dead.
Beyond the Wall, Qhorin’s band treks through the mountains, looking for wildlings. They spy a small scout camp and attack and kill all but one of the wildlings, a red-haired girl named Ygritte. Qhorin tells Jon to kill her and meet up with them at the top of the mountain. Jon hesitates--he can't do this--and Ygritte uses his moment of weakness to break and run for it. Jon chases and catches her, but they have lost Qhorin and the rest of his brothers. Darkness is descending upon them so after binding her, the two settle in for the long, cold night, huddled together on the ground.
Meanwhile in Qarth, Danareys is trying and failing to bargain with the Spice King for some ships. Though he finds her intriguing and spirited, he won't make such a risky investment. Dany and Xaro return to his mansion to find his guards slain. Dany runs through the courtyard up to her quarters, passing a dead bloodrider on the way, and finding an apparently dead Irri lying on the floor. Worst of all, her dragon's cages are empty. The closing shot shows a hooded figure walking the dragons up steep steps toward a ominous-looking tower, whilst the dragons, cloaked and caged, cry out.
The Best Scenes:
Change is good, right?
Many changes from the way things went down in the book in tonight’s episode. Arya almost runs into Littlefinger, then she kills off Amory Lorch. Theon executes Ser Rodrik then sleeps with Osha. Jon doesn’t let Ygritte go and instead chases her down then ends up getting separated from Qhorin. And, of course, Dany’s dragons get stolen. The changes from book to screen really added a lot of drama and tension to the episode.
Ser Rodrik: Death with dignity – This scene was truly hard to watch, especailly with the plaintive wails of both Bran and Ricken who, like the rest of the the captives, bore witness. Ser Rodrik went out with class tho', despite Theon not giving him the clean execution he deserved. First, he calmed Bran and Rickon and then called out Theon one last time. “Gods help you, Theon Greyjoy. Now you are truly lost.”
The super-fast murder of Amory Lorch – This had to be the lightest moment involving death in the series thus far. The Hound saves Sansa – The Hound was all kinds of awesome in his rescue of the nearly gang-raped Sansa. It was a scene only alluded to in the book so it was very satisfying seeing it played out.
And not-insignificantly we had...Direwolves! -- There were three direwolves. Ghost looks magnificent in the white-on-white setting he's in. We had a non-gratuitous Osha(!) (Natalia Tena) naked scene and an awesomely-rendered Joffrey-bitch-slap from Tyrion ( for inciting the mob ("Kill them all!") after some poo-flinging at the boy king on some low-born's part.
EMILIA CLARKE as DAENARYS in EPISODE #16 of GAME OF THRONES:
The less-than-Best Scenes:
As Dany talked longer and longer to the spice king, she seemed younger and younger and less and less powerful/confident, even when yelling her standard 'Fire and Blood' threat. And all of her gravitas disappeared when she made her most feared discovery at episode's end.
This season Daenarys is beginning to sound like as a whiny, demanding 'little princess' stamping her feet when she doesn’t get her way. A little girl that is completely out of her depth and is falling apart...not rising.
Even though I thought this was it... the trailer below, released June 16, 2011, is in fact, "the very last" preview TRAILER you shall get of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II prior to it's July 16 premiere:
I just finished watching this trailer approximately 47 times in order to secure some gasp-inducing screenshots which after you too find yourself pressing 'play again' again, you can take a leisurely look through.
Don't forget to enlarge them to full size in order to appreciate what is positively going to be the Harry Potter film that packs both the most emotional wallop as well as every other permutation of wallop imaginable. Oi, the soundtrack itself it just mind-bending! The soundtrack in a 2 minute clip!
Once again *ahem* Warner Bros. has released the latest spot for their epic wizard finale, which features the final face off between the absolute good of Harry Potter and the pure evil of Voldemort.
Directed by David Yates, the film strikes a tone of bleak darkness, yet contains the thread of hope that The Boy Who Lived can save the world, once and for all, from the Dark Arts uprising.
Helena Bonham Carter's fierce fashion individuality often suggests, nay insists, that there is much more to her than just a dressed-up thespian:
Helena Bonham-Carter seems to always dress in a way that expresses exactly who she is or feels like being at any given time. She looks like she is having fun with fashion--unlike so many of her peers who look as if they are enduring wearing whatever uber-fancy outfit their stylists have chosen for them for important (read: camera-friendly) events. IMO, Bonham-Carter never looks 'thrown together,' though others have snarked about how she doesn't appear to know how to match things properly (colours, a pair of shoes, etc.).
