Mos as 'Brother Sam' - Dexter Season 6 - 10.02.11 - Showtime premiere.
This is about as close to an Advance Review as I'm going to get before the audience at large--the Showtime audience watches Dexter in real time. I'll post more then as I plan on watching the entire season of Dexter season 6 in real time. Heck, it's on Sunday nights--no need to DVR it!
I've watched the first two episodes of Dexter Season 6--I'm saving episode three for tomorrow due life constraints. Also, I can't emphasize enough how I wish to watch Dexter in real time with everyone else. It's just more fun that way (though I do want to continue watch it in advance. It's awesome with it being my very favourite premium cable show and all!). Dexter is also best appreciated bywatching it multiple times--so you can do things any which way you please. Lots of choices in getting your Season 7 Dexter mojo working!
'Deb' (Jennifer Carpenter) is promoted!
Having just viewed Episode 2 of Dexter last night, I have to say I'm really excited about this season after having some minor nitpicks about a few things from the first episode. They were nothing 'big' and I'll skip back to them after they are no longer spoilers in a near-future post.
After the jump:
For now here's some fresh Dexter content:
The trailer will play until the premiere on October 2nd. Then, the full episode will be available. Dexter 601 Description: The explosively popular DEXTER® is back with a vengeance for a sixth season of startling suspense and unexpected twists. A delusional religious zealot with unflinching convictions, this new adversary soon draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could well end in disaster. In the EW video from a previous Dexter post I wrote ( I've embedded the Jennifer Carpenter red carpet video interview here) Dexter's "Deb", Jennifer Carpenter (who looks more beautiful as each season passes---how does she do that?) when interviewed on the Emmy's red carpet, enthused not only about Dexter this season but was specifically excited about the former Mos Def now shortened to "Mos," and his role as 'Brother Sam' on the show. Brother Sam appears in episode 2 and wow! I now know exactly of which she speaks! So cool! Mos's Brother Sam, an ex-con with an agenda--but for good or ill?-- is a fascinating character already, one which this viewer is hoping to see lots more of!
Lets see--another not Ausiello spoiler (scroll just below for his)...
Dexter solves his housing issues--which impact his special lifestyle, of course--in a brilliant way.
My gift to you.
Also, I would love to give you a copy of this season key art for Dexter.
Leave me a comment then check back around Thanksgiving for the announced winner(s). I'm giving away "Homeland" key art posters too and Claine Danes (who co-stars) looks amazing on them!

Here's this week's Ausiello Dexter questions-with-answers:
Question: Dexter returns in less than a week! ... SPOILERS!!!!
Answer: ... A pivotal character finds out about Dexter’s secret blood sample stash in Episode 2. Also, after watching the first three episodes, I now understand why Jennifer Carpenter was so excited about this season. There’s a lot happening for Deb, both personally (a *r******!) [and romantically] and professionally (a *r***t**n) [a BIG promotion].
And Carpenter is really delivering the goods.
Question: Do you have any scoop on Dexter for the drooling masses?
Ausiello: One of the most buzzworthy moments of the aforementioned Oct. 2 premiere occurs before the episode even begins.
'The opener is preceded by a roughly four-minute recap of the show’s first five seasons':
'Almost every major storyline and character is revisited in the mini-retrospective, with the exception of 'Rita'. While her name is dropped a few times, we never actually see Julie Benz — (this is where I part ways with Ausiello. My short opinion in re: How significant Rita was/is follows) and the omission is glaring. Think about it: How do you adequately summarize all that is and was Dexter without showing things like his marriage to Rita, the birth of his son and, most importantly, the death of Rita at the hands of Trinity! (The clipfest does show Dexter entering the blood-soaked bathroom, but we only see him take Harrison into his arms; Rita’s lifeless body is MIA.)'
I posit that in the world of Dexter ultimately Rita was not all that important other than her joint project with Dexter: the creation of little Harrison.
Rita had baggage--that's why Dexter chose to date Rita in the first place (as he explained in a spot-on voice-over). Through the seasons we met Rita's ex-junkie, wife beating ex-from hell, did a whole marital adjustment/Rita's uptightness about sex thing/seeing a marriage therapist thing--and then one day Ritawas pregnant which restoked Dexter's, 'what about the future fears'...all that was fun to watch but still, the Rita character was in a word, dull. We were never sure that Dex truly loved Rita and we probably never will be. What we saw in the wake of her death was much guilt on his part and some tenderness that almost evaporated by the time he composed himself for her viewing. Not seeing Julie Benz is fine by me. I don't think it did any disservice to the 5-year-old storyline as Rita is past tense. I don't think Dex will ruminate much about her once he's fully into his new Harrison-proofed killing groove. Baby-proof killer groove, as it were.
And finally, a 'Homeland' Q & A:
Question: I’m wondering if there’s anything you can tell us about the new Showtime series Homeland. I just watched the pilot and I think its the best new show I’ve seen in a while.
Answer: ....(Homeland) is by far my favorite new drama of the fall. It mixes the thrilling conspiracy-fueled intrigue of 24 with the methodically paced suspense of The Killing. And the performances are stunning. Claire Danes is sensational as a mentally unstable CIA agent... The real revelation, however, is V‘s Morena Baccarin as the deeply conflicted wife of a suspected terrorist (played by the also fantastic Damian Lewis)...
