I tried to show here that at least one girl on both the Flag team and the Poms carried a few extra pounds on her frame.
This was exactly as it was about a hundred million years ago when I was in high school. The girls that didn't have the perfect bodies were on either the Flags (or Colour guard) or the Poms. Interesting how times don't change.
If only either team had been any good. (My spouse, a former basketball player & coach of many years was disheartened by the sloppiness on both team's parts.) The half time show was good, though (see above).
For most of the first three quarters of last night's game, Palatine High School's Varsity Basketball team held a 10-point lead over the home team, Fremd High School, also of Palatine. The rivalry between these two teams is extremely intense and as the minutes began ticking down in the fourth quarter Fremd rallied, came up from behind and in the last 2 minutes of the game overcame Palatine's lead, finally winning the game 40-38 (Palatine had a valiant 3-point shot as the buzzer sounded).
Palatine's side of the auditorium, especially the various official and non-official cheerleaders appeared very spirited throughout the game but there was a visible change in their demeanour as the sure-win game suddenly turned in to a possible loss and then disappointingly, a defeat. It sure wasn't for their lack of school spirit.

Thanks Dan! Believe me, most of the real action was during halftime.