The stark reality is that in Bonham-Carter's day job in show business she is considered 'of a certain age' and that age means far fewer film roles as each year passes. She is smart and savvy to seque into something she enjoys (dressing up) that will pay the bills (face of Marc Jacobs!)
Actress Helena Bonham Carter has joined ...Victoria Beckham, Dakota Fanning and Sofia Coppola to become the latest face of U.S label Marc Jacobs.
The choice may seem like an odd one, especially as Helena is a devoted Vivienne Westwood fan, but perhaps talks began after Jacobs dressed the actress for the SAG awards...
But her mismatched style earned her a place on the Vanity Fair Best Dressed List last year.
The Harry Potter star, 44, who counts Marie Antoinette as one of her style icons, told the New York Daily News: 'It was a triumph! ....It made me laugh because I thought it was a joke when I found out.
'But when I saw the article, I thought, "Oh, the photos they've chosen are as bad as the ones they print when I'm worst dressed."'
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 new poster art, this time featuring the dragon from Gringotts that our heroes escape on.
This dragon guards the Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and when Harry Potter, Ron Weesly, and Hermione Granger go there in Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in their horcrux quest, they encounter the Gringott's dragon. As you might guess from the nifty banner, hilarity does not ensue.
I found this a very edge-of-your-seat book (title, same as film w/out 'Part 2') sequence for the young wizard trio, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it played out, outside of my imagination.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Synopsis:
The end begins when Harry goes back to Hogwarts to destroy the final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about the mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is again directed by British filmmaker David Yates, of Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince previously. The script was also written again by Steve Kloves, of Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, and also Half-Blood Prince, but not Order of the Phoenix. This is based on J.K. Rowling's phenominallypopular series of books which have already concluded. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 arrives in theaters in 2 and 3D starting on July 15th 2011.
This is it, Harry Potter fans - the very last preview peek you shall get (through official channels, anyway) of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2:
Warner Bros. has released the latest spot for their epic wizard finale, which features the final face off between the absolute good of Harry Potter and the pure evil of Voldemort. 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2' NEW TV Spot:
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2," is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here. WarnerBrosPictures May 13, 2011
Here's the official Warner Bros. clip of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" NEW TV Spot (5.13.11). I could have sworn that we'd already had a 'TV spot No. 1' but perhaps with all the hash-tagging something got lost in the translation. This does have some new dialogue. It's hard for me to tell sometimes just what part of the endless battle that is Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, our heroes as well as the big bads, are engaged in.
It's time for Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) to grow up and embrace his destiny. The Chosen One is done hiding behind his friends and mentors and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, his fate meets his future. He's learned everything there is to know, and Harry Potter is now ready to do what he was born to do -- destroy Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes)! In this new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 TV spot, Potter isn't the only one getting in on the action. Wizards are hopping on brooms and armies are marching to the beat of their own drums. The world is falling apart! The Dark Lord and his Death Eaters have gained more power than we could have ever imagined and Harry's in a serious race against time.
"Harry’s only hope is to find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds him. But as he searches for clues, he uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale -- the legend of the Deathly Hallows. And if the legend turns out to be true, it could give Voldemort the ultimate power he seeks." Oh, the drama! It looks like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 might be the finale to end all finales. The movie co-stars Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman. The film is directed by David Yates and will be released in 2D and 3D on July 15.
I LOVED this part of 'Deathly Hallows.' IMO, it was one of the high points of the book, 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows.'
Maybe I'll re-read it at Maple Lake this summer in my first two-week stint. My guess it will be playing somewhere up in the woods of Haliburton.
Hey. I just read that even though the Canadian Loonie has been kicking the American dollar exchange-wise for 4 years going now, the Canadians have to pay 20% more on most everyday and other stuff they buy, than their American counterparts. Not fair or justified, right?
This also means that vacationing in Canada has been no bargain for some time now--nothing is. (The article forgot to mention though that the Ontarians at least pay themselves better salaries than one would get in the U.S.).
