Most of Shameless' season 3 finale, 'Survival of the Fittest' was bittersweet. Beginning with Fiona's desperate attempts to contact Jimmy, whose phone is at the bottom of Lake Michigan, as Jimmy himself may be, to Lip getting his high school diploma and finding out he has a full ride to MIT--for which he thanks Mandy. Then we had Ian forging an ID for himself, saying he's 18 y.o. old and joining the Army. Karen, Jody and baby Hymie packed up for Arizona and left Sheila an empty-nester. More bitter than sweet, is that the love that both Debs and Carl have for their their wayward father is as strong as ever as Frank's years of drugging and drinking catch up to him and he lands, seriously ill, in the hospital.

The video above dissects the scene with Carl making his way to his dad's hospital room in the dark of a wintery Chicago night, in hopes of helping Frank to heal.

“I take it that at the end of Episode 11, you’re to assume that he got on the boat and he’s not coming back,” says star Emmy Rossum. “We saw what happened to the last person who got on that boat. Remember? The first guy in the first episode, they chopped him up and they threw him off the boat.” Given that Beto tossed Jimmy’s phone in the water, Rossum believes there are only two options: “We’re supposed to assume that Jimmy is either gone to work for the family down in Brazil, or he’s done in Chicago.” With her boyfriend MIA and not returning her calls, Fiona will be “very worried” and will blame herself for driving him away, especially after the way they left things during their epic coffeehouse clash. “...she will assume in Episode 12 that she caused this. She hasn’t heard from him. They had a big fight. She said, ‘Don’t come home,’ and now he’s not calling her back. So she will think that she basically told him to [leave]... not that he is involved with all these gangsters. She doesn’t know any of that.” Whatever happens to Jimmy – and it remains a mystery even to the actress, who says the series shot different takes for his storyline – “it’s a pretty big turning point” for the character.

'True Blood' Season 6 Casting News - NEW Vampire FEATURED Cast Member #truebloodS6

Beginning in episode 6.06, there will be a new recurring vampire on HBO's  vampire drama True Blood named 'Wes'.

Wes was turned in the 1970s when he was in his mid 20's. His ethnicity isn't specified. He's sexy, smart, compassionate, protective, and plays the guitar. He's going to be involved in a love triangle with Jason and another vampire ... Wes will be a strong recurring role in the reduced, 10-episode season 6  and a regular in (the presumably, expanded-to-normal) season 7.

Oh, also, he needs to be willing to show his bare bum.

True Blood - Episode 6.04 - Title Revealed and Roles Being Cast 

True Blood episode 6.04 will be called, "I'm Your Man," with two possibly-recurring roles being cast for it: LAVTF Team Commander (LAVTF = "Louisiana Vampire Task Force"?) , who prepares to attack a house with his crew; and Security Chief, whose becomes concerned for his employer when a vampire pays a visit.

Episode 6.03 of True Blood will be called "Rock Hard Times" and one guest star and a number of co-star roles are being cast for it. 

The guest star part is a 50-year-old woman named Beverly Hutt who was a friend of Sookie/Jason's parents and answers their questions about them. The co-star roles are: Young Beverly Hutt, 30 year old, (seen in a flashback), 4 mischievous/silly faerie girls (who are younger versions of 4 faeries as seen in a flashback), a 30-to-50-year-old hospital nurse who attempts to calm a patient, 8-year-old Sookie (also seen in a flashback), and two Caddo Parish sheriff deputies who visit Sam at his home.

Episode 6.02 will be called "Here Comes the Sun," and several parts are being cast for it, including the co-star role of Niall's protective mother (from a flashback scene set in 3500 B.C., in which a young Niall also appears). There's also a prostitute named Veronica (a guest star role) who makes money by letting vampires feed on her, and these recurring roles: a few 20-something "Occupy Wall Street" types, and Willa Burrell, who is Governor Burrell's (played by Arliss Howard) daughter, and who disagrees with her father's agenda.

Finally, a possibly-recurring character, Maggie, is 35, pregnant, and convinced that her husband left her to raise their child by herself.

Arliss Howard (Rubicon, Medium) is joining the HBO’s forthcoming True Blood sixth season in the series regular role of Louisiana Governor Creighton Burrell, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The character is described as a good ol’ boy politician who has a major beef with vampires ever since his wife ran off with one, leaving him as a single father to their only daughter. Politically savvy and perhaps overly ambitious, Creighton tends to let his personal aspirations overshadow his humanity.

