I nominate this episode as the most bizarre so far of Californication season 6, not specifically because of Marilyn Manson's guest starring turn, but because by bringing him and Tim Minchin as Atticus Fetch together, the level of oddness/insanity reaches completely new heights.
Even so, 'normal' family problems are brewing in the Hank-Becca-Karen family unit. Becca is still rebelling, going to great lengths to imitate her father's bad behaviour. An intervention involving Manson is staged and the results are pretty much what any functional person would expect.
With Charlie having realized that he still loves Marcy there is fertile ground to be mined--well maybe the ground isn't fertile anymore but it certainly is 'familiar,' as Marcy puts it.
Tune in Sunday night on Showtime to share in the craziness!

Californication episode 6.03 'Dead Rock Stars' with Steve Jones, Maggie Grace, Tim Minchin & David Duchovny. this is an incredibly amusing scene.
If you, like me, have been following the on again/off again romance (mostly off) of Californication's Hank (David Duchovny) and Karen (Natascha McElhone) then by the season 5 finale you may have been getting your hopes up that finally the two might have a chance at a lasting reunification.
Since by now you've watched the first episode of Californication season 6 (and maybe even the second episode if you watch new episodes of CALIFORNICATION on Mondays a week early on Showtime On Demand and Showtime Anytime: http://youtu.be/i1UGP0meZZI) you know that that wish pretty much went the route of dear, demented Carrie (last seen on life-support).
I wish I could tell you it will get better but alas, it gets much worse, albeit in a very entertaining way.
By episode 3, Hank is discovered by Karen, half-naked and passed out with many other people of both sexes in a room filled with every element you would expect of wild debauchery. Rehab for Hank = epic fail. But don't lose hope as great opportunities are awaiting Hank--he just needs to get used to the notion of his book being turned into a rock opera on Broadway.
Hank (DAVID DUCHOVNY) reluctantly heeds the advice from his family
and friends, but muse to many-a-rock-star, Faith (MAGGIE GRACE) may be
his light at the end of the tunnel. Charlie (EVAN HANDLER) runs into
out-and-proud movie star Robbie Mac (JOHANN URB) and finds himself
taking drastic action in order to land the Oscar® winner at UTK. Marcy
(PAMELA ADLON) loses her resolve with Stu (STEPHEN TOBOLOWSKY), while
Karen (NATASCHA MCELHONE) lands a new job.

Surprise, mother f**ker! Dexter Returns for Season 8 in June!
This is one I didn't see coming, but according to Showtime boss David Nevins' announcement at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, the hit drama will debut three months earlier than usual on Sunday, June 30 at 9/8c, where it will lead into a brand new Showtime original drama.
Dexter and Ray Donovan Summer 2013
The return of Dexter and the premiere of Ray Donovan Sunday, June 30th only on Showtime.
Check out this NEW Video (above) that catches you up with Dexter's NEW schedule as well as the Liev Schreiber vehicle, 'Ray Donovan.'

The Showtime hit is moving to summer for what could be its final season. Dexter season 8 will debut June 30 at 9 p.m. to serve as a lead-in for Showtime’s new series Ray Donovan, which stars Liev Schreiber as a professional “fixer” for the rich and famous.
Showtime's entertainment president assures that the Dexter
team will still have plenty of time to create a strong season. “They
had a lot of advance warning [that this was happening] and they know
where they’re going,” he said. “No less production time; a little less
vacation time.”
Dates released for more NEW and returning Showtime Original Programming:
In addition to the big news that Dexter fans have only to wait five more months for season 8 to commence, Nevins announced that Showtime's Golden Globe & Emmy award-winning thriller Homeland, will return for its third season Sept. 29 and will be paired with the new Masters and Johnson period drama Masters of Sex.
More 2013 dates from Showtime: Shameless, House of Lies and Californication premiered on Sunday, January 13; Nurse Jackie and The Borgias April 14; The Big C: Hereafter will conclude the series starting April 29. Web Therapy will be on sometime this summer. Episodes will return early 2014. Here’s a video preview of Ray Donovan and Masters:
MASTERS OF SEX and RAY DONOVAN, the newest additions to the critically-acclaimed and award-winning slate of original series from Showtime, will premiere in 2013.