An example of this occurs nas you are not even fully into Canada, as you cross the border into Canada on the Ambassador Bridge going from Detroit, Michigan, USA to Windsor, Ontario, CA. There's always been around a 20% more fee to get into the U.S. from Canada. (But Canada to the U.S. the same, I think?)

Remainder of article and more scanned photos after the jump!
(I would have scanned all the phot0s but the paper is so thin that the 'B' side of the page bleeds through. Credit to EW.com is in the link.)
Pretty freaking exciting, huh? This cool pic of Neville (after jump) brought back the memory of reading the passage in the book. Neville shows what he's really made of (hint: strong stuff) and it actually gave me a bit of a lump in my throat. This was I'm certain in part due to coming to know the character through the actor Matthew Lewis, who has been portraying him throughout the film series. It's a feel-good moment coloured with a great deal of sadness...can't wait to see it!
The Harry Potter UKFacebook page has posted this new poster from the forthcoming final installment of the Potter franchise, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' which shows Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) head-to-head with the Elder Wand between them.
I agree with this comment from EW (especially the 'light-and-stubble part'--very well-put! The ick factor is unmistakeably there.):
Note how the light catches Harry’s stubble… when you’re not mesmerized by Voldemort’s fingernail. I also love that they went with this strong image, with the wand at the center and the line “IT ALL ENDS 7.15″ and didn’t care that it left no room for the title of the movie....

First Look featurette for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II:
This 'featurette' for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II shows some never before seen footage from the final installment while interviewing cast and crew. The general consensus seems to be that this last installment will be loaded with thrilling action sequences.
I'm not a Harry Potter fanatic but this little taste of Deathly Hallows part 2 gave me chills. Without resorting to exaggeration, I think this film may be remembered in years to come as one of the best Harry Potter films in the series, if not THE best. I seriously cannot wait for it to come out!
However, other that the youngest child that can be sold on anything it is absolutely unnecessary to see it in 3D as the trailer urges. 3D movies are not going to 'save' the movies. Good movies will. IMO, nothing replaces the movie theatre experince and unlike complaints that people usually voice about why not to go--which mostly have to do with 'other' people and the noise or mess they make, there are so few people attending that I've found that they are not a problem at all.
Even Deathly Hallows part I on it's second weekend had plenty of seating, certainly no lines. I was amazed that it's numbers were said to be so good. I live in a Northwest (of Chicago) suburban area. I admit that I do enjoy no crowds but I worry 'no crowds at the theatre' will spell the end of the movie theatre experience.
Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Daniel Radcliffe all attempt some common phrases, with pretty funny results.

Much thanks to the number one source for all things Harry Potter,The Leaky Cauldron. On their site you'll find easy access to everything, including what came before what is currently being referred to as "DH: Part 1" (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1).
As fansites go, it is and excellent with navigation a cinch and constant updates of fresh material. I've collected some links that I think I'll slowly go through as the debut of "DH: Part 1" grows ever-closer.
We (me, the kid, the spouse) plan to see it on one of "everyone's" rare days off, when I hope that most everyone else will be out shopping (yeah, riiiight). I like the synchronicity of going to see "DH: Part 1" on the day after American Thanksgiving - Black Friday. Something about that date just seems right. ;)
We have recently added many new videos featuring the Harry Potter actors in our Video Galleries, most of them, of course relating to the release of "Deathly Hallows: Part 1." There are many brief interviews with the cast of "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" on different aspects of the movie:
How would you describe Bellatrix? She's obviously as bonkers as they come. There's a bit of a child-like madness there. I did regress a bit as her. It sort of happened naturally. It's easy for me to go back to being a kid. You know how kids can be like savages before they get civilized? There's that sadist quality. Y'know, like boys who like to pick apart an insect for the sake of it.
And that describes Bellatrix for you? Oh yes. She's a sadist. She's very sick. She's got problems. I think she's been in prison a bit too long. But I suspect even before prison she had problems. She's a racist, obsessed with blood purity. Like Adolf. And she's in love with Voldemort, really.
In a lot of Phoenix promos, Warner has been playing up that image of Bellatrix threatening Neville Longbottom (played by Matthew Lewis) with her wand. I did something terrible. By mistake, I poked him in his ear. I thought I could brandish the wand like a sort of Q-tip, and clean out his ear. Sort of torture it. But unfortunately he moved toward the wand as I was prodding it. And it actually perforated his eardrum. Isn't that horrific? I damaged him! He's such a nice young man, he didn't admit to me that he actually had some internal bleeding about three days later.
