Of all the memorials in D.C. this is the one that touches me the most. It just seems the most personal. There are always plentiful signs (mementoes, flowers) that their families still remember, still care. And one is encouraged to touch it--to feel it (and sometimes take a pencil and paper and take am inverse stencil print of a soldier's name from it).
I dunno. It makes me cry each time I've seen it. The only one that comes close is Lincoln.
If only... The most impressive thing to me about this memorial are the quotations throughout. Sadly, the rest of it is not really memorable. It seems to lack cohesion and to be blunt, looks cheap and pedestrian. A shame, really. It could have been so much more.

Thanks, Dan!