The title of True Blood episode 6.01, which is directed by True Blood's own Stephen Moyer (Vampire 'Bill Compton'), will be "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."

Three co-starring roles are being cast for the episode including: two 'Caddo Parish' sheriff deputies, for a scene in which they politely pay Sam a visit at his house; and a male Authority guard, who sees something he can't believe in the AHO Control Room.

I hafta admit, after watching the Nurse Jackie Season 5 sneak peek and tease which had NO sign of our beloved Dr. O'Hara, I was just a bit worried myself that the delicious Eve Best might not be returning to Nurse Jackie. So this is excellent news--I had been and now can continue to look forward to finding out how O'Hara will handle the new life chapter of single motherhood(!) I'm guessing mommy veteran Jackie will be a much-needed source of support! That could be a nice flip from O'Hara's role last season as the one offering loads of BFF-quality friendship, support, and strength to a newly-in-recovery Jackie.

Former BSG Babe Tricia Helfer will lead 'Killer Women'

Former Battlestar Galactica badass Tricia Helfer has landed the lead in Killer Women, ABC’s drama pilot about the only female in the male-dominated Texas Ranger Division, TVLine has learned.

Based on the Argentine series Mujeres Asesinas, the project — which counts Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara among its producers — finds Helfer playing Molly Parker, a beautiful and ballsy Ranger who knows how to get the truth and isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers on her way there.

Hannah Shakespeare (The Playboy Club) penned the script.

Helfer’s post-BSG credits include Dark Blue, The Firm, Two and a Half Men, Criminal Minds and this week’sCommunity.

Mujeres Asesinas ("Killer Women") is an Argentine drama and suspense thriller TV series, based on an acclaimed trilogy of books of the same name by Marisa Gristein.

I have one thing to say about this: What took so long?

Tricia is not only beautiful, she's talented! When Battlestar Galactica ended I felt sure she'd be a lead or co-lead in series television in no time. I got my hopes up when she was cast in Ronald D. Moore's 17th Precinct but alas, that show was not picked up. But  this project sounds like it could be a go. Keep your fingers crossed!

It's not as if Tricia has she's being sitting on her hands--she's very active in charities of many sorts and she's had some nice guest roles as well as quite a bit of voiceover work--and of course, there's auditioning. But as much as I love hearing her I want to see her, too! So this is about the best news I could ask for today. Trica Helfer is back!

Ausiello: Yes. Producers have quietly begun looking for a 6-year-old boy to play a 4-year-old boy throughout S8, which makes me wonder if Harrison is going to experience a growth spurt between seasons.

The countdown to Dexter‘s endgame has begun.

The Showtime serial killer thriller will introduce two major recurring characters in its upcoming eighth and likely, final season — and both could spell trouble for Dex and Deb. 

First up is Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals (like, perhaps, the one who murdered LaGuerta?).

This particular character's job description and roughly, age (and sex) made me think of Dr. Kay Scarpetta in the Patricia Cornwell series.

 The show is also on the hunt for a 40ish actor to play Jacob Elroy, a handsome and straightforward former cop who now runs his own private eye business. GUESSES: Angel (or Tom?!) hires him to find out who killed his ex-wife/ex-partner-in-crime.

Dex and Deb are doomed to be found out if she and 'Jacob' start dating. He's her type, older and 'in the business.'  I think, sooner or later Deb will be the one to crack and spill both her and Dexter's secret.

But I can totally see Dex attempting to take the fall for his sister though and vehemently dissuading her from doing the same for him. Just the same, I see him always feeling what he does is just and worthy, though he understands how vastly different a murderer like himself is from someone who has never done so. 

The concluding season of Dexter is can't miss TV. It ought to be a total ride.

When last we saw Carrie (Claire Danes) she had, with Brody's (Damian Lewis) assistance, escaped from Nazir (Navid Negahban), called for help and returned to the warehouse in which she was being held. Upon her return, she began a solo search for Nazir, unaware that black ops agent Quinn (Rupert Friend) and a terrorist capture team were about to storm the place--which is where we pick up in Sunday's episode.