So you didn't even know you'd injured him at the time? No. And it wasn't permanent. But there was pain, and blood. Well, torture happens. Sorry! Oops! I think I took my sadism a bit too literally.
Wow — that's an interesting bit of improv. Stupid, though! Dangerous! I did feel awful when they told me.
Did you get a chance to apologize to Matthew later, once you found out what had happened? Oh yeah. But he was deaf, so he couldn't hear me. [Laughs wildly]
(Scabior and Fenrir Greyback)
The mind boggles thinking about how much they are spending on the avalanche of this stuff...but you just know they'll be selling them and you simply must collect each one.

Wow! Are the publicity people hemorrhaging these images or what?!
Jebus! There is no way that anyone but the most devoted Muggle could ever keep up with the volume. My hard drive is sagging under the weight of all these!
So what d'ya think? (Make sure to click through--All of the Cast Promotional Posters are Hi-Res and many are super-duper big!)
One thing I can't get over is how hairy Harry is! I'm not trying to be funny. Little Harry grew up to be a very hirsute man! Another thing is when photos are blown up as big as some of these--the makeup is really evident--especially wounds. Only the guy with the severe scarring looks like he sustained the wounds. Photoshopping is really noticeable too. In the film with movement (obviously) I don't think these nitpicky things will be evident tho'.
Another observation is that there seems to be quite a mish-mash of photographers involved here--as well as at least one artist who went really, really dark. I don't think anyone is going to even be faintly surprised that HP & TDH is DARK.
Some of the production photos are awesome. For instance, the one of Ron Weasley peering around the corner of a big building in the city looked absolutely uninteresting as I saw it before but now--with a huge crew filming--it's fascinating! Harry running through the woods with a camera crew parallel to him atop what looks like train tracks about 15 feet away is pretty cool as well.
The process of lighting a scene always fascinates me. The snowy photo with a regular scene playing out in the lower 2/3's of the pic with a humongous light looming overhead is pretty spectacular, too. Take some time and click through all of them. They are full-size and worth the time!

Please Forgive Me.* I was completely consumed with True Blood** and let everything else go to pot. The descriptive name of this blog is spot on.
So. OMG! Some of these hugetastic stills are so neat! It's been years since I've read "Deathly Hallows" but the hype promotional campaign has me considering a re-read--only this time I'll skip the last chapter which I well and truly hated. I had no desire whatsoever to see the Potter kids middle-aged. And please, that dumb Ron with brainy Hermoine. Cute, but I expected soooo much more from her. Hooking up with Ron as if she were some common Muggle...Um, right. Big letdown, J.K. The stills from that portion (which are not here) are positively gruesome.
Check out these brand new Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1 posters courtesy of Yahoo Movies. This fine trio boasts action poses from the holy trinity of Harry, Hermoine and the ginger one. Bloody brilliant!
It’s not long to go now before the first instalment comes to our screens marking the beginning of the end of one of the most successful film and literature series in the history of the whole wide world! It’s exciting but sad at the same time, no?

before Voldemort finds him. But as he searches for clues, he uncovers an
old and almost forgotten tale-the legend of the Deathly Hallows. And if
the legend turns out to be true, it could give Voldemort the ultimate
power he seeks.
Little does Harry know that his future has
already been decided by his past when, on that fateful day, he became
"the Boy Who Lived." No longer just a boy, Harry Potter is drawing ever
closer to the task for which he has been preparing since the day he
first stepped into Hogwarts: the ultimate battle with Voldemort.

Everything looks very exciting...the music is fantastic, the set looks amazing, the actors look...grown up!
I don't think there are going to be enough superlatives to describe this film by the time it premieres, just before American Thanksgiving. Hard to believe, but some people are surprised that the cast has aged over the near-decade that the Potter films have been a part of the HP franchise but hey, look in the mirror--you have, too!
Just had a convo with my now-almost 18 y.o. son about Harry Potter (the franchise). As I mentioned previously, he had to age into the books which were first issued when he was nine years-old, before he began the series. I'd heard at the time that they were more appropriate for age 12-and-up, not that he expressed desire to read them then.
