Ever since she recovered from taking a bullet to the noggin', Nancy has been doing a kind of push me-pull you dance--with herself. As she told Rabbi Dave upon their first face-to-face meeting, she "just couldn't keep doing things the way (she'd) been doing them." He told her, "So don't." If only it were that simple. Nancy, like every human being, struggles with serious change. Some of us never reach the goals we've set for ourselves, others get part-way there, and some give up without even a sincere effort. A lucky, determined few make it. I think Nancy is sincerely trying. But Nancy has been doing things 'her way' for a long time now and change is hard (who knew?) So she struggles. And struggles some more. That is the down side. The upside is that she's surrounded by some really good people right now. Whether she makes the most of that is entirely up to her--even if she has not quite realized that yet.