Californication : A Really Strong Drink - Sneak Peek VIDEO Episode 6.01:
Hank wakes up in the hospital.
Not unlike another popular Showtime 30-min. comedy which left it's penultimate season on a 'cliffhangar' about if the main character was dead from a bullet to the head, so the mystery of whether Hank Moody (DAVID DUCHOVNY) survives the attempted murder-suicide of his bitter ex-gf, Carrie (NATALIE ZEA) wasn't too big of a question. The larger question is how will Hank 'be' after this near death encounter? I'm betting the answer is similar to the one about the previously mentioned 'Weeds' character 'Nancy Botwin' (Mary-Louise Parker). Hank too, will eventually go back to being who we have always known --and loved him to be--a scoundrel.
Hank's living nightmare...his life after almost death.

Season 5 of Californication ended in a rather dark place: Hank (David Duchovny) was (possibly fatally(!) drugged by a bitter/crazy ex-girlfriend and based on the exclusive first look at Season 6, things will remain dark when the show resumes — at least for a little while.
"We pick up days after that in the hospital, where Hank has survived but she hasn't," Duchovny says. "This season kind of begins with Hank spiraling down."
"We go to rehab, but it's really just for comedic purposes," Duchovny says.
The video also offers you a first look at some of this season's guest stars. Tim Minchin plays a rock star wanting Hank's help in develop his book God Hates Us All into a Broadway musical.
Marilyn Manson and Maggie Grace play some of the characters Hank encounters in the rock 'n' roll world. Other treats in the clip: Charlie (Evan Handler) pretends to be gay to land a big client who wants a new agent ("gaygent") and Karen (Natascha McElhone) and Marcy (Pamela Adlon) are roomates.
Jorge Garcia will join the previously announced Maggie Grace in the new season of Showtime’s Californication.
Grace
has signed to play Faith, a groupie who develops a relationship with
Hank Moody (David Duchovny). Later, her fellow Lost costar Garcia will
make an appearance in one episode as an old contact from her past.
Garcia last appeared in the short-lived Fox drama Alcatraz from J.J.
Abrams.

It looks like Hank (David Duchovny) is literally going to be haunted by ex-girlfriend Carrie (Natalie Zea), who, after Hank broke up with her and left for California, burned down his New York apartment, then stalked Hank in California. Carrie's final destructive act, spiking Hank's drink with a potentially lethal amount of prescription drugs could prove the impetus for Hank to finally clean up his act. Can he, will it take, and would a sober Hank be a fun Hank?

EDIT/ April 2:
That was pretty intense!
It was sweet for about 5 minutes with Marcy and Charlie being thrown back together due to their significances' cheating on them with each other plus the long-anticipated reunion of Hank and Karen before Hank's 'one drink' with psycho ex-girlfrind, firestarter "Carrie' (Nataliee Zea) threw a HUGE monkeywrench into things.

David Duchovny as "Hank Moody' in Californication episode 5.11 'The Party':
I like how when you pair the TVGuide.com synopsis with the official Showtime one that you get a more juicy synopsis for each episode. :)
So...it's looks like Hank has--again--decided to move back to New York. I'm assuming that choice was made _prior_ to his finding Karen's new-ish husband "Richard' (Batesy") getting a bj from his AA sponsor, Gabriel. Hank and Karen have done their ritual flirtatious dance all season with Karen demurring each time things begin to heat up by emphatically stating that she is married. Will Hank disclose to Karen Richard's transgression? It would certainly seem that now that Richard is sober that he'd be making better choices and this now makes twice recently that he's cheated on Karen, one time each, with both sexes. It would seem logical that Hank's estimation of 'Batesy's' fitness for Karen must have by now plummeted which would open the door a bit to Hank's wedging himself into Karen's life a little more fully. We'll see.
Meanwhile, Becca's obnoxious-but-talented writer boyfriend Tyler has gotten on Hank's last nerve by engaging in at a minimum, close contact with Kali. Will Hank finally give Hank wannabe Tyler the ass-beating he has so richly diserved--first 'hand'. From the preview, it sure looks like it! Stay tuned for big fun tonight on Californication @10:30 on Showtime!