It's going to be very interesting because for one thing, how is Carrie going to explain exactly, how she got away from Nazir--that her lover--Brody made a deal with Nazir to kill the Vice President? I just can't see that going over well--though I realize that patriot Carrie would have died before she would have consented to such a thing. RIP V.P. Walden--you were a slimy bastard but Jamey Sheridan did a great job making us hate you.

Nazir evaded capture and in this Sunday's episode we may find out if he will be caught or killed or both--the sneak peek implies that he gets away but sneak peeks can be sneaky that way, as I'm sure you've realized. All the more fun to discuss what we think is going to happen, right?

Speaking of happenings, Brody's wife Jessica (Morena Baccarrin) finally bedded her true love Mike (Diego Klattenhoff) while at the safehouse, explaining afterward that she felt no guilt. When Brody finally showed up, things were awkward but upon Mike's exit Jess and Brody appeared ready to discuss their situation frankly (they both desire people that are not their spouse). But inconveniently, Brody was called away by Nazir and the discussion was shelved. I think the marriage is kaput, though. There's just nothing left between them besides the kids, who are very aware of Mom and Dad's very unhappy marital situation.

This week too, the 'mole' problem which goes back to season one, is again picked up--by Carrie--who is convinced that the only way Nazir could have gotten away was if said mole helped him. I don't know. There was quite a time lapse between her escaping, running out to the highway, trying and failing several times to flag down someone to borrow a cellphone from, phoning the 'home office', and then making her way back to the huge warehouse. Why couldn't Nazir have just slipped away, possibly using his own terrorist connections? I am glad the mole issue is at least being addressed because it's not at all a small issue. I've heard rumblings that Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is the mole which I don't believe, that Estes (David Harewood) is--he, I could've believed the mole last season but this far into season 2, I'm thinking he's more an asshole than a mole. At this point, my best guess is 'Danny,' the guy that got caught in the gunfight along with Quinn and who last we heard had a 50-50 chance of recovering. He showed up in the last episode having left Walter Reed Hospital AMA, arm in a sling, saying he wanted to help find Carrie--but who knows.

There's just 2 more episodes, people. This season has gone by in a flash. I've really dug it--the characters and the great writing/high tension of every episode have solidified my state of being hooked on this show and I'll miss Homeland when it goes on hiatus. So glad it was renewed for a third season!

Meanwhile, the Brodys struggle to maintain anything close to a state of sanity.

TRUE BLOOD Season 6 Ausiello Scoop - Rutger Hauer To Play... #trueblood #waitingsucks

 

By now you've probably heard TRUE BLOOD season six's biggest casting news--that Dutch actor Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) is joining the HBO mainstay as a series regular. Though reports of the actor's character were sketchy--Hauer will play 'Macklyn, a mysterious and sinister figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason,' I've got a pretty good notion that we already are slightly acquainted with his character.

Remember Sookie's grand adventure with her faery clan in season 5? And Jason and Sookie's discovery that an 18th-century relative of theirs promised Sookie to a vampire by the name of 'M. Warlow'--the same M. Warlow who killed Mom and Pop Stackhouse?

It is not much of a leap to put Rutger Hauer's 'Macklyn' together with M. Warlow to arrive at "Macklyn Warlow," is it? You're welcome.

Hauer is well known for his portrayal of Blade Runner‘s Roy Batty, a renegade robot trying to evade capture in Ridley Scott’s classic sci-fi film. But the Dutch actor has a varied resume that includes parts in movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Batman Begins and Sin City and guest roles in TV’s Smallville and Alias. In 1988, he won a Golden Globe for his work in the TV movie Escape From Sobibor.

In further casting news for True Blood's six season, a casting call has gone out for an 'oily Rick Perry type' to play the recurring role of Texas’ governor. The show is also casting a 'Southern belle to play his twentysomething daughter'.

Seems like someone from Bon Temps--willingly or not--shall indeed mess with Texas.

A: I don’t want to say if he is or he isn’t. Who’s to say what Lilith really is? He is still Bill but he is something different.

A: It is Bill, but it is a transformed Bill. He is not a completely new person. It’s not like his memories or his experiences have been left out and he’s just a baby.

A: You’ll have to watch [next season]. We didn’t see her die.

Q: And Russell? Is he really dead? He’s gone. We may see him in flashbacks, but he bit it.