He started reading and re-reading them at about age 11 and the films starting being released then, too. We've seen all the films so far at the theatre (also, hard to avoid if you have pay cable TV) and I've read most of the books. (I think it was "Azkaban" that I simply couldn't plow through--liked the film tho'.)
Even though she created an interesting universe with intriguing characters I was never particularly impressed with Joanne Rowling's writing chops but, not wanting to discourage my kid's reading endeavor didn't say so at the time. Seems now my son holds the same opinion. He's read hundreds of books over his 17 years, maybe 1000 or more, so I think he's qualified to espouse that opinion.
Though only fractionally the reader of my son, I'm sort of picky about book details and he is, too. Part of our convo involved Rowling's retconning in regard to the Horcruxes, which are prominent in the last two Harry Potter films. Retconning--to change details of something already published to make them fit with what you are now writing--is annoying. Another bit that is a puzzle to me that the animals that the kids kept close had no special connection to them beyond being pets. They were notfamiliars, they were simply pets. My son cited the fact that the pets had free will with the example of when Harry mistreated Hedwig and Hedwig took off for a period before giving Harry a chance to feel better about driving him away. A familiar couldn't/wouldn't do so.
Just the same, we are definitely seeing the films. The supporting characters, almost all British, have been fantastic over the years and I expect they'll be no less so in both parts of "The Deathly Hallows."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Official Full Trailer [720 P HD]
So yeah, It appears Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows is coming out in time for American Thanksgiving as well as my birthday. How kind of them!
Eh sorry, I just waded through a fraction of the over 5000 comments on this trailer that have sprung up like ragweed since it was posted (checks) 20 hours ago.
"The greatest movie of a generation" is what the official trailer touts. Hmm. The generation would have to be (roughly) those under age 25, right? I keep track of this stuff very scientifically. My youngest son was just a couple years too young when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone came out in book form but because the film lagged for a year or two in getting made he was old enough for the 2001 film installment Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. He'd also read the book by that time.
The consensus seems to be that the first three "Potter" films were pretty great. Then IV and V were weak in places and No. VI, "Half-Blood Prince" sort of kicked the franchise in the ass and made it great again.
I was entertained by "Half-Blood Prince." Both the film and the book are in fact my favourites of the series. Whether one's choice for favourite Harry Potter book or whether one has even read the book must have bearing on how one rates the films so in that respect I think I'm rather an average viewer.
The promotion of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows is very much like that of "Half-Blood Prince." It gets the chills going at times--but the soundtrack has a big influence on that as well (In January 2010, composer Alexandre Desplat was confirmed to produce the score for Harry
Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.)
Voldemort long ago however devolved into a campy, non-scary thing for me. Maybe he was built up so much that there's no way for him to be as terrifying on film as he is on the page. We shall see. November is a long way away and there is going to be a ton(ne) of promotional stuff set to generating more frenzy. I'll try to keep up with it. And yes, of course I'll be seeing the films.Generally, I see them at the theatre twice.
BTW, 3D for Harry Potter is silly overkill. I'm afraid we are gonna have to ride the "3-D is the future of film" stupidity out for a few years before the studios realize that this way of wringing more $ out of the audience is not worth it--almost across the board thus far. It takes a unique film to be perfectly suited to 3-D--and just how many unique films are even being offered? Certainly nowhere near all the ones that profess to be.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I in theaters on November
19th, 2010.
Warning: The opening of this trailer includes an iconic and surprising moment
between Harry and Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Those of you who’ve
read the final Harry Potter book know exactly which scene I’m
talking about, but those of you whohaven’t — those of you
who’ve only consumed Harry Potter as a cinematic experience,
and not a literary one — may find this scene to be a big honking
spoiler. Indeed, pretty much all of the footage ahead, and my thoughts
on it, aren’t for those who prefer to see Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows with virgin eyes. For the rest of you: Accio

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part
One begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission
to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort's immortality and
destroy the Horcruxes. On their own, without the guidance of their
professors or the protection of Professor Dumbledore, the three friends
must now rely on one another more than ever. But there are Dark Forces
in their midst that threaten to tear them apart.
Meanwhile, the
wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark
Lord. The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort's Death Eaters seize
control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and
arresting anyone who might oppose them. But the one prize they still
seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter. The Chosen One
has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with
orders to bring him to Voldemort... alive.