Hank's rendezvous with a leading lady puts his movie in jeopardy.
Last week's eppy of Californication, 5.07, really hit a home run. To sum up: I fell in love with David Duchovny fully and completely (1st time since X-Files(!) again. His droll delivery of some of the most outrageous dialogue is unaparaelled. Also, guest star Drea DeMatteo who I would love to see guest appear again (here, Sons of Anarchy---anywhere) as 'Holly' the stripper that 'Banksy' ('Richard' played by Jason Beghe) picked up and did the nasty with while on a bender was very well cast and funny as hell.
Through misguided guilt pangs, Hank helps Richard cover up his misdeed(s) and when the stripper shows up at Karen and Richard's house, Hank and she pretend that they are 'involved.' A catfight ensues between the two ladies of the house and 'the stripper,' as Hank refers to her. Very funny stuff.

Californication: 'Very Dirty' - Hank confronts Becca over Tyler's screenplay.
Next on CALIFORNICATION - Episode 5.08 'Raw':
Hank is stuck reading Tyler's (Scott Michael Foster) screenplay but discovers some talent under that head of hair, even though the script appears to be disturbingly autobiographical account of the author's relationship with Becca. Charlie and Lizzie's love quadrangle with Stu and Marcy heats up, but when their bedroom games hit too close to home for Charlie, it may be off to therapy for all four of them. (Synopsis: Showtime)
David Duchovny & Drea De Matteo in Californication Episode 5.08 (SHO)
Like the show itself often is, this CALIFORNICATION post is quick and dirty. I'm fast approaching my deadline.
At just 30 minutes per episode, the fun is fast-moving in Californication--as is the wit. I have no doubt that Drea De Matteo who is guesting this week as 'Hank's 'girlfriend' (wink, nudge), will be able to give as good as she gets. Should be a very fun episode.
As always, please feel free to let me know how you are liking Season 5 Californication. See you on the other side!

CALIFORNICATION Episode 7: 'Here I Go Again' (SHOWTIME Extended Synopsis):
Hank saves Karen from embarrassment with a drunk Richard, then covers for Richard by pretending to be dating a stripper named Holly, who takes a liking to Tyler and offends his girlfriend, Becca. Meanwhile, when she's fired after an inappropriate encounter with Stu, nanny Lizzie calls on Charlie and allows their relationship to progress, only to have Marcy beg for her return. (Showtime)

Hank Moody (David Duchovny) is a very sad clown. (Photo Credits: Showtime)
After last episode's showcasing of Karen's husband Richard's 'mangina' and, for extra added man-parts gross-out, Charlie's (Evan Handler) 'accidental' servicing by a tranny hooker, how could this week's Californication outdo itself? Tune in, you'll see!
When Samurai Apocalypse hits a lyrical roadblock with his protege, he calls on the best writer he knows: Hank Moody, who unites with Kali to imbibe, bear his soul, and write a song that takes Hank back in time to an era when he, Karen and Charlie were happier and life was simpler before "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love." But the present comes roaring back when Karen shows up at Hank's door, worried that she made a mistake.

CALIFORNICATON - Episode 5: The Ride-Along (Synopsis):
Charlie's boyhood dream is realized and Hank's worst nightmare comes true when Samurai Apocalypse invites the boys on a ride-along with the Santa Monica Police Department and takes them on a joyride that goes sexually awry for Charlie; Richard hits the bottle at a crowded Venice restaurant but Hank and the boys arrive to save the day for Karen and Becca, and Tyler realizes he's seen Sam somewhere before.
Californication Episode 5.05, 'The Ride-Along' Sneek Peeks:
David Duchovny and Natalie Zea in Californication - Episode 5.04
Last week's Californication included an homage to 80's-style public hair by (who else?) master perv, Charlie (Evan Handler), Becca's scumbag boyfriend admitting to her that he is in Hank's words, a 'little man-whore', after Hank had prompted the guy by twisting his broken finger then finishing with a threat to 'open a can of whoop-ass on his...ass.''
Finally, though Hank lingered longer than intended in L.A. and was hot to catch his plane back to NYC, finding Becca mourning her lost love prompted him to promise to stay until she didn't need him to (read: foreseeable future).
Californication Season 5, Episode 4 - 'Waiting for the Miracle' Episode 5.04 Synopsis (Showtime):
Hank gets a surprise visit from ex-girlfriend Carrie, and when Karen and Becca surprise Hank with an invite to a dinner party, he's compelled to invite her. And frank sex talk among Marcy, Stu and Bates at the event has some guests heading for the exits. Meanwhile, Charlie has a blind date with a woman who lacks experience in the sex department.