And now the question that has been looming ever-more largely, after Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer's bundles of joy arrive, will Mrs. Moyer be inclined to return to her job as "Sookie Stackhouse' on HBO's TRUE BLOOD?

First, I must be honest with you: I don't know.

Paquin is famously private and so has said very-little-to-nothing about her 'condition.' The timing of the arrival has been announced as 'in the fall' (of 2012) which means she and Moyer would have at least the traditional amount of time that the average working American mom has to enjoy her babies. Sadly, if she were in New Zealand, the country which she has referred to as where she calls 'home', she'd have a lot more time off to do all the things that a mother of newborn twins does, which is to put it simply, twice as much as a mom of a singleton. That is, if she were an average mum.

The upside is that much of True Blood's filming is done at night so once the babies have settled into a nightly routine it could be a bit of an easing up on the pressure that all new mothers face. I'm assuming that there will be a nursery on the True Blood set, that nannies will be involved, and of course, the bonus of both mom and dad working on the same television show. Even so, Paquin has the additional pressure of having to get back into pre-baby shape pretty darn quick. Hopefully, the costume department will help her out a bit there as well as the camera people, who seemed finally to get the hang of shooting a pregnant actress whose character was not pregnant by the final episode of season 5.

When all is said and done, most likely, though twins are automatically considered a high-risk pregnancy, Anna Paquin will give birth to healthy babies and because she has the resources she'll be able to cope with both work and the raising of two babies with the variety of help at her disposal, not the least of which is her husband, Stephen Moyer. His character on True Blood who has been dubbed "Billith," will be getting some serious face time in season 6, so unless they kill him off early in the season (doubtful) both Paquin and Moyer will return to work on True Blood as scheduled sometime in late 2012 or early 2013.

Q: Is Deb actually buying what Dexter is selling in first few minutes of Season 7?

A: “He hopes so… In that moment,” Michael C. Hall said with a laugh. Added Jennifer Carpenter, “She’s just taking one step at a time; she takes one step forward and is sent 10 back.”

Look for Season 7′s Deb to embrace her position of power a bit more than in previous years. “She actually needs [her authority] now. It’s the one card she has to play,” Carpenter teased. “At any second — if Deb lives after what you just saw [in the promo] — she could tell someone to put cuffs on him.” Long story short, “It’s like Dexter and Deb are just fish swimming [in opposite directions] for awhile.”

Familial Love?

 

Carpenter might be alone in these sentiments, but she was not as taken aback by Deb’s seemingly sudden affections toward her “brother.”

“There was certainly a fascination that I thought Deb had with Dexter [early on], so it didn’t feel like it was so bizarre to play that last season.”

However, she added, “I think him stabbing somebody trumps those thoughts.”

 

  As we saw in some earlier Dexter season 7 sneak peeks, James Remar’s Harry will appear in Season 7 — and in a major way.

I’ve actually already screened the first four episodes of True Blood‘s new season and, based on what I’m seeing so far, I feel very comfortable declaring Season 5 the year of the Pam. Between the origin stuff with Eric and her present-day storyline with [SPOILER], Kristin Bauer van Straten’s vamp is practically in every other scene — and the show is the better for it. I’m starting the 2013 Emmy campaign for KBvS now. The woman is a national treasure! Question: Anything else you can share on Tina Majorino’s True Blood arc? Love her. Ausiello: Her first scene is with Eric and Bill. A shirtless Eric and a shirtless Bill.

Ausiello says that PAM  is featured prominently in the first four episodes that he's seen to which I say 'Yay!.'

Bauer van Straten with more screentime, STEPHEN MOYER getting a chance to direct (later in the season) and a baby on the way for MOYER and ANNA PAQUIN. All is right is the TRUE BLOOD world, IMO.

AUSIELLO Scoop! TRUE BLOOD Season 5 - Character PROMO PHOTOS w/ TARA Casting Call #trueblood

RUTINA WESLEY as TARA THORNTON in TRUE BLOOD Season 5 premiering on HBO June 10:

Despite reassurances that 'Tara' would again be a featured player in TRUE BLOOD season 5, some viewers were skeptical on account of her final scene in Sookie's kitchen. Wesley herself has said 'half her head' was blown off when Tara flung herself between (now dead) Debbie Pelt's shotgun blast and Sookie. Didn't look survivable.