Harry's only hope is
to find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds him. But as he searches for
clues, he uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale-the legend of the
Deathly Hallows. And if the legend turns out to be true, it could give
Voldemort the ultimate power he seeks.
Little does Harry know
that his future has already been decided by his past when, on that
fateful day, he became "the Boy Who Lived." No longer just a boy, Harry
Potter is drawing ever closer to the task for which he has been
preparing since the day he first stepped into Hogwarts: the ultimate
battle with Voldemort.

I can't imagine that these would be spoilers but in case you have come to Harry Potter late in the game and you have not read the "Epilogue" to "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" then perhaps you should not read any further.
The Epilogue was so unnecessary. Rowling was terribly ill-advised to continue when she should have left things as they were. Must have been keeping with her inability to self-edit as with each Potter book that got fatter the very health of youngsters heaving it around with them was threatened
I can't even remember the Epilogue clearly, I was so disgusted by it.
Is it 30 years later? From the looks of this bunch in these set photos it appears as if they've aged 100 years, especially the men.
I'm not exaggerating. They look perfectly awful. Perhaps I'll exit the theatre just as the Epilogue starts. I was sort of hoping they'd leave it out of the film.
This so reminds me of LOST (it seems many things do these days). LOST should have ended when Jack laid down to die with Vincent beside him. But noooo! The audience needed to be hammered over the head with the message! It's about LOVE! And LIFE! And DEATH! And REBIRTH!
And so the message in Harry Potter 7's epilogue is that life goes on and good friends stay together forever.
The music soundtrack within a film is inextricably tied to the memory of that film.
The best soundtrack music can bring a film to soaring heights, impossible to reach otherwise, lifting the viewer out of her seat and into another life enabling escape from everyday existence, if only for a couple of hours.
Now comes the Harry Potter series, moving into it's sixth film, with what would have been the penultimate film in the series if not for the planned rendering of "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows" into two films to better preserve the very last chapters of the phenomenally
successful children's fantasy series by J.K. Rowling.
Unsurprisingly, given his acclaimed efforts in his only previous scoring for Harry Potter, 2007’s “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," composer Nicholas Hooper admirably succeeds in accomplishing this task in his score for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, one which is as grand in scope as the books themselves.
Composer Hooper first stepped into "Potterworld" when director David Yates took over the series with the aforementioned "Order of the Phoenix.” Scoring “Half-Blood Prince,” Hooper expands upon the themes that he and previous composers in the series had already established while contributing a slew of fresh new ones suitable to this darker outing.
The soundtrack features reprisals of the menacing “Possession” theme from “Order of the Phoenix” which Hopper notes is used to connect Voldemort/Tom Riddle to both Harry Potter and Prof. Dumbledore. Listen for it's foreboding sound woven into the score, especially in the second half of "Half Blood Prince."
Astute listeners will recognize several touches of John Williams' previous contributions including "Hedwig's Theme" and a snippet of "The Quidditch Match."
Williams' impossible-to-miss signature sound can also be heard in "Ron's Victory" and "Of Love and War."
In a film that carries so much emotional weight the magic and wonder of "Ron's Victory" as well as “Inferi in the Firestorm” are crucial to bring balance to the film.
Draco Malfoy, who assumes a critical role in "Half-Blood Prince," has earned his own theme, "Malfoy's Mission," which as composer Hooper notes, is intended to denote "mystery, evil, and sadness." If you've read Half-Blood Prince you'll agree that indeed Malfoy is in a constant emotional flux regarding this rite of passage mission.
Further plumbing emotions is a new composition, “In Noctem” which encompasses much of the emotional weight of the film, while “Ron’s Victory” and “Inferi in the Firestorm” evoke the sense of wonder and magic prominent in the earlier films.
With the “Half-Blood Prince” score, Hooper successfully manages to convey the enigmatic and the fancy juxtaposed against mischievousness and hopelessness. The result is no less than magic.
Without being so informed I would have had no clue that Nicholas Hooper has now made the Harry Potter franchise's composer roster a triad and that he was not with the series from the start. Composer Hooper has made the series a part of his repertoire as if it were always so while bringing past Potter themes into the series with seeming effortlessness.