Guest Cast Gillian Vigman: Mary Jason Beghe: Richard Bates Natalie Zea: Carrie Pamela S. Adlon: Marcy
Californication: 'Surprise'
Hank's ex from NYC surprises him in Los Angeles.
Californication: 'Hollywood Style'
Hank and his ex attend a dinner party at Karen's house.
Next on Episode 4
Hank reluctantly invites his ex-girlfriend Carrie to a dinner party.
Californication continues to be witty and irreverent with just enough humanity tossed into the mix to ensure that we care about the characters. I still don't know how David Duchovny does it. He did the same with his character, 'Agent Mulder' in the X-Files. He was kind of an ass but a wry, witty ass and against better judgment, we liked him--a lot. The same goes for his character on Californication, writer 'Hank Moody.' He does some incredibly selfish, immature things but his heart seems to be in the right place and there's no questioning his love of his daughter and her mother--no matter how weirdly he displays that love.
Californication: Self Preservation
After Hank finishes his script for Santa Monica cop, Charlie asks him to say in L.A.

Californication: Long for Companionship
Things start to heat up when Hank is asked to show Kali a night on the town
Full Synopsis: Episode 5.03 - 'Boys and Girls' - Hank delivers a completed draft of "Santa Monica Cop" to Samurai Apocalypse but his attempts to leave town are once again thwarted when he's asked to show a night on the town to Kali, his "acquaintance" from the flight to Los Angles; Tyler crashes with Karen and Becca while he recovers from his injuries; things get unprofessional fast when Charlie is saved from a serious parental crisis by his son's nanny, Lizzie.
Next on Episode 3 Hank delivers a script and tries to leave town but events keep him in L.A.
Next on Episode 2 - Hank meets with director Peter Berg and discovers a surprise connection.

Californication - Episode 5.02 - 'The Way Of The Fist' - Promo - Sneak Peeks - Full Synopsis:
Hank passes on writing Samurai Apocalypse's new movie but Sam won't take no for an answer and drags Hank to a meeting with director Peter Berg, where they discover that Hank and Peter have shared more than just a love of the written word. Sam takes it on himself to get rid of Tyler, which makes things worse between Hank and Becca. Co-parents Charlie, Marcy and Stu have their hands full when Little Stuart exposes himself to a preschool classmate, and Charlie takes it upon himself to mend fences with the offended girl's attractive mother. (Showtime)
Californication - The Runkles have a parent teacher meeting
Hank drops by Samurai Apocalypse's home and bumps into Kali.
'I do hate hip-hop, but that's not why.' - Hank to 'Sam' as to why he doesn't want to write his screenplay
If the number of views (on YouTube) of the sneak peeks for tonight's Californication are any indication, the show seems to be as popular as ever. One good reason for this is that Californication has a great tradition of impressive guests stars and this season is no exception. I'm looking forward tonight to seeing Peter Berg who seems (to his great credit) to have found a great deal of work behind the cameras directing in the past decade.
Judging by last week's season 5 premiere, David Duchovny as "Hank Moody' doesn't seem to have let his almost 3-year stint in prison slow him down from getting back into life in the fast lane.
The torching of his New York apartment by a 'jilted' ex-lover seems to be an extra impetus to 'go west,' beyond both an interest in the beautiful, enigmatic 'Kali' (Meghan Good) and an offer from superstar hip-hop mogul 'Samurai Apocalypse' (RZA) to write a screenplay. The confluence of these situations, along with his concern for daughter 'Becca' (Madeleine Martin) and her choice of male companions, plus his seemingly inexhaustible interest in Becca's mom & ex flame 'Karen' (Natascha McElhone), makes it a sure bet that Hank is back to stay in Southern California--the setting that best captures the essence of Hank Moody.
Despite Hank Moody's proclivity for sexual encounters with young ladies his daughter's age and his inability to indulge in a relationship any more complicated than a hook-up, he is indeed back for more.
Though he may have gone away to the big house for 3 years to serve his sentence for child molestation, Hank appears on the brink of either a precipice for his final hurdle over or...could it be--a comeback?