However, through what can only now be attributed to mystical/supernatural forces of which there are many in Bon Temps, Tara looks fairly intact in this headshot (no pun) poster art, though  to be fair, we are only seeing half her head.

Question: Do you have any True Blood scoop? The wait is seriously killing me!

Ausiello:

Terry (Todd Lowe) will spend much of the season on the road with his ex-military buddy Patrick (Scott Foley). “Most of the time we are out in the greater 50 states tracking down other members of our platoon trying to get some closure to this event that happened over in Iraq,” reveals Foley of the duo’s hush-hush storyline, which required “a lot of running and fighting and jumping. There’s a lot of physicality.”

Well, first, thank dog it's NOT Jonah.

Second, the so-called riddle 'spoilers.' from my prior post about this (the link folllows) were WRONG and the blinking garbarge blog from which I procured them is just that.

Third, welcome back Rudy (Christian Camargo)! Woo-hoo. Super-savage Dex is back in a big way if he's taking cues from his badder big-brother Brian/Rudy/the Ice Truck Killer who Dexter killed in season1.

Here's some context from the blog of a Salon blogger who has no compunction about revealing everything about episode 6.06 before the episode airs:

....when Dexter gets Sam's parting plea on his deathbed in the hospital, Dexter is pitched into a new, harrowing internal battle between the light and dark ... Don't kill my killer, Sam implores Dexter - forgive him,  let your hatred go...  He confronts Sam's killer - Nick - and might have let him live, but the taunts about getting away with Sam's killing goad Dexter into drowning the life out of him.

(This isn't surprising IMO, as Dex, when taunted by his victim tends to get hyper-intense about the kill. Dex has lost control before and done non-traditional kills.)

...Dex's killing of Sam's killer was not at all ritualistic.   At a time like this, we might expect some laconically appropriate words from Dex's father Harry.

But what we get, instead, is a reappearance of Brian/Rudy/the Ice Truck Killer - Dexter's brother, killed by Dexter in Season One.   And if Dex's brain is bringing him into view, there is some deep darkness indeed ahead for Dexter.

In my previous DEXTER post I tossed around some of the speculation as to who, possibly an individual or entity with a Dark Passenger, would be reentering DEXTER's life in this Sunday's episode.  Gossip-ologist Ausiello is now confirming that this 'person' (vs. figment of the imagination/ghost) will not be Lumen. That should help narrow it down a bit but honestly, having watched this show for years (and not re-watched DEXTER's early years recently) I cannot remember if I'm forgetting to consider someone.

Also, I keep seeing the name 'Jonah' brought up in speculative threads around the Internet. Jonah, it turns out, was featured in DEXTER season 5. He was the Trinity Killer's son but he left so small of an impression on me that I cannot see the significance of him being brought back other than he knows that Dexter faked his identity in pursuit of Trinity. Jonah doesn't know specifically that DEXTER is a serial killer and he doesn't know the details of his father's death.

However, having been reared by a serial killer may be significant in pushing Dexter further into pondering the fate of his own son, Harrison. If it turns out that Trinity's son now has own Dark Passenger it would further fuel Dexter's anxiety about his son Harrison's fate should Dexter continue to rear him.

 

Here are the latest hints/spoilers from Ausiello as to what  is coming up on DEXTER:

Question: I have to ask, as I am getting quite nervous about the whole situation: Do you feel Dexter will continue past this season?
Ausiello: Not only do I feel it will, I know it will.

Question: What’s this I’m hearing about a major character returning to Dexter? True? Any clues?
Ausiello: True. Someone from Dex’s past reappears this Sunday and here’s your one and only clue: The mystery man (or woman) in question was featured prominently in Season 5. Or was it Season 3? Come to think of it, it might’ve been Season 1. It’s definitely one of those three.

Question: Any chance we’ll see Lumen on Dexter anytime soon?
Ausiello: OK, one more hint: The returning character is not Lumen. “I don’t think we’ll see her again this season,” confirms EP Scott Buck. “She’s a very important part of Dexter’s life and who he has become, but she’s largely a person of his past.”

Claire Danes as 'Carrie Mathison' in Showtime's new series "Homeland':

Hey there!

I finally got a chance to view episode 101 of Homeland and holy cow, if you thought the pilot was intense, wait until you see episode 101!* And you won't have to wait very long--this Sunday, October 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT  right after Dexter is the time to tune in.

