Sneak Peeks 1 and 2 of Dexter - 5.10 - 'In The Beginning' are on my blog here .
Found at Spoiler TV
This is an extremely loaded scene that Michael C. Hall as 'Dexter' and Jennifer Carpenter as 'Deb' both pull off with utter precision. The two actors perfectly put the audience both in Deb's place, having stayed at the station all night viewing !!!SPOILER!!! 12 DVD's of the 'Barrel Girls' being tortured for the enjoyment of their captors and in Dexter's position, where he must utter every word to Deb with the utmost care lest he give away the many secrets he harbours about the 'Barrel Girl' killings.'
Dexter arrives at work and comes upon his sister, Deb. She's exhausted, highly disturbed, and furious. Obviously, Dexter needs to extract as much info. as he can about 'what' Deb has found --but can he play the empathetic brother at the same time?
IDK 'cos I still cannot tell the difference between when Dex is 'faking it' versus the Dexter 2.0 that has emerged since both Rita's death and the discovery and subsequent involvement with a should-have-been 'Barrel Girl,' 'Lumen' (Julia Stiles), who he accidentally saved.
The best part though is when Deb shares her theory of the kind of person she believes is responsible for what she believes are !!!SPOILER!!! vigilante killings of the 'Barrel Girls' killers.
The question is asked by Dexter. Then a beat. Then Deb's answer which re-frames who she is for both Dexter and the audience. Well played!