Californication – SEASON 5 Synopsis: Premiere: Sunday, January 8th at 10:30 PM ET/PT
Californication stars David Duchovny in his Golden Globe®-winning role as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody who struggles to raise his teenage daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone).
The new season will answer questions from last season’s cliff-hanging season finale, including whether Hank, Karen and Becca will finally be able to live together as a family, if Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy’s (Pamela Adlon) new baby will help reunite the now-divorced couple and, especially, to where, exactly, Hank was driving off into the sunset. Music icon, producer, actor and director RZA (American Gangster, Derailed) will guest star in multiple episodes as Samurai Apocalypse, an extreme-living, mega-rich hip-hop mogul who hires Hank to write a screenplay for his hot new film property. Sultry film and television siren Meagan Good (“The Game,” Jumping the Broom) guest stars as Kali, a smoking hot singer who is Samurai Apocalypse’s protégé, but who also sparks a flame in Hank. Californication is created by Tom Kapinos with Kapinos and Duchovny serving as executive producers.
And CALIFORNICATION's latest behind-the-scenes video provides an in-depth look at the upcoming season as well as input from the cast: http://youtu.be/Bb4xaL6LsbA
Storylines are coming together for Showtime's 5th Season of the David Duchovny vehicle, Californication:
Meagan Good has joined Showtime's dark comedy Californication for a major recurring role. Good, who will appear in nine of the 12 episodes of Californication's upcoming fifth season, will play Kali, an extremely hot up-and-coming hip-hop artist.
So, from what I can piece together here, the 'slightly dangerous' rapper Apocalypse, is dating Kali when he meets Hank. Hank, in his usual fashion, cannot resist a beautiful, sexy woman (the just-cast Meagan Good) and either steals her away from Apocalypse or cheats on him with her. Either way, exciting times are again on the horizon for Hank Moody.
Californication is currently in production for it's fifth season which will premiere in September, 2011.
Previous Californication Season 5 News/Spoilers
(4.22.11)
According to TVLine Robert Fitzgerald Diggs (better known as The RZA) will play a major recurring role in season five.
His character will be called "Apocalypse" who's a hip hop mogul who Hank considers writing a movie for.
(4.12.11)
Hank's going to get a screenwriting gig working on a movie for a rap impresario named Apocalypse, Hank dates a "bangin' Carrie Bradshaw wannabe" and our beloved Becca's (Madeline Martin) getting a much older boyfriend whom you will pretty much hate.
Californication - Episode 5.01 is entitled 'JFK to LAX.'
Some big hints at where season 5 is heading, two characters on a 9 & 8 episode arc are Apocalypse and his girlfriend, Kali. Apocalypse is a slightly dangerous rapper who takes a meeting with Hank in the hope of Mr. Moody writing a movie for him. The producers want big names for this role.
Also on an 8-episode arc is Doug, a ruggedly handsome and uber-successful contractor who doesn't take any of Hank's BS.
More big news-worthy is the 8 episode arc of Tyler, Becca's boyfriend who is a cocky pretty boy with a snotty rich-kid vibe, which irks Hank.
Season Five was picked up by Showtime in January 2011. Creator Tom Kapinos suggests that the show will need to take on a new direction to stay fresh. The narrative will take place soon after Hank's bio-pic ("Fucking and Punching") has been released and his fame and fortune has reached never before seen heights. It is clear that Becca (Madeleine Martin) and Karen (Natascha McElhone) will reprise their roles as Hank's daughter and anchor-ex-fiancee, but will start the season aboard an RV trekking along on their road trip with Ben (Michael Ealy) and his daughter Pearl (Zoë Kravitz). Their role as regulars in the show may taper off this season, but they will still be pivot points to Hank's endless attraction to disaster. The romance between Marcy (Pamela Adlon) and Stu Baggs (Stephen Tobolowsky) will be further explored, as well as how that relationship is affected by Marcy's pregnancy with Charlie Runkle (Evan Handler).
I'll be sad to have Californication over for season 4 but I'm glad Hank Moody's trial will be over by season's end. Who knows where the plot line will pick up in season 5? Dare we even venture a guess?
I was fortunatee enough to have the entire season given to me for review purposes, not realizing that other websites doing the same thing were billing their posts as 'Advance Review,' which I will do next time** ---hopefully maybe, with Nurse Jackie or oooh, or Weeds :) ?! I so love Mary-Louise Parker and her 'family'!
I can't wait for 'Nurse Jackie' to start this month!
**This time I'm just reviewing each episode week by week.
UPDATE (3.25.11) Hey, Californication fans!