Meanwhile, why not  get comfy and re-watch the Homeland pilot (episode 100) here or heavens forbid, if you missed it catch it for the first time! I have the full episode of Dexter 6.01, 'Those Kind Of Things'  embedded both in this post and at the bottom of this blog--but hurry, because they both are available only for a limited time!

So back to Homeland, episode 101 entitled 'Grace,'  which airs on Showtime this Sunday.

Firstly, I came to the show already loving the work of  Homeland co-star Claire Danes but this is one role unlike any other she has taken on and she is really running with it! I have a whole new level of appreciation for the onetime breakout teenage star of  'My So-Called Life.' She is is all grown up now (with among other accolades, a 2010 Emmy to show for it) and this role has really given Danes a deeply complex, multi-layered character who is impossible to take your eyes off.

 

Damian Lewis as "Nick Brody'  in Showtime's new series "Homeland':

What is really surprising me though isn't how great Danes as CIA agent Carrie Mathison is but Damian Lewis as 'Nick Brody', the deeply scarred, both psychologically and physically, former POW of 8 years that Carrie is certain has himself been turned into a terrorist. What a revelation! I have no idea how I missed this fine actor's performances in the past but one thing I know for sure, from now on I'll be watching for his name in the credits of any of his future endeavors! He is so skilled at bringing this character to life. Two episodes in and my heart is breaking for him...but should it be? That's the rub. And SMALL SPOILER when the former Sgt. Brody does indeed 'draw solace from his pain in the most unexpected way' it is a complete mind-blower. Seriously.

There's much more to episode 101 but I'm saving the rest of my comments for after the audience at large gets a chance to enjoy it. I'll be watching, too. I've had to restrain myself from watching it a second time on my screener as I think it's best to watch it  as it is being broadcast--then watch it as many times again  as I please. Please you know, there's the little matter of my spouse who is watching the show as it is broadcast. This is the kind of show that we --and you will be be talking about afterwards.

Just as the more intuitive True Blood fans suspected, telepath-part-faery 'Sookie Stackhouse' (played by Anna Paquin) and nice guy werewolf 'Alcide Herveaux' (Joe Manganiello) will not be involved in a romantic relationship in Season 4 True Blood (*pause here to digest this distressing news*), according to TV Guide (scroll down for link).

It seems, as in the books, Alcide gets back together with his werebitch V-junkie ex-girlfriend,  Debbie Pelt (have to love that name!). Truth be told, I'm unsure if Alcide will ever get involved with Sookie given that HBO both has not yet renewed True Blood for season 5 nor has Alan Ball inked a deal with the cabler, despite the sky-high season 4 debut ratings. Seems likely that the two situations probably go hand-in-hand. Ball has dropped hints in various places including Issue # 1113 of Rolling Stone magazine, in which he says:

TVGuide: He'll show up in Episode 3, but he will be "spoken for," as they say, which will provoke an interesting reaction from Sookie. Nevertheless, Sookie will need his help. "The great thing about Sookie is that she drags him off on all these adventures," Joe Manganiello tells us. "She's the key in unlocking that reluctant hero inside of him and he recognizes that as a good thing."

Q: I have to know — will this season of True Blood have the smokin’ hot Sookie/Eric shower scene featured in the book?

 
Ausiello: Yes… and No.

“There is a shower scene,” explains exec producer Alan Ball. “But it is not a direct re-enactment of the shower scene in the book. It goes to a slightly different place.” “Sookie and Eric are in the shower together,” confirms Ball, who assures me that, “Everybody who’s been waiting for Sookie and Eric to hook up, this will be a very good season for them.”

Q: Any more details on Scott Foley’s True Blood role?
Ausiello: “He was Terry’s platoon leader in Iraq,” says Ball of Foley’s character, Patrick. “So they [share] a military history.” ... Foley will debut in the Season 4 finale and then recur throughout Season 5. Ball, meanwhile, confirms that a deal is not yet in place for him to return as showrunner for a fifth season. “I’m negotiating,” he says. Of course, HBO hasn’t renewed the show itself — but Ball isn’t worried. “There are no plans for this show to end,” he assures. “I’m pretty sure there will be at least one more season, if not more. It seems like it has a lot of life in it still.”...

