We went to the Great America theme park for my 11 y.o. son's birthday late last summer. I'm not sure of the proper name for the ride pictured, but I call it the swing ride.
The really neat thing about this one--and something one wouldn't expect at such a commercial venue, was the lovely portraits of turn-of-the-century ladies as well as other ornate touches decorating the ride.
The pics were very hard to get as it was night and the ride is illuminated.
I spent some time today using the free trial software trying to tease out the details of the the portraits (and manipulating them for fun) and I'm quite pleased with the results.
The swing ride, the carousel and the ferris wheel are my favorite traditional rides. Scary roller coaters also rank high but I do not, repeat D-O N-O-T like flume rides.

These photos evoke so much feeling. So many childhood memories just washed over me. Wow. The power of photography. Thanks for taking me back.
