After last week's shocking ending with Shane being shot as he stood on his doorstep, I thought this episode would carry some gravitas. But it is never a wise thing to "expect" anything in particular from this show as it seems to thrive on doing both the opposite of what you would expect and completely ridiculous things that make you wonder just how much weed whomever is writing is smoking.
Back to Shane. The bullet, which was intended for Nancy, went right through the muscle in his arm and he was taken to Dr. Lemon (sp) (Alanis Morissette) to be patched up. She gave him a bottle of Vicoden for the pain but he refused to take it, waxing poetically to brother Silas about enjoying the pain. Though Both Silas and Shane have acknowledged how messed up both their mother and their lives are, it became apparent to 18 y.o. Silas that Shane was not safe living with his mom and despite Nancy's attempt to bribe Silas with money and a European trip (in theory, to keep him safe), he refused, expressing his intention to move in with Nancy, Esteban, little Stevie and Shane. Though the character has obviously matured this episode really drove home the point that he is in fact more mature and responsible than his mother. Nancy is like a grown-up version of the basket case from The Breakfast Club.
"Just because" apparently, Nancy has now relented and married Esteban, as well as visiting Guillermo in jail to solicit his services in killing the woman who tried to have Nancy killed, destroy Esteban's political career, and most damning, got Shane shot.
From this week's promo it appears that the planned assassination is moving forward and with only 2 episodes remaining in Season 5, expect something really big to happen in the next hour of Weeds.