On a recent Friday, on a soundstage representing a New Age shop in Shreveport, La., another sign warned “Live panthers on set,” but those terrifying predators were nowhere to be seen. Instead, Sookie Stackhouse, the mind-reading, vampire-attracting waitress portrayed by Anna Paquin, and her friends Tara (Rutina Wesley) and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) were cowering in fear of a sinister Wiccan, played by Fiona Shaw, who appeared to be carrying on a conversation with herself — or maybe with someone else inside her.

When Ms. Paquin visited behind the cameras during a shooting break and sprawled herself across a director’s chair, she playfully declined to explain what exactly had transpired in this scene from the next-to-last episode of the coming “True Blood” season.

“Would you want to know what you’re getting for Christmas on Christmas Eve?” she asked. “There’s something about anticipation that makes it more exciting.”

Actor Denis O'Hare may eventually return to HBO's True Blood, he told The Hollywood Reporter before the New York edition of the WGA Awards Saturday night.

 "Someone discussed a possible idea with me, which, of course, I can't tell you," O'Hare said. "But it's a very cool idea. It's not far fetched, but it's not something that you would see coming."

For now, he is busy with movie work. "I'm waiting for this movie to come out. It's called The Eagle and comes out Feb. 11," O'Hare told THR. "And then I'm doing a Clint Eastwood movie, J. Edgar Hoover with Leonardo DiCaprio. We start shooting soon. I go out to L.A. in two weeks."

There appears to be yet another flashback sequence in this episode as a casting call has gone out for a character named 'Mavis,' 'a sad-eyed girl dressed in a modest 1930s dress.' She’s African-American, age 20-30, and speaks with a Cajun accent. Mavis is a recurring guest star.

She may be part of the witchy Jesus/Lafayette storyline. Kevin Alejandro who plays Jesus, was recently quoted saying, “You’re gonna see a lot of me. It’s the season of the witches, so you can count on seeing me a little bit more than last season.”

werewolf being in the way. Joe Manganiello told us at the Producers Build Awards: “Wherever Sookie goes, Alcide is not going to be that far behind. He is very protective of her in the way that dogs are protective of their owners. Even tiny dogs will bark and stand up to whoever or whatever is threatening their master despite how tiny they are compared to the tormenter. That’s the same theory at the heart of Alcide. Fortunately he is a bit bigger than a purse dog and his bark and bite are pretty ferocious.

IMO, the 'new darkness' on True Blood is not 'who' but more 'what.' 

My feel is that Alan Ball will not whip up an entirely new big bad. One only has to look at the casting news to see that at least in part, Ball and his writers are following the Sookie Stackhouse book series (book #4). The plethora of witches, shifters, werewolves, faeries and of course, vampires has me leaning in the direction of the books in that there will be a supernatural war.

That is very much OK with me as Charlaine Harris's fourth book in the Southern Gothic series, 'Dead To The World,' is my favourite.

 

Q: How about some True Blood scoop?
Ausiello: ... Remember last season’s legendary head-turning sex scene between Lorena and Bill? Well, the word around Bon Temps is that there’s a sequence in the upcoming fourth season that will have folks buzzing just as (if not more) loudly. The character at the center of said scene? One Jason Stackhouse.

 Q: How will Alcide and Sookie’s relationship evolve this season — if at all? Will Alcide begin to develop real romantic feelings for her?
Ausiello: “I think Alcide has already developed real feelings for her,” responds exec producer Alan Ball. “But there are certainly obstacles to overcome for both of them.”

A: Stephen Moyer spills, "We've got a new presence. There will be a new kind of specter that represents darkness. We had the wonderful Denis O'Hare as the king of Mississippi last year and he's [gone] at the end of season three, so we've got something else (my italics - CM) coming in to replace that darkness, which is going to be really interesting, I think, this whole new sort of topic that we haven't covered."

Paola Turbay has joined HBO's drama True Blood as a recurring. She will play Antonia. We don't know much about her except for the fact that she speaks fluent Spanish and is 'fierce'. The Houston, TX-born Turbay, who moved to Colombia at age 10, is former Miss Colombia and Miss Universe runner-up. She made her U.S. series debut as a regular on CBS' Cane and has been recurring on USA's Royal Pains.

'True Blood' Season 4 Casting News Update #trueblood

Besides the awesome Jessica Tuck being promoted as 'Nan Flanagan' (see below) to series regular playing a liason/mouthpiece for 'The Authority,' the vampire equivalent to a police state (& doing it really, really well!), several other season 4 roles have just been cast.

