"There will always be a big body count on this show."
- Alan Ball on True Blood
Televisionary has the BEST Season Finale spoilerific interview with AB!
Some of the yummiest bits:
Televisionary: It’s intimated in the season finale that there’s a hidden force that’s supposedly watching over Sookie? Will we learn more about this and is this connected to that dangling plot thread about what happened to the Rattrays in the pilot?Alan Ball: Absolutely.
Ha! I knew it! It seemed no one made much of a big deal about the fact that when Sookie winged that chain around the Rattray creep that the chain tightened, seemingly on its own allowing Sookie to gain the upper hand, chasing off the Rattray's and saving Bill from being drained by them. At the time even she looked a bit surprised. What sort of threw me off being certain was the next night when the Rattrays ambushed Sookie, beating her severely, nearly killing her. Who was watching over her then? It appeared no one.
Should be very fun to find out more about where Season 3 will take us regarding Sookie and the "force."'
Televisionary: Are there any clues for what viewers can expect for next season?Ball: I can tell you that we will meet the Vampire King of Mississippi and he will have an agenda with the Vampire Queen of Louisiana.
Televisionary: Is Evan Rachel Wood a series regular next season?
Ball: No, she’s not a series regular but she definitely will appear. I know some fans thought that she wasn’t scary enough but (AB explains that in essence, we ain't seen nothing yet) She's crazy! I mean, that character is insane so I don’t think we’ve really seen an insane vampire yet.
Televisionary: It seems almost like a red herring that Eric was behind Bill’s kidnapping last night. Should we be looking at any other potential suspects behind his disappearance?Ball: I think you should always be considering all possibilities. (Laughs)
Televisionary
I'm with Televisionary on the red herring issue about Bill. Be sure to click through and read his full interview with Alan Ball which is the most revealing of any I've read regarding subtle and sometimes overlooked plot hints from both Season 1 and 2, as well as full-on (smaller) spoilers about Season 3.
I'm going to throw this out about Bill's kidnapping. Recall when Eric previously wanted to get Bill out of the way? He called on Bill's maker, Lorena, subtly manipulating her to do his dirty work. Eric is still Eric and the brutish way Bill was dragged off is not Eric's style at all despite the pissing matches, the glaring, the threats. I am not convinced that Eric doesn't sort of like Bill (though I'm fairly sure Bill hates Eric). Eric would have been much more creative about "taking care" of Bill as per Queen Sophie-Anne's demands. Someone else got to Bill first and again, I suggest you go right now and read the full Televisionary interview with Alan Ball wherein he gives you a hint!
Compared to the above interview Ausiello's "scoop" is pretty underwhelming. However I'm beginning to learn that we should pay close attention to casting news and this casting news in particular is about a full-time, pivotal cast member for Season 3.
True Blood has cast Tony winner Denis O’Hare (Take Me Out) as the Vampire King of Mississippi.
Besides acting on stage, O'Hare has appeared in both films (Milk, Duplicity) and television (Brothers & Sisters) and will join True Blood as a series regular. He’ll debut early into the show’s third season, slated to air next summer.