It is important I think that viewers keep in mind that the Harry Potter films are now a large body of work which began with 2001’s “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” and as such needs to have an over-arching sense of being "as one" musically.
This gives the audience, be they listeners or viewers a real sense of how these characters have matured since the young trio arrived wide-eyed and innocent at Hogwart's Academy.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" contains no less than three love themes, "Ginny" within which is the previously-noted snippet of the signature "Hedwig's Theme," "Harry and Hermione," and "When Ginny Kissed Harry."
While keeping the long-running series' music integral to it's characters growth, Hooper also keeps flowing the continuity which carries the viewer along while reminding us just how far we all have come on this journey with Harry and Company.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" is in stores now. It is composed by Nicholas Hooper. The film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and and Michael Gambon, is now playing at your local theater.
EDIT to add: A great little video clip from the scoring of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince which takes you behind the scenes to watch conductor/orchestrator Alistair King and orchestrator Jeff Atmajian as they score composer Nicholas Hooper’s opening track to the film.
There are never-before bits of scenes in this bunch, though to be fair there is much overlap from what has been already released. Certainly the new stuff is compelling. I mean who does not want to see that snooty Draco Malfoy get SPOILER!!!!
zapped by Harry Potter, right?
I'm still uber excited about seeing the film in it's entirety as well as grateful (you'll find out why soon enough) to have some context to the soundtrack.
Oooh, this clip, "Field Confrontation" is superb. Bellatrix Lestrange (the always fun-to-watch Helena Bonham Carter) is at her Lestrangest.
I get goosebumps watching this. The actors, the set--the score. Magnificent. As I've said as I've happily posted the dozen or so trailers, promos, clips, sneak peeks, what have you ove the past few months,"Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince"/Book 6 of 7 in the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, is my favourite Harry Potter book.
Scope Out The Short HBO "First Look"
If you scroll down and watch thetwo-part HBO First Look you get an inkling of the care that went in to the making of this film. Everyone seems on top of their game and though the expression we are "like family" certainly has been overused I think not in this case where you have the actors returning time and again all the more experienced at inhabiting their characters and refining those character's relationships. This is going to be an excellent film. Don't skip past the HBO clips as they have scenes not in any of the trailers thus far--truly new scnes in the HBO short First Look below.
Yes, who is the "Half-blood Prince?" If you read the book you'll know. Even if you have watched a particular character in the films you may suspect. I truly am glad that I finally gave in and read the books, not only to understand more completely what my son was talking about but because they were quite a treat and they've made anticipating the films all the more enjoyable.
The "Extremely Dangerous" clip is after the jump. It has quite a bit of overlap with previously released clips but there is a brand-new shot of the Weasley Twins' Joke Shop.
Sometimes I wish I could clone myself--though the world is probably not ready for that--so I could better stay on top of things like 13 Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince Promos and Trailers being released. This happens all the time though not with this much alarming frquency, that studios be they movie or television unleash gobs of promo materials all at once. I realize that the idea is to saturate every form of media known to man but just the same...anyway a new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film clip was just released! When I saw that though it's called #12, including the MTV clip we now have thirteen Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Previews out. I checked my blogs and I cannot find all twelve but I can go back to seven which leads me to conclude that I need to get numbers 8-12 up, which are in this post--plus for good measure the MTV clip--which I did post (must have been a fluke, lol). I'm very much looking forward to "...Half-Blood Prince" because it is my favourite Potter book and because it guarantees Alan Rickman (Prof. Snape) lots of screen time and that has to be a good thing. So here you go. Enjoy!
Twelfth ‘Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince’ TV Spot - THE CAVE
Among the many wonderful things I missed by not watching the 2009 MTV Movie Awards was this very cool (I mean that sincerely) exclusive trailer from the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince film, which is based on Book 4, my favourite in the Harry Potter series.
It's never too late to start reading the Potter series. I didn't get motivated enough until I'd seen the second film. I'd tried reading the first book of the series and I couldn't get into it. Now that I've read them all, I've become quite geeky about the films. I'm looking forward to "Half-Blood Prince" very much!
Clip from Showbiz News(Sky News) showing the extended version of Ron Weasley in love for Romilda Van scene.
Thanks to lillywmw!
This is mostly new material being released as the runup to HP: The Half Blood Prince.
