Showtime surprises with 'Dexter' early return as lead-in to 'Ray Donovan' @SHO_Dexter @SHO_Kareem

Dexter Returns for Season 8 in June!

This is one I didn't see coming, but according to Showtime boss David Nevins' announcement at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, the hit drama will debut three months earlier than usual on Sunday, June 30 at 9/8c, where it will lead into a brand new Showtime original drama.

The Showtime hit is moving to summer for what could be its final season. Dexter season 8 will debut June 30 at 9 p.m. to serve as a lead-in for Showtime’s new series Ray Donovan, which stars Liev Schreiber as a professional “fixer” for the rich and famous.

Showtime's entertainment president assures that the Dexter team will still have plenty of time to create a strong season. “They had a lot of advance warning [that this was happening] and they know where they’re going,” he said. “No less production time; a little less vacation time.”

Dates released for more NEW and returning Showtime Original Programming:

In addition to the big news that Dexter fans have only to wait five more months for season 8 to commence, Nevins announced that Showtime's Golden Globe & Emmy award-winning thriller Homeland, will return for its third season Sept. 29 and will be paired with the new Masters and Johnson period drama Masters of Sex.

More 2013 dates from Showtime: Shameless, House of Lies and Californication premiered on Sunday, January 13; Nurse Jackie and The Borgias April 14; The Big C: Hereafter will conclude the series starting April 29. Web Therapy will be on sometime this summer. Episodes will return early 2014. Here’s a video preview of Ray Donovan and Masters:

Update! 'Shameless' and 'Episodes' on Showtime - Renewed for Season 2! @SHO_Episodes @SHO_Shameless

 

As hoped for, the good news arrived today: 'Shameless' has been confirmed as renewed for a second season!

This fantastic news comes on the heels of the previously-released BBC-report that Matt LeBlanc's half-hour Showtime comedy lead-in 'Episodes', was picked up for a second season as well.

Here are the details and the official Showtime announcement on the second season pick-up for Shameless and Episodes:

You can count on spending more time with the Gallagher family and “Matt LeBlanc,” now that Showtime has renewed both Shameless and Episodes for second seasons.

“The viewer loyalty and critical acclaim that has met both [these shows] since their January debuts makes it clear that these two brash and sophisticated series are burgeoning hits,” Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said in announcing the pick-ups. “[Shameless EP] John Wells is carving out a tone that is truly unique in the television landscape — equal parts drama and comedy. And Episodes marks the universally embraced and hilarious return to television of an inspired comedy triumvirate: Matt LeBlanc, and creators Jeffrey Klarik and David Crane. We are thrilled with the response to both series and eager to start planning for their second seasons.”

Shameless — which with nearly four million weekly viewers across multiple platforms is on pace to be Showtime’s second-highest rated drama series (behind Dexter) — was granted a 12-episode order for Season 2. The episode count for Episodes is at this time “TBD.”

Production on both shows’ sophomore runs will start later this year with an eye on 2012 premieres.