As reported exclusively by Deadline.com True Blood's casting department has been working overtime beefing up what is guaranteed to be a sort-of-gargantuan season 4 cast.

I'm not familiar with anyone's work other than Tuck's so you'll have to tell me if these are good choices:

Janina Gavankar, who I've seen neither in The Gates nor  The L Word, has joined True Blood's upcoming fourth season as a regular.  Gavankar will play will play 'Luna, a super-sexy public school teacher and shapeshifter who is first seen attending an informal gathering with others like her.' Based on the synopsis and the preview it looked liked Gemma was going to give Jax dirt on Clay (no pun intended). Again, forgive for not having watched much of S1 of SOA yet (I'm going to as soon as S2 ends) so I'm lacking context, but does Gemma know Clay is responsible for John Teller's (Jax's father) death? It would seem "no" based on the Ausiello spoiler (below) which states that Jax's 'going nomad' must have been very short-lived as "after Gemma makes her reveal, it’ll seem pretty obvious that Jax is back in the gang and not going anywhere." This is definitely one of those things that makes you go "hmm."

True Blood - Ausiello Confirms Eric & Sookie Spoiler

Question: How about a hot and juicy True Blood scoop on Sookie and Eric? Ausiello: Sookie will be planting her luscious lips all over Eric’s hard body in Sunday’s episode. Hot any juicy enough for you?

If I'm correct, I  believe Eric needs to have a silver bullet removed from his body before his body heals as if it remains "in" his body it would slowly kill him. He enlists Sookies help in "sucking" the bullet out of his wound, allowing him to heal properly.

True Blood - More on Lafayette ' s Fate and How it Effects True Blood

Below there are some hardcore spoilers regarding Nelsan Ellis's "Lafayette," BonTemp's gay, V -selling prostitute and Merlotte's (probably ex) short-order cook.

I'm declaring shenanigans on Ausiello and every other critic that has seen one-third of Season 2 of True Blood already and are blabbing about it. I write about spoilers and I don't even want to know what's gonna happen episodes down the line.

However, in their quest to get eyeballs on their websites Ausiello and I'm sure a bunch of other's, paid and not, who are are practically wetting their pants,  have proved totally untrustworthy by leaking info three weeks before it occurs on True Blood, a 12-week show on HBO.

I can't imagine that Alan Ball wants that much of his story out of the bag so early in the season.

I'm hoping it's more HBO's publicity department. You know, the ones who've been accused of driving one of the last nails in the coffin of the Los Angeles Times by wrapping Stephen Moyer around last Friday's edition?

"How will the experience of being locked in a dungeon and almost dying change Lafayette this season?
ELLIS: It certainly humbles him. It shows him there are some situations he just can’t get himself out of no matter how slick he is. He's going to have to suffer the consequences of what he’s done. And I think he reflects back on his behaviour and maybe for a second thinks about changing.
What was your reaction (to finding out LaFayette survives?)
ELLIS: Thank you! I have a job for next season! That was my reaction.

Did (showrunner Alan Ball) explain to you why he let Lafayette survive?
ELLIS: Not really. He just said he decided after the bar scene in [the pilot], but he didn’t tell me until the 12th episode. He didn’t really go into any detail as to why he decided to keep me -- not to me anyway.

In an upcoming episode [SPOILER ALERT], Lafayette ingests a lot of Eric’s blood. The homoeroticism in that moment was off the charts. Was that something you were conscious of while shooting it?
ELLIS: I wasn’t. I know Alexander said that from his standpoint he thinks Eric is a little drawn to Lafayette. My intentions were that I was completely terrified of Eric and what he can do to me. As far as I know, I hated his guts. It’s funny what the camera picks up... Alan has been making jokes about me and Eric and what’s to come in the third season. I definitely think I’ll be one of his henchmen, but as far down the rabbit hole as that goes, I don’t know.

So we can assume that Lafayette does, in fact, survive to see a third season? ELLIS: I think I’m back for the third season.

Do you think it’s possible for Lafayette to settle down and have a normal relationship with a guy? ELLIS: I don’t know that his normal is the general norm for everybody. I don’t think he’ll ever be normal to everybody’s standards. I do hope though that the dude can find someone that he loves and that loves him back.