Californication Episode 11 - 'The Last Supper' Hank spends a last night with family and friends:

Guest Stars: Stephen Tobolowsky, Judy Greer, Melissa Stephens and Michele Nordin, with Carla Gugino
With best friends like Charlie Runkle testifying on the stand in your defense who needs...friends?:
Californication: Relationship Conversation
Hank and Abby discuss their relationship.
I don't know if it is because this little clip is (of necessity) out of context, but it seems an awkward scene to me. It could be that it is meant to be awkward as does Hank, besides having a relationship with his daughter and his ex (and bf, Charlie), even have real relationships?
Specifically with women he's 'dating,' Hank doesn't get that serious, does he? (I ask, as 1. it doesn't seem that he does and 2. this is my 1st season watching Californication.)
The thing that is throwing me a bit about Hank and Abby is that neither seem particularly in need of anything deeper than what they have, which let's face it (excluding the attorney-client thing), is that they are f**k buddies. Should be interesting to find out where they end up.

Due to the previous night's hanky-panky, Hank's ex-attorney (Carla Gugino) decides to remain so, and attempts to match him up with Charles Widmore, senior partner (Alan Dale). The results are decidedly mixed.
I've mentioned before that I just started watching Californication this year (my bad) though I watched David Duchovny in his previous non-cable network series, the X-Files, for it's entire run. One of the things that I'm really loving about this little 30 min. show is the soundtrack. It really enhances the vibe with music that without question, I'd want to hear again.

Q: Are things going to get better for Hank on Californication? A:Not quite yet, because guess who's back? Yup, the deeply troubled Mia (Madeline Zima) charges into Hank's life and is hanging out with her movie counterpart, actress Sasha Bingham (Addison Timlin). When Mia and Sasha not-so-innocently put the moves on Hank someone snaps an extremely damaging pic.
I've talked about how much I enjoy the music that fits so well / helps induce the vibe in Californication so I thought I'd begin sharing the 'setlist' that I just :ahem: discovered on the official Californication area on the Showtime website. Tomorrow’s EPISODES mini-marathon will be the perfect way to catch up on the EPISODES episodes you’ve missed! This week’s episode of CALIFORNICATION is an absolute riot... it may or may not involve a player-hating monkey and auto-erotic asphyxiation. And I can assure you that the toddler-drag and the threesome proposition in SHAMELESSare only loosely related.

Californication was just picked up for a fifth season, and David Duchovny is understandably happy with that announcement. After all, there's only so many episodes a man can bear to bare. "That's probably why I should stop after six years, in terms of backsides," he tells us. But beyond just shots of David's derriere, the hit Showtime drama has heart and soul, especially when it comes to family.
"The heart of the show and what prevents it from spiraling off into nothing is the fact this guy does love this woman and he loves his daughter and he wants it to work but he keeps on screwing up," David says. "And they're all screwing up. So I think without that we don't have a show."
Watch what else David has to say about his backside, the season five announcement, and Rob Lowe looking like Brad Pitt.
Regardless of what Duchovny thinks about Baby Boomers like him showing his bum, Showtime seems to have pretty good track record with their over-45 y.o.leads holding up very well, thank you. Mary Louise Parker and Edie Falco come to mind right away. David looks just fine IMO, though I'm less inclined to think he should continue getting naked on camera if he starts getting man boobs.

