Just spent a few hours going through all my previous posts looking for dead links, rexxed piccies, and bad sentence structure.
Found a little of everything.
Those "in the know" say that bloggers should check their entire blogs periodically, so who am I to argue?
I link with enough frequency and get linked to as well (no pretenses--most come from search engines), that I'd hate to think I was pissing people off when they click over here and find a whole lot of nothing.
Anyone reading this is most likely a blogger so I would guess that I'm belaboring the obvious when I say there's a lot of upkeep for those at all invested in their blog.
This thing is an extension of me. I attempt to look presentable when I go out, so my blog should as well.
As I went through my older posts I realized that my blog started off as more of a journal and has morphed into a photo/journal/link entity.
I think this is happening for at least two reasons. First, my involvement in photography and photographic manipulation has grown quite a bit. If I had to pick a reason I'd say that Heather Champ has a lot to do with it. While her photoblog reflects her excellent eye, The Mirror Project (also hers) is a simply brilliant idea that helps photo-taking types remember to bring their cameras with them when going anywhere "just in case" the right opportunity arises.
My blog/journal/website has changed too, because I don't have the desire at this time to chronicle my daily feelings. There's a lot going on besides my little life and mostly it's a whole lot more compelling.
So back to my blog and the time I spend on it. I feel an obligation to keep it fresh. Stuff does comes up in my off-line life, just like in everyone else's and I'll neglect it a wee bit, but truth be told I'm probably as serious about it as I would be if I were getting paid. Maybe more so, as it is a labour of love.
BURIED LEAD
![]()
Not everyone is able or even wants to post frequently and I understand that (I suspect these people lead far more interesting lives than me), but I'd like anyone who I have removed from my links column to know that this is usually done if you stop posting for around a week. Because it's important to me that when readers click they get something fresh, I'll temporarily take down a link if a blogger takes a hiatus from their blog. I've done this a couple of times and then I forgot to put the link back up. It's not personal, I just have a sieve-like brain.
I'm grateful for every "unique" click to this page. I take none of it for granted. Perhaps I should lighten up, but I'm not ready to yet.
Signing off...

Done! :)

Damn! There's even a typo on my comment about typos. Where will it all end?! If only I could reach up there and rub out that extra "the." I miss pencils.

When you get a big book contract you no longer need to know grammer, spelling or correct paragraph construction. They employ editors and sub editors who do all that for you whilst moaning that they could write better than you if only someone would give them a huge advance first.

Oh dear, Jack we are quite the same in regard to that nasty perfectionist bent. It can make one quite batty.
It would be a blessing if I weren't able to go back and correct for fear of losing comments as like you, I'd then have no choice but to move on.
I think though that when you get that big book contract, typos will be the last thing on your mind. :)

I often look back at what I wrote and want to change things. I'm a perfectionist. Typos drive me crazy. Or sometimes the words I really wanted to say will come to me months later. Problem is if I change things with my blog software I lose the comments and I don't want that to happen. I guess I'll just have to make all the edits after I get the big book contract ;-)

It is quite tedious, though a quick and dirty way to do it would be to just scan for rexxed pics/graphics (those big red "X's" tend to stand out :). I still get hits from posts from months ago, for ex: a 360 degree pic/link of the Himalayan Mtns. so this-type stuff, rather than "the dog with the biggest ears in the world," (he's still there, btw) is my top priority when mucking about.
I really only fix sentences if I've been compelled to re-read something, and I cannot stand the horribleness of it.:D

You're supposed to what, now?? Urg. Why don't people tell me these things?? Seriously, I rarely look again at anything I've written once I've written it, unless it was commented on, and then only to understand the comment. I may do that when i'm VERY bored but er...I'd have to be plenty bored. :>