You may have seen some parts of the clips, but the behind the scenes and commentaries from cast and crew are quite good as is the very funny extended scene of Ron and Harry after (SPOILER) Ron goes under the influence of tainted cupcakes, unbeknownst to Harry.
..or at least that's how it feels. In a good way! There are just all kinds of new features that the talented, smart, and creative team at Six Apart have been offering up that really lend themselves to easy and painless customization and making and joining conversation with some fascinating folks and other good stuff--like this fun Q and A from TypePad.
I think it's another new feature here at TypePad but I loved a similar one at Vox (which I must say I'm not getting over to as much as I 'd like).
Here's the Q: Blockbuster season starts this weekend with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Next up: Angels & Demons, The Transformers, Harry Potter, Star Trek and Land of the Lost. Which summer mega-hit are you most looking forward to?
Star
Trek: My dad, nerdy science dude that he is/was "force-fed" the
original Star Trek series to me. It was on in the morning, I think on a
UHF station(!) The concept of a peaceful universe, beaming up and
phasers and the Prime Directive was cool but I was not a big fan of the
show. Later, I enjoyed most of TNG and the often-ignored Deep Space
Nine. I didn't initially watch the first season of Star Trek: The Next
Generation because I disliked the original Star Trek, most especially
Shatner as Kirk. I'm being truthful when I say he makes me gag. Spock
was always cool and Scotty and McCoy were amusing. Not seeing it unless
someone I know is dying to see it.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: How big a part does Dom Monaghan have? I
miss him since he was killed off LOST. Hugh Jackman is cute n' angsty
but he alone couldn't get me in the theater to watch it. Possibly, I
may take my kid if he wants to go. The one Jackman did with Anna Paquin
(were there two?) was OK.
Transformers: Probably yeah 'cos my first son was devoted to the
original TV show when he was little so I watched, too (spent a fortune
on transforming cars and trucks) and I've seen newer incarnations
through my younger son. I've always dug the transforming sound and that
cars and trucks could turn into robots. It was a pretty cool show. I'm
curious to know if they'll keep Shia's seriously busted-up hand hidden
as he broke it off-set, but while filming, I believe. Still gets
surgery on it. Yikes.
Angels & Demons: No.
Harry Potter: Have read and watched the film series so far so, yes.
EDIT/Igot this confused with Land of the Giants.
The plot of land of the Lost appears the similar except this is a Will Ferrell comedy./end edit
Land of the Lost: Did not even hear about this one 'till the other day.
I watched the teevee show (again, in the mornings on UHF, the public
television channel). Depends on who is in it and what the reviews are
like. I haven't missed the show but they could probably do some cool
things with it.
TVGuide video interview with Dom Monaghan about Wolverine and his "Easter Egg" part in it.
Saw Harry Potter 5 today with spouse and son (My mostly picture review opinion (with pics/poster) follows).
I would've been happier if Imelda Staunton as the Very Mean Dolores Umbridge traded screen time with Helena Bonham Carter because it could've been great fun seeing Bellatrix Lestrange live up to her name.
I would've given Imelda Staunton less screen time. She was too...pink. (I realize Dolores Umbridge was supposed to be annoying and she was. But more so, it's Imelda Staunton who'snot an actress I enjoy seeing perform). *shrug*
Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Helena Bonham Carter
It was good to see the Weasley's get more face time (except for Mom. What's Julie Walters now, chopped liver? Give her some lines! ).
Great that the underrated Gary Oldman, playing Harry's godfather Sirius Black has quite a bit of screen time. The foreshadowing was pretty heavy-handed at moments but at those times a terrific actor like Oldman can elevate the enjoyment of what would otherwise be typical father-figure-substitute tug-at-your-heart scenes. Luckily, Harry has more than one as Sirius seems to have extremely long runs of bad luck. Repeatedly.
There's been a pervasive gloom in this and in the Potter IV film that feels to me, to borrow from author J.S. Foer, like "heavy boots." I understand that the movies reflect the darkness of the book series. But as a movie-goer the impending doominess does not get me stoked to see things get even more gloomy. Maybe I'm just a happily-ever-after chick. At least in my fantasies.
The triad of Potter, Weasley, and Granger barely have a light moment in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix and for me--as the viewer not reader of Harry Potter, etc. knowing there is more death almost certainly to come I feel like ugh, let's get it over with then.