This is my first season watching Californication and I must admit, it's nothing like I'd thought:
It's really quite charming, very funny, and quite real. As Evan Handler ('Charlie') says in the mini-interview (below), the show covers everything from the sublime to the ridiculous.
I've really liked season 4 thus far and I'm looking forward to more of it. This is a smart show with witty repartee (another Handler characterization, I believe; the guy is a quote machine!) as well as boobs and bums. It's got heart too, and that is what I find so charming as it swirls around amidst all the rest.
Hank and Charlie discuss the progress of his script.
Hank connects with a bad blind date, Charlie is unfaithful.

Showtime has picked up Californication for another round, and don’t expect producers to put the brakes on the show anytime soon. Asked by a critic at TCA if he’s tempted to set a series end date like Lost, executive producer Tom Kapinos said “no way.”
“I’m riding this to the bitter end,” he said. “I believe in sticking with something until we’ve squeezed every drop out of it.”
That said, the rather dramatic upcoming fourth season finale of the show was written as if, just in case, the show wasn’t renewed.
“If lightening strikes tomorrow,” he said, “I make an effort to make sure the end of every season … is a satisfying story.”
One critic asked if the show was taming down its sex scenes after last season, which he said resembled porn.
“That’s totally unfair,” David Duchovny said.
“I don’t feel like it’s ever gone too far,” Kapinos said. “Porn is people having sex on film. These are people pretending to have sex while naked. I have no regrets about the show at all.”
On Sunday, & Co. pulled in 848,000 viewers at 9 p.m. for its fourth season opener (and 1. 1 million viewers total if you include its repeat). Still no word on Shameless, but the new comedy performed slightly better out of the gate than Californication, so it’s off to a good start.
"I'd like to go six seasons," David says of Californication's fate destiny. "I always thought six would be a good number …72 episodes would be right."
That said, he's willing to do more—assuming Showtime can foot the bill. "I'd be open because the schedule is so wonderful for me," he told me. "It's only a 13 week schedule. It's like shooting a little movie for me. And I love working with the people. We all have a good time. I could continue on…I just say six years because in cable I think it becomes economically not feasible for them to go beyond because they're going to have to pay me so much money."
Q: Got any scoop on what's coming up? A: Hank has always been a good father and he's trying to get back into Becca's good graces. In the next episode, he takes his budding musician daughter to buy a guitar, but his credit card is declined. Later, he writes the most beautiful heartfelt apology letter which unfortunately coincides with a lot of alcohol and a handful of pills...
...which was more than I was going to tell you as I [erm] saw them. Now I'll have to spill on something else about the David Duchovny-directed episode 'Suicide Solution,' on Californication. In a Saturday posting. :)
There's even more. Want to see pretty pics of both David Duchovny and Carla Gugino? Here you go.
The lovely & talented Carla Gugino on Californication on Showtime on Sunday Jan 16th, at the beginning of the new show/returning shows line-up (9 p.m.)
Californication - Promo Photos 4.02 - 'Suicide Solution' Synopsis: David Duchovny directs this episode which guest stars Rob Lowe, looking uncannily like Brad Pitt's doppelganger, but described as an 'imbalanced Oscar-winning actor'...who might play the 'Hank' role in the upcoming movie.' Looks fun.
I love Carla Gugino's guesting...She's good in everything she does. Not sure if I love her character, Abby, in sort-of-severe bangs, tho'.
Did you watch this along with Shameless andEpisodeswhich follow Californication on Showtime on Sunday nights?(If you missed episode 1 of any of the 3 shows you can watch them uncensored (for a limited time, I believe)right here on my blog!)
I watched all three shows--admittedly I split some of the viewing time up but that's allowed. :) Good shows, all.
Prior to Season 4, I did not watch Californication more than once or twice. I watched every episode of X-Files though and really like David Duchovny--so I'm game. He's very appealing but at this early point 'Hank' is not very lovable.
